WTIU earns six NATAS Central Great Lakes Emmys

Bloomington, Ind., June 24, 2024 — The NATAS Central Great Lakes Chapter presented WTIU Public Television with six regional Emmys at its awards ceremony on Saturday, June 22.

 

WTIU’s travel series Journey Indiana received two awards for best arts/entertainment for a piece about storytelling drawing sessions at The Harrison Center and best video essayist for a story about 16mm film.

 

A documentary and concert film created for Indiana jazz musician Wes Montgomery’s centennial in 2023 were honored with three awards. Wes Bound: The Genius of Wes Montgomery won best cultural documentary and best editor for long form content. Wes Montgomery at 100: A 100th Birthday Tribute Concert won an award in the entertainment category. Over There: Hoosier Heroes of the Great War, part of WTIU’s Veterans Day programming last year, won best historical documentary.

 

The Central Great Lakes Emmy Awards recognize excellence in television among its members in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

 

After receiving these regional Emmys, WTIU and its sister station WFIU Public Radio have earned a total of 46 awards this year, including 24 Society of Professional Journalists Awards from the Indiana Professional Chapter, seven Regional Murrows, and nine Tellys.
