WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT TO HONOR FALLEN NAVY SEAL AND BENEFIT WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT

Nels Matson
Nels Matson

Nels Matson, an ultraendurance athlete from Bradenton, Florida, is set to embark on a monumental attempt to break the world record for the fastest run across America. On September 8, 2024, Matson will begin his 3,067-mile journey from San Francisco City Hall to New York City Hall, attempting to finish in under 42 days, requiring a blistering pace averaging over 72 miles daily – and it’s all to honor Chris Campbell, a fallen U.S. Navy SEAL.

Campbell tragically lost his life in 2011 while serving his country. Included in his will, Campbell’s last wish was for 100,000 people to donate to Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) in his name to help his brothers and sisters who do return home. His benchmark was exceeded earlier this year, and Matson is dedicated to honoring Campbell’s legacy.

“The greatest casualty is being forgotten,” Matson said. “This event will help ensure Chris is never forgotten.”

The transcontinental run, called "Project Campbell's Call," honors the legacy of Campbell, and aims to raise awareness and support for WWP.

Project Campbell’s Call is hosted by the Tri 4 Number 1 Foundation, an organization founded by Matson that is dedicated to telling the stories of heroes through sport and raising awareness of causes important to those heroes, and is sponsored by several brands and businesses, including Alliance Solutions and Myakka Communications.

“Our T4N1 team and everyone who’s been a part of Project Campbell’s Call hope to rally communities here and across the nation to honor Chris, support Wounded Warrior Project®, and make a lasting impact on those who have given so much for our country,” Matson explained.

Throughout Matson’s 42-day run, supporters can sponsor T4N1, donate to WWP, and even virtually challenge Matson’s mile count in teams via a RunSignUp World Record Run Challenge.

Wounded Warrior Project

Since 2003, WWP has been transforming the way injured veterans are empowered, employed, and engaged in our communities. Donations from this effort will provide lifesaving programs in mental health, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care ensuring warriors never pay a penny for these services. In addition, working towards this effort in Chris’ memory is an incredible way to honor a young man who gave so much to his country.
