IT’S SIMPLE: CORPORATE GREED AND THE STATE IS ALLOWING IT.

PBM Greed Indiana

Independent pharmacies are closing at an alarming rate across Indiana, and the reason is crystal clear: corporate greed allowed to run rampant by the state.

For years, independent pharmacies have demanded an audit, only to face endless delay tactics from Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). Finally, an audit revealed that these PBMs have raked in over $322 million in profits from the State of Indiana while systematically discriminating against independent pharmacies in reimbursement rates. This exploitation has put incredible financial strain on these pharmacies, leading to widespread closures and job losses for hardworking Hoosiers.

Unlike Indiana, neighboring states like Kentucky and Ohio have acted decisively against these abusive practices by implementing laws to protect their independent pharmacies. Indiana's pharmacy organizations have fought tirelessly for similar protections but have been met with resistance at every turn.

Now, Senate Bill 140 is under discussion in the current legislative session, and it is crucial that it passes. However, this bill faces an uphill battle against the powerful lobby of PBMs who stand to lose part of their ill-gotten $322 million profit. The question is: will Indiana Legislators step up to support small businesses and ensure fair reimbursement rates for independent pharmacies?

Senate Bill 140 also takes aim at the unethical practice of PBMs steering patients to their own pharmacies to boost profits at the expense of competition. The future of independent pharmacies in Indiana is at a critical juncture, and the time for government action is NOW. We must prevent further closures and ensure that Hoosiers have access to necessary pharmacy services.

SB 140 has already passed the Appropriations Committee and is about to be heard on the Senate floor. The potential impact of this bill on healthcare access throughout the state is immense. It’s imperative that you contact your State Senator TODAY and make your voice heard!
