Zenobia Rae Olson
Lifelong Bedford resident Zenobia R. (Finney) Olson passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. She was 86.
Ms. Finney graduated Bedford High School in 1955 where she met her future husband to be, local businessman Volney E. Olson, in the high school band. After high school Mrs. Olson would go on to attend Northwood Institute.
Mrs. Olson participated in numerous charitable organizations at the community level. Bedford Medical Center Auxiliary, The Heart Fund, The Cancer Fund, and the United Fund Drives would be just a few examples. She served on the board of directors of the Bedford Boys Club, where in 1969, she was named “Woman of the Year” for her volunteer efforts.
Over her career she worked as a school aid at Stalker Elementary School in Bedford, Lawrence County Highway Department and Crane Navel Weapons Support Center.
Mrs. Olson participated in Lawrence County politics, and in 1976 ran unsuccessfully for Lawrence County Recorder.
Mrs. Olson was born to Paul L. and Dorothy L. Finney on November 1st, 1937. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Volney E. Olson, Sr on September 25, 2021. She is survived by her two sons, Volney, Jr and Vance Olson (Tonda), both in Indianapolis, along with four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Day & Carter Mortuary, 1133 Lincoln Avenue, Bedford, on October 31st from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Oolitic – Mary Ellen Johnson, 90, of Oolitic, passed away at 8:18 pm on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Westview Nursing & Rehab. in Bedford.
Born October 29, 1933, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of James Albert and Roberta Ione (Foster) Harrison. She graduated from Oolitic High School with the class of 1951. She married George William Johnson on August 4, 1951, and he preceded her in death on July 27, 2011. She retired as a housekeeper for Bedford Medical Center in 1997 and a member of the Oolitic Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Lynn Tillman and husband, Joe, of Florida; two sons, George William Johnson, Jr. and wife, Carol, and Thomas Bret Johnson and wife, Michelle, all of Bedford; a sister, Brenda Kay Stierwalt, of Arizona; a brother, David Daniel Harrison, of Franklin; 7 grandchildren, Lacey (Johnson) Wagner and husband, Andy, Brady Johnson, Brandt Johnson, Hannah (Johnson) Jones and husband, Aaron, Colby (Johnson) Scherschel and husband, Tylor, Cameron Johnson and Sarah (Tillman) Chester and husband, Scott; 9 great-grandchildren, Cori Leigh, Riley Tate, and Campbell Frances Scherschel, Eliza Lillian and Sutton Paige Jones, Liberty Grace and Alyssa Lizzie Chester, Brynlie Julianne and Maybrie Michelle Wagner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Jo Ann Miller.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 30th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jerry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Orville “Buzz” Louis Cook
BEDFORD – Orville “Buzz” Louis Cook, 74, passed away Thursday, October 24th, 2024, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born May 18, 1950 in Munich, Germany, he was the son of Denver Cook and Charlotte Louise (Mellor) Leeson.
Buzz was a 1968 graduate of Rantoul Township High School. Most recently, he continued his education and received his Associates in Ministry degree. Buzz retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in Aviation Maintenance after 23 years of service. Buzz had also worked for Roots RV, managed a Kentucky Fried Chicken, and worked as an aviation mechanic at the Virgil I. Grissom Municipal Airport in Bedford. He was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church and loved participating in church and leading music. Buzz always enjoyed singing in church groups and for the residents of the local nursing homes. He also cherished his work with The Emmaus Walk Retreat, guiding participants and speaking at all levels. He was passionate about aviation, and enjoyed time spent working on airplanes. Buzz loved his family, his extended family, his beloved dogs, Emmy, Sammy, and Bishop, as well as many pets he cared for over his life.
Surviving are his children, Jennifer (Hunter) Moore of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff (Jane Ong) Cook of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Denise (Terry) Godsey of Bedford, and Robert (Amanda) Pruett of Bedford; grandchildren, Brayson Pruett, Jayden Kemp, Riley Pruett, and Brynlee Godsey; companion, Diana Pruett of Bedford; the mother of his children, Vicki (Wayne Hopper) Cook of Orleans; and siblings, Joyce (David) Fox of Seguin, Texas and Darlene (Wayne) Reid of Upland, California.
His parents preceded him in death.
Cremation has been chosen.
Celebration of Life service will be from 10:00-12:00 on Saturday, November 2, at the New Life Missionary Baptist Church, 3657 Tunnelton Road, Bedford, Indiana.

Connie Elaine Williams
MITCHELL – Connie Elaine Williams, 79, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital.
Born May 10, 1945, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of James Edward and Violet Mae (Cooper) Karr. She married James Robert Williams on April 21, 1984, and he preceded her in death on August 16, 2020.
Connie had worked at the Marble Hill Nuclear Power Plant, RCA, and Joan’s Quilts and Crafts. She greatly enjoyed her work as a homemaker raising her family. Connie was a member of the First Christian Church and the Dorcas Group. She enjoyed meeting her high school classmates on most Wednesdays to go out to eat. Connie spent her time doing arts and crafts including making dolls, quilting, and crocheting. Her favorite pastime was caring for her beloved dog, Violet.
Surviving are her children, Troy (Christi) Hackney of Madison, Tricia (Larry) Hackney Bird of Madison, April (Jeff) Asbury of Sullivan, Tammy (Jerry) Hollingsworth of Sullivan, Cathy (Wade) Hysell of Madison; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Reedie) Karr of Mitchell; sister in-law, Shirley Karr of Mooresville; and brother in-law, Rob (Evelyn) Williams of Mitchell.
Her parents; husband; children Timothy Hackney, Rebecca Hackney; granddaughter, Brittany Grubbs; brothers, Danny Karr, and Bob Karr; father-in-law, James Edward Williams, and mother-in-law, Mary Louise Williams preceded her in death.

Harriett Crouch-Merry
August 12, 1950 – October 25, 2024
Harriett Crouch Merry, 74, of Ellettsville and formerly of Bedford, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024 at her home. Hariett was the daughter of Sherman Lee and Anah Gabbert Crouch. She married James Merry Sr. on August 8, 1969, and he preceded her in death.
Harriet is survived by her son, Jimmy Merry Jr.; she was preceded in death by her husband, James Merry Sr. on March 30, 2015; and her daughter, Susan Merry, on February 22, 1980.

Danny Ross Day
Danny Ross Day, 79, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany. Born May 13, 1945, he was the son of the late Buford Day and Mae Day. On July 25, 2008, he married Martha (Newton) Day, who survives.
Danny retired from Otis Elevator in Bloomington, Indiana. Danny enjoyed doing carpentry work and playing the guitar.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife, Martha Day; one daughter, Sherry Day; one granddaughter, Maddie; two great-grandchildren; one brother, David Day (Jody); one sister, Carol Flute; one step-daughter, Teresa McIntosh (Brian); and three step grandchildren.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Mae Day; two sons, Joe Day and Ray Day; and several brothers and sisters.

Oolitic – David O. Riggs, 85, of Oolitic, passed away at 10:35 pm on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at his residence.
Born September 17, 1939, in Kokomo, IN, he was the son of Elmer and Mariene (Denbo) Riggs. He married Margaret Girdley on August 29, 1959, and she survives. He retired from NSWC Crane as a tool and die maker. His hobby was woodworking. He graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1957. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a life-long member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. He was a member of the Oolitic Kiwanis and the Oolitic Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, was a deacon and trustee.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margaret, of Oolitic; a daughter, Kirsten Gore and husband, John, of Bedford; a grandson, Jackson Gore, of Bloomington; a sister, Deidra Marsh and husband, Bob, of Bedford; a brother, John Riggs and wife, Myra, of Solsberry; a sister-in-law, Iris Riggs, of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. E.D. and Mariene Riggs; a brother, Dr. Donald Riggs; a sister, Yvonne Sandefur and husband, Max, and sister-in-law Barbara Terry.

Wilma Faye Phillips

Wilma Faye Phillips, 57, of Williams, passed on to Heaven on October 21, 2024 at IU health Bloomington Hospital. Born October 28,1966, she was the daughter of R.C. and Norma Louise (Neely) Phillips (she was her daddy's rosebud). Faye adored her companion, Charles (Pickle) Byrd, of 20 years, and he survives.
Faye was the foundation of her family. She kept the roots held tight, and she stayed in contact with each one always. She forgave and easily forgot anyone's wrong. She loved the Lord and showed that in her kind and thoughtful ways daily. Faye was the best babysitter, dog sitter, and she cared for elderly as well. She loved helping her neighbors, family, friends and strangers.
Surviving is her soul mate, Charles Wesley Byrd of Williams; children, Dustin and Tela Weldon; her brother, Donnie Phillips of Bedford; and sister, Lou Phillips of Bedford. She has 7 grand blessings, Braylon, Madyx, Elijah, Nevaeh, Jordan, Madilyn and Rylee; Faye had three nieces, two nephews, and plenty of greats. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley (Anthony) Flynn of Washington; and brother, Roger Phillips of Bedford.

Sabrina "Brenda" Kaye Lawyer
Sabrina "Brenda" Kaye Lawyer, 62 of West Baden passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2024, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Otis Mason and Virginia "Pauline" (McElroy) Mason.
Brenda was a cook at Nila's in West Baden. Brenda loved flowers, listening to Rock and Roll music and was an avid sword and knife collector.
Surviving to cherish her memory are three daughters, Jennifer Walbeck, Nikki Irwin and
Casey Irwin (Dane); 13 grandchildren; one brother, Adam Mason; two sisters, Marsha
Napier and Doris Yonts, and Several Cousins.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Pauline Mason; four brothers, Billy
Ray Mason, Pete Mason, Otis Mason Jr. and Woody Mason, and one sister, Llewellen Slone.
Cremation was chosen. A celebration of life will be held November 3, 2024, at American
Legion Post #76 in French Lick at 3:00pm.

Regina Christina “Chris” Runge-Osterman, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on August 8, 1942, to the late Heinz Bischoff and Theresa Bischoff. She met her late husband Dave Osterman while in Germany and they were married February 1, 1969, in Seymour.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Chris enjoyed BINGO, scratching lottery tickets and gardening. Most of all she loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving to cherish Chris’ memory is her son, Michael (Michelle) Rhoades; her grandsons, David (Kate), Jonathan (Sarah), and Zachary (Whitley); great-grandchildren, Roselyn, Margaret, Evelyn, Joshua Coe, Linus, Lydia, Everett, and Zreya; and her sister, Margaret (Gustav) Hamburg.
Chris was preceded by her first husband, George Rhoades; her second husband, David Osterman; and her parents, Heinz and Theresa Bischoff.

Bedford – Carolyn S. Johnson, 85, of Bedford, passed away at 5:30 am on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at I.U. Health Hospice House.
Born August 31, 1939, in Oolitic, she was the daughter of James W. and Bessie (Payton) Hatfield. She married Perry W. Johnson on May 5, 1955, and he preceded her in death on December 25, 2004. She was a homemaker and volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Survivors include two sons, Dale E. Johnson and wife, Diane, of CO and Perry (Joe) Johnson and wife, Judy, of Leesville; a daughter-in-law, Diane Johnson, of Mitchell; grandsons, Alexander Johnson, of Williams and Daniel Johnson, of Mitchell; granddaughters, Erin M., Victoria K., both of CO and Holly L. Johnson, of ID; a sister, Lahoma Owen, of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Daniel W. Patricia Ann Lindsey
MITCHELL – Patricia Ann Lindsey, 84, passed away surrounded by family Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born June 9, 1940, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Willis Glenn and Isabelle (Brannaman) Sanders. She married Charles Edwin Lindsey on December 10, 1956 and he survives. They were married for 67 years.
Patricia was a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church and was very active in her church. She worked most of her adult life until retiring from Dana Incorporated. Upon retirement, Patricia dedicated her life to caring for her grandchildren, helping others in need, visiting yard sales, and spending countless hours working in her flower garden.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Edwin Lindsey of Mitchell; children, Suzi (Don) Wyttenback of Mitchell, Greg Lindsey of Mitchell, and A.J. (Megan) Lindsey of Seymour; grandchildren, Jennifer Davies, Larry Hensley, Dustin Hensley, Leslea Lindsey, Evan Lindsey, Nick Lindsey, Cyrus Lindsey, and Emerson Lindsey; great-grandchildren, Matthew Hensley, Madison Hensley, Charleston Davies, Christian Davies, Emery Lindsey, Novalee Lindsey, Lennox Stephens, London Stephens, and Wiley Nelson; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
Her parents preceded her in death.

John Russell Hodges
John Russell Hodges of Bedford, Indiana died on October 23, 2024. He was born November 7, 1928, to Ollie R. and Frances M. (Foster) Hodges. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Ann (Gilstrap) Hodges. Also surviving are children William (Bill and Amy) of Lafayette, Karen (Kevin) Ohrenberger of Hillsborough, North Carolina, and Pamela (Brent) Crum of Avon. He also leaves eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law Myra Lou Gilstrap and brother Tom Hodges of Santa Rosa, California also survive.
John was one of seven siblings and was predeceased by Mildred Long Kimbley, Harold, Mary Gilstrap, Gerald Eugene (Gene), and Harry.
John was a graduate of the Shawswick High School class of 1947, and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1951. He and Barbara were married for 72 years and John was drafted into the Army two months after their December 21, 1951 wedding. He was proud of his Dairy Husbandry degree from Purdue, and because of his chemistry background, the Army placed him in chemical warfare training. He became a Sergeant of a munitions supply just south of the 38th parallel, now the demilitarized zone, in Korea. He was awarded a Bronze Ribbon and three Bronze Service Medals, the UN Service Medal, and a National Defense Medal. After serving overseas for 16 months, he returned to the states.
Most who knew him, will remember John from his work as Superintendent of the Feldun Purdue Ag Center just west of Bedford, and for his many civic responsibilities. He worked for Purdue University most of his career, first at the Davis Farm in Farmland before moving to the Feldun Purdue Farm and finishing his long career there. Before technology began automatically recording the weather, John was tasked with calling the National Weather Service early each morning to report weather conditions in the Bedford area. One of the many accomplishments that he was proud of was the building of the bull test station that served farmers in several states. Community organizations that he served include the Cattlemen’s Association, Rotary, and the 4-H Board of Directors.
John enjoyed fishing in his retirement, especially if he could take grandkids. He also loved watching Purdue basketball and football. As a grandfather, he was famous for giving ‘bone-cracker’ hugs. John was a long-time member of the Central Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for many years. He will be remembered for his willingness to serve wherever needed and for his wonderful laugh and love of telling stories from his childhood. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Bedford – Anthony W. “Tony” Root, 74, of Bedford, passed away at 11:32 pm on Monday, October 21, 2024, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born December 31, 1949, the son of Kenneth and June (Blunk) Root. He was a welder in Indianapolis.
Survivors include two sisters, Dawn Kluesner and Bobbette Root (Butch); a nephew, Dustin Kluesner; a great-nephew, Shawn Kluesner; a daughter, Cinnamon Kelley and her daughter, Bailee Kelley. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Root; his paternal grandparents, Robert F. and Minnie Root; his maternal grandparents, Herschel and Elsie Blunk; step-grandmother, Mayme Carter.

Nancy Kay Covey
Nancy Kay Covey 82 of Bedford passed away on Sunday October 20, 2024, at 11:25 PM at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Nancy was born in Shoals to Alvin and Margaret (Gammon) Brewster on December 21, 1941. She was a graduate of Mitchell High School, she retired from NWSC Crane. Nancy married Fred H. Covey on December 18, 1964, and he preceded her in death in 2020.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Eric) Rasico, one brother, Rex Brewster, grandchildren, Audrianna (Dan) King, Alexander King, Ashton Knepp, Austin Rasico, Ayden Rasico, great grandson, Elliot Carson King.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Fred Covey.

Born February 19, 1934, in Monroe Co., he was the son of Luther Chambers and Edith (Robinson) Mundy. He had been a painter at Otis Elevator.
Survivors include his significant other, Mary Isom, of Bloomington; his son, Earl Isom and wife, Debbie, of Bedford and their children, Evan, Nicholas and Elizabeth; two step-daughters, Teresa Sissman (Jimmy) and Cheryl Zackey, all of Bloomington; seven step- grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Timothy Chambers; two step-daughters, Connie Isom and Brenda Morron; four brothers, Lawrence, Robert, James, and Virgil; one sister (in infancy).

Bedford – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Danny Charles Stewart on October 19, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Danny took his final breath in his childhood home, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 72. Danny was born on April 25, 1952, to Charles and Mary (Miller) Stewart. He was of the Christian faith.
Danny was a graduate of Oolitic High School, class of 1970. He devoted 27 years of work at Visteon in Bedford in the stainless department. Danny leaves behind the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Nancy (Holtsclaw) Stewart, his beloved wife of 53 years. They were married on March 13, 1971, and had three sons, Danny Joe, Jeffery Scott and Robert Lee. Danny was a dedicated man who cherished spending time with his family. If you knew Danny, then you knew he was one of the biggest fishing enthusiasts ever made. His extensive collection of fishing poles, lures and bait littering his garage is proof of that. One of his favorite places to be was on the water with his sons and grandchildren. Instilling the love of outdoors into all of them. Danny also enjoyed being out in the woods during deer season. Even though the past few years proved to be challenging for him to get that fall morning air rush, he was always delighted to share his many hunting stories with anyone who would listen. Danny will be severely missed by all who knew him.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; two sons, Danny Joe Stewart, of Milton, KY and Bobby (Deanna) Stewart, of Bedford; bonus son, Roger Mudd, of Ft. Wayne; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his loyal dog, Rocky; 2 sisters, Diana (Stewart) Flynn, of Springville and Donna (Stewart) Chinn, of Garettsville, OH; Several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary (Miller) Stewart and a son, Jeffery Scott Stewart.

Bedford – Charles “Charlie” East, 77, of Bedford, passed away at 8:10 am on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Evergreen Assisted Living in Bloomington.
Born July 27, 1947, in Perry Co., IN, he was the son of Albert and Hazel (Birkla) East. He married Sherry Sue Phillips and she preceded him in death on September 23, 2014. He retired as the general manager and salesman at Bedford Ford.
Survivors include a son, Charles P. East of Bloomington; two daughters, Rhonda Kirk and husband, Gary, of Mitchell and Susan Roberts, of Bloomington; seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Tammy Jo East (in infancy); a brother, Clarence East; a half-brother, Nolan Birkla; a sister, Anna Belle Pirvis.

Bedford – Kenneth E. Day, 90, of Bedford, passed away at 11:20 am on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born June 13, 1934, in Bedford, he was the son of Lloyd and Mary Alice (Ehringer) Day. He married Margaret George on September 19, 1953, and she preceded him in death on September 15, 2023. He was a tool and die maker at General Motors and attended Faith Baptist Church in Springville.
Survivors include son, Kenny Day and significant other, Rachael Osburn, of Hollywood, FL; children, Vanessa Moule and son, Rylan, and Patricia Osburn; son, Kevin Day and wife, Jenny, of Bedford, and their son, Derek Day and wife, Lacey, of Richmond, KY and children, Landyn and Cameron Day; a brother, Larry Day and wife, Nancy, of Roaring Springs, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Jack and a sister, Sue Ball.

Bedford – Gloria D. Poole, 85, of Bedford, passed away at 10:47 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born February 8, 1939, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Jessie D. and Zena Mae (Rogers) Ray. She married Allen Poole on December 10, 1955, and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1993. She retired from Thomson Consumer Electronics in 1999 and was a member of the East Oolitic Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Robert “Rob” A. (Chris) Poole, of Springville, Bruce D. (Sheila) Poole and Leslie E. Poole, both of Bedford; six grandchildren, Jenny (Lou) Stephenson, Angie (Danny) Phillips, Amy (Daniel) Walls, Mandy (Jay R.) Robinson, Jared (Jodi) Poole, and Jessica Norris; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Teresa L. Norris; two grandsons, Joshua and Jason Poole; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Phillips; three brothers, William E. “Bill” Ray and Harold F. “Poss” Ray, and Roger D. “Teako” Ray; three sisters, Helen Hupp, Juanita Reuter, and Loretta Eads.

Bedford – Karl Teter, 85, of Bedford, passed away at 11:44 pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born July 7, 1939, in Tipton, IN, he was the son of Guy O. and Ruth V. (Rayl) Teter. He married Velma Joyce Johnson and she survives. He had been a manager for the 3-D Department Store and owner of The Pet Corner in Bedford. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church and had volunteered at Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid Colts fan and loved his dog, Bandit.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; two sons, Bruce Teter (Christy), and Kelly Teter; a daughter, Gwen Giliam (Jeff); step-children, Paul Dorsett (Nancy), Nancy Stancombe (Stephen), Cheryl Hammond (Greg), and Adrian Dorsett; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Teter.

Charles “Chuck” Edward Simmons
WILLIAMS – Charles “Chuck” Edward Simmons, 64, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, at Indiana University Health Hospice House.
Born September 21, 1960, in Corydon, he was the son of Richard “Dick” and Patricia (Jackson) Simmons. He married Dawn R. Henderson on February 5, 2021 and she survives.
Chuck was a 1979 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. He was the owner of Power Clean. Chuck was a good musician and enjoyed playing guitar and singing.
Surviving are his wife, Dawn R. Simmons of Williams; children, Brandon Simmons, Michael Simmons, Alana Chastain, and Eli Muscatello; 2 grandchildren; mother, Patricia Simmons; and his beloved dog, Baby.
His father preceded him in death.

Howard Allen Burris
MITCHELL – Howard Allen Burris, 92, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, at his residence.
Born September 25, 1932, in Mitchell, he was the son of Lester Allen and Gladys Estelle (Sherwood) Burris. He married Geraldine “Gerry” Faye Fisher on June 20, 1954 and she survives. They were married for 70 years.
Howard was a 1950 graduate of Mitchell High School and received his master’s degree in education. He was a teacher for 40 years, retiring from Mitchell Community Schools. Howard was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a life-long farmer and had been the Lawrence County Farmer of the Year. Howard loved gardening and farming. He was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ and also preached at many small churches around the area. Howard loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them on the farm.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine “Gerry” Burris of Mitchell; children, Paula (Tom) Sowders of Mitchell, Allen (Kedra) Burris of Mitchell, and Lou Ann (Mark) Rader of Mitchell; grandchildren, Matthew (Jean) Sowders, Jeremy (Moriah) Sowders, Sarah (Derek) Rollins, Kyle (Charlsie) Rader, Lester (Maddie) Burris, Luke (Lydia) Burris, Rebecca (Micah) Fleming, and Ben (Victoria) Burris; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ralph Burris of Hamilton, Ohio and Norma Roberts of Jeffersonville.
His parents and infant brother, Paul Burris, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, at the Mitchell Church of Christ with Brother Ralph Burris officiating. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

Bedford – Melanie Manion Reynolds, 63, of Bedford, passed away at 9:45 am on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Indiana University Hospice House.
Born October 6, 1961, she was the daughter of Harold and Marie (Hale) Manion. She married Lincoln Reynolds on December 29, 1994 and he survives. Melanie was a Documentation Specialist at Baxter for 22 years and a member of the Gulletts Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Lincoln, of Bedford; two furry friends, Blue and Bella; a sister, Rita Franklin (Benny), of Springville; and a brother, Mike Manion, of Bedford; a sister in law Teresa Manion. She is preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Weisheit and her husband Kent, and brother Harold Wayne Manion.

Shoals – Melvin Oliver, 70, of Shoals, passed away at 6:17 pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at his residence.
Born August 15, 1954, in Bedford, he was the son of James A. and Mary Catherine (Cobb) Oliver. He married Edna Flo Wright-Cobb and she survives. Melvin was retired from NSWC Crane as a Ammunitions Truck Driver and was a member of Trinity Springs Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of the 32nd Degree, Elk’s Lodge, Moose Lodge, Shoals Legion, and the Oolitic VFW.
Survivors include his wife Flo, of Shoals; father James A. Oliver (Barbara); Children, Michelle Boettcher (Cory). Chris Oliver (Maggie), Brian Oliver (Stephanie), Kellie Welby and significant other James Norman, Tony Weldon, Jeff Weldon (Sandy) Richard Cobb, Tammy Haley (Dan) Tonya Bridwell (Van), Tracey Hampton (Tim); sisters, Teresa Whitt (Jim), and Tina Bradley (Ron); brother, Andy Oliver. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Oliver, and brothers, Stacey Oliver and Russell Oliver.

MITCHELL – Charles Robert “Bob” Van Hoy, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at his residence.
Born December 27, 1937, in Martin County, he was the son of Hugh and Addie (Walton) Van Hoy. He married Judith Ann Kelley on June 24, 1966, and she preceded him in death April 15, 2013.
Bob was part-owner and operator of Van Hoy Heating & Cooling for many years. He was a 1956 graduate of Monroe City High School and a U. S. Army Veteran. Bob was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He enjoyed horseback riding and traveling out West and having breakfast with his friends. Bob was an avid fisherman who competed in many Bass tournaments over the years. He loved spending the day at the lake with his close friends and his grandson. His family was everything to him.
Survivors include his son, Charles Stacy (Brandy) Van Hoy of Bedford; grandchildren, Savanna Lee and Charles Seaver Van Hoy; and sister, Alice Isom of Mitchell.
His parents; wife; sons, Scott David Van Hoy and Infant Ricky Van Hoy; and siblings, Mike Van Hoy, Marilyn Ray, and Richard “Rick” Van Hoy, preceded him in death.

Jackie Lynn (Goerge) Kuster, 68, of Bedford passed away at 4:51pm, on Sunday, October 06, 2024, at IU Methodist Hospital. She was the daughter of Jack George and Marion George Plake. She married Michael Kuster and he preceded her in death.
Jackie was a caregiver as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the New Union Christian Church for 30 years.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Jackie, is her son, Jason Michael Kuster, and Brian Mathew Kuster; brother, Dale George; sister, Cindy Bodenhamer; grandchildren, Nathan Kuster, Abigail Kuster, and Peyton Kuster; and great grandchildren, Olivia Kuster, Hudson Toliver, and Pheonix Toliver.
Preceding her in death is her spouse Michael Kuster; parents, Jack and Marion George.

Carson Hackney
Carson Hackney, Jr. 86 of Bedford passed away on Monday October 7, 2024, at 9:01 AM at his residence. He was born in Jonesville, Virginia on February 17, 1938, to Carson Hackney and Belle (Hopkins) Hackney. Carson married Lela Eggers on June 6, 1959, and she survives. Carson worked as a finish room foreman at Webcor, he also worked at Travelers in Orleans, M & E Honda in Bedford, and W.F. Myers in Bedford, he was also a farmer, and business entrepreneur in many different things. He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford, he enjoyed the outdoors, camping, mowing, and sight-seeing.
Survivors include his wife, Lela Hackney of Bedford, two daughters, Dianna Fisher of Orleans, and Jill Rose and her companion Joe Vaught of Bedford, one son, Jeff (Lisa) Hackney of Paoli, one brother, Harold (Judy) Hackney of Bedford, seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
Carson was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, one grandson, Jason Rose, and his son-in-law: Gary Fisher.

Anna Louise “Sissi” Craig
ORLEANS – Anna Louise “Sissi” Craig, 73, passed away Monday, October 7, 2024, at Paoli Health and Living Community, after a long fought battle with cancer.
Born May 4, 1951, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harold Lee and Julia F. (Melvin) Dorsett. She married Mark Alan “Sparky” Craig on December 22, 1999 and he preceded her in death February 7, 2020.
Anna was a bartender at Jack’s Lounge, Zeeks, and multiple other lounges. She was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Auxiliary to the VFW Post No. 9107. Anna enjoyed gardening and flowers, cooking, and crafting. She loved to socialize and party with her friends, and she always made everyone smile.
Surviving are her children, Julie Tow of Bedford and Kari Terrell of Orleans; step-son, Alan Craig of Bloomington; grandchildren, Jae (Jerek) Tolbert Johnson, Kristopher (Erendira) Kinder, and Michael (Rose Gonzales) Morin; great-grandchild, Eluzai, Arya, and Isabella; siblings, Aggie Ramey of Bloomington and Billy Baker of Anderson; and her beloved rescue dog, Honey Bear.
Her parents; husband; son, Daniel Melton; and multiple pets, preceded her in death.

Rene H. Brock, 63, of Silverville, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at her residence. She was born November 1, 1960, to Willie Dale and Esther (Gaither) Brock.
Rene was a 1979 BNL graduate and had worked for Lawrence County Waste Management, Carpenters and Fines Manufacturing. She was of the Christian faith. She loved taking her grandchildren and family fishing, crocheting and making jewelry. She was an animal rescuer and an avid music lover.
Surviving to cherish Rene’s memory is her mother, Esther; two brothers, William (Stella) Brock and Jack (Jennifer) Brock; one son, John (Jennifer) Norris; four grandchildren, Americus Wonder, Colton Norris, Ashlynn Norris and Dalton Beatty; along with several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Rene was preceded in death by her father, Willie; and brother, David Anthony Brock.
Funeral services for Rene will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11:00am, at the Fayetteville Baptist Church in Fayetteville, with Pastor Kenny Walden officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Anah Annette Williams-Hall, 89 of Bedford passed away on Sunday October 6th, 2024 at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. She was born in Lawrence County on May 23, 1935 to Forrest and Zona Craig. She was of the Christian faith. She married Rev. Dean Williams in 1954 and was a minister's wife for 30 years. He proceeded her in death in 1990.
She later married Leonard Hall, and he also proceeded her in death in 2012. Her parents and eight siblings also preceded her in death: Victor Craig (in infancy), Audra "Shorty" Craig, Edwin "Cap" Craig, Donald Craig, Vince "Cotton" Craig, Lowell Craig, Wanda Craig and Norma Terry.
She is survived by three children: Robert Dennis Williams, Leasa (Gary) Hall, and Cheryl (Dallas) Bolton. Anah was the proud "Mamo" of six grandchildren: Kyle (Adna) Hall, Heather dela Cruz, Ashley (Keith) Hayes, Audra Bolton, Kent (Kaci) Hall and Deanah (Tanner) Conolty. She had fifteen great-grandchildren. Anah is also survived by her sisters, Doris "Pug" Conner and Viola "Lou" Waggoner.
The family will hold a private visitation. Graveside services for family and friends will be held Wednesday October 9, 2024, at 11:30 at Silverville Missionary Baptist Church. Grandson Kyle Hall will be officiating.

MITCHELL – Judy Ann Ellis, 78, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born October 6, 1946, in Anderson, she was the daughter of Herman M. and Edith Juanita (Edwards) Miller. Judy married Don C. Ellis on January 28, 1977 and he survives.
Judy worked at the Mitchell License Branch. She was a collector of antiques and was the co-owner of Orleans Antiques. Judy was also a passionate artist. She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 250 Auxiliary. Judy was a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. Mamaw Tritrot was an amazing grandmother and great-grandmother.

Dr. James Lee Mount

Bedford – Dr. James Lee Mount, 87, of Bedford, passed away at 11:54 pm, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born October 17, 1936, in Linton, IN, he was the son of Dr. Mathias and Eleanor (Coppock) Mount. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1962 to 1968 and was a Lt. Commander at the time of his discharge. He married Rowena Alexander on July 14, 1968. He was a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine class of 1961. He did his residency at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and Harlem Hospital in New York City. He was a physician for 38 years specializing in obstetrics and gynecology at I.U. Health, formerly Bedford Regional Medical Center, retiring in 2006. He was a former President of the Bedford Hiking Club and Limestone Girls Club, and a member of Bedford First United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member of the choir. He served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader and on several boards including the Lawrence County Health Board, the Community Foundation, and Lawrence County Museum, where he was a longtime volunteer. He was a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Rowena, of Bedford; a daughter, Carrie Mount Roelle and husband Steve, of Newburgh, Indiana; a son, Carter Mount and wife, Jennifer, of Scottsdale, Arizona; five grandchildren, Hannah, Wyatt and Parker Mount, and Max and Sutton Roelle. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Mount, and sister Luanna Goetz.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Saturday, October 5th in the Green Hill Cemetery with Pastors Judi Early and Michael Collins officiating where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday at Bedford First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence County Museum or the BNL Scholarship Foundation. Frankie Ross Sallee
BEDFORD – Frankie Ross Sallee, 83, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at his residence.
Born August 6, 1941, in Bedford, he was the son of Frank and Barbara “Bobbi” (Faris) Sallee. He married Sandra “Sandy” Lee Pierce on April 29, 2007 and she survives.
Frankie graduated from Tunnelton High School. He worked as a high voltage lineman for Public Service Indiana and Montana Power. He greatly enjoyed golfing and owned his own business manufacturing golf clubs.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra “Sandy” Lee Sallee of Bedford; children, Damon (Keri) Sallee of Washington State, Desiree Saunders, and Dionne Peterson; step-children, Cory (Stacy) Plocher of Bedford, Chad (Amy) Plocher of Highland, Illinois, and Jamie (Joe) Norman of Bedford; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Cremation has been chosen. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 12, at their residence.

Stephen Hennessee
January 20, 1956 – October 1, 2024
Stephen “Steve” Hennessee, 68, of Bedford passed away at 4pm Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at IU Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis. Born January 20, 1956, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Philip Hennessee and Donna (Lee) Hennessee.
Steve grew up and lived in Indianapolis for 56 years before moving to Lawrence County. He worked the construction trades for 40 years and was an avid fisherman. He loved primitive camping and was very artistic. Steve had many hobbies, including painting with acrylics and watercolor as well as wood carving. He was highly intelligent and quick witted. Steve’s love for Jesus Christ was a sustaining force in his life.
He is survived by his mother, Donna; a sister, Linda (Jerry) Norris of Bedford; and nephews, Alex (Sierra) Norris, and Chris Norris, both of Bedford; and four cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A Graveside service will be conducted at Proctor cemetery at a later date, officiated by Pastor Marlon Beachy.
Cremation arrangements for Stephen have been entrusted to Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, in Bedford.

Kevin Robbins
July 10, 1968 - October 1, 2024
Kevin Lee Robbins, 56, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Born July 10, 1968, in Bedford, he was the son of Irvan Robbins and Reva (Baker) Mundy.
Kevin worked as a laborer at local union 741. Kevin was a woodworker and a caregiver to his mother and stepfather. He loved his grandsons, and they referred to him as papaw fireball.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Kevin is his daughter, Ashley Nachol Robbins; two stepdaughters, Hevan Young and Shawnee Brooks; mother, Reva (Hayden) Mundy; four brothers, Irvan (Betty) Robbins Jr., Allen Robbins, Martin Robbins, and Faron (Shelly) Robbins; four sisters, Tresa (Leonard) Coots, Janie Robbins, Michelle (David) Gibson, and Tammy Robbins; two grandsons, Wyatt and Waylon Sowders; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Irvan Robbins; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation for Kevin will be held from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Cremation will follow.

Oolitic – Michael W. Trowbridge, 53, of Oolitic, passed away at 3:00 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at his residence.
Born February 14, 1971, in Bedford, he was the son of Kenneth Michael and Stella (Blackburn) Trowbridge. He was a laborer at NWSC Crane.
Survivors include his mother, Stella, of Oolitic; a sister, Michelle Trowbridge, of Oolitic; a loving niece, Kristina Trowbridge, of Oolitic; aunts, Betty Blackburn, of Bedford, and Marilyn Peters; cousins, John H. Sanders (Brooke), and Ronnie Hobson (Jenny) both of Needmore, Kenny Clampitt, Rita Crane (Rudy), and Veronica Flynn (Dan). He was preceded in death by his father and his granny, Alice Blackburn.

William “Matthias” Boggs
William “Matthias” Boggs, 27 of Bedford passed away on Monday September 30, 2024. He was born in Bedford on February 2, 1997, to Shannon Boggs and Beth Smith. Matthias was a graduate of BNL High School, member of the Laborers Union and worked for Rivertown Construction, he was the oldest grandchild, he was an avid history buff along side grandpa Steve, Matt attended community college after graduation until he joined the Laborers Union, he was a proud homeowner, he was a good human of high character, he was the best brother, friend, an amazing Dad, and he loved his daughter, he’s truly an irreplaceable person.
Survivors include his parents, Shannon & Michelle Boggs, his mother, Beth Smith, grandfather, Steve Boggs, his daughter, Zoey Boggs and her mother, Morgan Harrison, two brothers, Kaison Ames, and Kody Allen, two sisters, Gabrielle Boggs, and Kaiya Johnson and Jesse Woody, Aunts and Uncles, Jeff (Jennifer) Boggs, Tonya (Jason) Amstutz, Bill (Shala) Cormican, Amanda Cormican, Miranda (Alex) Alexander, Mariah Cormican, Bud (Crystal) Kean, Casey (Jessica) Byrd, and Susan (Casey) Mitchell, his beloved dog, Cooper.
Matthias was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sylvia Boggs, Tammy Byrd-Folk, Frances Cormican, and William and Thelma Wagoner.
