Noble G. Martin
Noble G. Martin, 89 of Bedford passed away on October 29, 2023, at 6:12 p.m. at his residence. He was born in Wayne County, Kentucky on June 9, 1934, to Henry Ellis Martin and Lettie (Tucker) Martin. Noble married Mae Clark Martin on July 16, 1954, and she preceded him in death on November 16, 2021. Noble retired from B.G. Hoadley Quarries, he owned his own sawmill business, later in life he mowed yards part-time, because he loved to stay busy. Noble was a founding member of the Grace Baptist Church in Springville; he loved going to church and he loved to sing and play his guitar. He enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Spending time with all his grandkids and all those great grandkids and great great grandkids was his best times, he would just light up. He had a special love for all his friends and a kindness that only God could bless you with.
Survivors include his children, Linda Martin, Rex (Louann) Martin, Annette (Bruce) Sturgeon, son-in-law, Bob Cox, Grandkids, Rachel, Bill, Pam, Heath, Shannon, Ronnie, Michael, Heather, Brian, Lucas, Cassandra, Dustin, Harlie, Jessica, Mike, Patricia, Robert, Adam and Leah. 32 Great Grandkids, and 11 Great Great Grandkids.
Noble was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mae Martin, two daughters, Millie (Mildred) Cox and Charlene Martin, grandson, Bobby Martin, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be on Friday November 3, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with Bob Phillips and Rusty Burnette officiating, burial will follow in Springville West Cemetery. July 1, 1948 – October 25, 2023
Lawrence County – Carl W Whitted,75, a lifelong resident of Lawrence County, passed away on Wednesday, October 25 at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born on July 1, 1948 at Dunn Hospital in Bedford, IN, Carl was the son of Clyde C and Ruth G (Hunter) Whitted, both of whom preceded him.
Carl is survived by one brother, Bill and wife Cathie who reside in Indianapolis; 5 nieces: Jennifer Hammond, Jessica Pittman, Koren Racolta, Christina Whitted and Natalie O’Riordan; and numerous cousins, neighbors and friends.
Following graduation from Purdue University, Carl served in the Air Force during the Vietnam era and then returned to employment as an engineer at Naval Weapons Center Crane until his retirement in 1998. Carl enjoyed working in the outdoors on his farm property after retirement.
In lieu of flowers, Carl requested that friends donate to L.I.F.E. (Lawrence Inter Faith Endeavor) food pantry. Carl could not abide seeing hungry people in the midst of abundance!
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 4th at Day and Carter Mortuary with Pastor Judi Early officiating. Burial will follow in Mundell Church cemetery. Karen S. (Clifton) Phipps
Karen S. (Clifton) Phipps, 76 of Bedford passed away on Friday October 27, 2023, at 5:35 p.m. at Salem Crossing in Salem. She was born in Bedford on September 3, 1947, to Wesley Clifton and Lorene (Hillenberg) Clifton. Karen married Ronald “Ronnie” Phipps on July 28, 1968, in Bedford and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2014. Karen was a graduate of Bedford High School Class of 1965, she worked at RCA in Bloomington and retired from GM Powertrain in Bedford and was a member of the U.A.W. #440 and Mitchell American Legion Post #250 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Treavor (Angie) Phipps of Salem, two grandsons, Devon Hopper of Salem, and Zane Phipps of Salem, one great grandson, Carter Hopper of Salem, two sisters, Arlene Potts of Bedford, and Mary Lou (Jerry) Melton of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Bob Clifton, and John Clifton.

Vaughn Leroy Young

Vaughn Leroy Young, 91, of Heltonville, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at his residence. Born in Huron on May 16, 1932, he was the son of Charles Kenneth “Kenny” and Lucille (Morris) Young. He married Roberta Hicks and she preceded him in death. He then married Rheadawn Hillenburg who survives, and they have been married for 51 years.
Leroy was a member of Dive Christian Church in Bedford and retired from G.M. Powertrain as a Forklift Driver. He was an area musician and had the local band “Leroy and the Lonesome Travelers”.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Leroy is his wife, Rheadawn; three daughters, Karen (Jeff) Charles of Bedford, Kathy (Gary) Grow of Fayetteville, and Kimberly Flinn of Texas; son, Tim Young of Bedford; step-children, Michael Hillenburg of Heltonville and Kimmy (Eddie) Parr of Seymour; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Kenny” Young and Lucille Stalets; his first wife, Roberta; and his brother, Ronnie Young.

Bedford – Jerry E. Tolliver, 72, of Bedford, passed away at 12:04 pm on Friday, October 27, 2023, at his residence.
Born April 1, 1951, in Bedford, he was the son of Chester G. and Ruth V. (Troxel) Tolliver. He married Ruth Ann Hall and she survives. He had worked at RCA and retired from Lowe’s. He loved New York Yankees and watching trains.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann, of Bedford; two daughters, Pamela Abel and April Diane Tolliver and life-time partner, Joshua Nicley; two grandchildren, Nathan Way and Thomas Abel and wife, Kiara; a great-grandchild, John William Way; several cousins and aunts; his beloved dog, Casey Brian Tolliver. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Chuck and Darrell Tolliver; a sister, Keren Kean.

Dale Allen Hopewell

Bedford – Dale Allen Hopewell, 80, of Bedford, passed away at 5:55 pm on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born November 1, 1942, in Sullivan, IN, he was the son of Curtis and Ruby (Knowles) Hopewell. He married Betty Weaver on November 17, 1962, and she survives. He was a graduate of Honey Creek High School with the class of 1960 and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He was the owner/operator of Burger Chef Restaurant from 1969 to 1984 when the name changed to Pleasers Restaurant. He continued ownership until 2003. He enjoyed golfing and wintering in Florida.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Betty, of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Geraldine “Jeri” Newman; two nieces; three great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nina Sue Hopewell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 29th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Springville – Shirley Blackwell, 81, of Springville, passed away at 3:25 am on Friday, October 27, 2023, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born January 31, 1942, in Greene Co., she was the daughter of Luther and Verna Porter Craig Booker. She married Richard Blackwell on October 16, 1992, and he survives. She was an inspector and machine operator at RCA for thirty years and a member of the Mineral Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Richard, of Bedford; children, Lisa Ann Dodson, of Charlotte, NC, Mike Blackwell and Jordan, Lisa Marie McKeaigg and Brandon; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Kay Reed. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Lynn.

Springville – Marilyn S. Burnette, 87, of Springville, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born January 5, 1936, in Greene Co., she was the daughter of Ralph and Mary (England) Heshelman. She married Darrell Burnette in June 1957, and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2000. She retired as an assembly worker for RCA/ Thomson Consumer Electronics. She was a member of the Hilltop Pentecostal Church and loved her family, cooking, and attending church. She enjoyed being a homemaker and mowing her yard.
Survivors include two sons, Rusty Burnette and wife, Carmen, of Springville, and Brian Burnette and wife, Ann, of Bedford; a daughter, Sheila Glasgow, of Springville; grandchildren, Andy and Justin Burnette, Amanda Beyers, Paige King, Daniel, Jonathan, and Nathaniel Glasgow; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, Jeremy Burnette; sisters, Betty, Patty and Barbara Jean.

Joyce G. Frost 73 of Mitchell passed away on Tuesday October 24, 2023, at 6:49 p.m. at IU Health in Bloomington. She was born in Mitchell on October 4, 1950, to Ernest Holt and Oma Mae (Parish) Holt. Joyce married Ronnie D. Frost on July 15, 1967, and he preceded her in death on September 29, 2021. Joyce attended Mitchell High School and was a member of Tabernacle of Grace Church. She retired from Carpenter Body Works in Mitchell after 25 years, she was co-owner with her husband of F & F Variety Store and Frosty’s Auto Sales. Joyce loved her family and friends; she never met a stranger.
Survivors include her children, Carol J. (Mark) Pottoroff of Mitchell, Ronnie D. (Tricia) Frost of Bedford, Aaron Frost of Bedford, and Joshua Wade Frost of Mitchell, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, lifelong friend, Jackie Grimes.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Kenneth Holt and Roy Holt, three sisters, Charolotte Passmore, Kathleen Massey, and Margaret Tanksley, granddaughter, Lakin Williams.

Bedford – Roy Earl Pruett, 87, of Bedford, passed away at 7:45 pm on Monday, October 23, 2023, at his residence.
Born August 29, 1936, in Bedford, he was the son of Hubert and Geneva (Robins) Pruett. He married Evelyn Hicks on February 7, 1959, and she survives. He was a fork-lift operator for Central Foundry and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #440 and attended the Baptist Church. He loved fishing and watching NASCAR racing.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of Bedford; three children, Roy D. Pruett, Lucinda Ball (Vernon), and Steven Pruett, all of Bedford; a very dear beloved grandson, Gavin Pruett; four grandchildren, Lucas, Rachell, Lydia, and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Haley, Dakota, Spencer; two brothers, Harley Pruett (Marie) and Eddie Pruett, all of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Sarah; a daughter-in-law, Henrietta; two brothers, Jim and Larry Pruett and a sister, Joyce Pemberton.

Myra Ann Henry, 77, of Clarksville, formerly of Bedford, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at University of Louisville Hospital. She was born September 17, 1946, in Bedford, the daughter of Ralph and Geraldine (Finney) Stough. She married Charles Lane and Larry Henry and they both preceded her in death.
Myra graduated from Bedford High School, class of 1964. She was a member of the Scottsburg United Methodist Church and a homemaker. She cared for special needs children and loved crocheting, photography and sewing.
Surviving to cherish Myra’s memory are her daughters, Lora Mullins and Kim (James) Harvey; five grandchildren, Glenn Manis, James Manis, Joshua (Skyla) Manis, P.J. Harvey and Michael (Bree) Harvey; 15 great grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews.
Preceding Myra in death were her parents; both husbands; two daughters, Tammy and Cathy; one grandson, Brandon Lane; one sister, Nancy Bartley; and one brother, David Stough.

Jo Ellen Stevens
Jo Ellen Stevens, 72 of Oolitic passed away on Sunday October 22, 2023, at Majestic Care in Bedford. She was born in Bedford on October 19, 1951, to Samuel Hatfield and Dorothy (Cummings) Hatfield. She married Thomas Stevens in 1991 and he survives.
Jo Ellen was a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College, she was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, she worked at RCA in Bloomington, G.E. in Bloomington and Visteon in Bedford.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Stevens of Oolitic, one son, William Christopher (Heather) Lambert of Indianapolis, granddaughter, Khrysteen Edwards of Greenwood, two great granddaughters, Penelope Sunday and Scarlett Sundy of Greenwood, two sisters, Darnell Holsapple of Bedford and Jill Beaver of Bedford, two brothers, Gregory Scott Hatfield of Mitchell and Rick (Gala) Hatfield of Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Darlene May.

Robert Warren Herr
November 23, 1937 – October 20, 2023
Robert Warren Herr (Bob), 85, of Bedford, passed away October 20, 2023 at the Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born in Michigan on November 23, 1937, he was the son of Warren and Naomi (Humbaugh) Herr.
Bob graduated from Bedford High School in 1955. He then graduated from General Motors Institute (Kettering University), where he received a BS mechanical engineering degree. He also had various graduate courses at University of Michigan and Ohio State.
While in Bedford, he served on the School Board, Jaycees, Rotary Club and varies civic clubs. He enjoyed a 37 year career in the Foundry Division of General Motors starting as a GMI co-op student and finishing as Plant Manager of the Bedford plant. The following is a summary of his work experience at General Motors. He was first a Manufacturing Supervisor in the aluminum die-casting, then Superintendent of Manufacturing followed by Production Manager. He was then General Superintendent of the Bedford plant after which he was the Superintendent of the Danville, IL plant. He continued as Plant manager of the Pontiac Michigan Foundry and was then Plant Manager of the Danville, IL Foundry, and became Manager of the Bedford plant where he retired in September of 1992.
Bob continued his career in consulting. He was Plant Manager of Contech, a division of the SPX Corporation, recruited to be Manager of their 2 die-casting plants, manufacturing steering and automobile parts. He continued as Executive Vice President and COO at CMI International. He directed CMI’s operations which included 10 manufacturing plants and 2 equipment build operations with 4500 employees that was acquisitioned by Hayes-Lemmerz Corporation. Bob was a consultant for this corporation where he was President of North American Aluminum Wheel Group. He continued at Georgia Ductile Iron, consulting as General Manager. He was a member of the American Foundry Man’s Society, Society of Automotive Engineers, Ductile Iron Society, The Foundry Association and the North American Die-Casting Association.
Bob is survived by his wife Phyllis and children Karen Hembree (Fred) of New Palestine, Jonathan Herr (Joni) of Vincennes, Robert Herr (LeAnn) of Bedford, and Christa Fulkerson (Brandon) of Bedford; as well as Mike Simpson (Jackie) of Fishers, Troy Simpson (Shannon) of Bedford, and Kenny Simpson, of Bedford; grandchildren, Thomas Herr (Danielle), Stephen Hembree (Tori), Justin Hembree (Priyanka), Nathan and Morgan Herr, Grace and Gabe Fulkerson, Ashle’ Stalder (Derrick), Kenneth Scott Simpson (Amanda) and Grant Simpson; five great-grandchildren; sister, Sara LuAllen; sister-in-law, Shirley Herr; brother-in-law David McPike; and several nieces and nephews; chosen family, Mike Eshbach (Melissa), Evan and Emily.
Preceding Bob in death are his parents, Warren and Naomi Herr; brother, Randall Herr; and sister, Sharon McPike.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the Bedford Free Methodist Church with Pastor Adam Strauser officiating. Bob will be laid to rest at Cresthaven Memorial Gardens at a graveside service immediately following the funeral.

Ronald Warren “Sugarbear” Watterson
MITCHELL – Ronald Warren “Sugarbear” Watterson, 78, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born July 4, 1945, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, he was the son of Robert Orval and Anna Grace (Curry) Watterson. Ronnie married Deloris Ann Hart on November 1, 1968 and they were married for almost 55 years.
Ronnie retired from Hall Bros. Transportation after many years as a truck driver. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post No. 250. Ronnie was a Deacon at Mitchell First Christian Church. He loved to fish, play his trumpet, and do woodworking. Ronnie never met a stranger and always had a smile to share. He loved to tell stories and sometimes tall tales. Ronnie was a great mechanic, and his granddaughter Chloe once said, “There was nothing Grampy couldn’t fix.”
Surviving are his wife, Deloris Ann Watterson of Mitchell; daughter, Lori Ann Watterson Fiscus of Mitchell; and granddaughter, Chloe Lynn Fiscus.
His parents and daughter, Terri Lynn Watterson, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Brian Bolton and Pastor Kirk Williams officiating. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

Dr. Robert Tirey Burton
It is with great sadness that we announce, Dr. Robert Tirey Burton passed away at the age of 93, on the day of Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Robert was born April 18th, 1930, in Mitchell, Indiana. Robert is the son of Willard Eli and Sarah Mahala (Tirey) Burton.
Robert was a Son of the American Revolution, a direct descendant to John Pleasant Burton, Infantry American Revolution Virginia. His family settled in Lawrence County, Indiana, following the Revolutionary War, in what is known as Burton Gap. Robert was baptized in the Liberty Baptist Church located in Mitchell, Indiana. He grew up on the Burton family farms and enjoyed all the activities necessary in running them.
Robert loved growing up in Mitchell. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1949. He was active in many sports and enjoyed performing in the Mitchell High School Band. He was also honored to be a delegate to Indiana Boy State. While performing a lead role in a Mitchell High School production he was introduced to his future wife, Maralyn Ann Fletcher, who was playing the female lead role. Upon graduation from Mitchell High School, he and his future wife, Maralyn Fletcher, attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. They enjoyed their studies, participation in the Depauw Marching Band, and other college activities up until Robert was drafted into the U.S. Army, to face combat in the Korean War. In 1951, Robert married Maralyn Fletcher prior to his deployment, at Jacob Finger United Methodist Church in Mitchell, Indiana. He obtained the rank of Sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division 35th Infantry Regt. L Co. from 1952-1953.
Upon returning to the United States, Robert immediately enrolled into Indiana University, Bloomington Campus. Robert would go on to earn three degrees: Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate of Education. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Educational Honorary Society. He served on the Indiana University Faculty-Bloomington Campus, instructing students enrolled in the Doctoral Program with a finance emphasis. Robert was always interested from a young age in education. He was positively influenced by two family members who achieved the position of University Presidents. Robert was principal of Seymour High School and acting superintendent at the Seymour Community Schools. He was superintendent of Clinton Prairie Schools and Brownstown Schools.
Robert and Maralyn were married on January 13, 1951. They enjoyed raising their three sons, Scott David, Brian Allen, and Thomas Robert. Robert was a dedicated husband and father. He committed to be available for all events in which his family was involved alongside his busy professional career. He showed his wife and sons the world through travel. He encouraged his sons to achieve higher education, which all three did.
Robert was a very generous person and was a generous donor to many philanthropies. He was a life-long sports lover and dedicated Hoosier fan, holding Indiana University football and basketball season tickets over the years. He loved the outdoors, was an avid reader, and was known as a student of history. Robert enjoyed being a member and resident at the Lake and Forest Club, located in Brownstown Indiana, for many decades. His passions at the club were boating, fishing, and serving on the board.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maralyn Ann (Fletcher) Burton, who passed away in 2013; parents, Willard and Mahala Burton; brother, Willard Eli Burton, Jr.; sister-in-law, June Burton; and brother-in-law, David Allen Fletcher.
Robert is survived by his three sons and their families; Scott (Mary) Burton of Fortville, IN, Brian (Susan) Burton of Fishers, IN, and Tom (Julie) Burton of Fishers, IN; six cherished grandchildren, Christina (Thomas) Jackson & children, Leah, Nora; Nicholas (Carolyn) Burton; Andrew (Lisann) Burton; Kelli (Kyle) Smythe & children, Zachary, Ryan; Sarah Burton & children: Kaiden, Maralyn; and Fletcher Burton; sister-in-law, Joan (Ramey) Fletcher; nieces and nephews, Jill (Burton) Thomas, Amy (Burton) Howard, Tony Burton, Mark Fletcher, and John Fletcher; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 28, in Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with David Powell officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Robert will be missed terribly by his family and friends. Thank you Robert for all you have done. You have led a very interesting and meaningful life.

Jon S. Heichelbech
Jon Stanley Heichelbech, 70, a resident of Bedford, IN, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023 in North Fort Myers, FL. He was born November 18, 1952 in Washington, IN to Edward and Alma (Fuhrman) Heichelbech, both deceased.
Jon was confirmed as a Lutheran and later became a member of First Baptist Church, Bedford. He graduated high school in Shoals, IN with the class of 1970 and was also Northwood College graduate.
Jon was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from General Motors as a Development Engineer.
Jon attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He also served on the Bedford Parade committee since the late 1980s, for both the Bedford Christmas and Limestone Heritage Festival parades. He was a member of the Bedford Lions Club, serving in many positions for the Club. He co-chaired the Lions Pancake Festivals and built ramps for local disabled folks. Jon also worked in Kairos Prison Ministry.
Jon loved his travels with family and friends throughout the United States and the world. He wrote and published a book on the Heichelbech and Fuhrman family history.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Heichelbech; children, Jamie (Scott) Nikirk of Bedford, and Adam (Jill) Heichelbech of Bloomington, IN; sister, Pamela Cornett (Roger, deceased) of Pittsboro, IN; as well as grandchildren, Kaden, Allison, Elijah, and Hudson Nikirk. He loved to travel with them, teach them everything he knew in the kitchen, tell stories and spend time outdoors with them. The grandkids loved to harvest pears, berries, grapes, pecans and hazelnuts with him in his back yard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31st at Calvary Lutheran Church, 3705 Austin Drive, Bedford with Pastors Greg Zakian and Lee Brown officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral services from 9:00 am to the time of service at the church on Tuesday, and from 12 noon until 7:00 pm on Monday, October 30th at Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford.

Barbara Jean Hall, 93, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the I.U. Health Paoli Hospital. Born March 15, 1930, she was the daughter of John and Lora (Hackler) Kern. She married Robert Kenneth Hall on September 3, 1948 and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2012.
Barbara was the Valedictorian of the Fayetteville High School Class of 1948. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Eastern Star, and was an avid bingo player. She loved fishing and gardening as well as spending time with her family.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Barbara are her children, Robert K. Hall II, Kathy J. (Bill) Jones and Dr. Daniel L. (Kim) Hall; Grandchildren, Shannon (Dr. Joey) Spires, Dr. Nathan (Holly) Hall, Lauren (Brian) Simpson, Dr. Baron (Erica) Hall, Robert K. Hall III, John (Lindsey) Hall, Dr. Tyson (Tia) Medlock, Tanner (Pattaraysea) Medlock, Dr. Tate Medlock, Eric (Hollie) Jones, Katie Jones, Jonathon Jones, Aaron Jones, Tia Jones, Trey Jones and T. J. Jones; and 20 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Clara Armstrong; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lora Kern; her husband, Robert; brothers, Ray (Blanch) Kern, Carl (Catherine) Kern; Sisters, Myrtle Rose Kern, Edith Hays, Ina (Soap) Sutherlin, and Mary (Curt) Burch.

Freeland D. “Butch” Poole
May 13, 1947 – October 18, 2023
Butch Poole, 76, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Westview Nursing and Rehab in Bedford. Born in Lawrence County on May 13, 1947, he was the son of John F. Poole and Ida Bell Tincher.
Butch graduated form Mitchell High School and in the late 60’s and early 70’s was the lead singer in local band “The Seeds of Life” where he was known to friends and family as “Freddie”. Throughout his life he worked for TLC, owned a construction operation, and retired as head of maintenance for Oakland City University, Bedford. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and I.U. Sports, but most importantly, spending time with family.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Butch are his daughters, Holly (Tim) Deckert and Hope (Jacob) Boulton; sons, Ryan (April) Poole, Andrew (Cerae) Flynn and Devon Flynn; granddaughters, Jensen (Trent) Persinger, Landyn Deckert, Haley (Mikey) Blair, Madeline Ames and Violet Boulton; great granddaughters, Leah and Robin; great grandson, Sampson; brother, John (Elise) Poole; step siblings Eric Hague, John Hague and Susie (Merv) Cummins; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Butch in death are his parents; brother Rick Poole; sister, Linda “Susie” Poole and stepmother, Vera C. Poole.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, October 23, 2023 with Ralph “Frog” Poole officiating. Burial will follow at Hopkins Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 11:00am-1:00pm, also at Ferguson-Lee.

Cheryl S. Fleming, 71, of Bedford, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at Our Hospice of Columbus. She was born August 28, 1952, in Bedford, to Jerry Franklin and Carol Sue (Sons) Melvin.
Cheryl was a high school graduate, a seamstress and had worked for JoAnn Fabrics in Bedford and Bloomington.
Surviving to cherish Cheryl’s memory is her father, Jerry (Ruth) Melvin of Mitchell; two sons, Ken (Michelle) Utley of Oakland, TN, and Robert (Julie) Utley of Belton, TX; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and three brothers, Jerry Dennis Melvin, Randy Melvin and Charlie Melvin.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother.

James Kenneth “Kenny” Nett

Kenny Nett, 77, of Bedford, IN, passed away October 14, 2023, at Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born September 13, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Carl R. Nett and Agnita (Bryan) Nett. He married Mary Beth Hunter on May 30, 1968, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and she survives.
Kenny graduated from St. Xavier High School of Louisville and earned a BA from I.U. Southeast. He was a retired accountant, member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Viet Nam War.
Surviving to cherish Kenny’s memory are his wife, Mary Beth of Bedford; daughter, Maggie Albright of Indianapolis; sons, Jon (Hope) Nett of Bedford and Robert (Marci) Nett of Lady Lake, Florida; nine grandchildren, Jacob Cornett, Ben, Jack and Daniel Albright, Evelyn, Vivienne, Samuel, Elijah and Miriam Nett; siblings, Mary Bloemer, Carl, Michael, David and Danny Nett; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Kenny in death were his parents; siblings, Paul, Fred, Ronnie, Tommy, Billy and Patrick Nett.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Jegan Peter and Deacon David Reising officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Gillen Post #33. Burial will follow at a later date. Ruth A. Harrell
Ruth A. Harrell, 73 of Bedford passed away on Sunday October 15, 2023, at 7:17 a.m. at IU Health in Bedford. She was born in Bedford on June 1, 1950, to Fred and Evelyn (Underwood) Fields. Ruth married Joe Harrell on May 25, 1975, and he survives. Ruth retired from Dunn Hospital in Bedford.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Harrell of Bedford, one daughter, Brandy (Jason) Grant of Indianapolis, grandchildren, Alexia (Nick) Cochran of Bedford, Dezman Harrell of Bedford, Breanna (Luis) Grant of Indianapolis, and Kealee (Justin) Knust of Jasper, two great grandchildren, Rowen and Rydlee Cochran of Bedford. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, April Harrell, grandson, Isaac Kopsho, and sister, Diane Bridwell.

Mary Rose Cummings, 92, of Bedford, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, in Ocala, FL.
Born March 9, 1931, in Lawrence County Indiana She was the daughter of Fay and Villa Johnson. She married Jack Cummings on March 11, 1949. They were married for 71 years.
Rose worked in the Lawrence County Courthouse for 40 years. She was a very loving mom and grandma. Her house was always open to anyone. She dearly loved her family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the First Church of God.
Survivors include Son Mike (Kathy), son. Terry (Lana). Grandchildren Brad (Carol), Jamie
(Lori), Matt (Becky), Angela (Clayton), Bub(Amanda), Wendy (Tim), and Melissa (James).
Great-grandchildren Brailey Zakry, Larissa, Lilyann, Loralie, Morgan, Lexie, Chase, Kyston,
Camden, Timothy, Ashlynn, SkyLynn, Brittany, Breanna, Braxton, Kendalyn, Mason, and

Beverly S. Kern
May 8, 1937 – October 14, 2023
Bedford – Beverly S. Kern, 86, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 1:45 am at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born May 8, 1937, she was the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Taylor) Walker. She married Louis “Corky” Kern on March 9, 1954, and he survives. She was a salesclerk at JC Penny and a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. She had also been a Pink Lady Volunteer at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, a former member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority and former 4-H Leader. Beverly was known for her extraordinary seamstress skills having made BHS Cutterette and BNL Cheer uniforms for many years, in addition to her daughters’ wedding dresses, homecoming and prom dresses and countless other wedding and bridal party dresses for friends. She made sure she taught her daughters the art of sewing and encouraged them to participate in 4-H clothing projects and other regional sewing competitions. For many years, Beverly also operated a ceramic shop in her home, using her artistic talents to instruct others in the painting and design of ceramic products. She and Corky were constant supporters of all interests of their children which carried over into their grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. Although Beverly was not a great sports enthusiast, she rarely missed a basketball, football, baseball, softball, golf or volleyball game to cheer on her family members. Often times she could be seen knitting or crocheting in the stands while watching her family participate. She loved her family well.
Survivors include her high-school sweetheart and husband of over 69 years, Corky Kern of Bedford; two daughters, Teresa Saunders and Susan Gales; grandchildren, Christopher (Michelle) Anderson, Angela (Chris) Pedersen, Andrew (Kelsey) Kern, Bethany (Chris) Bell, Jordan (Mindy) Morris, Chris (Amy) Gales, Rachel Gales and Katy (Zac) Holmes; twenty great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Kern; a grandson, Dylan Kern, and son-in-law, Roger Gales, her brother, Eugene Walker and his wife Joan.

Born on March 1, 1947, in Jackson, TN, she was the daughter of Charles R. and Clara E. (Parker) Herrington. She married Charles T. Bugh, and he preceded her in death on September 25, 2023. She loved the outdoors and spending time with her family and friends.

Nina was a 1969 graduate of Mitchell High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed going to yard sales and collecting. Nina loved spending time with her family.

Travis Emery Stinson
BEDFORD – Travis Emery Stinson, 45, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023. Born September 4, 1978, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Troy M., Sr. and Teresa F. (Goldsby) Stinson. He married Peggy Pemberton on July 19, 1997 and she survives. Travis worked as a heavy machine operator. He enjoyed fishing in his free time. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Stinson of Bedford; and children, Adam (Tana Marshall) Stinson of Bedford and Trevor (Pearl Schulz) Stinson of Bedford. Crystal Ann Flinn

Crystal Ann Flinn, 61, of Heltonville, passed away on October 10, 2023 at the Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis. Born November 1, 1961 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Charles and Ila (Russier) Roberts.
Crystal was a homemaker and had attended Shoals Jr. & Sr. High Schools. She was a member of the Arbor Day Foundation and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, coloring and drawing. She was very artistic.
Surviving Crystal is her daughter, Christy Flinn; two sons, Jason A. Flinn and Murl D. Flinn; former daughter-in-law, Melinda Hunter-Flinn; brother, Richard Lee Roberts; sisters, Louise Wade, Debbie Tharp and Marie Nelson; grandchildren, Dakota Gage Flinn, Gavin Lee Swank, Lorenz Hunter and Eris Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ila; and a sister, Ida May Roberts.

Susan Rae Sparrow
SPARROW, SUSAN RAE, 66, of Paoli, passed away on October 7, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Susan was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, she married Jay Sparrow in 1975. The couple recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.
She was an accomplished seamstress, working for Turner Dolls for many years before turning to designing and crafting her own creations under the name Susan Sparrow’s Sewing, which she sold at markets and craft shows, enjoying a loyal clientele and gaining many friends.
She was known as a wonderful host who welcomed everyone to her home. In addition to hosting her own family gatherings, the Sparrow house became a second home and family to many of her children’s friends, offering a friendly environment to relax and feel loved and seen.
Never one to stifle her opinion, Susan was a singular personality that gave of her big heart freely.
An avid University of Louisville and Green Bay Packers fan, she loved science fiction, music of all sorts, and had large collections of almost any kind of kitschy item she found interesting, pretty, or odd.
Susan was the daughter of the late K. H. Shaw III and Mary Lou (Beyerle) Shaw. She was predeceased by her siblings David Anthony and Kay Ann.
She is survived by her husband Jay Sparrow; children Osula Kirby, Sheila Sparrow-Hearth (Joel), Jessica Hoggatt (Michael), and Phillip Sparrow (Stephanie); grandchildren Jaudon Kirby, Jr., Anastasia Clifton, Nickelloas Clifton, and Donald Clifton; siblings Dennis Shaw (Luanne), Robert Shaw (Debbie), Andrea Mills (Kevin), Knowles "Buddy" Shaw IV (Becky), and John Shaw (Melissa).

Connie “Ma” Duquette East
BEDFORD – Connie “Ma” Duquette East, 82, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 8, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Born July 6, 1941, in Hartford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Arthur J. and Marie C. (Marcoux) Duquette. Connie fell in love with her husband Fred East and they were quickly married on May 10, 1958. This year they celebrated 65 loving years together.
Connie worked for North Lawrence Community Schools for many years. Upon retirement, she and Fred continued their adventures traveling the country and making many new friends along the way. Connie was a member of the Bedford Boat & Sportmen’s Club, Harbor Cove Boat Club in North Port, Florida, AmVets Post 312 of North Port, Florida, Stone City Corvette Club, and the Cedar Valley Golf Couples League. Connie loved fiercely and would do anything for anyone, especially her family.
Surviving are her husband, Fred East of Bedford; children, Kathleen “Kathy” Bechtel of Bedford and Kyle Ellingsworth of Bedford; grandchildren, Adrea (Justin Smith) Simmerman, Alaina (Anthony Zrebiec) Shirley, Alex (Ashley) Shirley, Michael (Makayla) Ellingsworth, and Cody (Jaleena Graber) Ellingsworth; great-grandchildren, Jacob Simmerman, Jacey Simmerman, Jerzey Ellingsworth, Kinley Ellingsworth, Khloe Ellingsworth, and Barrett Shirley; and siblings, Ted (Chris) Duquette of Florida and Michael (Lynne) Duquette of Maine.

Born July 2, 1941, in Lawrence County IN, she was the daughter of Nova T. and Ruby (Hines) Hensley. Janice owned Classic Cuts Salon for many years, and later retired from Indiana Gas as a line surveyor. She was a graduate of Oolitic High School Class of 1959. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority, and American Legion Auxiliary. Janice loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed riding around on her golf cart and socializing with friends at Wildridge RV Resort.
Survivors include her companion of 31 years Jimmie Goins of Bedford; her children, son Joel Scott Hatfield of Bedford, daughter Susan (Hatfield) Hammond and husband Gary of Bedford; grandchildren Michael Hatfield and wife Brittney of Bloomington and Rhett Hensley of Bloomington; great-grandchildren Cooper, Dax, and Molly Hatfield of Bloomington. Janice was proceeded in death by her parents, three sisters Norma Bagby, Wilma Byers, and Irene Murray, and two brothers Roger and Wendell Hensley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Father Jegan Peter and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Born September 2, 1960, in Bedford, he was the son of Charles Donald and Sondra Sue (Fender) Johnson. He was a self-employed car detailer and auto body repairman.
Survivors include his mother, Sondra Johnson, of Bedford; three children, Christopher Johnson, of Mitchell, Raymond Johnson, of Bedford, and Jerry Johnson and wife, Christy, of Crothersville; four grandchildren and one due in January; a step-son, Robert Lemmons, of Mitchell; nine step-grandchildren; siblings, Debra Godsey and husband, Bob, of Oolitic, Toni Wiggs and husband, Mark, of Williams; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

Donald Eugene Morecraft, Sr. passed peacefully from this life on October 6,2023 following a fall the day before. He was 85 years old. Don was born on May 30, 1938 to Francis Josephine Davis and Harold Eugene Morecraft in Paris, Illinois. Don graduated from Paris High School in 1957 and joined the US Air Force. Following his service, he made his home in Paris where he operated the Morecraft Painting Company. Don went on to build many houses in the Paris, Illinois area as well as Apple Valley, CA. Don also lived in Mesa, AZ and Memphis, TN. Don was living with his daughter Melinda at the time of his death in Bedford, Indiana.
Don is survived by his partner, Nancy; his children - Donald Morecraft, Stephanie (Dan) Toller, Mel (Randy) Roach, Shanda (Robert) St Clair; Grandchildren - Chastine (Chris) Owens, Tabitha Webster, Sarah (Jeff) Hoffman, Brooke Toller, Jacob (Sandra) Toller, Matt (Lynette) Roach and Zach (Tiana) Roach; great grandchildren - Faith Daugherty, Zaine Daugherty, Grant Owens, Zoey Hoffman, Andrew Hoffman, Kalen Roach, Ayden Webster and Chase Roach; One brother, Jim (Debbie) Morecraft; and four sisters, Eleanor Barbalas, Anna Purcell, Nancy (Joe) Creech and Suzy Brading; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Francis and Gene; his brother, Bob Morecraft; three sisters - JoAnn, Patsy and Mary Ruth; and daughter-in-law, Susan Morecraft.
The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care that he received from the ER and 3rd floor staff at IU Health Bloomington. A heartfelt thank you to the team at SouthernCare Hospice for their quick response and their loving compassion, especially Alissa, Dan, Kelly and Rick.
While we are heartbroken at the loss of our Dad, we take comfort that he is with loved ones on the other side of the veil. Our Dad loved Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father, spending a considerable amount of his later years immersed in the scriptures. There will be a celebration of his life held at a later date.

Gerald Eugene Brown, 79, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at his residence. Born August 1, 1944, he was the son of Timothy A. and Renia M. (Staggs) Brown. He married Analyn Abella, and she survives.
Gerald was a graduate of the Tunnelton High School and was a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He retired as an electrician with the IBEW of Evansville.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Gerald is his wife, Analyn; his daughters, Marisol Brown and Rocio Brown Jimenez; sons, Gerald Brown, Jr and Lee Gerald Brown; granddaughters, Micayla Roe, Cecilia Roe and Cielito Bern; great grandchildren, Caden Bern, Birdie Vern and Mercy Bern; brothers, Larry Brown, Bob Brown and Danny Brown; and his sister, Alice Brown. Born October 23, 1961, he was the son of James Lowell and Nina Sue (Gore) Robertson. He married Deborah Hopf on June 7, 2014, and she survives. He was a truck driver.

Robert L. Holmes (Gunny) of Odon, Indiana passed away October the 5th at Daviess County Hospital. He served 20 years in the United States Marine Corp and worked at Crane Naval Center for over 20 years. He loved to travel and is survived by his wife Sharry Holmes, sons Paul Michael Holmes (Patty) and Wayne Holmes (Pat), and daughters Barbara Hopper and Charla Gilbert (Shawn). He also had many grandkids, great-grandkids, great-great grandkids, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Karl Holmes, brother David Holmes, and sisters Glenda Lucas and Sharon Pickering, and son Richard Holmes (Paula).

Warren E. Chaney, 80 of Bedford passed away on Wednesday October 4, 2023, at 12:40 p.m. at his home. He was born in Bedford on May 10, 1943, to Warren and Bernice (Kern) Chaney. Warren married his wife Peggy on February 6, 2001, and she survives. Warren was a retired truck driver, retiring from Jefferson Trucking in Shoals, he served nine years in the Indiana National Guard, he was of Christian faith and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Bedford.

Born October 19, 1958 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Lenuel and Betsy (Jones) Stancombe. She married Timothy Ray Jean on November 9, 1973 and he survives.
Debra had worked for Rest Care and had been a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Tim Jean of Mitchell; sons, Gregory (Leslie) Jean of Evansville, Jacob (Sheli) Jean of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Tylor Jean of Mitchell; grandchildren, Brayden, Carter, Aiden, Paisley, Logan, Seth, and Madison.

MITCHELL- Ralph Patrick Tanksley, 87, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at his residence.
Born March 17, 1936, he was the son of Roy Noble and Ruby (Taylor) Tanksley. He married Charlotte Kay Hopper on August 19, 1956, and she survives.
Ralph was a 1956 graduate of Mitchell High School and was awarded the Oral Dalton Award. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church. Ralph retired from Lehigh Cement Company and after retirement worked at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Ralph and Kay operated R & K Gifts and County Pathways for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, golfing, and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. Ralph was a great cook and an even better family man. He was a friend to all.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Tanksley of Mitchell; daughter, Kathleen Louise (Dwight) Gilstrap of Paris, Tennessee; son, Kevin Lee (Melissa) Tanksley of Loogootee; and grandchildren, Shelby (Bailey) McNary, Emily Gilstrap, Abby Grace Gilstrap, Zachary (Joy) Tanksley, and Bailey Tanksley.

BEDFORD – Marcella “Marcie” Rena Powell, 59, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Bell Trace Senior Living Community.
Born February 27, 1964, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Robert Eugene and Dorothy Jane (Mounce) Terrell.
Marcie was a 1981 graduate of Mitchell High School. She worked as an LPN for Brickyard Healthcare and had been a hairstylist for many years. Marcie was a member of the Tabernacle of Praise and loved going to church. She was a board member of the Lawrence County Suicide Prevention Coalition. Marcie loved hiking and just being outdoors.
Surviving are her son, Craig Powell of Bedford; granddaughter, Jayla Powell; siblings, Tony (Shelly) Terrell of Huron and Kevin (Sabrina) Terrell of Williams; parents, Robert and Dorothy Terrell of Bedford; companion, Scott Tirey of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews that she was always there for.
Her siblings, Bobby Terrell, Connie Spires, and Donnie Spires, preceded her in death.

Shirley Ann (Walls) Dillon
Shirley Ann (Walls) Dillon, age 87, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away on October 1. 2023 at the IU Health Hospital in Bedford. She was born on January 26, 1936, to the late Ranza and Ruth Walls of Hillham, Indiana and was the eldest of four children. She was a 1953 graduate of Shoals High School and attended French Lick High School briefly. She married Robert E. Dillon on December 19, 1954, and has one child, Robert E. Dillon, Jr. of Bedford who survives. Shirley retired from NSWC Crane in 1992 after working for a number of years for the Veteran’s Administration and Public Service Indiana where she was one of the three first female supervisors in the mid 1960’s. She is also survived by one sister, Sharon Cox (Eugene) of French Lick, Indiana. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, Shelby Rominger of West Baden, Indiana, and one brother, Rick Walls of West Baden, Indiana. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Dillon, Courtney (Carter) Martling, and Ashley (Ralph) Sturgeon; and her great grandsons Robert and Matthew Dillon and TJ Martling. Shirley is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Born June 18, 1958, in Anderson, he was the son of Leroy and Wanda (Swafford) Patton. He married Melissa Hunter on January 16, 2009, and she survives. He was a carpet installer for over twenty-five years and had worked at General Motors. He enjoyed golfing and watching the Indianapolis Colts. He loved his family and spending time with the grandkids.

July 25, 1960 – September 20, 2023
Henry S. Acton, III, 63, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at I.U. Health Hospital, Paoli. He was born July 25, 1960, in Bedford, to Henry and Lottie (Stotts) Acton.
Henry was a 25-year employee of Walmart and a member of the National Guard.
Surviving to cherish Henry’s memory is his brother, James Acton; nephew, Chris Easterday; and two great nephews, Eli and Treyton.
Preceding Henry in death were his parents; and a sister, Suzanne Kay Von Wahlde.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the New Union Christian Church Cemetery in Bedford.
Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Homes in Bedford has been entrusted with Henry’s care.

Paula Rene’ Thomas
May 4, 1966 – September 29, 2023
Springville – Paula Rene’ Thomas, 57, of Springville, passed away at 3:19 am on Friday, September 29, 2023, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born May 4, 1966, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of William E. and Wilma L. (Hadden) Melton. She retired as an assistant manager at Dollar General Stores and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Bryan Thomas (Emily), of Columbia City, IN, and Dustin Thomas, of Bedford; grandchildren, Bryanna Thomas, Aiden Thomas, Chase Thomas, Hunter Thomas, and baby boy Thomas; a sister, Venita Barley (Douglas), of Bedford; her fiancé, Brian Taylor, of Springville; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great niece; her mother-in-law, Patsy J. Coulter, of Ellettsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, William, Henry, and George; a son, Christopher (in infancy); a sister, Mary Godsey; her father-in-law, Rick Coulter; maternal and paternal grandparents.

Terry Lee McCameron
MITCHELL – Terry Lee McCameron, 81, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at his residence. Born February 5, 1942, in Kentucky, he was the son of Edwin and Mary (Watterson) McCameron. He married Peggy R. Beasley on November 1, 1963 and she survives. Terry was a 1962 graduate of Mitchell High School and attended Carters Creek Christian Church. He worked as the manager of South Lawrence Water Company. He loved fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, riding his motorcycle, and making things. Terry enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Peggy R. McCameron of Mitchell; children, Timothy L. (Brenda) McCameron of Mitchell, Mark A. McCameron of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Teresa McCameron of Bloomington; grandchildren, Zachary (Olivia) McCameron, Gaje Hurst, Nekoda (Olivia) McCameron, Cameron Hurst, Mimi K. McCameron, and Kara Leigh McCameron; and great-grandchildren, John McCameron, Anara Hurst, Marcus McCameron, Layken McCameron, and Clara McCameron. His parents and brothers, David McCameron and William McCameron, preceded him in death. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Minister Phil McDonald officiating. Bedford – Alan Roberts, 71, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Westview Nursing and Rehab. in Bedford.
Born May 19, 1952, in Bedford, he was the son of Dale E. and Elizabeth M. (Chalmers) Roberts.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhiannon Oltman, of Bloomington; two grandsons, Chase and Caid Oltman; two sisters, Belinda Fender (Don) and Vicki Elaine Armstrong, all of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Alana Roberts and a sister, Kathy Wagoner.

Brenda Lou McNabb
MITCHELL – Brenda Lou McNabb, 83, passed away peacefully Friday, September 29, 2023, at home in bed with her husband by her side. Born July 4, 1940, in Silverville, she was the daughter of Reverend Frank Canada and Florence (Wright) Canada Carey. She married Larry McNabb on March 18, 1966 and he survives. Brenda was a member of Mitchell Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed shopping for purses, getting her nails done, and crocheting. Brenda’s family was her greatest joy. Survivors include her husband, Larry McNabb of Mitchell; children, Greg A. (Richelle) Onley of Mitchell, Marsha K. (Kenny) Edwards of Mitchell, Don W. (JoDeana) McNabb of Mitchell, and Michelle R. (Jeff) Scholl of Mitchell; grandchildren, Ryan (Danielle), Heather (Robbie), Stephanie, Kyle, Whitney (Nathan), Mindy (Scott), Lucas, Lillie, Jacob, and Maggie; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter (and one on the way). Her parents; twin brother, Roger Franklin Canada; and brother, Jerry Lee Canada, preceded her in death. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Martha Jane Dumond
September 12, 1950 – September 29, 2023
Martha Jane Dumond, 73, of Williams, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington. Born September 12, 1950, she was the daughter of Raymond Dumond and Mary Frances (Tolbert) Dumond.
Martha Jane was a graduate of Mitchell High School class of 1968 and had a Technical Certificate from Ivy Tech. She worked at M. Fine and Sons as well as Cook, Inc. and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Although Martha Jane never married or had children of her own, she took a key role in raising her younger siblings after the death of their mother. Family was everything to her. While looking at family photo albums a friend once commented that when Jane was in a picture, she always had a child on her lap. For her youngest siblings she was a second mother, and for other youngsters she was “Mother Martha”.
Even though she was unable in the last few years to tend to a flower garden, she appreciated the color and beauty of them very much. Her favorite activities were playing games and cards with family and friends.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Martha Jane are her three sisters, Mary Dumond, Patricia “Pat” Kidwell and Susan Dumond; three brothers, Randy Dumond, Roger (Cheryl) DuMond and Steve (Beth) Dumond; two nephews, Alan DuMond and Jason Cooper; two nieces, Nichole (Scott) Schoettmer and Leslie Jackson; one great nephew, Paul Schoettmer; two great nieces, Clair and Kate Schoettmer; and her aunt, Carolyn Sue (Roy) Waggoner. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lennie Dumond.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Bud Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Port Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday October 2, 2023 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Andy McKnight, Jason, Scott Schoettmer, Paul Schoettmer, Alan DuMond, Donnie Miller and Randy Bex.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Port William Cemetery Association or the Huron Volunteer Fire Department.
