Amber Elaine George, 68, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at her residence.

Born December 22, 1952, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of John David and Sharon Laverne (Elkins) Livingston. She had worked at M. Fine & Sons.

Survivors include her father, John Livingston; cousins, William Hicks, Timmy Hicks, Carla Siedl, Sammy Hicks, and Kyle Hicks.

She was preceded in death by her mother and a son, Varian Slade George.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 2nd at Clover Hill Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled.

Carmon A. Butcher

Carmon A. Butcher, 62 of Bedford passed away November 27, 2021 at the Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital. She was born January 27, 1959 in Monroe County to Perry Lee Axsom and Martha Louise Cazee Axsom.

Carmon was a 1977 graduate of Bloomington High School South and worked with Cook Medical Devices. While she and husband didn’t belong to a particular church she was very proud to call herself a Christian.

She leaves behind her husband Danny L. Butcher of Bedford. Son Danny Lee Butcher and wife Amanda; grandchildren Cody Lee, Colton Waine and Josie Danielle Butcher; brother William Axsom and his wife Kathleen, sisters Sarah Siscoe and husband Dennis, Donna Smith and husband Bill, and Beth Ingram and partner Ben Ingram; niece Jennifer Hawkins and husband Jason, nephews Greg Carter, Ethan Smith and Nick Butcher, and nieces Ashley Blackwell, and Kim Carter.

She was predeceased by her parents and a nephew Ryan Carter.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday December 1, 2021 at 1:30PM at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 South Old State Road 37. Burial will follow in the Valhalla Memorial Gardens. Visitation will also be held at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday from 11:00AM to the time of the service at 1:30PM.

Warren Dale Hannum

Warren Dale Hannum, 77, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at compassus Hospice in Indianapolis.

Born September 24, 1944, in Bedford, he was the son of Warren and Catherine (Stewart) Hannum. He was a computer technician for Herald-Times Newspaper in Bloomington retiring after thirty-nine years. He was a veteran of the Air Force and member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion where he served on the honor guard, Bloomington Eagles, Oolitic V.F.W. and the Bedford Boat & Sportsman’s Club.

Survivors include a son, Alan Hannum, of Heltonville; his significant other, Diane Golubski, of Bedford; his former wife, Mona Hannum, of Bedford; a sister, Elizabeth Hurley, of Oolitic; a nephew, Robbie Hurley; two nieces, Ayshea Sharpe and Phyllis Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Burgess.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 2nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday at the mortuary.

Timothy Wayne Armitage

July 19, 1967 — Nov. 25, 2021

Timothy Wayne Armitage age 54 of Bedford passed away on Thursday November 25, 2021 at 11:54 Pm at St. Vincent-Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

He was born on July 19, 1967 in Dayton, Ohio to Dawson Armitage and Jill (Fleming) Armitage. Timothy married Villa Estilo on October 31, 2012 in the Philippines and she survives.

He was a welder and worked as an Assembler at C & M Conveyor in Mitchell, he attended the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses.

Survivors include his wife, Villa Armitage of Bedford, his parents, Dawson and Jill Armitage of Bedford, one son, Michael Paul Armitage, and his wife Cara Armitage, both of Xenia, Ohio, two step-daughters, Lexan Grace Estilo and Lavilla Estilo of the Philippines, one sister, Anisa Michelle Armitage of Bedford, two grandchildren, Levi and Annabel Armitage.

Cremation was chosen, Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.

Richard Peter Dyben

Richard Peter Dyben, age 76, passed early in the morning of Thursday, November 18, at the Core of Bedford Nursing Facility.

Mr. Dyben had been a resident of Core for the past four years, moving to Bedford from Indianapolis. Richard was born to the Catholic Faith on November 8, 1945 to Frank Joseph and Gladys Mary (Barus) Dyben in Hinsdale, Illinois.

Richard enjoyed fishing and sports. He always tried to do better and most folks liked and knew him as a gentleman. He graduated from Downers Grove High School in Illinois and served four years in the US Army. While living in Indianapolis, Richard retired as a tradesman working in factories building parts.

Richard is survived by his loving sister and brother; Mary Gentes of Mound, MN; and John Dyben of Florida.

He is preceded in death by a son, Timothy Dyben; a baby sister, Rita Mae Dyben; and a brother, Jerry Dyben.

Visitation for Richard Peter Dyben will be from 9:00 am until 10:00 am Tuesday, November 30 with his funeral following. All at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, Bedford.

Phyllis Vestal

Phyllis Vestal, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 11:20 am on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at I.U. Health Hospice House.

Born June 3, 1935, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Ansel and Margaret (Cora) Luther. She was a nurses aide.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and William Blackburn.

Brittany Schoolcraft

Brittany Schoolcraft, 34, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.

Born April 1, 1987, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Robert Ray and Tamara “Tammi” (Hazel) Souders. She married Troy Schoolcraft and he survives. She was a homemaker.

Surviving, with her husband, is a daughter, Danika Volk, at home; a brother, William Souders, of Colorado; a sister, Brooklyn Souders, of Seymour, IN; her parents; her grandpa, Robert Wayne Souders.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Kristina Souders.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 26th at Dive Cemetery with Pastor David Ferry officiating.

Steven R. “Steve” Hawkins

Rev. Steven R. “Steve” Hawkins, 65, of Bedford, peacefully crossed over to heaven, a destination for which he had prepared for since 1976.

Steve was widely known for his amazing work ethic which would not let him stay idle when a job needed finishing or someone needed help. Many called him their friend, several called him their Pastor, but the luckiest called him Dad. Steve was a graduate of Needmore High School with the class of 1974. Three years later, he married Sheryl Tanksley on July 22, 1977. This union of hearts helped aid them in their ministry that started that same year.

Steve and his wife have been pastoring Sharky Trinity Pentecostal Church for the past 15 years. He retired from Carlisle Brake & Friction in the shipping department.

Steve was an excellent husband, father, and pastor. He was passionate about serving God, preaching the gospel, and caring for his family. He was also a master carpenter working in both commercial and residential construction. He owned Hawkins Custom Homes for many years where he and his partner, Neil Riley, built many houses in the Bedford area including the one he called home.

Survivors include his wife, Sheryl, of Bedford; their three boys, Tyson (Chalise), Jonathan (Amanda), and Jordan (Emily); a brother, Scott Hawkins; six grandchildren, Ziva, Delyn, Brayten, Maverick, Abbi, and Rileigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey and James “Lloyd” Hawkins and a sister, Donna Gayle.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 27th at Hilltop Pentecostal Church in Avoca with Rev. Bill Johnson and Bro. Joe Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the church.

Marilyn Kay (Nikirk) Rathsman

Marilyn Kay (Nikirk) Rathsman, 81, formerly of Columbus passed away Friday November 19, 2021 at Greenwood Village South in Greenwood.

Marilyn was born in Oolitic, Indiana July 28, 1940 the daughter of Isaac M. and Ida Ethel New Nikirk. She married Everett L. Rathsman, Jr. March 11, 1967 in Bedford, he preceded her in death May 25, 2018.

She attended Indiana University and retired as a Probate Para Legal from the Law Office of Richard Enyon. She attended First Lutheran Church of Columbus and was a member of Bible Study Fellowship. She enjoyed reading, cooking and loved to work.

She is survived by her daughter, Tanya (Phillip) Pongracz of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Abigail (Wyatt) Bowles of Altus, Oklahoma and Adam Pongracz of Indianapolis; sisters, Elsie Webb of Oolitic and Betty (Kenny) Speer of Oolitic; brother, Mike (Kim) Nikirk of Kodak, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Cara Jeffries of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband; brothers, Warren, Walter, Wendell and Jerry Nikirk.

A funeral service will be conducted at First Lutheran Church Tuesday a 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Isbell officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to service time Tuesday at the Church. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Charles Edward “Jack” Rife

Charles Edward “Jack” Rife, 92, of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at IU Health Saxony Hospital in Fishers.

He was born on October 9, 1929 in Lawrence County, the son of Cecil and Della (Eads) Rife.

Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952 when he was honorably discharged. During his service, Jack learned the electronics trade while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. This skill led him to a 25-year career as an Electronics Technician with Crane Naval Weapon Support Center.

Jack enjoyed family gatherings with his large, close-knit family. Jack cherished his time traveling with his wife, Mary, to the New England area during the fall season to see the leaves change color. He was a handyman by nature and was always doing home improvement projects.

In addition to his career at Crane, Jack owned Charlie’s Electrical Service, in which he wired many newly built homes. In his spare time, Jack enjoyed watching and reading westerns. Jack, along with Mary, had a special love for their dog, Rocky. His great care for his great grandchildren was notable, and he was fortunate to be able to be so involved in their lives. He loved cooking and canning with Mary; they made jellies and jams from raspberries and blackberries from their garden. He loved being outside; his morel mushroom and ginseng hunting skills were legendary. His gardening skills were much admired, and he was known as “Gardener Jack.”

Jack is survived by his daughter, Tina Rife-Bastin (Tom Bastin); grandchildren, Kate Bastin (Chris Saligoe) and Kelli Bastin (Aaron Medenwald); great grandchildren, Izzy, Max, and Van; and siblings, Sue Martin, Carol Cain, Lois Hillenburg, and Brenda Eads.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 67 years, Mary K. Rife; and siblings, Betty Petty, Sonny Rife, Shelia Hogan, and Boyd Rife.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, with Rev. Matt Hinshaw officiating. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

David Stigall

Sept. 16, 1940 — Nov. 11, 2021

David Stigall, 81, of Bedford, Indiana passed away on Thursday afternoon November 11, 2021, after a valiant battle with pneumonia.

David was born to Theodore and Maxine Stigall of Oolitic, on September 16, 1940. He grew up in the family business making ice cream for the restaurant, which they opened in Oolitic next door to the family home.

After his college years, and following two years in the US Army, where he served in Vietnam, he returned to Indiana where he managed Ted’s Restaurant in Prospect, Indiana. He met Beth Larson and they married on June 16, 1969, after which they moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Jeremy David Stigall was born on June 26, 1973, which was his grandfather Ted’s birthday. Heather Renee Stigall arrived on May 17, 1977, making the family complete.

David made a comfortable living for his family selling real estate in Florida and they enjoyed the warm sunshine and their beautiful home surrounded by orange trees, mango trees, palm trees and various tropical plants including hibiscus, which bloomed nearly all year.

Sadly, Theodore passed away in October of 1977, and David moved his family to Oolitic and took over management of the Golden Gables restaurant. After a search for just the right spot, David found his long-time dream of a plot of land surrounded by trees, complete with a creek and a pond, a barn that was 100 years old and the family settled there in August of 1978.

He would spend hours every week mowing 7 acres and tending to the 50 acres of hayfields and pastures. The family adapted to farm life with relish and they all helped to raise chickens, dogs, Holstein and an occasional brown Jersey cows and their Appaloosa, Cricket, who was the largest pet. She had a good sense of humor and liked to be in the midst of activities. Daisy and Muffin, Australian Shepherds, managed the livestock and July, the tuxedo cat, arrived one day and adopted the family, fitting right into the menagerie. Spooky came along a few years later and the two cats managed pest control.

A vegetable garden provided sustenance and good exercise for a few years and then David began decades of landscaping, planting and tending to many shrubs and small trees, adding to the black walnut trees, the tulip poplars, the oak and ash trees, the mulberry tree and countless others that circled the house and stretched across the acreage. Jeremy became his “regular woodsman” and grew up helping his dad tend the farm. Heather was often found driving the pick-up to gather fallen branches or weed-eating or lending a hand with a paintbrush. Their childhood was filled with learning moments as David taught them both the value of owning your own land and appreciating the privilege of watching Nature’s miracles.

In 1986, Carol Stigall took over management of the Golden Gables restaurant and David and his brother, Kim, formed a partnership and opened Ball Park Heroes on ‘J’ Street, in downtown Bedford. The shop was closed in the early 2000’s as David’s health declined. He would be faced with three major cancers and would bravely soldier on through those medical odysseys, always replying to the doctor’s question of what he hoped to be the outcome of treatment with “I want to live forever”. To the great sadness of his lived ones, he was unable to recover from pneumonia one more time.

David leaves to mourn him, his wife, Beth, his son, Jeremy and his wife, Heather and their teen age daughter, Heather Haley. His daughter, Heather Renee and her nine-year old, Alexandra Celeste are also grieving the loss of Poppy. The girls brought him endless joy. David is also survived by his brother, Kim and his wife, Carol, and their sons, Chad and Darren and their wives and children.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford, Indiana and David was interred in a beautiful spot at Green Hill Cemetery where his loved ones can stop by to visit him often.

Alma A. (Holmes) Jones

Alma A. (Holmes) Jones, 90, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Westview Nursing and Rehab.

Born September 7, 1931, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Harley and Jenny (Robertson) Holmes. She married Samuel E. “Gene” Jones on September 18, 2008, and he survives.

She retired as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. She grew up in the Avoca Baptist Church and was member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church. She loved her family, her church, and music.

Survivors include her husband, Gene, of Bedford; a daughter, Jill VanTine, of Avoca; daughters-in-law, Patty Bex and her husband Bob, of Bedford and Martha Turner, of Bloomington; step-children, Mike Jones and wife, Nancy, of Troy, MI, Kimberly Romanchik and husband, Jim, of Independence, OH; grandchildren, Angela Chase, Jaden Borden, Kristin Lintz, Roz Turner, Graham Jones, Aaron Jones, Kelsey Jones, Andrew Romanchik, Emma Franchino; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Ashley Chase, Lauren Hillenburg, Garrett Turner, Henry Jones, Braden Smith and Blaine Lintz; great-great grandchildren, Mason Hillenburg and Hadlei Smith; step-great-great grandchildren, Corrie Flynn and B.J. Lintz; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Fred Turner and their children, Tim and Steve Turner; her second husband, Art Ray; her third husband, Cletus Waggoner; grandsons, Matthew S. Turner, Ryan Ward, Jacob and Jared Borden; two sisters, Imogene Kursner and Little Donna; a brother, Clayton Holmes.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 22nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor David Ferry officiating, who will have a special reading written by her Pastor, Kenneth Walden. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Holly Ann (Skeen) Chaney, 40, of Williams, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

Born January 26, 1981, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harry Thomas and Jan Elaine (Cornett) Skeen. She married Dwight E. Chaney on June 6, 2007, and he survives.

She was a homemaker and great wife and mother. She attended the Williams First Baptist Church. She loved to sing and had a wonderful sense of humor, making people laugh and smile.

Survivors include her husband, Dwight, of Williams; a son, Eugene Thomas Chaney; her father, Harry Thomas Skeen and step-mother, Rhea, of Bedford; a sister, Heather Benbow and husband, Daniel; a brother, Brett Skeen, all of Williams; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jan; grandparents, Fred and Nellie Cornett, Harry and Doris Skeen.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Perry East officiating. She was born April 1, 1960 in Bedford, IN, the daughter of Robert and Virginia (Hargesheimer) Dillard.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Robertson of Orleans; one son, Derrick Robertson (Sara) of Sellersburg, IN; one grandson, Raylan Robertson of Sellersburg, IN; three sisters, Charlotta Burton, Carlotta Gray and Tammy Pruett; one brother Gray Dillard; mother-in-law, Mildred Robertson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

He was born on July 11, 1960 in Louisville, Kentucky to Werner Egner and Evelyn (Nixdorf) Egner.

He was owner of his own wood working business. He was a veteran of both the US Army and United States Marines.

Surviving is his son, Kurt Egner of Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Nancy VanNatta Ruch Lakin died November 16,2021 at her home.

She was born September 7,1945 at Dunn Memorial Hospital to Charles Lester and Beulah Frances McIntire Ruch. She was married to Samuel Lawson Lakin in 1963, and they were divorced in 1968. They had two children Margaret Michelle Lakin Taylor of Bedford, and Charles Paul Lakin of Hanover Michigan.

Survivors include her son Charles ( Lana) Lakin of Michigan; Grandchildren, Lakin, Jacob, and Ella Taylor all of Bedford; Sister-In-Law, Trudy Ruch of Omaha Nebraska; children and grandchildren, Regan Ruch, Rebecca (Jerry) Baker [Ben and Max] all of Omaha, Liz (Jason) Calhoun [Ryan, Jacob, and Jeannie] all of Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her father in 1983, her mother in 1994, her brother in law in 2004, her sister in 2009 Marge and Ray Orman. Her aunt Margret McIntire Rimstidt in 2000. Her great niece Stacey(Skye) Glotzbach and their sons Derek Finny and Chayce Christopher Glotzbach in 2013. Her daughter Margaret Michelle Lakin Taylor in 2017. Her brother Chuck Ruch in 2018.

She retired from NSWC Crane in 1999 as a Contract Specialist after 24 years. She was a member of National Contract Management Association, Women in Networking, and Federally Employed Women during her career at Crane. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bedford and was an active member in United Methodist Women and Dorcas Circle. She graduated from Shawswick High School in 1963 and attended Purdue and Indiana Universities. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse graduating from IVTC in 1976.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 20,2021 at the First United Methodist Church 1409 K St Bedford IN from 12 – 3 pm.

Born January 23, 1940, in Heltonville, IN he was the son of Roy Earl and Lola Eileen (Axsom) Norman. He married Phyllis Winona Lutes on April 30, 1961, and she survives.

He retired from Indiana Limestone, though his work career included Cummins, Peabody Coal, North American Coal, Contec and Cosner Ice. He was also the owner/operator of L & N Transport and Norman’s Garage.

His first love has always been serving God. He could always be found with his hands on a deck of cards or in an engine. He served in the Navy from 1957-1960 as an aircraft mechanic. He and his wife were missionaries in the country of Haiti for five years. He has always been actively involved in church. He was a member of the Fairview Community Church for 15 years and most recently attended services at Bedford Free Methodist Church. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years and served as an Elder and Board Member.

He was happily married to the love of his life for over 60 years. He loved his family well!

He will be greatly missed by his wife, two daughters, Cheryl (Greg) Mitchell, of Bedford, and Dena (Ralph) Kemmet, of Beulah, ND; one son, Anthony (Tony) and his wife, Shari Norman, of Orleans; one brother, Fred (Sarah Lou) Norman, of Heltonville; grandchildren include Brandon Bauer, Jennifer Allen, Andrew Thielman, Brittany Riebsomer, Amber Kelley, Kaylee Huffman, Garrett Holland, Janelle Norman, Meagan Anderson, Courtney Sandness, Riley Holland, and Olivia Holland; twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Troy Norman; a great-great-granddaughter, and his parents.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 22, 2021, at the Bedford Free Methodist Church, 630 ‘R’ Street with Pastor Adam Strauser and pastor Lindy Hopkins officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Arrangements conducted by Day & Carter Mortuary.

Scott Allen Weldon age 57 of Bedford passed away on Saturday November 13, 2021 at his residence.

He was born on June 5, 1964 in Malvern, Arkansas to Robert Charles Meeks and Lynda Sue (Lackey) Meeks Shannon.

Scott was a Heating and Air technician, he attended Grace Full Gospel Church, he loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandkids. He was baptized in the Christian faith.

Survivors include his daughters, Chelsee New of Bedford and Jessica Hackney of Bedford, his mother, Lynda Sue Shannon of Bedford, his father and step-mother, Robert C. and Violet Meeks of Malvern, Arkansas, six grandchildren, Arianna Lovell, Jayston Lovell, Liam Bowles, Madilynn New, Ezekiel New and Jaycie Hackney, two brothers, Garry Weldon of Bedford and Steve Weldon of Bedford, his friend and confidant, Jan Kerner of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tyler Meeks, his grandparents, John and Hilda Lackey, and uncle, Donald Lackey

Henry Clouse, Jr.

Henry Clouse, Jr., 92, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington.

Born August 27, 1929, in Mitchell, he was the son of Henry Sr. and Nora B. (Wood) Clouse. He married Adrienne Wilson July 26, 1951, and she preceded him in death November 3, 2020.

Henry retired from General Motors with 42 years of service and was a member of UAW Local No. 440. He graduated in 1949 from Mitchell High School and was the recipient of the Oral Dalton Award. Henry enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golfing, and previously loved playing sports. He was a member of the First Church of God.

Henry was a U. S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his children, Stephen Lee (Marsha) Clouse of Phoenix, Arizona, Timothy Lane (Keetah) Clouse of Mitchell, Chrislyn Ann Clouse of Bloomington; grandchildren, Cole Clouse of South Korea, Matt (Maria) McNair of Missouri; great-granddaughters, Samantha McNair and Katelyn McNair.

His parents; wife; and siblings, Thelma Gerkin, Jesse Clouse, Ruth Clouse, Maxine Clouse, Elsie Mesarosh, Lowell Clouse, Edwinna Jones, Robert Clouse, and twins, Mildred Bauerle and Mearle McCoy; and half-brother, Paul Wood, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Dr. Robert C. Courson, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Mae Martin age 86 of Bedford passed away on Tuesday November 16, 2021 at 2:15 Am at IU health in Bedford.

She was born on January 1, 1935 in Ritner, Kentucky to Oliver Clark and Zina (Morrow) Clark. Mae married Noble Gene Martin on July 16, 1954 and he survives.

Mae was a retired machine operator at Westinghouse/ABB in Bloomington for 29 years. She was a faithful member of the Grace Baptist Church in Springville for 48 years. She was a Godly woman who loved her family and husband. They played beautiful music together. She loved to sing gospel music, quilting, cooking and spoiling her grandkids.

Survivors include her husband, Noble Gene Martin; children, Mildred (Bob) Cox, Linda Martin, Annette (Bruce) Sturgeon, and Rex (Lou Ann) Martin; sister, Delta Turner; 19 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, one daughter, Charlene Silvers.

Funeral services will be on Saturday November 20, 2021 at 11:00 Am at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with Brother Bob Phillips, officiating. Burial will follow in Springville West Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday November 19, 2021 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Cresthaven Funeral Home.

Born December 27, 1958, in Berwyn, IL, she was the daughter of George Pace and Gail Lee (Collins) Pace. She married Michael Olan Miller on December 28, 1978. She retired as a cashier for Kroger.

Judith Marie Brewer, 74, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away on November 10, 2021.

Judy was born October 17, 1947 to the late Russel and Nancy Tow in Mitchell, Indiana.

Judy worked for many years as a hairdresser and was a devoted mother and grandmother. More recently, she enjoyed spending her time playing card games with the ladies and gathering with friends and family.

Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Brewer and sister, Martha Williams.

She is survived by her sister, Caroline Earl and brother, Robert Michael Tow, as well as, her children Jerrie Chiu, Jay Brewer, and Jennifer Brewer. Judy also had several grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was born August 11, 1944 in Orange County, Indiana, the daughter of William and Mary (Padgett) Sermersheim.

She worked in the Orleans School System as a teacher’s aide for several years. She graduated from Orleans High School, class of 1961.

She married Mike Butler on August 15, 1969 and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Bedford; two sons, Scott (Sandy) Butler of Orleans and Roger (Anna) Butler of Scottsburg; one sister, Helen (Carroll) Terry of Huron; seven grandchildren, Joshua Butler, Ryan Butler, Chase Butler, Bryan Moldrem, Jason Reynolds, Josh McVicker and Adrianna Rhodes; four great grandchildren, Isabelle, Hayden, Jackson and Taylor; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Howard Sermersheim and one sister Donna Simmons.

Born September 16, 1934, in Bloomington, he was the son of Alvy Earl and Avis (Blackwell) Prince. He married Patricia A. LuAllen on April 11, 1953, and she survives.

He retired from RCA after thirty-five years and was a farmer. He was an amazing wood craftsman and avid reader.Cloyd was a loving Husband, Daddy, and Poppy. He loved ALL his girls and his great grandson.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Debra (David) Melvin, Penny Prince, and Angela Prince (Richard Blackerby); two granddaughters, Hillary (Mark) Hedge and Heather (Ivan) Noel; two great granddaughters, Jaidyn and Baileigh; a great grandson, Dominick; a brother, Carl Prince.

Darrel Edward Salmon, 40, passed away November 12, 2021. He was born on October 24, 1981, in Washington, IN to Roy and Debra (Webster) Salmon.

Darrel was of Christian faith and graduated from Shoals High School in 2000 and Wyoming Technical Institute in 2001. He will be remembered for his quick wit, amazing sense of humor and generous spirit. He was a talented singer, song writer and musician. He was also a very creative wood worker. Above all, he cherished the moments with his son Cole, who he affectionately called Pup, the most. He was his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Robert and Fern Salmon and maternal grandmother Betty Workman.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his parents, Roy and Debra Salmon of Shoals, a son, Cole Salmon of Lutz, FL, sisters Jonie (Jason) Roach of Shoals and Janelle (Scott) Howard of Bedford, Nephews Aiden and Alex Smith and Niece Kaylee Howard, grandpa Robert Webster-Odon. Born January 8, 1937, she was the daughter of Ailais and Pearl Craig. She married Robert Wayne Johnson and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2012.

Geraldine was retired from G.E. in Bloomington after 20 years of employment and had also worked and M. Fine and Sons in Bedford. She attended Fayetteville High School and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving Geraldine is her daughter, Sherry Spires; two grandson’s, Robert (Cindy) Summitt and Cody (Megan) Spires; two great-grandchildren, Jaylyn and Kaidyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; two sisters, Pauline and Kathleen; three brothers, Lester, Ailais Jr., and John.

Domarie was a certified nursing assistant. She attended the Bride of Christ Fellowship and greatly loved her grandchildren.

Mary Deckard, 89, of Springville, died on Friday, November 12, 2021, at her residence.

Born July 17, 1932, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Robert and Dessie (Covey) McKee. She married Charles Melvin Cobb and he preceded her in death. Mary then married Chauncey Deckard, and he also preceded her in death.

She retired as in inspector for Western Electric and worked as a CNA for Older Americans Healthcare. She was a graduate of Smithville High School and attended Dive Christian Church for many years. Mary enjoyed watching IU football and basketball, as well as watching the Indianapolis Colts. She loved shopping at St. Vincent de Paul.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicky A. Bryant and her husband, Mark, Debbie Richardson and her husband Keith; grandchildren, Cheryl Underwood and husband Caleb, Shawn Bryant and wife Amy, Steven Bryant and wife Glory, Bill Kerr and wife Kelly, Sue Love and husband Eric, Mary Dee Hudson and husband Andy, Charity New, Jessica Ratts and husband Travis; nineteen great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a brother, Delmar Eugene McKee.

Gary Lee Bowman

Gary Lee Bowman, 75, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, at his residence.

Gary was born April 19, 1946, in Bedford, to Miles and Maxine (Hall) Bowman. He first married Kathryn Carmichael on July 25, 1970. She was killed in a tragic car/house accident on Dec. 27, 1982. He married Rita (Hopkins) Watts on July 31, 1987, and she survives.

Gary attended Williams School until it closed and graduated from Bedford High School. Gary retired from Central Foundry after 30 years. He was a co-op student, working with GM and GMI at Flint, Michigan, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering. He proudly served six years with the Indiana National Guard, Camp Atterbury Unit. He was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church where he was a deacon for several years. He loved our Lord, his family, church and friends. Golf, fishing and travel kept him active in retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Rita; son, Charles Bowman of Conyers, Georgia; daughters, Tina (Dave Swaby) Howard of Springville, Angie (Tony) Hobbs of Bedford and Cindy Bowman of Bloomington; grandchildren, Chris Howard, Ashley (Kenny) Niflis, Jacob (Madison Jean) Hobbs, Courtney Bowman, L. Charles Bowman and Katherine Brown; great grandson, Colton Ridge; and brother, David of Ft. Myers, Florida.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Kathy.

Gary chose cremation with a memorial held to honor his life at Hillcrest Christian Church at 12:30 p.m., Monday, November 15, 2021, with Pastor Mark Fugate and Pastor Lindy Hopkins officiating. Wendell Harold Dick, 80, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born July 17, 1941, in Monticello Kentucky, he was the son of Roy E. and Ottie J. (Tucker) Dick. He married Onie Lee Elkin August 26, 1995, and she preceded him in death in May, 2010.

Wendell retired from Cobb Chicken Farms. He was an avid reader of the Bible and was a member of East Somerset Baptist Church. Wendell loved to play golf, and was a graduate of Wayne County High School. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his daughters, Wendi M. (Chris) Morrow of Mitchell, Kimberly D. Doris V. Wykoff, 97, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021.

Born September 15, 1924, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Edward Ross and Vina (Clendenon) Owen. She married Dudley Wykoff, Jr. on May 22, 1948, and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2015.

She was an office worker at Wykoff Brothers Paint Store and a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Bennett, of Bedford and children, Amber Kay and husband, Johnny, Aaron Collier and wife, Kirsten, J. Lynn Lanier and husband, John; a son, Dudley Wykoff, III and wife, Sandy, of Mitchell, and their children, Dee Wykoff and wife, Robin, Trent Wykoff and wife, Sara, Jessica Wykoff, thirteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, William Owen.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, on Monday, November 15th at the First Christian Church with Tim Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 14th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Monday, November 15th at the church.

Barbara Gibson Elliott Scull, 95, of Carmel, IN passed away Friday, November 5, 2021. She was born May 31, 1926 in the Old Home Hospital, Muncie, IN to W. Raymond and Blanche A. Merchant Gibson.

Barbara grew up on a farm in Delaware County, IN and was a graduate of Eaton High School. As both of her parents were very involved in music, she was expected to pursue a career in music as well. For more than 75 years, Barbara was a soloist, directed and sang in church choirs and remembered her first vocal solo was “Away in a Manger” in 1932. She was a great “church pew” sleeper while her parents sang in church events.

Following her high school graduation Barbara obtained both her Bachelor of Arts and master’s in music from Ball State University, Muncie, IN.

Barbara utilized her musical gifts abilities as she taught music for 3 years at Union City, OH Eastside School and 4 years at Liberty School in Palestine, OH. In 1963, the family moved to Bedford, IN where Barbara taught 15 years at Shawswick High School, 2 years at Rushville High School, as well as served as substitute teacher for 3 years in the Indianapolis School system.

Barbara returned to teach in the Bedford School system in 1983, retired in 1989; however, taught private voice and piano lessons for an additional 12 years, before finally retiring in 2001. Barbara directed the musicals Bye Bye Birdie and Calamity Jane. She entered students in musical solo and ensemble contests in IN and OH. She trained girls quartets and boys quartets. The “Two & Toos” quartet traveled all over southern IN.

Some of Barbara’s memberships included Argonauts in Bloomington, IN, the IRTA, NLTA and life member of NEA. In addition to singing, Barbara enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, and playing golf.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph M. Elliott and second husband, Wilfred E. Scull; stepmother, Hazel Lambert Gibson; and stepsister, Shirley Lambert Conner.

Survivors include her son, Lawrence Joseph Elliott of Champaign, IL; daughters, Beatrice Kay Elliott Conklin of Muncie, IN and Cynthia Ann Elliott Kenworthy of Bedford, IN; 6 grandchildren, Jeff Conklin, Todd (Kim) Conklin, Kelley (Larry) Kemper, Teresa (Mike) Holler, Robin (Brooke) Elliott and Maegan Kiendzior; 11 great-grandchildren, Anna, Nash, Stanford, Kinnon (Tabbie), Kyler, Abby, Anna, Katie, Aiden, Kallyn, and Jackson; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Deklin and Daxin.

Family and friends will gather at 10 am Friday, November 12, 2021 in Carmel United Methodist Church, 621 S Rangeline Road, Carmel, IN where the Funeral Service will begin at 12 noon.

A Committal Service will take place in Eaton Union Cemetery, 16301 N. State Road 3 North, Eaton, IN 47338.

Born March 6, 1992, in Hinesville, Georgia on the Ft. Stewart Army Base, he was the son of Ernie and Debbie Taylor and Lea (Meadows) and Duke Bugh.

He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and was ecstatic that they won the World Series. He loved motorcycles, motocross racing and fishing. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews

Ralph H. Sharpe, 79, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at his residence. Born October 1, 1942 in Clark County, Indiana, he was the son of Ralph and Mary Webb Sharpe.

Ralph first retired from Otis Elevator in Bloomington and then went to work at Visteon (Ford) in Bedford as an assembler, from where he retired again. He was a member of the Oolitic VFW, the National Rifle Association, and previously attended the Faith Mission Church.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Ralph H. Sharpe are his children, Lester Cleveland “Cleve” Sharpe and his wife Ayshea of Oolitic, and Mary Arminda “Mindy” Bayes and her husband William of Jasper; two sisters, Janna Adams of Bedford and Wanda Spinks of Mitchell; one brother, Nathan Mark Sharpe, Sr. of Bedford; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Clifford Bard “Jack” Love, Jr.

Clifford Bard “Jack” Love, Jr., 82, of Gentry Park in Bloomington, formally of Bedford, died Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington, Indiana.

Cliff, “Jackie”, to his dear mother, was born on November 1, 1938 to Clifford Bard Sr., and Pauline (Chenault) Love in Lawrence County, Indiana. An only child, Jackie was born early, weighing only 3 ¼ pounds. He used to joke that he spent the first few weeks of his life sleeping in a dresser drawer due to his small size.

Jack graduated from Shawswick High School in May 1957.

At the age of 21, Jack left home and spent two years studying to be an electrician. At 23, he again left home to serve in the Army, spending time in Hawaii and Thailand. Upon discharge from the military, Jack returned to Indiana and began a more than thirty year career as a Switchman for Indiana Bell/AT&T.

Clifford “Jack” Love was truly a gentleman. He had a gentle spirit and never failed to act with kindness and love. He enjoyed sharing stories and never knew a stranger. He had many interests that he loved to share with people. These included trains, photography, kites, traveling, gadgets, chess, movies, and Christmas.

Grandpa Cliff especially loved to brag about his grandchildren and all their accomplishments. He took great pride in being an “IU Grandpa”. Grandpa Cliff enjoyed taking his grandchildren on day trips to Spring Mill State Park and vacations to Hilton Head Island. He never failed to forget his camera, capturing countless photos of his grandchildren. Grandpa Cliff made every holiday magical, especially Christmas, decorating every inch of the house, complete with three Christmas trees, and two trains. He loved to treat his grandchildren to a trip to Starbucks every time he and grandma picked them up from school. A devoted Grandpa, there was rarely a dance recital, play, variety show, ball game, school program, or pageant he was not present with his camera in tow.

Cliff “Jack” is survived by his wife, Violet Shimer Love, whom he married on June 22, 1997. During their almost 24 years together, he was a doting husband, often spending months planning the perfect gift for her birthday or special occasion.

Also surviving are his stepson, Michael A. Shimer (Annabell) of San Francisco, CA, stepdaughter, Megan Shimer Axsom (John Collier) of Bloomington, IN and grandchildren: Emily, Andrew, Elizabeth, Michael, and Elias.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Donica Love on March 4, 1995, his father on May 7, 1976, and mother on April 24, 1997.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 from 2pm-4pm at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes so all who knew and loved Clifford “Jack” Love can celebrate him and share their memories.

Claude Ernest Mikels, 88, of Bedford, passed away at 6:46 am on Monday, November 8, 2021, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.

Born August 8, 1933, in Jackson Co., he was the son of Stacey and Tenia Alice (Hunicutt) Mikels. He married Thelma L. Kirkman on September 16, 1967, in Lawrenceville, IL and she preceded him in death. He married Violet Carol (Sears) Clark on October 21, 2006, and she survives.

Claude worked on the highway and for Sexton-Wilbert Corp. and always enjoyed his work. He enjoyed getting together with family, playing music, and singing with his sister, Minnie, as part of the Hobbieville Quartet. He had a good sense of humor and loved joking with people wherever he went.

Claude was one of a very large family of children, most of whom have passed. Those who preceded him in death include brothers, Joseph H., Melvin S., Clarence A., and Clyde E. Mikels; sisters, Alice M. Hilderbrand, Lottie M. Hays, Clara M. Hall, Margaret J. Kent, and Bonnie R. Mikels; step-children, Eugene and Laverne Meadows, Judy Sullivan, and Ginny Arthur.

He is survived by one sister, Minnie Hillenburg Brown, of Bloomington; her children, Becky and husband, Jerry Pate, and Steve Hillenburg and wife, Leatha; several other nieces and nephews; step-son, Jerry Clark, of Camby, IN; step-daughter, Kim Maners, of Bedford; step-son, Jerry Meadows.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 12th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bucky Charles and Mike Eads officiating. Bonnie Marie Bridges, 91, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

Born April 11, 1930, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Charles and Katie (Pace) Allen, the seventh of eight children. She attended Dive School and graduated from Oolitic High School with the class of 1948. She married Winferd W. “Bud” Bridges, Jr. on June 29, 1947, and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1991.

She retired from Central Foundry (now GM Powertrain). She was a member of the Dive Christian Church for over 65 years and was active for many years in various Ladies Aide activities, as a Nursery volunteer, and a faithful Sunday School member. She was a loving caregiver to her family, including her extended family.

She was the loving mother of Karen Elaine Stephenson, of Oolitic and Nickii Jeanne (Jim) Henderson, and Joseph Wayne Bridges, all of Bedford; loving “granny” of Tomi (Dave) Lessaris, of Greenwood, IN, Michelle (Ronald) Brewer, Charity Parker, and Craig Henderson all of Bedford, Samuel Caswell, II, of Oolitic, IN, Joe Wayne Pendley, of French Lick, IN, Amy (Kip) Allen, of Orleans, IN, Joshua Bridges, of Heltonville, IN and Cory Henderson (deceased); sixteen great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. The last of her siblings, she is also survived by a brother-in-law, Don Bridges; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Burgess, Sherry (Ronnie) Peck, of Bedford, and Kathy Bridges, of Norman, IN and many cherished nieces and nephews from four generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Calvin Craig, her husband, siblings, John Edward Allen (in infancy), Juanita Feltner, Louise Shaver, Charles Allen, Betty Griffin, Marjorie Braden, and Colleen Allen; siblings-in-law, Marie Flynn, Ray Bridges, and Ralph Bridges; grandsons, Cory Henderson and Michael K. Parker, II; great-grandson, Dakota Burnette; several nieces and nephews.

Vickie C. Fisher age 70 of Mitchell passed away peacefully with her family by her side on November 5, 2021 at the IU Hospice House in Bloomington.

She was born on September 14, 1951 in Lawrence County to Clarence Smith and Margaret Jean (Blackburn) Smith.

Vickie was retired from Visteon in Bedford.

Survivors include her daughter, Bridget J. Kennetha Jo (Hardman) Miller passed away on Monday November 8th at 3:30 AM at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born on January 16, 1943 in Mitchell, Kennetha was the daughter of Kenneth Hardman and Irene (Parsley) Hardman-Dustin . She married her high school sweetheart William “Bill” Miller on April 20, 1962 and he survives.

Other survivors include her three children Petrina Foddrill (Frank Walker) of Mitchell, Bill Miller (Bronwyn) of Clifton Springs, NY and Jeff Miller (Sally) of Mitchell. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, and one great grandson; three sisters Joy (John) Storey of Gas City, Jean Freels of Evansville, LeeEtta Dustin of Kearney, AZ; one brother Dirus (Kathy) Dustin of Bedford, one brother-in-law Bill Steininger of Colorado Springs, 1 sister-in-law Loraine Chastain and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Judy Steininger, a grandson Andrew Foddrill, five brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Kennetha graduated from Bedford High School, class of 1961. Before retiring, she worked at IU Health Bedford (formerly the Bedford Medical Center) for over 30 years in many different positions and later as a volunteer.

She was a Christ follower and member of Tulip Street Christian Church in Mitchell.

Funeral services will be on Saturday November 13, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with Brother Darrin Chastain, officiating, entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Born August 22, 1942, in Monroe Co., he was the son of Otis and Frances (Hodges) Nicholson. He was a delivery driver for Roots RV and volunteer for the Red Cross. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, motorcycle racing, and watching the Colts, Pacers, and Yankee ballgames.

Survivors include two daughters, Kim Diane Wray and husband, Ed, and Jill Alden and husband Vance, all of Bedford; two sons, Rick Nicholson and wife, Missy, and Mike Nicholson and wife, LuAnn, all of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Jamie and Denton Wray, Chris, Brandon, Kyla, Michael and Ashton Nicholson, Logan and Tanner Cazee; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Nicholson, of FL; two sisters, Frances Barrett and Betty Jo East, both of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.

Garnett Mundy, 105, formerly of Huron, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Garden Villa Nursing Home.

Born April 3, 1916, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Frank and Rachel (McCart) Mundy. She married Harris R. Mundy June 2, 1934, and he preceded her in death March 14, 1988.

Garnett retired from M. Fine & Son. She was a member of Pleasant View Church of Christ and the Huron WTK Club. Garnett was an excellent quilter and loved reading.

Surviving are her daughter, Janice L. (Don) White of Bedford; grandchildren, Mike Miller, Barry White, Terry White, and Lisa Holmes; ten great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth Elizabeth Slaughter, 92, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021, at her home.

Born September 23, 1929, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of H. LaVern and Dorothy Marie (Wires) Reynolds. She married William C. “Bill” Sanders February 16, 1948, and he preceded her in death August 17, 1948. On September 23, 1949, she married James Henry Slaughter and he preceded her in death January 3, 1994.

Ruth had been employed at RCA, Keane’s Insurance, and retired from the fabric department at Ben Franklin. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, mowing the lawn, and her cat, Miss Kitty. Later in life, puzzles, word searches, and watching game shows became her hobby. Ruth was a very loving, kind, and generous mother, whom we lost and God gained an angel. She was the oldest member of Fishing Creek Chapel.

Surviving are her daughters, Sharon (David) Williams of Mitchell, Martha (Michael) Young of Unionville, Cheryl A. (Gary) White of Mitchell; grandchildren, Shelley P. Liz retired from J. C. Penney Company. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1952, was baptized in 1958 at Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsburg, Kansas, and is a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Bedford. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and always made friends wherever she was.

Surviving are her husband, Wallace Rader of Mitchell; children, Mark (Louann) Rader of Mitchell, Janet (Greg) Phillips of Orleans; grandchildren, Sarah (Derek) Rollins, Kyle (Charlsie) Rader, Trevor (Samantha) Phillips, Chad (fianceé, Brittany) Phillips, and Jarrett Phillips; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Hellen Murphy of Girard, Kansas, Richard Foster of Pittsburg, Kansas.

Her parents, five brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.

Nancy Lee Jaggers, 70, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021, at her residence.

Born February 3, 1951, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Carl Brooks and Helen (Holtsinger) Spurrier. She married Stephen D. Jaggers July 12, 1989, and he preceded her in death September 19, 2005.

Nancy retired from Cook Medical and had previously been employed many years at the Waffle House in Indianapolis.

Surviving are her children, Brian K. Stevens of New Albany, Dawn M. Blythe of Largo, Florida; grandchildren, Natasha L. Stevens, Nikkols D. Stevens, Zachary Wolcott, Klay Kleet, and Dustin Fox; brothers, Larry Brooks, Sr., Terry Brooks.

Her parents and husband preceded her in death.

Cremation was chosen with no service.

Ted E. French

Ted E. French, 76, of Orleans, passed away at 11:15 am on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born November 11, 1944, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Harry and Volnie (Morris) French. He married Veronica Lynn Branam on April 10, 1965, and she survives.

He retired as a job setter at Allison Transmission. He was the Marshall of the Lost River Renegades who participated in the French Lick Train Robbery reenactments. Ted was an ordained minister and officiated his granddaughter’s wedding in 2018. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and riding horses. But spending time with his family was by far his favorite pastime.

Survivors include his wife, Veronica, of Orleans; two daughters, Lagena DeRossett and husband, David, of Martinsville and Kimberly Hamlin, of Orleans; four grandchildren, Adam DeRossett, and wife, Nicole, of Martinsville, Angie “My Pretty Little Girl” Branum and husband, Josh, of Bedford, Katherine “Squeaker” Hamlin, of Laramie, WY, and Reed Hamlin, of Orleans; four great-grandchildren, Branson “Button”, Harper, Wren, and Ava; sisters, Barbara Harris, of Glasgow, KY, and Carol Jacobs, of Orleans; a brother, Bill French, of Carmel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Rondal French, a sister, Frieda Hammons.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 9th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Tim Adams officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 pm in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Robert W. “Bob” Plew

Robert W. “Bob” Plew, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Major Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.

Born August 20, 1929 in Jasonville, Indiana, he was the son of William L. Plew (who was a minister of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ) and Cora (Underwood) Plew. He married Jean (Dodd) Plew and she preceded him on August 13, 1973. He also married Wanda (Hunt) Plew and she preceded him on December 2, 2013.

Survivors include son- David R. Plew (wife Susan) of Lake Santee; stepson-Ned E. Dickerson (wife Brenda) of Rossville; step daughters- Beth Pearson of Indianapolis, Millissa Mantz (husband Chris) of Tipton; daughter In law Julie Odenbrett, Diana Plew Weaver and grandchildren- Robert Dodd Plew, Daniel Andrew Plew, Adam Hamilton Plew; great grand children-Carter Plew, Rhys Plew, Atticus Plew; several step grand children and several step great grand children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouses, sons Leland Dodd Plew, Daniel Andrew Plew Sr., sister Analee Plew Robinson, grandson Leland Alexander Plew and step grandson John Pearson.

Mr. Plew had lived in this area since 1966 after previously moving from Mitchell, In. He was a purchasing agent at Shamrock ASN Plastics for 5 years, retiring in 1994, a materials manager at Overhead Door Corp for 6 years, and Williams Industries for a few years. He was also assistant purchasing agent at Carpenter Body Works from 1948-1966.

Bob graduated from Mitchell High School in 1947 and also attended trade school, was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Mitchell Lions Club, where he was president, Shelbyville Kiwanis and American Legion Post #70.

Bob was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Cpl. in Counter Intelligence, where he was awarded the National Defense Service medal.

On April 1, 2017 Bob took the Honor Flight to Washington, chaperoned by his son David, and that was the highlight of his life. Bob loved volunteering for the Glenn E. George & Son Coffee & Comfort Support Group, was a great storyteller, and enjoyed eating out at Cracker Barrel. He was a “people person” who loved being around others, and always had a positive “upbeat” attitude.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Brian Trotter officiating. Friends may call on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home, and on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Sheek’s Cemetery in Mitchell. A military service will be conducted by the American Legion.

Ruth Plummer, 87, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born January 19, 1934, in Laurel Co., KY, she was the daughter of Jesse and Pearl (Moore) Stailey. She married Kenneth M. Plummer, Jr. on December 22, 1952, and he preceded her in death on January 7, 2011. She was a homemaker and member of the Oolitic Baptist Church in Bedford.

Survivors include a daughter, Lee Ann Plummer, of Bedford; a grandson, Jeremy Plummer, of Bedford; a great-grandson, Jesse Plummer, of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Plummer, of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Ruthie Stailey, of Ft. Myers, FL; nieces and nephews, Fredi and Julie D’Alesio, Mike and Debbie Stailey, Trent Speer, Susan Speer-George, and David George.

Helen (Fiddler) Godsey, 91, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

She was born August 30, 1930, in Bedford, to Charles Louis Fiddler and Juanita (Brown) Fiddler. She married Daniel Godsey on September 12, 1948, and he preceded her in death on August 22, 2008.

Helen was a member of Grace Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving to cherish Helen’s memory are her sons, Charles L. Godsey, Donnie Godsey and Danny Lee (Lucy) Godsey; sisters, Jeanette Sorrells, Brenda Yeary, Alma (Walter) Lynn, Pam (Mark) Duncan and Sharon Crane; brothers, Jack (Janet) Fiddler and Ed (Brenda) Fiddler; grandchildren, Michael Godsey, Missy Wray, Joanna Ferran and Daniel Godsey; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Fiddler; and several great-grandchildren.

Pastor Reverend Roy Gilbert “Gib” Thornton, 81, of Bloomington went home on Monday, October 18, 2021.

He was born January 24, 1940 in Hart County, Kentucky to Roy Thornton and Mattie Brown Thornton. He was the Pastor at God’s Way Family Worship Center.

Survivors include his wife, Cherri L. Harris Thornton of Bloomington; two daughters, Lana Thomas and Cori Thornton both of Bloomington; a son, Aubrey Burt of Ellettsville; eight grandchildren, Cedric, Ananda, Ky-Rea and Veronica Thomas, Torien Thornton, and Judah, Zecheriah and Cathalaya Burt; four great grandchildren, Catalina, Cathalina, Cedric, Jr. and Anonymous; a brother, Leonard Thornton of Bedford; three sisters, Agnes Boone of Bedford, Donna (Dan) Ray of Louisville and Kimberly A. Harris of Bloomington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his twin brother, George Wilbert Thornton.

In addition to being the Pastor at God’s Way Family Worship Center, Gib has also retired from Westinghouse/ABB. He loved watching I.U. Sports and was a security guard at ESG for I.U., the Indianapolis Colts, going shopping, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was said to have never met a stranger, he loved spending time with people and most importantly his Lord.

There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM in Lighthouse Community Church, 850 E Winslow Rd. Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM also in the church with Pastors Derek House, Steven Lee, Rey Echavaria, Angela Carter and Rev. Dr. Bruce Rose officiating. He was born in Bloomington on December 6, 1994 to Justin Mahan and Amy (Eager) Mahan, he was of the Christian faith and was a graduate of Mitchell High School Class of 2013.

Fred Robert Maze, 59, of Bedford, passed away on October 7, 2021, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born July 31, 1962, in Bedford, he was the son of Dallas and Sharon (Battcher) Maze.

He married Todd Price on November 11, 2000, and he survives.

Fred was a hair stylist at the Cut Hut. He graduated as Valedictorian from Eastern Greene High School with the class of 1980 and was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman’s Club.

Surviving are his husband, Todd; mother, Sharon Maze; one sister, Janet (John) Graham; one brother, Bill (Julie) Maze; sister-in-law, Pam (Joe) Graves; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dallas; a very special grandmother, Faye Battcher; grandfather, Fred Battcher; brother-in-law, Randy Price; sister-in-law, Janell Fountain; mother and father-in-law, John and Carolyn Price; and his husband’s grandparents, Mike and Mildred Stewart.

She was born Feb. 12, 1934, in Bedford, to Augie and Rhea Dawn (Fields) Endris. She married Don Graves, son of Herman and Juanita Graves, on November 27, 1953, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2010.

Sue graduated from Bedford High School, class of 1952. She was a wife, mother, homemaker, and member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Bereavement Committee.

She was born August 14, 1949 to Billy Ray and Alice Marie Massey Gregory. She married Ralph Melvin on June 6, 1996 and he survives.

Charlotte grew up in Tennessee and Indianapolis, graduating high school in Indianapolis. She was a cook, working at the Padanaram Valley and different sororities.

Surviving to cherish Charlotte’s memory are her husband, Ralph; her children, Shawn Vincz, Camalot Wright, Godson Wright, Nina Suchanek and Viking Wright; stepdaughter, Shalana Melvin; her mother, Alice Gregory; 16 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Charlotte is preceded in death by her father, Billy Ray Gregory.

Marvin D. “Toby” Thrasher

Marvin D. “Toby” Thrasher, 79, of Bedford, passed away at 6:48 am on Monday, November 1, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born August 1, 1942, in Fairborn, OH, he was the son of Marshall and Emma (Quigley) Thrasher. He served in the U.S. Army for eighteen years, retiring with the rank of Captain. During his career, he served in Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand. While stationed at Fort Knox, he married Carol Rodman in 1962 and the family traveled to various stations across the country from Hawaii to North Carolina. Marvin held many positions in the Army, including drill sergeant, armor officer, pilot of Huey helicopters and airplanes, and company commander. His favorite jobs while in the service were flying and parachuting. After retirement, Marvin remained active in the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM where he earned 50-year pins there and in the York Rite and Scottish Rite. He was also a Shriner and baptized a Christian in 1981. Marvin’s greatest loves were raising his girls, spending time with family and friends, camping, traveling, reading, and watching films.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Bedford; daughters, Paula (Ritchie) Tirey, of Bedford, Tammy (David) Barrett, of Fayetteville, GA, and Sarah Thrasher, of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Jencie (Casey) Brown, of Ellettsville and their sons, Lincoln and Callen; a step-grandson, Bryan (Stephanie) Barrett, of Valley Green, AL and their children, Skylar, Austin, Alexander, and Ashton; his sisters, Pam and Linda; a brother, Donnie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Marty; a sister, Cathy; a daughter, Tina (in infancy).

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery. Jackie Lee Chastain, 88, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born October 21, 1933, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Fred Thomas and Mable M. (Compton) Chastain. He married Vivian Pierce on January 3, 1989.

Jack retired from the Bedford Unemployment Office and McIntyre Brothers. He was a 1951 graduate of Mitchell High School.

Jack was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 250.

Surviving are his step-daughter, Robbie (James) Fletcher of Elkhart; grandchildren, Joshua (Ashley) Fletcher of Angola, Quinton (Rachael) Fletcher of Middlebury, Adam Fletcher (Rachel) of Elkhart; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, Susan Mather, Pam Moore, and Cindy Garceau; nephew, Tom Mather.

His parents and siblings, Betty Mather and William “Bud” Chastain, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, at Mitchell Cemetery with Dr. Robert C. Courson, Jr. officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Edward Edgar “Mousey” Parsley, of Owensburg, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021.

Born November 11, 1925, in Owensburg, he was the son of Edgar Moses and Lizzie (Fox) Parsley. He married Lois Maxine Craig on March 6, 1949, and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2021. He was a Machinist at CRANE. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army and was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include children, Wilma Thurman (Steve) of Owensburg, Darwin Parsley (Gloria) of Springville, Kevin Parsley (Jane) of Springville, Jill Hays (Andy) of Owensburg; a son-in-law, Roger Harper twenty grandchildren, Karen Inman, Neal Fielder, Chris Fielder, Kent Fielder, Caleb Thurman, Ben Sherfield, Cora Sherfield, Jeff Parsley, Corey Harper, Craig Harper, Katherine Kinser, Nick Parsley, Korisha Tillet, Justin Parsley, Dustin Parsley, Dustin Workman Derek Workman, and; forty-six great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Kathy “Cricket” Harper; two granddaughters, Kala and Kristen Parsley; three sisters, Louise Page, Ruth Turpin, and Lois Marie Parsley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 3rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Duane Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the Owensburg Cemetery where military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 2nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Kathy D. “Cricket” Harper, 65, of Springville, passed away at 4:27 pm, on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born December 4, 1955, in Linton, IN, she was the daughter of Edward and Lois Maxine (Craig) Parsley. She married Roger Harper on November 18, 1977, and he survives. She was a quality control inspector for Cook, Inc. in Bloomington. She was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church. She loved her family, friends, and neighbors.

Survivors include her husband, Roger, of Springville; two sons, Corey Harper and wife, Kayla, of Springville and Craig Harper and wife, Ashley, of Solsberry, IN; seven grandchildren, Rainen, Raigan, Dylan, Chelsey, Devin, Kane, and Corbin; two brothers, Darwin Parsley and wife Gloria, of Owensburg and Kevin Parsley and wife, Jane, of Springville; two sisters, Wilma Thurman and husband, Steve, and Jill Hays and husband, Andy, all of Owensburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 nieces, Kristen and Kala Parsley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 3rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Duane Terry officiating. Charles “Charlie” Stidam, Jr.

Jan. 12, 1947 — Oct. 30, 2021

Charles “Charlie” Stidam, Jr., 74, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at his residence.

He was born January 12, 1947, in Seymour, to Charles and Helen Lucille (Wilkerson) Stidam, Sr. He married Ellen Baker on June 9, 1978, and she survives.

Charlie had worked at Extruded Alloys and, most recently, as a tree trimmer for Townsend Trees. He was a member of Fairview Community Church.

Charlie loved talking…to ANYONE!!! He never met a stranger…even on a wrong number on the phone! His greatest joy was the grandkids! Whether his own, step grandkids or the neighbors’ kids. Watching the kids play sports was always wonderful! He would also always load any and all of the kids for church!

Surviving Charlie is his wife, Ellen; sons, Charles (Tricia) Stidam and Jeremy (Myrna) Stidam; daughters, LaDana (Brent McVicker) Stidam-Parker and Maressa (fiancé Jake Livingston) Stidam; 11 grandchildren, Michael Stidam, Laura Collins, Matthew (fiancé Abby Anderson) Jarvis, Luke (fiancé Leah Staggs Martin) Jarvis, Jonathan (Lacy) Jarvis, Lucille Stidam-Vega, Jayden Duke, Zak Livingston, Allison Livingston, Jenna Livingston and Lillian Livingston; 13 great-grandchildren, Brayden Jarvis, Karen Ann Jarvis, Mazee Ritchison, Jolee Jarvis, Isaiah Jarvis, Anisty Jarvis, Lily Martin, Jake Martin, Paisley Jarvis and Tyson Jarvis; brothers, Everett (Judy) Stidam and Roy Stidam; niece, Vicki Stidam Patterson; and nephew, Kenny Stidam.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Freddie.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor Lindy Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Leesville Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., also at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.

Sheila Sue Baker

Sheila Sue Baker, 70, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Mitchell Manor.

Born June 5, 1951, in Bedford, she was the daughter of William J. and Kathryn C. (Hall) Baker.

Sheila had been employed at M. Fines and Son, Mitchell Manor, General Electric and retired from PRD. She enjoyed working puzzles and watching TV. Sheila was a member of the First Christian Church and a 1969 graduate of Mitchell High School.

Surviving are her two sisters, Willa Kay Howard of Mitchell, Cheryl Lynn Baker of Heltonville. Her parents preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Cremation was chosen with burial in Mitchell Cemetery.

Carolyn Sue (Eagans) Butcher

Carolyn Sue (Eagans) Butcher, 83, of Bedford passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born January 27, 1938 in Bedford, Indiana the daughter of Kelsie and Ella D. (Mayo) Eagans.

Carolyn attended the Oolitic High School. Carolyn worked for Sarkes Tarzian, Ford in Bedford, she was also a baker at the Black Buggy/Stoll’s in Bedford, and for Whitestone in Bloomington, but her greatest joy was being a homemaker and taken care of her family and all of her kids.

Carolyn served the Lord through being a member of Eastview Nazarene Church and Valley Mission Nazarene Church in Bedford by teaching Sunday School, being a Children’s Church Teacher, participating in Vacation Bible School and served on the church board. She enjoyed taking pictures, baking, cooking, gardening, sewing, scrapbooking and collecting clocks with her husband.

Carolyn is survived by her seven children, Terri Holmes and Trevor Roll; Mark Butcher; Scott Butcher (Jennifer); Lisa Butcher (Scott May); Tracy Meadows (Gary); Angel Butcher; sixteen grandchildren, Valarie Parkes (Josh); Chrisa Collier (Ben); Steven Roll; John Roll (Trisha); Timmy Roy Roll; J.R. Holmes (Shelly); Mechelle Griffith (Josh); Stacey Roll and Mathew Roll; Jordan Butcher (Keisha); David Butcher; Shane Meadows; Jared Meadows (Natasha); Emily (Garrett) Fox; Dakota Hawkins (Amanda); Madison Hawkins; seventeen great grandchildren, Breena Parkes; Kristen Parkes; Cambria Hudleson (Tyler); Brantley Roll; Kash Roll; Madilynn Griffin; Kaleb Holmes; Gabriel Griffin; Remington Roll; Alliyah Butcher; Ezra Butcher; Adalynn Butcher; Nola Meadows; Foster Meadows; Amelia Meadows; Layla Meadows; and Finley Meadows and one on the way; and great-great grandchild, Norman Hudleson; her sister Nancy Nolan of French Lick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Elroy Roll and Marshall Butcher; one son, Timothy Roll; three brothers, Kelsie Eagans; Luther Eagans and John Eagans.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 Bloomington. With Rev Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Monday, November 1, 2021 and from 10:00am to service time Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the funeral home.

Fredrick E. Snowden age 70 of Bedford passed away on Saturday October 30, 2021 at his residence.

He was born in Bedford on February 10, 1951 to Eugene Fredrick Snowden and Evelyn Marie (Melvin) Snowden. Fred was a professional Pool Player.

Survivors include his daughters, Charla M. (Patrick) Westerfeld of Oldenburg and Shannon (Danny) Nicholson of Bedford, three grandchildren, Brady R. Westerfeld of Oldenburg, Owen M. Westerfeld of Oldenburg, and Jace E. Nicholson of Bedford, the mother of his children, Peggy Seidle of Peru, his nieces & nephews, Teresa (Terry) Turner, Billy King, Andrea King, and Eric King.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Sue Ann Mikels and Linda D. Romine.

Cremation was chosen, with private services for family and friends at Dive Cemetery.
