Truman Dennis "Denny” Cummings Obit

Truman Dennis "Denny” Cummings

October 17, 1943 – March 31, 2025

Truman Dennis Cummings, known by all as Denny, passed away on March 31, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on October 17, 1943, he was the son of Joe and Hazel (Speer) Cummings. He spent his entire life on the family farm, a place that shaped his character, work ethic, and deep love for the land.

Denny was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Reida (Sanders) Cummings. Together, they shared 59 years of love, faith, and unwavering commitment to family. Their marriage was a testament to the strength of their bond, built on faith, hard work, and shared joys.

Denny was the proud father of three children: David (Yvonne) Cummings, Michael (Laura) Cummings, and Janel (Costa) Shepin. His greatest joy was being a grandfather to Jesseka, Jordan, Landon (Marissa), and Jacob Cummings, as well as Natalia and Nikolai Shepin. He adored his grandchildren and took every opportunity to share stories, wisdom, and laughter with them.

Preceding Denny in death are his parents, Joe and Hazel (Speer) Cummings and brother, Hubert Cummings.

A graduate of Heltonville High School, Denny dedicated many years of his life working at General Motors as a machine repairman. Earlier in life, he also worked at Cummins and Heltonville Limestone and served in the Army National Guard. Despite his professional commitments, his heart remained on the family farm, where he spent his entire life tending to the land, instilling a love of nature in his children, and embracing the rewards of hard work. Later in life, he found fulfillment in driving a school bus for the Lawrence County School District, where he enjoyed the daily interactions with students and the simple pleasure of greeting each child with a warm smile.

Denny was a man of deep faith, serving his church community, first at Mundell Christian Church, and later, at Hillcrest Christian Church. His faith guided him in all aspects of his life, and he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. Whether it was through church service, helping a neighbor, or offering quiet support to a friend, he lived out his Christian values every day.

A man of great wisdom, Denny was known for his steadfast nature, his unwavering dedication to family, and his willingness to step up whenever needed. He found peace in simple pleasures riding his tractor, watching the seasons change on his farm, and sharing meals with his loved ones.

His presence was a cornerstone in the lives of many, and his legacy of generosity, hard work, and faith will continue through the lives of those he loved. Though he will be deeply missed, the lessons he imparted and the love he shared will never be forgotten.

Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate the life of Denny on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 10:00am until 1:00pm at the Hillcrest Christian Church in Bedford. Erica Lea Lewis Obit

Erica Lea Lewis

Erica Lea Lewis, 44, of Bloomington, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at her residence.

Born August 9, 1980 in Bedford, Erica was the charismatic daughter of Susan Kay (Briscoe) Hughett and Hilliard Wayne King. She had a fierce love of her family and a talent for making anyone and everyone her friend.

Erica worked incredibly hard to be the first one in her family to earn a master’s degree and her family was infinitely proud of her when she conquered that mountain. She was a therapist by trade. Even when she was young, she was always everyone’s listening ear and advice giver. Nothing ever changed with that. What she was born to do however, was be a mother. When her son Maxwell was born, she fully became everything she was meant to be. She loved that boy with everything that was in her and there are no doubts she will continue to do so from her side of the sky.

She married Anthony Lewis on August 9, 2008 and that decision was one of the best she ever made, and one that she took so much pride in. Her husband was her partner in everything and that was made extremely apparent when she fell ill. He was by her side through everything and provided exponential care and love to her. It did not go unnoticed and the love they had for each other was palpable.

Aside from her husband and son, Erica had a love for Jesus that was unmatched. Her faith never faltered, even through all of the struggles that had come her way over the years. There is peace in knowing that she is with him now, in no more pain, and dancing around in the silliest way possible because that is who she was.

Erica is survived and greatly missed by her husband, Anthony Lewis; son, Maxwell Lewis; sisters, Hilliary (Robert) Lee and Brittany Hughett; best friend/brother, Nick (Merry) Pridemore; nephews, Shawn, Johnny, and Daley; nieces, Kaylea, Maddie, and Everleigh; cousin, Keli, whom she was very fond of; her step dad, Brian Hughett, who remained a consistent and supportive figure in her life; several aunts and uncles; and more friends than anyone can possibly count.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Susan Hughett; father, Hilliard King; paternal grandparents; and maternal grandparents.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, in Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Al Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.chastainfuneralhome.com

Lori Beth WIllhardt Obit

Lori Beth WIllhardt

MITCHELL – Lori Beth WIllhardt, 64, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025 at her residence.

Born November 23, 1960 in Deluth, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Elmer and Eva Grace (Sargent) Rahlf.

Mom. Grandma. Aunt. Navy Mom. Snack Queen. Cow Collector. Dog Mom.

To say Lori was a proud mother and grandmother would be an understatement. She raised three amazing kids—Alex, Jayse, and Cate—and then unofficially adopted Joe, her favorite son-in-law (she made that part very clear). When Lori loved you, you were family—no questions asked.

She was the proudest grandma to Kaycee, Bentley, Kinley, Parker, and Marci—but don’t you dare forget her nephews and nieces who were loved just as fiercely.

She lived for bleachers, buzzer-beaters, and bases loaded. From basketball to baseball, football to volleyball—if a kid she loved was playing, you could count on her being in the stands with her legendary snack bag and a loud cheer for the whole team, friends included. Everyone knew who she was, and if you didn’t, you definitely knew where the good snacks came from.

She wore the title “Navy Mom” with pride and wasn’t shy about bragging that her son was a big deal in the Navy. Every homecoming was a celebration, and every banner hung with love.

Lori had a special place in her heart (and home) for all things cows. If it had spots, horns, or udders, it probably had a place on her shelf. And nothing brought her comfort quite like her two loyal little chiweenies, Sadie and Roxie, who never left her side and gave her endless snuggles and sass.

The youngest of five, Lori now reunites with her sisters Sheryl and Cindy—and we know they’re already catching up on all the gossip and laughing like old times. Watching over Tammy and Randy now, those three are surely running heaven’s version of a front porch hangout.

Her legacy is one of fierce love, full stands, family-first loyalty, and snacks for days. Lori wasn’t always traditional, but she was unforgettable—and loved beyond words.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 28th at 4:00 PM, followed by a service at 5:00 PM, with a meal to follow—all at Hillcrest Church in Bedford. Come as you are, bring your stories, and help us celebrate Lori in the way she would’ve wanted: with love, laughter, and a good plate of food.

ROLLING THUNDER

Dreaming of rolling thunder

On a clear day sounds the sun

Brings me to my steering thoughts

I sure am having fun

My eyes have seen the glory

On these dotted lines I pass

As pupil scenes are born to teach

My mind’s a happy class

Take me through the chapters

Of this road I call my home

With every mile adventured

How my heart has truly grown

At night I bless the stars above

With compass in my hand

And wake up with a journey’s touch

I live to ride this land

Behind the wheel I’m still growing

A million miles am safe and sound

Showing pride through the love of each quest

As one to another we all share this road

Tis an honor to have you as a guest
