Cindi Brand

Local entrepreneur, Cindi Brand, left her earthly body to walk with Christ, her Lord and Savior, on Monday, March 28 while surrounded by her family at IU Hospital in Bloomington.

In just 50 short years, Cindi created an immensely beautiful life with her husband Chris. Together they had two children, whom Cindi loved unconditionally. Most weekends throughout their youth, it was easy to find Cindi poolside at Alexis’s swim meets or behind the dugout at Avery’s games. More recently, she liked to spend time with her granddaughter, Scout, and her lifelong friends, who became her chosen family. One of Cindi’s hobbies was to browse furniture stores online to get inspiration for the breathtakingly beautiful homes that she and Chris built.

Family and friends would describe Cindi as the most generous, most loving, most patient, most supportive, most forgiving, and the kindest person with the biggest heart. Anyone who met Cindi felt that if more people could love like her and be open to new experiences, the world would be a better place. Cindi had a curious mind and enjoyed learning from others, as she knew there was always more to know.

Cindi not only dedicated her life to her husband and children, but she was a faithful servant to God. She spent more than 20 years as an active member of Crossroads Community Church, and had recently been attending Highview Baptist Church. Cindi frequently said God gifted her the call to give. As a business owner, Cindi often spearheaded many fundraisers with her staff to help organizations with their needs. She regularly helped family, friends, and even strangers with anything they may have needed. The most precious gift she gave many people was her time. No matter how many tasks Cindi needed to accomplish, she always made time to listen and offer support and an encouraging word or two. We will never forget, her witnessing to family members the last few moments of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Cindi’s spirit of giving be honored and donations be made to the “Cindi Brand Scholarship Fund” which will be an annual gift to a Lawrence County graduating senior that is attending college. Or gather with your loved ones over chips and salsa to share stories that will make you laugh. Cindi leaves behind her beloved husband, Chris; daughter Alexis Ramsey (Brett); son Avery Brand; granddaughter Scout Ramsey; mother Karen Axsom (Mike); father Kenny Edwards (Marsha); four sisters, a brother, several nieces and nephews, and many friends who became family. For the lives she’s impacted so greatly with her generous love, she will be cherished by them all.

Her celebration of life will be held at Bedford First Church of God (Bedford, IN) on Monday, April 4th at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be Sunday, April 3rd, from 3-8 pm in the same location.

Caroline L. Harrison

March 01, 1947 — March 29, 2022

Caroline L. Harrison, 75, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at her residence.

Born March 1, 1947, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Lewis “Horseshoe” and Marie (Lake) Watson. She married Donald A. Harrison and he preceded her in death.

Caroline was of the Christian faith. She worked at the Hospitality House for many years.

Surviving to cherish Caroline’s memory are her daughters, Sheila Stevens, of Bedford, and Shirley (Jim) Edington, of Bedford; sons, Donald S. Harrison, of Bedford, and Toby (Whitney) Harrison, of Bedford; grandchildren, Amanda Childers, Jessica Graham, Samuel Harrison, Hannah Collins, Brittany Richardson, Chelsea Edington, Shannon Harrison, Cody Harrison, Seth Harrison, Dylan Stevens, Chance Edington, Blayne Harrison, Brylee Harrison, and Braylen Harrison; several great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Hughes; half-brothers and half-sisters, David Lake, Randy Lake, Karen Parker, and Rosella Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Noble Harrison; and siblings, Donnie, Jane, Merle, Marvetta, and Diane.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 1, 2022, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes with Brother Chris Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service hour at the funeral home.

Shirley Elizabeth (Sego) Gilstrap

May 30, 1925 — March 29, 2022

Shirley Elizabeth (Sego) Gilstrap, 96, of Bedford, passed away at 5:15 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at White River Lodge.

Born May 30, 1925, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Jeremiah and Maude (Bennett) Sego. She married George A. Gilstrap on December 16, 1944, and he preceded her in death on March 7, 2013, after 68 years of marriage.

In her younger years, she worked at RCA and the Fashion Beauty Salon in Bloomington but quit her job to stay home and care for her father-in-law. She also made beautiful ceramic figurines that would pass as being done by a professional. She loved to sing and spent many hours singing to the staff at White River Lodge whom she loved dearly. She was a homemaker, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruthie Gilstrap, of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Michele Lee Super (Tom), of Bedford, Thomas Scott Pinnick (Lana), of Bloomfield, Stephanie Ann Chastain (Jimmy), of Bedford, Bradley Dean Pinnick (Angye), of Mitchell, and Sharlyn Kay Redman (Brian), of Mitchell; fourteen great-grandchildren, Alayna Super, Alyssa (Super) Williams, Elizabeth (Chastain) Schmittou, Brady Chastain, Geordan (Smith) Harris, Cameron Smith, Britney Pinnick, Kayla Pinnick, Marrissa Pinnick, Tommy Pinnick, Wesley Pinnick, Brooke Pinnick, Justin Bennett, and Kelsey (Redman) McComb; sons-in-law, Thomas Pinnick and Mike Tanksley; several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, twin daughters, Sharon Lee Tanksley and Shirley Ann Pinnick, a sister, Alice M. (Sego) Fortner; six brothers, Arlie, Donald, Arthur, William, Charles, and Ray Sego and two (in infancy).

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 2nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Steve Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Marsha Lynn Kern

Marsha Lynn Kern, 69, of Bloomington, passed away at 7:00 am on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at her residence.

Born April 15, 1952, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of David and Dorothy (Russo) Lyons. She married Bob Kern on March 30, 1992, and he survives.

She was a budget analyst at NSWC Crane. She was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bob, of Bloomington; children, Natalie (Jimi) McFarlan, Bambie Breedlove, Amber Kern, Bobby (Kristen) Kern, and Robby Kern; eight grandchildren, Sage and Jade Kern, Harmonie Hill, Daven Linley, Haeven “Eagle” McFarlan, Kerrigan and Blake Browning, and Macarah McFarlan; a sister, Valarie Hester.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ray Mark Lindsey

Oct. 21, 1963 — March 27, 2022

Ray Mark Lindsey, 58, of Mitchell, passed away on March 27, 2022, at IU Health Bloomington.

Born October 21, 1963, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, he was the son of Charles and Dorothy (Dutcher) Lindsey. He married Debbie Wheeler on December 12, 2000, and she survives.

Ray was a graduate of Paoli High School class of 1982. He worked for the Indiana State Highway Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford; the Noon Lion’s Club; Marion Township Advisory Board; Suicide Prevention Coalition; and was highly involved in the GOP Republican Party at both the state and local levels.

Surviving to cherish Ray’s memory are his wife, Debbie; two sons, Tony (Stephanie) Brock and Adam (Alli) Brock; one daughter, Adrienne (Ronnie) Blackburn; eight grandchildren, Clayton, Cody, Christian, Gracie, Maddie, Addie, Sasha, and Ruby; one brother, Dick Lindsey; two sisters, Janie Chastain and Charlene (David) Graves; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Bob (Suzi) Evans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chuck Lindsey; and one sister, Jill Lindsey.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 1, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Bedford with Pastor Jason Filler officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-7 P.M. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Bedford.

Dustin Tolliver

Dustin Tolliver, 75, of Bedford, passed away at 5:30 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at his residence.

Born May 1, 1946, in Lansing, MI, he was the son of Wayne Franklin and Edith Helen (Stines) Tolliver. He married Mary Delpha on December 27, 2005, and she survives.

He retired from General Motors after 29 years as a truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the First Church of God in Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Bedford; four children, Carrie Ann Garland, Kevin Dustin Tolliver, Matthew R. Tolliver, and Derek W. Tolliver; a step-daughter, Samantha Earl; two brothers, Larry Dale Tolliver (Carolyn), of Harrodsburg and Douglas M. Tolliver (Susan), of Guthrie; two sisters, Linda Martin, of Bedford and Pamela Ritter(Steve), of Lawrence Co. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Phillip.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bob Courson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded at the graveside. Mira Jo “Jodie” Canfield

Mira Jo “Jodie” Canfield, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 12:12 pm on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Bliss Place.

Born September 13, 1935, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Gerald and Wella (McCafferty) Guthrie.

She retired as a clerk from the Lawrence County Health Department and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Mike Canfield (Robin), of Bloomington; a daughter, Terri Delisle (Frank), of Keller, TX; six grandchildren: Justin Canfield, Jared Canfield and wife Joni, Stacie Deckard and husband Tyler, Samantha Kerr and husband Clint, John Canfield and wife Tia, and Ryan Delisle; several great grandchildren; a brother, Steve Guthrie (Gwen), of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Catherine Canfield.

Wilma J. Fields

Wilma J. Fields, 84, of Bedford, died on Saturday, March 26th at Westview Nursing and Rehab in Bedford.

Born January 5, 1938, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Floyd Thompson and Gertie Nicholson Thompson. She married William D. Fields on February 22, 1958, and he survives.

She was a graduate of Oolitic High School with the class of 1956, and a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, crafting, and painting. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Wilma was a member of the Midtown Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, William “Willie” of Bedford; one son, Scott Fields and wife Dana, of Greenwood; one daughter, Lisa Tran and husband Quang, of Bedford; six grandchildren, Matt Fields of Greenwood, Kelcey Scheidler and husband Nick, of Arkansas, Shelby Fields, of Greenwood, Chad Kelker and wife Alyssa, of Florida, Lindsey Johnson and husband Ryan, of Florida, and Zach Tran and wife Emily, of Indianapolis; four great grandchildren, Malaki Kelker, Seth Kelker, Paisley Kelker, Vivienne Scheidler, and one great-grandson due in May; and one sister, Maxine Woodward, of Charlestown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd, and Gertie Thompson; one brother, Raymond; and five sisters, Opal, Faye, Betty, Annie, and Dorothy.

Betty P. Bell

Feb. 12, 1945 — March 25, 2022

Betty P. Bell, 77, of Bedford, passed away on March 25, 2022, at her residence in Bedford.

Born February 12, 1945, in Wayne County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Owen and Lela (Jones) Phillips. She married Harold Bell on April 4, 1964, and he preceded her in death on March 30, 2013.

Betty had worked for M. Fine and Sons and later retired from Westview Nursing and Rehab in Bedford. She had attended the Trinity Pentecostal Church in Springville.

Surviving Betty are two daughters, Betty June Cooper and Lisa (Wendell) Cooper; brother, Ray Phillips; sister, Zula (Roy) Bell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six siblings, Velma, Jr., Arthur, Develda, Delmer and Bobby Joe.

Vickey Lynn Cummings

Vickey Lynn Cummings, 67, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022, at her residence.

Born May 4, 1954, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Paul Richard and Ruth Elizabeth (Pemberton) Patton.

Vickey worked at Baxter Pharmaceuticals. She loved her grandsons, cooking, and animals; especially cats. She was baptized in the faith at Freetown Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are her son, Scott (Polly) Patton of Oolitic; grandchildren, Jeffery Patton and Elijah Patton; sisters, Connie Sue Pace of Austin, TX, Sandra Gail Prince of Bedford, and Nancy Elizabeth (Mark) Love of Oolitic.

Preceding her in death were her father, Paul Richard Patton; mother, Ruth Elizabeth Hash; and sister Brenda Kay LaMar.

Thomas Oran Chapman

Thomas Oran Chapman, 74, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022, at his residence.

Born July 6, 1947, in Bedford, he was the son of James Nelson and Marilou (Guthrie) Chapman. He married Donna Jean Austin, October 24, 1986.

Tom was truck driver for many years with Hancock Trucking.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Jean Chapman of Mitchell; sons, Thomas Nelson (Shelly) Chapman of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Brian Keith (Tammy) Chapman of Mitchell; step-son, Tony (Dana) Spradlin of Campbellsburg; siblings, Debbie Ann (Gary) Russell of Orleans, Robert Nelson (Cynthia) Chapman of Mitchell; nephews, Allen Russell and J.R. Chapman; and 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

His parents; step-son, Larry Spradlin; grandson, Caden Chapman; and nephew, Michael Gray preceded him in death.

Graveside Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30th at Mitchell Cemetery with Brother Jim Bush officiating.

Rose Marie Woods

Rose Marie Woods, 85, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at her residence.

Born September 12, 1936, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Paul and Madge (Jaynes) Terry.

Rose was a homemaker and she enjoyed fishing and traveling. She was a member of the Saltillo Christian Church. Rose was a wonderful mother.

Survivors include her children, Arnold (Beverly) Woods, Jr. of Norman, William (Debra) Woods of Oakland City, Michael (Naomi) Woods of Campbellsburg, Rosetta (Sam) Elliott of Campbellsburg; brother, Paul David Terry of North Vernon; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Her father; mother, Madge M. Brooks; brothers, Kenneth Hershel Terry, Daniel Terry, and Harold Dean Terry; sisters, Barbara Pederson, Rita Ann Palmer, and Sandra Tolbert; great-grandchildren, Reese Mollet and JD Armstrong; and father of the children, Arnold Woods Sr. preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Bro. Mark Gray officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery.

John P. Wronowicz, Jr.

Sept. 25, 1955 — March 17, 2022

John P. Wronowicz, Jr. age 66 of Bedford passed away at IU health in Bedford on March 17, 2022 at 3:59 Am.

He was born in Batavia, New York on September 25, 1955 to John P. Wronowicz and Sophia (Will) Wronowicz. He graduated from Akron Central High School and the University of Alabama Birmingham with a degree in Engineering.

John retired from General Motors in Bedford and the IU Cycletron where he was the Quality manager. He was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church in Bedford.

John married Tammy L. (Cain) Wronowicz on April 27, 2002 and she preceded him in death on October 11, 2020.

Survivors include one daughter, Lori (Ryan) Frasher of Bargersville; one son, Matthew (Chelsea) Wronowicz of Bedford; two step-daughters, Mandy (Seth) Ramey of Bedford, and Brittany (Joe) Dabkowski of Mooresville; sixteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; five sisters, Jean (Tony) Ammons, Veronica Daugherty, Patricia Brown, Frances (William) Bartlett, and Lucy (Robert) Gayle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Tammy; one sister, Rose Boniface.

Funeral services will be held on Monday March 28, 2022 at Hillcrest Christian Church, 1130 Hillcrest Road, Bedford, Indiana at 7:00 pm, with Brother Mark Fugate and Brother Jimmy Johnson officiating. Visitation will be on Monday March 28, 2022 from 2:00 pm until service time at 7:00 pm at the church.

Neva I. Tirey

Sept. 22, 1931 — March 19, 2022

Neva I. Tirey, 90, of Venice, FL, formerly of Bedford and New Castle, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, in Florida after a brief illness.

Born September 22, 1931, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Everett and Dorothy (Allen) Reynolds. She was a graduate of Shawswick High School. She married George Tirey on May 10, 1953, and he preceded her in death June 12, 2018.

She had worked for Duke Energy and was a member of the First Christian Church and the Elks Lodge #484 both in New Castle, IN. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #0159 and Moose Lodge #1308, both in Venice, FL. She enjoyed volunteering and boating on the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers.

Survivors include three nephews, Darrell Hall and wife, Jane, Dwight Hall, and Jeff Massey and wife, Cindy; a great-nephew, Kyle Massey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Violet Hall.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 26th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with John Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinhook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Saturday at the mortuary.

Victor H. Wagner

June 23, 1928 — March 20, 2022

Victor H. Wagner passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter and son-in-law on March 20, 2022, in Jamestown, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family.

Vic was born June 23, 1928, to Oliver and Evaline Wagner and spent most of his life in his hometown, Bedford, Indiana.

Vic was exceptionally proud of Bedford and Lawrence County. Having attended Bedford schools throughout his life, he met the love of his life, Norma Hawkins, in the third grade. They were married in July after graduating from Bedford High School in 1947, savoring forty-seven beautiful years of marriage. Norma preceded him in death on June 19, 1994. He later married Carol Phipps on September 23, 2000, who also preceded him in death.

The First Baptist Church in Bedford was Vic’s home church for many years. Vic loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his faith. His fellow congregants were very dear to his heart. Vic loved Indiana University, Bedford High School, and BNL basketball. As a member of the Stone City Quartet, he delighted audiences throughout central and southern Indiana. Vic’s love for music and singing allowed him to evolve as a soloist for many events. His love for music was instilled in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The prestigious Sagamore of Indiana Award was presented to Vic from Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, acknowledging his contributions to his local community and beyond.

His many public service interests included active involvement in the Bedford Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge #14, and served as former president of the Bedford Regional Medical Foundation, which is now The IU Health Foundation. Throughout his lifetime, he taught Sunday School and served as PTO president for several years. Many Bedford residents knew Vic through his 30 years of employment at Jim Day Furniture, enjoying his cheerfulness and quick wit.

Loving survivors include his children, son, Vic Wagner (Carla) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; daughters, Brenda Hetzler (Darrel) of Jamestown, Ohio, and Christi Dietrick (Jim) of Fishers, Indiana; stepchildren, Alan Phipps (Karen) of Bedford and stepdaughter, Lisa Campbell (Robert) of Bedford. Grandchildren include Jamie Conway (Lance) of Pendleton, Indiana; Vickie Green (Joe) of Jamestown, Ohio; Kiera Granger (Michael) of Jamestown, Ohio; Troy Wagner (Cassie) of The Woodlands, Texas; Tracy Billingsley (Jay) of Andover, Kansas; Leah McGrath (Brian) of Fishers, Indiana; Scott Dietrick (Megan) of Herndon, Virginia; step-grandchildren, Adam Phipps (Jill) of Zionsville, Indiana; Audra Patrick (Marcus) of Lexington, Kentucky; Amanda Phipps of Washington, Indiana. Great-grandchildren include Raya, Wagner, and Briella Conway; Taylor Frye (Chance), Caleb Green (Imani), and Marlee Green; Makenna and Luke Granger; Alice and Carly Wagner; Alliann and Owen Thomas; Patrick, Nate, and Ethan McGrath; Timothy and Kathryn Dietrick. Along with his parents, wife Norma and his second wife Carol, Vic was preceded in death by his sisters Donna Walker, Louise McPike, Iris Wagner and four brothers Billy, Gordon, Warren, and George. Vic was also preceded in death by his much-loved great-grandson, Evan Thomas.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the Bliss Place employees and residents where he lived from 2017 to 2020, receiving wonderful care and fellowship. They also desire to express their endless gratitude to Vic’s daughter and husband, Brenda, and Darrel Hetzler, for the loving devotion and attentiveness he received while living with them the past twenty-two months, providing him with much happiness during his final days.

Mark Anthony Phillips Jr., 41, of Springville, passed away on March 21, 2022.

Born December 11, 1980, he was the son of Mark Anthony Phillips Sr. and Sharon (Tincher) Phillips.

Mark was a graduate with the B-NL class of 2000, was a US Army Veteran and served eight years in the National Guard. He was an Iraq war veteran. Mark attended Oak Grove and Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Churches and he enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing pool. He especially enjoyed movie nights with his kids and midnight snacks. He always did Kendall’s hair.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Mark are his parents, Mark Sr. and Sharon Phillips; his six children, Shaun Phillips, Matalyn Kern, Lilly Phillips, Mirra Phillips, Jarred Phillips, and Kendall Phillips; four siblings, John (Brandi) Phillips, Jessica (Ryan) Flynn, Justin Phillips and Matt (Audie) Phillips; his maternal grandmother, AnnaBelle Halbert; his paternal grandmother, Janna McArtor; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Mark was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Tincher; paternal grandfather, David Eugene Phillips; three uncles, Ralph, Rick and Randy; and one niece, Scarlett.

Joy Elaine (Stech) Griffith, 76, of Bedford, Indiana passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021.

Joy was born on March 16, 1945 to Gerald and Evelyn (Clevenger) Stech, both deceased. She graduated in 1963 from Huntington Township High School in Huntington, Indiana, where she played clarinet in the high school band. She was an active 4-H member who continued to enjoy crafting, sewing, and crocheting throughout her life. Joy attended The King’s College of Briarcliff Manor, New York, and tutored students in Harlem.

On Valentine’s Day, 1965, she married Michael Lee Griffith, her high school sweetheart. She was a homemaker who deeply loved her family. Joy was a devoted Christian Believer with a patient and generous heart.

Joy is survived by her husband Mike; their children Todd Griffith of South Whitley, IN; Eric (Michelle) Griffith of Crane, IN; and Jodi (Peter) Petretta of Charles Town, West Virginia She is also survived by her sister Joan Terrell of Auburn, Alabama and her brother Glenn Stech of Kimmell, IN.

A celebration of Joy’s life is planned for 2:00 on March 26, 2022 at her church. Tabernacle of Praise, 1381 US. Highway 50 East, Bedford, Indiana.

Ralph Lloyd Melvin, 67, of Bedford, passed away on March 18, 2022 at his residence in Bedford.

Born October 23, 1954, he was the son of Lloyd E. and Lucille (DeArmond) Melvin. He married Charlotte Gregory on June 6, 1996 and she preceded him in death on October 28. 2021.

Ralph worked for Sims Painting, was a veteran of the United States Army and served 14 years with the Army National Guard.

Surviving Ralph is one sister, Cora Elkins; two brothers, Randy (Patty) Melvin and Ronnie (Vicki) Melvin; half-brother, Steve Meador; two half-sisters, Sherry Lewis and Kathy Dalquist; five stepchildren, Shawn Vincz, Camelot Wright, Godson Wright, Nina Suchanek, and Viking Wright; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Archie and Lloyd; and a sister, Delia.

Carl David Armstrong, 71, of Evansville, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at his home.

Born December 1, 1950, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Cecil and Margaret (Spreen) Armstrong.

Carl was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1968 and from the University of Evansville with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as an engineer for the Crane Naval Weapons Support Center until his retirement. Post retirement, he enjoyed tutoring college mathematics students in Bloomington and Evansville. He was a Life Master Bridge player and participated in tournaments throughout the country. He will be remembered for his brilliant intellect, generosity and humble spirit.

Survivors include a sister, Jean Williams; a brother, James D. Armstrong; a niece, Lisa Webb and husband, Allen; a nephew, John A. Williams, Jr. and wife, Tracy, all of Bedford; two great-nephews, Alexander Webb and wife, Olivia and Andrew Webb and wife, Jordan; two great-nieces, Margaret Williams, of Bedford and Liza (Williams) Gouty and husband, A.J., of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, John A. Williams.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, March 23rd at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford with Rev. Wayne Neeley officiating. Charles Wayne Garland, 73, of Mitchell, passed away at 8:16 pm on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born October 2, 1948, in Hammond, IN, he was the son of Joe and Nettie (Bush) Garland. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the V.F.W. Post in Mitchell.

Survivors include five children, Clayton Garland (Angela), Teresa Andis (Eddie), and Charles Wayne Garland, Jr., all of Bedford, Joseph Garland, of Avoca, and Kenneth Garland, of New Castle; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Judy Watson, Mary Jane Baker, and Joyce Sipes.

Donald Richard “Dick” Johnson

On Monday, March 21, 2022, Donald Richard “Dick” Johnson, loving husband and father of three sons, peacefully entered his eternal life at age 82.

Born on April 29, 1939, in Shoals, Indiana to Neal and Josephine (Stone) Johnson, Dick graduated from Shoals High School in 1958, where he was a member of the Jug Rox basketball team. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served for 9 years, stationed in Pensacola, FL, Bainbridge, MD, Norfolk, VA, and Lafayette, LA. On April 23, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Judith Anne Cropp. When he was discharged from the Navy, he worked at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Crane, retiring in 1994.

He was best known for his kind and gentle soul and love for his family.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Carroll and Kenny.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy; his three sons, Greg (Marcy) Johnson, Kansas City, Missouri, Jim (Susan) Johnson, Bedford Indiana, Brent (Dezarae) Johnson, Vincennes, Indiana; four grandchildren, Morgan (YS Blake) Philips, Mission Kansas, Abbey Johnson, Kansas City, Missouri, Karlie (Daniel) Dreiman, Vincennes, Indiana, Nick Johnson, Craggy Wash, Arizona; and great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Grayson “GR” Dreiman. He is also survived by two brothers, Johnny and Mike; and four sisters, Mary Jo, Nina, Sally, and Cindy; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 24th at 11:30 am at the First United Methodist Church, 1409 K Street, Bedford, Indiana.

Tammy Jo Inman, 53, passed away, Saturday, March 19, 2022, at her residence.

Born December 5, 1968, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Larry Don and Vicki Lou (Saunders) Reynolds. She married Larry Dean Inman, August 14, 1999.

Tammy was a homemaker and a 1987 graduate of Mitchell High School. She was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout Leader, and an active sports mom. Tammy loved her kids.

Surviving are her husband, Larry Dean Inman of Mitchell; children, Sarah Ellen Passmore of Mitchell, Casey Lynn Passmore of Mitchell, Abigail Lee (Jared) Murphy of Spencer, Forrest Mason Inman of Mitchell, Madyson Michelle Noel Inman of Mitchell, Hayden Jackson Inman of Mitchell; grandchildren, Mya Louise Medley, Pyper Lucille Passmore, Oliver Lee Passmore, Noah Dean Murphy, and one expected in September; parents, Larry Dean Reynolds of Bedford and Vicki Lou Saunders of Mitchell; sister, Tina Jo Reynolds-Bishop of Mitchell.

Ronald David Cole, 79, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born March 12, 1943, in Washington County, he was the son of Thomas Bryce Stanfield and Edna Ola (Price) Cole. He married Gretchen Roxanne Schultz in 1987.

Ronald retired from Regal-Beloit and was a “jack of all trades.” He enjoyed repairing antique clocks, and was very good at drawing. He was an avid car fan and loved car shows. Ronald was a 1961 graduate of Salem High School.

Surviving are his wife, Gretchen Cole of Salem; children, Ronald Scott (Lisa) Cole of Bedford, Debbie (Bob) Lewis of Bloomington; stepchildren, Sam Cruz of Jeffersonville, John Almendarez of Salem, Cameron (Angie) Moffatt of Salem, Jessie Carvalho of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

Cremation was chosen with no service. Burial will be at a later date in Cole Cemetery.

Orval L. Huffman, Jr.

Jan. 24, 1932 — March 18, 2022

Orval L. Huffman, Jr. 90, of Bedford, left this earthly life to his reward on Friday March 18, 2022.

Born January 24, 1932, he was the son of the Rev. Orval L. and Gladys Huffman.

Orval, nicknamed “Cheese” from his boyhood days, was a natural at sports like basketball and was a top scoring forward on his Orleans Bulldog high school team. He went on to play for the Indiana State Sycamores until an ankle injury changed his course. He received his Bachelor of Science from Indiana State University and his Master of Science in Teaching from Indiana University, Bloomington.

He was a popular teacher among many of his students in Industrial Arts, Woodworking and Driver’s Education with his career path moving from Greensburg to Ellettsville and finally to the Bedford Schools, but he is probably best known for his coaching.

When he retired from his position as head baseball coach at Bedford North Lawrence High School, he had an impressive 420 win to 155 loss record with trips to the State finals in 1975 and 1977 and twice coaching the South team in the North/South Allstars during those years. For all his coaching accomplishments, he was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987, and in 2015, he was honored locally with an annual baseball tournament in his name, the “Orval Huffman Invitational”.

Surviving Orval are his wife of 44 years, Sandra; three daughters: Carla Huffman, Pam Long, and Brenda Cummins (Jeff); three step-children: Billie Busch (Bob), Barrie Fogg (Paul), and Blake Bower; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who knew him affectionately as “Gramps”; and a younger sister, Ruth Stevens (Shelby).

He was preceded in death by his parents; an older brother, Fred Huffman; and an older sister, Elnora Albin.

He loved and was proud of his family, loved spending time with them, and enjoyed tracing the history of his family tree. We were extremely blessed knowing that he had been a big part of ours— forever in our hearts until we meet again….

Sharon Lynn Purdy, 58, of Heltonville, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 19, 2022.

Born on February 25, 1964 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Charles E. & Grace Carolyn (Abel) Phillips. She was married to Terry Purdy, and he survives.

Sharon was a homemaker and retired hairdresser. She was a graduate of Mitchell High School and attended beauty college in Bloomington. She loved sports and was a Notre Dame fan. She had been baptized and was of the Christian faith.

Surviving to cherish Sharon’s memory is, her husband of 22 years, Terry Purdy of Heltonville; her mother, Grace Phillips of Mitchell; two brothers, Gregory Lee Phillips and wife Janet, and Gordon Gene Phillips and wife Carol, both of Mitchell; nine nephews; two nieces; one great nephew; her father-in-law, William (Don) Purdy of Heltonville; sister-in-law, Teresa Davis of Heltonville; and her brother-in-law, Tony Purdy and wife Anita, of Bedford.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Charles E. Phillips; and her mother-in-law, Letta Mae Purdy.

Born November 21, 1927 in Shoals, she was the daughter of Victor and Eula Mae (Ketchem) Herndon. She married Alfred Aaron Rutledge and he preceded her in death in 1982.

Myrtle was a graduate of Shoals High School, attended the River Church, and retired from NSWC Crane.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Hatfield; grandchildren, Lisa Johnson, Jimmy Ragens, Theresa White, Amanda Hunt, Kevin Stewart, Troy Stewart, James Bruner Jr., Misty Stewart, John Rutledge, Carrie Cox, Nicole Hatfield, Andrew Workman, and Katrina Schitter; 27 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five children, Candace Mundy, Becky Costello, Cheryl Bruner, Alfred Rutledge, Jr., and Michael Rutledge; and one grandson, Alfred Rutledge III.

Martha Jane (Davis) Weir

Martha Jane (Davis) Weir, age 95, of Mitchell, Indiana, passed away Friday, March 11th, in her home.

Martha was born in Mitchell, Indiana, on December 26th, 1926. Her parents were Fred and Nell Davis. She was born, raised, and passed away in her home on the Davis family farm, now in the fourth generation of ownership. She was married to Charles Weir in 1944. They were married for more than 50 years. Martha and Charles enjoyed Airstream traveling, developing many close friendships over twenty years of “Air-streaming.”

Martha had many interests. She enjoyed her family, cooking, gardening, and was an avid seamstress, quilter, weaver, and needle crafter. She was a member of the Quarry Quilters Club, and was the featured Quilter in the 2016 club’s show. She was a kind and generous person, giving her lovingly crafted quilts, hand knit socks, bags, and other items to family members and friends.

Martha Weir is survived by two children, Dr. C. Douglas Weir and his wife Carol, of Mitchell, and Elizabeth (Weir) Brown, and spouse Philip, of Charlotte, North Carolina, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters, Ruth Knowles and Mary Greiner.

William Leslie Corya, 82, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at his residence after a short illness.

Born December 29, 1939, in Bedford, he was the son of Harry and Mildred (Parham) Corya. He married Lynda Kirkman on January 19, 1962, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Oolitic High School, Purdue University, and Indiana University. He retired in 2010, after 43 years of service, from Purdue University as the Assistant Director of the University Libraries. He loved the Lord and his family. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, especially furniture. He was a member of the River City First Assembly of God in Lafayette.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda, of Lafayette; a daughter, Lezlie Peabody and husband, Mike, of Lafayette; a son, William Eric Corya and wife, Christine, of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Cory (Erin) Peabody, Kyle (Lindsey) Peabody, Evan Peabody, and Ethan (Morgan) Peabody all of Lafayette, Brogan Corya, of Zionsville, and Dalton Corya, of Brownsburg; five great-grandchildren, Hadley, Piper, Scout, Molly and Natalie Peabody and two on the way; a sister, Becky Buher and husband, Jim, of Bedford; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born February 15, 1936, in Detroit, MI. He was a journeyman retiring from Visteon. He married Karen (Turner) Hall on February 13, 1986, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife, Karen, are two step-children, Sherrlyn Fletcher and Jodee Rhorer and husband, Steve, all of Bedford; four step-grandchildren, Mallory Simmons and husband, Mike, Joshua Fletcher, Jace Rhorer, and Ally Rhorer; great-grandchildren, Brody and Adaly Simmons; a sister, Judy Kaminsky and husband, Bob, of MI; and a daughter, Mariann.

She was born in Bedford on June 7, 1969, to William and Loretta Beaver Baker. She married Michael Donica on November 12, 1988, in Bedford at the Donica Church of God and he survives.

Dian was a graduate of Bedford-North Lawrence High School and Oakland City College. She attended Turning Point Church of the Nazarene in Heltonville. She had worked at Hoosier Hills Credit Union, drove a school bus for North-Lawrence Community Schools and was a secretary at Donica Church.

Surviving to cherish Dian’s memory is her mother, Loretta Cranfield of Bedford; husband, Michael of Bedford; children, Aaron (Brandon Oxley) Donica of Carmel, Riley (Genny) Donica and Clint (Abbi) Donica, both of Bedford; grandchildren, Amiah Donica and Kasen Donica; sister, Vickie Dalton of Bedford; step-brothers, Jeremy Cranfield of West Baden and Michael Cranfield of Paoli.

Joseph (Xavier) Vanmeter Lagle age 20 of Bedford passed away on Monday March 14, 2022 at his residence.

He was born in Bedford on November 17, 2001 to Joey Lagle and Amanda Vanmeter York.

He was a graduate of BNL High School and worked at Catalent in Bloomington. He was a loving Dad, a hard worker, he loved his family and cousins, he was energetic.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Amanda and Ty York; his daughter, Adeline Lagle; his fiancé’ Shianne Summers; one brother, Jordan York; three sisters, Jazmyn York, Alivia Lagle and Meadow Lagle; grandparents, Ralph (Butch) and Debra Vanmeter; and Sheila Lagle; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joey Lagle; grandmother, Susan Busch; grandfather, Rick Lagle; and best friend, Dayton Landreth.

Funeral services will be held on Monday March 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with Brother Ronnie Frost, officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Michael Paul Cleveland

Michael Paul Cleveland, 80, of Shelbyville, passed away at 3:10 PM on March 14, 2022 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis, IN.

He was born August 3, 1941 in Mitchell, IN, the son of Edgar and Mabel (Wigley) Cleveland. He married Anna (McLearran) Cleveland on August 9, 1959 and she survives.

He was a mechanic for twenty-four years. He enjoyed fishing, boating, woodworking, racing, directing church choir and spending time with family. He was a member of the Shelbyville First Church of Nazarene and Bassmaster.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years; three daughters, Rhonda Danford of Indianapolis, Rita Sasiter (Terry) of Watonga, OK and Trisha Evans (Floyd-Lee) of Urbana, OH; one son, Michael A Cleveland (Kristina) of Shelbyville, IN; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; one brother and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11:30 AM on Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Orleans.

Nick Fields age 60 of Bedford passed away on March 14, 2022 at his residence.

He was born in Kentucky on March 10, 1962 to Audrey (Fox) Fields.

Nick was disabled and was formerly the owner of D&K Pool supplies in Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his mother Audrey Fields in 2021.

Survivors include his children, Elizabeth Fields of Mitchell, Joseph Fields of Mitchell, and Nathan Fields of Kentucky, three grandchildren, Maggie Jones, Elijah Fields and Knox Fields.

Cremation was chosen.

Denny Lee Hignite

Denny Lee Hignite, 65, gained his wings and soared his way into Heaven on March 11, 2022, at 11:21 am.

Born in Bedford, the son of Elisha Hignite and Sandra Davis.

Denny was a retired owner/operator of DLH Enterprise, LLC and a jack-of-all-trades. He was everyone’s go to guy for anything big or small. His passion in life was family, fishing, painting and cooking for anyone that wanted to join our tables. He loved to make people laugh with his jokes. He fascinated many people with his knowledge.

Cherished memories are what Denny leaves behind for his wife of 26 years, Jacklyn; his mother, Sandra Davis; beloved children, Michael Lance (Courtney) Hignite, Randle Hignite, Jessie Lee Hignite, Kaden (Morgan) Hill and Kameron Albertson; brothers, Danny Joe (Teresa) Hignite, Darren Hignite, David (Angie) Hignite; sister, DeeDee (Eric) Baker; 19 grandchildren with one on the way; 5 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his father and four-legged buddy, Miss Layla.

Terry Sanders

Terry Sanders, 73, of Bedford, passed away at 11:14 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born June 2, 1948, he was the son of Paul and Bonnie (Peters) Sanders. He married Pauline Bell on October 30, 1970, and she survives.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter #2 of Bedford and served as the DAV State Commander for two terms. He was past commander of V.F.W. Post #9107 of Mitchell, and member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion, FRA Fleet Reserve Assoc., Bedford Masonic Lodge #14, and F.O.P. #172 of Mitchell. Terry was a recipient of both the Kentucky Colonel and Indiana Saginaw of the Wabash award for his distinguished work on behalf of military veterans

Survivors included his wife, Pauline, of Bedford; a son, Travis Wayne Sanders and wife, Denise; a daughter, Ginger Dodge and husband, Danny, of CO; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Sanders and wife, Carol, of Bedford; a sister, Krista Sipples and husband, Paul, of Batesville, IN; a step-brother, Mike Leslie, of TN and a step-sister, Lisa Webb and husband, Mike, of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Sanders, and a son, Eric (in infancy).

A celebration of life will start at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 21st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Interment will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military rites accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Wanda Jean Hall, 81, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022, at her residence.

Born July 9, 1940, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Ernest Elwood and Margaret (Sons) Lane. She married Billy Dean Hall March 7, 1957.

Wanda had been a cook at the Homestead Restaurant. She enjoyed cooking and reading cookbooks. Wanda loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Old Union Christian Church.

Surviving are her husband, Billy Dean Hall of Williams; children, Ernest Dean Hall of Williams, Susan (David) Callahan of Bedford, Lisa (John) Anduha of North Vernon, Donna Sherer of Altamont, Illinois; grandchildren, Angel Hall, Crystal Riggs, Howard Dean Callahan, Sarah Jane Callahan, and Zach Hall; great grandchildren, Damien, James, Mitch, McKenzie, and Hunter Dean; siblings, Betty Jo Gilbert of Owenton, Kentucky, Brenda Gilbert of Owenton, Kentucky, Suzie Cain of North Vernon, Mary Louise Armes of North Vernon.

Her parents and siblings, Elizabeth Noles and Charles Lane, preceded her in death.

Charles Buck Lemon

Charles Buck Lemon (known as “Bucky” to most) of Winter Park, Florida passed away on March 8, 2022 at the age of 68.

Charles was born to June (Lane) Lemon and Claude Charles “Buck” Lemon in Bedford, Indiana on September 3, 1953. He spent his childhood between Miami, Florida and Bedford, Indiana, where he built and maintained close relationships with friends and family members of all ages. After graduating Bedford High School in 1971, he attended Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana, and he held an Indiana Real Estate Broker’s license.

After school Charles returned to Bedford to work for the furniture business his father had founded in the 1940’s. Charles was Vice President and Co-Owner of Buck Lemon Furniture Store in Bedford, Indiana from 1974 until its closing in 1998. He enjoyed the daily interaction with employees and customers alike.

Charles later moved to Central Florida to spend more time with his niece and nephew, whom he loved to entertain with his “Uncle Bucky” antics. Bucky was a great storyteller and a comedian in his own right- he was boldly opinionated, eccentric, and observant. He was a voracious reader, movie critic, antiquer, car enthusiast, gardener, and animal lover. He enjoyed driving throughout the great outdoors, especially on his farm or down back roads, and he never missed an opportunity to have dinner with family. Bucky had a huge heart and a special ability to connect with anybody. He will be immensely missed by his loved ones.

Bucky is survived by his sister, Claudia Lemon Cook; brother-in-law, Stephen Cook; niece, Christina Elaine Cook; and nephew, Colin Charles Cook. He is predeceased by his mother, June Lane, and father, Claude Lemon.

Services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 11am at All Saints Episcopal Church in Winter Park, Florida, followed by a graveside burial at 11am on Thursday, March 17 at Cresthaven Memory Gardens in Bedford, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Lawrence County Museum of History, or your local animal shelter, all organizations that Charles felt strongly about.

Rosella H. Strauser, 84, of Springville, passed away at 9:15 am on Monday, March 14, 2022, at Mitchell Manor.

Born June 18, 1937, in Greene Co., she was the daughter of James Curtis and Sarah Jane (Hudson) Hayes. She married Raymond Strauser on September 13, 1958, and he survives.

She was a homemaker and attended Oak Grove Pentecostal Church in Springville.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond, of Springville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Judy Marlene (Allen) Anderson, 75, of Springville, passed away at 4:22 am on Monday, March 14, 2022, at White River Lodge.

Born November 3, 1946, in French Lick, she was the daughter of Clarence and Verna (Pruett) Allen. She married Farrell B. Anderson for 28 years and he survives.

She retired from the deli department at Kroger’s in Bloomington. She loved being with her family, cookouts, listening to music and traveling with her husband.

Survivors include her husband, Farrell, of Springville; two daughters, Debbie (Gary) Warthan and Kimmy (Shane) Warthan; two step-daughters, Shawn Pritchard and Stacey Anderson; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Patsy), Morris (Susie), Cecil (Sherry), Garold (Gail), Eddie, Brion (Brenda), and Danny (Kathy); several nieces and nephews.

Donald O. Patton, 90, of Bloomington, formerly of Solsberry, passed away at 2:57 pm on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the Golden Living Center in Bloomington.

Born October 3, 1931, he was the son of Enoch and Gertie (New) Patton. He married Patricia A. Bradford and she preceded him in death on May 26, 2021.

He was an assembly worker for Ford and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Beverly Drehobl

Beverly Drehobl, 85, a long-time resident of Bedford, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, in Bend, Oregon, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Beverly was born in Cassville, Missouri, to James J. and Susan C. (Craft) Barry and grew up in southern Missouri, graduating with the class of 1954 from Ava High School.

After her family transferred to Bedford with the U.S. Forest Service, Beverly enrolled at Indiana University, graduating with a degree in Music Education in 1958. After graduation, she briefly taught in northern Indiana before meeting the love of her life, Robert Drehobl. Bob and Bev were married on January 24, 1959, at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Bedford, Indiana, and settled in Bedford.

Bev was passionate about her career as a music teacher and spent 30-years teaching music at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels in Fayetteville, Tunnelton, Shawswick, Needmore, Oolitic, and Bedford. She enjoyed teaching music, as well as performing concerts and variety shows, participating in parades, and traveling with her choir/band students and their parents at the end of the year to Kings Island.

Beverly and Bob were active members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she volunteered in many roles, including choir director, Marriage Encounter, the Church Ladies, and at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. Bev also loved spending time with her grandchildren, traveling the US and internationally, and creating crafts of all types for the enjoyment of those who knew her.

After Bob passed away in 2021, Bev moved to Bend, Oregon, to live near her daughter. Although she missed her friends from Bedford, she enjoyed living near family and quickly became involved in the retirement community where she lived in Bend. She loved day trips in the mountains and dining outside along the river. Even though Bev was unable to walk for the last few years, she lived life to the fullest until the very end.

Surviving to cherish Beverly’s memory are one daughter, Theresa (Bill) Mason of Bend, OR; two sons, Steve (Dawn) Drehobl of Phoenix, AZ, and Mike (Kristy) Drehobl of Milwaukee, WI; six grandchildren, Bryce Mason and Elissa Sander, Michael and Emma Drehobl, and Jacob and Erin Drehobl; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one brother, James J. Barry.

Funeral services will be at 9:00 AM Monday, March 21, 2022, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Bedford, Indiana, with Father Jegan Peter and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial at Cresthaven Memory Gardens will immediately follow.

Robert Edward Bartley, 79, of Springville, passed away at 6:30 am on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at I.U. Health Hospice House.

Born September 3, 1942, in Bedford, he was the son of Maurice Edward and Martha Louise (Huff) Bartley. He married Isis Eileen Smith and she survives.

He had worked in the warehouse for Thomson Consumer Electronics/RCA. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and was an avid sports fan and gardener.

Survivors include his wife, Isis, of Springville; a son, John Thomas, of Florida; one grandson, John Edward Bartley; several step-children; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Kathy Stonestreet-Bartley; a daughter-in-law, Janese Bartley; a step-daughter, Cathy Roll; a brother, Tom Bartley; a grandson, Chad Flynn; a son-in-law, Bill Flynn; a great-grandson (in infancy).

Kathleen Marie (Schumacher) Combs, 89, of Owensburg, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022 at IU Health University Hospital.

Born January 8, 1933, in Crete, Illinois, she was the daughter of John G. and Eva Marie (Tempest) Schumacher. She married Billy A. Combs on May 1, 1987, and he survives.

Kathleen was a graduate of Bedford High School class of 1951, retired from the Crane Commissary where she worked as a cashier for many years, a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church, the Owensburg Euchre Club, and the Hillbilly’s Clan #16.

Kathleen was a force, sassy, full of life for 89 years, loved adventure, and living each day to the fullest. She loved flowers, people, playing cards, making cobblers, pies, and cookies. She was a neat lady and a great neighbor who will be dearly missed.

Surviving to cherish Kathleen’s memory are her husband, Billy Combs; daughters, Ginny Hanson (Paul) Thompson, Beth Hanson (David) Roberts, and Amy Hanson (Phil) Thorne; step daughter, Debbie Burlingame; grandchildren, Neil (Shannon Richardson) Hanson, Jimmy Hanson, Rosie (Donald) Rector, Leigh (Shane) Roberts, Cari (Josh) Helms, Ben (Alexandra) Roberts, Emily (Johnny Kauffman) Roberts, Lindsey (Nick) Tyree, Abby (Derek) George, and Caleb (Jacy) Thorne; step-grandchildren, Jada Stump and Levi Runnells; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Col. Norman Darrell Mundy, 78, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Loogootee Nursing Center.

Born January 24, 1944, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George and Blanche (King) Mundy. He married Charlotte Marie Williams December 31, 1983.

Norman retired from National Gypsum. He was a 1962 graduate of Huron High School, and a member of the Fairview Church of Christ, and Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2442. Norman was a former member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.&A.M. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, fishing, playing cards, and was an avid IU basketball fan. Norman loved his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Marie Mundy of Loogootee; children, Tracy Rochelle Mundy Winkler of Mitchell, Tricia Marie Mundy Hodges of Mitchell, Trent Norman (Sandra) Mundy of Davenport, Iowa, Laura (Dane) Barber of Glendale, Corey Ivey of Tell City; mother of his children, Sharon Mathews of Huron; grandchildren, Kristen (José) Lara, Joey (Anna) Hodges, Morgane (Tyler) Embree, David (Kalyn) Embree, Logan (Cilla) King, Travis (Samantha) Alsman, and Angel (Zach) Clifton; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Jean Tolbert of Williams, James Stanley Mundy of Mitchell; several nieces and nephews.

Richard “Rick” Gardner Corwin, Jr., 77, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born June 29, 1944, in Richmond, Kentucky, to Richard Corwin, Sr. and Rose Hampton Corwin. He married Kathy Dalton on March 20, 1993, and she survives.

Rick was a U.S. Air Force veteran and of the Baptist faith. He retired from the Quality Control division of the Dana Corp. in Mitchell.

Surviving to cherish Rick’s memory is his wife, Kathy; stepchildren, Leslie Holland, Dani Jo (Todd) Hovey and Sam (Kim) Holland; six grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Linda.

Deloris Marie Pridemore, 85, formerly of Huron, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born March 28, 1936, in French Lick, she was the daughter of Delbert and Mildred “Marie” (Kimble) Hopper. She married Robert Linza Pridemore August 20, 1954, and he preceded her in death March 26, 1995.

Deloris was a homemaker and a member of the Huron Baptist Church. She was a cheer leader, class secretary, and a 1954 graduate of Huron High School. Her family was her life and she enjoyed being with her family and taking long country cruises.

Surviving are her children, Angela (Charles) Blanton of Mitchell, Robert D. Pridemore of Mitchell, Annette Pridemore of Mitchell; grandchildren, Joni (Darin) Wallot, Erica (Nick) Doss, Grace (Bobby) Bunch, Bobby (Elizabeth) Blanton, Tim Pridemore, Nate (Shannon) Pridemore, and Nick (Merry) Pridemore; 25 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren.

Carolyn Jane “Janie” Robinson, 59, formerly of Mitchell and Bedford, Indiana, passed away at her home at 2:26 p.m. March 7, 2022.

Born September 19, 1962, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Charles and Karen (Tuddy) Turner.

She was a registered nurse and worked in Bedford and Paoli hospitals, nursing homes, and home health most of her life. She loved caring for others. She was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Assembly in Bedford, Indiana. She traveled to Texas once to pray for a little boy with cancer. She loved horses and raised several. She was a homemaker, sister, mother, daughter, aunt, grandmother, and friend to many. Her biggest joy in life was her grand babies.

Bernadette M. “Mickey” Hamilton, 77, of Bedford, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022, at Stonebridge Health Campus, she had resided there for ten years and received exceptional care.

She was born June 17, 1944, in Peoria, Illinois, to Herbert and Bernadine Butler Hamilton.

Mickey was a participant of the LARC Center, worked for 18 years at Long John Silver’s and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She loved cruising with her favorite nephew, Jeff, in his convertible and going for ice cream. She also loved doing embroidery work and playing Bingo and Nickle Pitch with all of her friends at Stonebridge.

Surviving to cherish Mickey’s memory is her sister, Mary Jo Williams of Bedford; niece, Angie Williams of Bedford; nephew, Jeff Williams of Bedford; great nephew, Donavan Sage; aunt, Barbara Butler; and several cousins.

Preceding Mickey in death were her parents; and her twin sister, Mary Hamilton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Jegan Peter and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Frances Louise (Garrison) Lewis, 98, of Bedford, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday March 6, 2022, at 12:43 pm. She was at her home with her family by her side.

Born February 13, 1924, in French Lick, Indiana, she was the daughter of Fred and Ona Garrison. She married Robert Lewis on July 25, 1946, at the First church of God in Bedford and he preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of French Lick High School and was a homemaker. She was the center of her family as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Frances and her family attended the Bedford First Church of God. She so enjoyed serving the Lord her whole life, being active in her Sunday School class and a favorite was running the “country store” with Bob and their church friends each year at the church bazaar.

Frances dearly loved her entire family and always led and taught by example. Very close to her was her sister, Evelyn Leonard, who she truly loved and has always kept close with through the years. Also surviving is a very close cousin, Velta (Bob) Lashbrook, of Orleans; her children, Darlene Parker and Kevin Lewis, both of Bedford; grandchildren, Allen (Molli) Parker, of Beech Grove, Jo Ellen (Sam) Holland, of Bedford, and Brett (Lindsey) Parker, of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Jo Parker, Paul Hayden Parker, Sammy Dale Holland, Paul Jackson Parker, Kolton Brock Parker, Jay Robert Holland, Kasen Isaiah Parker, Mallory Frances Holland, Brycelyn Yost, Karingtyn Yost, and Branson Yost; great-great-grandchildren, Hunter, Russell, and Ruby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son-in-law, Dan Parker.

Linda had been a caregiver for home health. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren, and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Yolanda D. Andis age 73 of Bedford passed away on Sunday March 6, 2022 at 12:45 Am at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.

She was born in Bedford on July 27, 1948 to Ernest Jenkins and Dorothy (Hawkins) Jenkins. She had previously been a factory worker before becoming disabled.

Survivors include one daughter, Terri (Bruce) Miller of Bedford; two sons, Edward Andis of Bedford and Kevin (Lora) Andis of Springville; one brother, Jerry (Teresa) Jenkins of Bedford; one sister, Barbara of Bedford; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Yolanda was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Edward Jenkins.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday March 8, 2022 at Dive Cemetery, with Donnie Sanders, officiating.

Gordon Dean Canada, 82, of Bedford, passed away on March 3, 2022, at his residence in Bedford.

Born on August 29, 1939 in Bedford, he was the son of the late Fred O. and Lucille (Davis) Canada. Gordon married the love of his life Mary Kern on June 17, 1961, she survives.

Gordon was the owner of Canada’s Body Shop for numerous years. He was a member of New Union Christian Church, absolutely enjoyed watching NASCAR and working on cars. His kind heart and soul that he showed to his friends, family and anyone he met, will forever be remembered.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Rick (Pam) Canada of Oolitic, Shelley (Donnie) Silvers of Bedford, and Christy (Tony) Sproles of Moweaqua, IL; grandchildren, Ryan (Stephanie) Canada, Aaron Silvers, Tana Marshall, Joey (Lindsey) Silvers, Vanessa Canada, Tad (Alana) Canada, Jaylyn Sproles, and Gracie Sproles; along with ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother Jim (Brenda) Canada and sisters; Wanda Mae Tincher, Judy Bell, and Phyllis Stout; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Born January 8, 1924, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Stanley and Lottie (Harp) Spoonmore. She married Donald R. Wilson on September 10, 1946, and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1998.

She had been a volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital, and had worked for several years as a receptionist for dentists in Bloomington and Dalton, GA. She was a member of the Heartland Church of Christ in Greenwood. She graduated from Springville High School in 1942. She enjoyed her church, traveling, talking to her friends on Facebook, taking mission trips to Jamaica, and being with her family and friends.

Survivors include a brother, Carl Spoonmore, of Springville; two sons, Ken Wilson (Linda), of Indianapolis and Mark Wilson (Julie), of Temple, GA; a daughter-in-law, Janice Wilson, of Hephzibah, GA; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Ron; sisters, Fern Bolton and Nellie Clements; a brother, Paul Spoonmore.

Annetta enjoyed gardening, flowers, animals and fishing. She was a 1967 graduate of Tunnelton High School.

She had been an aide at Shawswick School and Madden School for several years. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ, the Quarry Quilters Club, and Air Streamers Club. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends.

Timothy S. “Reaper” Morrow, Sr., 54, of Springville, passed away peacefully at 8:05 pm on Monday, February 28, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born November 4, 1967, in Bedford, he was the son of Jason and Janet (Andis) Morrow. He married Lori Phillips in December 2021. He retired from the U.S. Army and the railroad. He was a proud American and patriot, serving two tours in Afghanistan. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and was vice-president of the Scallywags Motorcycle Club. He loved his family and his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed guns and farming and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Lori; a daughter, Courtney Morrow; a son, Timothy Morrow, Jr.; his mother, Janet Morrow; three sisters, Anita (Joe) Kurucz, Jo Ann Webb, Sarah (Jason) Johnson; nieces and nephews, Joey, Lacey, and Amy Kurucz, Tyler, and Bryce Webb, Liam and Amelia Johnson; cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of relatives.

Evelyn May Skirvin Stivers, 83, of Solsberry went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 11, 1939 in Bloomington, Indiana to Reverend William H. and Emmamay Ellen Naylor Skirvin.

Evelyn graduated from Bloomington High School in 1957. She married Morris Owen Stivers on August 30, 1957 at her father’s Baptist church in Bloomington. Together they had six children. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Evelyn attended Stanford Baptist Church for 35 years. She accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior as a child and shared her testimony for the rest of her life. She was a faithful servant and loving example of Christ’s love to all those around her.

Evelyn was a homemaker when her children were at home and later worked at Indiana University and Stanford Post Office. She retired in 2011.

Evelyn was proceeded in death by her parents, her sons, Morris O. Stivers, Jr and Bob Stivers, son-in-law, Paul Mullis, sister Dorothy Plaisted, great-great grandchild Aiden Keith Hobbs and great-nephew Hunter Brown.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Morris O. Stivers, Sr., her children, Audrey (Steve) Edington of Bloomington, Robin Stivers of Bedford, Tim (Debbie) Stivers of Linton and Dan Stivers of Bedford. Her grandchildren, Missy Hodge, Jamie Bixler, Rick Stivers, Tim Stivers, Jr, Brian Mullis, Owen Stivers, and Josh Stivers. Her sister, Jeanne Skirvin (Rick) Harris and special nieces Amy Fletcher, Krystal Miller and Rachel Williams and many cherished great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Dawneen E. Hall, 76, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away surrounded by her children, at 10:46 p.m. at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana.

She was born January 28, 1946 in North Freedom, Wisconsin to the late Clarence J. and Louise (Meyers) Rogney.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She loved traveling, trap shooting, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and her visits with Brother Lyman Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Galand Rogney; two half- brothers; and the mother of her heart, Betty Iverson.

Dawneen is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Steve) Arvin of Loogootee, Annee (Jason) Fish of Bedford, and son Tony (Amy) McGlocklin of Nashville; Grandchildren, Harrison (Krista Blevins)Fleetwood, Alexzandra (Jordan Hottell)Fleetwood, Ashton Fish, Eli Fish, Tyler (Jamie Hodges)McGlocklin, Taylor McGlocklin, Brayton (Nikolay Verevkin)Arvin, Cole (Jade) Arvin, Wade (Kyanna) Arvin, Nicole Arvin; and 12 great-grandchildren; and the family of her heart, David Iverson(Dad), Denise (Iverson) Gertsch, Kaye (Iverson) Larson, Jim Iverson, Lana (Iverson) Christoffel, Rita(Iverson) Vetterli, and Curt Iverson. She is also survived by sisters; Emma Weibel, Nyla Barreau, and brother; Gary Rogney.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 9:00am – 11:00am with service at 11:00am at the Bedford Baptist Temple conducted by Pastor Lyman Taylor.

Dawneen’s wish was cremation; therefore a private family burial will be conducted at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Loogootee, Indiana following the services.

Nancy Jean Lane Sallade

Nancy Jean Lane Sallade, 87, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022, in Bedford.

She was born January 23, 1935, in Evansville, Indiana, to Jesse A. and Edna C. Fields Lane. She married George J. Sallade on April 17, 1952, and he preceded her in death on February 25, 2007.

Nancy was a graduate of Evansville Reitz High School. She loved American history, traveling and gardening. In earlier years, she became skilled in the violin. Nancy’s family was the center of her world and for most of her life, she was the loving matriarch and domestic engineer.

Surviving to cherish Nancy’s memory are her daughters, Jeanne S. (Mark H.) Criswell of Indianapolis, Ann Maxwell (Jeff Riegel) of Lawrence County and Elizabeth E. (Tom) Scholtes of Westfield; sons, George Christopher (Lisa) Sallade of Bedford and John Allen (Tammy) Sallade of New Palestine; grandchildren, Hannah Harris, Caleb Denney and Jarrod Sallade; and great grandchildren, Brielle, Darrell, Penelope, Theo and Alice.

Preceding Nancy in death were her parents; husband, George; brothers, John “Jack” Lane and Donald J. Lane; and sister, Elizabeth Lane.

Funeral services for Nancy will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford. Burial will follow in Lowder Cemetery, Springville, IN. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.

Paula Maureen Schuley

Paula Maureen Schuley, 75, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Monroe Hospital.

Born November 14, 1946, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Paul and Sarah (Ratliff) Abel. Paula married Charles Schuley March 31, 1966.

Paula had been a homemaker. She was a member of the Bryantsville Church of Christ for many years and currently a member of Work of God Church. She loved gardening and flowers. Paula especially loved spoiling her grandkids. She was a great Mom and Grammy.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Schuley of Bedford; daughter, Janet (James) Heil of Boyd, TX; grandchildren, Ashley Hoffman, Rachael Heil, Levi Heil, and Stephanie Heil; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Heil, Ellia Hoffman, Charles Hoffman, Copelynn Heil, and James Hoffman; sister, Judith Abel of Portage.

Her parents; son, David Edward Schuley; and siblings, Richard Abel and Linda Edwards preceded her in death.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 1:00pm at Chastain Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be at Bryantsville Cemetery.

Rita K. Norman

Rita K. Norman, 91, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

Born July 12, 1930, in Heltonville, she was the daughter of Theodore and Nettie Katherine (Eddington) Lantz. She married Ervin Norman in 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1988.

She retired as a case cleaner from General Motors. She was a member of the Heltonville Christian Church and enjoyed gardening and watching birds and squirrels. She was one of a kind and one of the strongest women you would ever meet.

Survivors include a son, Rick (Debbie) Norman, of Bedford; five grandchildren, Laura (Trent) Niflis, Drew (Amanda) Norman, Dylan (Mikayla) Norman, and Lisa (Jack) Hunt; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Lantz, of Bedford, Danny (Sherry) Lantz, of TX, and John Lantz, of IL; four sisters, Jean Ryan, of Oolitic, Karen Christl, Pamela (Eddie) Gonzelez, and Teddi Glenn, all of IL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Randy Norman; a daughter, Jennifer Norman; a grandson, Ronnie Rainey.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 5th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Kenneth L. Manion, Sr.

Kenneth L. Manion, Sr., 86, of Oolitic, passed away at 4:05 pm on February 27, 2022, at his residence.

Born June 5, 1935, in Oolitic, he was the son of Roy and Gladys (Vaughn) Manion. He married Bobbie Ann Brandenburg and she survives.

He retired from the U.S. Army. He worked for the Tulsa Sheriff’s Department then served as the Chief of Police in Glenpool, OK. Later, he started Professional Security Systems and lastly, he worked at the Fayetteville Store. He was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church, Gillen Post #33 American Legion, and Patriot Lodge #250 F & AM in Oolitic.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Ann, of Oolitic; four children, Kenneth L. Manion, Jr. and wife, Kathleen, of Sapulpa, OK, Diane Ritter-Baker, of Tulsa, OK, Christine Boos and husband, David, of Broken Arrow, OK, and Steven Manion and wife, Jessica, of Tulsa, OK; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harold “Bearcat”, Morris, and Marvin; a sister, Louise Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 3rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Millard Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 2nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Marion R. Tincher

Marion R. Tincher, 78, of Avoca, passed away at 8:16 pm on Friday, February 25, 2022.

Born December 7, 1943, in Linton, he was the son of Leonard and Elsie (Martindale) Tincher. He married Irma Gayle Lee on June 8, 1962, and she preceded him in death on November 13, 2017.

He retired as a die maker for General Motors and attended Grace Baptist Church in Springville. He was a devoted husband who loved his family.

Survivors include two sons, Brad Tincher and wife, Gayla, and Alan Tincher and wife, Angie, all of Springville; grandchildren, Heather Lynn and husband, Mark, Kelli Heil and husband, Andrew, Alana Miller and husband, Jacub, Alyssa Tincher, Aubrey Lynn, Asher Lynn, Charlotte Heil, Shelby Heil, and Cecil Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three brothers, Ronald, Chester, and Larry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, March 4th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bob Phillips officiating. Florence L. Canada Carey

Florence L. Canada Carey, 101, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Born February 17, 1921 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Welker and Luanna (Wagoner) Wright. She married Reverend Frank Canada September 14, 1936 and he preceded her in death February 7, 1978. Her second marriage was to Everett N. Carey who also preceded her in death.

Florence was a homemaker and a member of the Orleans Church of the Nazarene. She was a Godly woman and the best mother and grandmother ever. Florence loved her family, church, caring for flowers, and playing bingo. She and her husband, Frank used to renovate and rent houses.

Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Lou (Larry) McNabb of Mitchell; grandchildren, Greg (Richelle) Onley, Marsha (Kenny) Edwards, Don (JoDeana) McNabb, Michelle (Jeff) Scholl, Jeff (Marissa) Canada, and Jill and Jan; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Her parents; husbands; sons, Jerry Lee Canada and in childhood, Brenda’s twin brother, Roger Franklin Canada; and siblings, Mary Madgeline Craig, Ralph Wright, Ora Wright, Cora Mowie, Novella Wagner, Hazel Miles, Edith Hackler, Merlin Sipes and Opal Sipes preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Jerry Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Silverville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
