Mary “Willy” Smith
June 08, 1929 — July 25, 2021
Mary Willoudene “Willy” (Mercer) Smith, 92, died Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Although Willy had been in poor health for several years, her death was unexpected, yet peaceful from pneumonia.
Willy was born June 8, 1929 in Livingston Tennessee to Sam and Gertrude Mercer. She married Glen Osby Smith on May 15, 1949. Willy and Glen had two children, a daughter Marcia and son Darrell. They lived their married life in Henry and Rush counties.
After Willy retired from DuWell in Morristown, she and Glen moved to Williams, Indiana in the late 1980s. Once retired, Willy enjoyed traveling all over southern Indiana watching and listening to Glen play bluegrass music. When home, she enjoyed frying fish Glen caught in the river, growing, cooking and eating vegetables from her garden, and doing word puzzles. They returned to Rush County about five years ago.
Willy is survived by her husband of 72 years, Glen Smith, her daughter, Marcia Roll of New Castle, a brother, Paul (Nikki) Mercer of Lewisville, nine grandchildren: Steven Fleming of Evansville, Janelle (Daniel) Miner of Evansville, Bill (Emily) Policella of Michigan, Daryl (Susan) Jones of Carmel, Jodie (Jason) Lorton of New Castle, Trina (Jason) Summers of Georgia, Bryana (JD) Hasz of Ohio, David (Angie) Smith of Alabama, and Kevin (Rachel) Smith of Orlando, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and many other much loved family members.
Willy was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Gertrude Mercer, her in-laws, Coy and Mallie Smith, her son, Darrell Smith, sisters, Anna Thompson, Barbara Lowhorn and Suda Gunter, and brothers, RD Mercer, Earl Mercer, Carey Mercer, and Dale Mercer.
Graveside services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday July 30, 2021 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Danny Ray Bennett, 67, of Bedford died at 4:46 am on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the Westview Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born March 4, 1954, in Bedford, he was the son of Fred D. and Beulah F. (Williams) Bennett. He married Tiffanie Wray on November 17, 2007, and she survives.
Danny graduated from Mitchell High School with the class of 1972. He worked as a welder and leadman for Manchester Tank retiring in 2016 after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Bono United Methodist Church, a member of the Medora Masonic Lodge #328. He enjoyed farming, coon hunting, and NASCAR. Danny’s favorite time holiday was Christmas, he loved decorating and always tried to be the first to have his Christmas tree up.
Survivors include, his wife Tiffanie of Bedford; a daughter, Mandy Flinn and her husband Josh of Tunnelton; a step daughter, Jordan McCloud and her husband Darren of Bedford, a grandson, Dylan Flinn of Tunnelton; two step-grandsons: Riley Reynolds and Chris McCloud of Bedford; three sisters: Barbara Howell and her husband Dick of Tunnelton, Linda Rainey and her husband Jack of Bedford, Rita Horner and her husband Mike of Leesville; his first wife Sandy (Daulton) Bennett of Tunnelton; four nieces; several cousins, and his best friend, Rick Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Fred Eugene in infancy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 pm on Monday, August 2nd, 2021, with Rick Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Roberta Irene (Thomas) Herald, 95, passed away at 7:28 pm, Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born March 16, 1926 in Trinity Springs, IN, she was the daughter of Arthur Thomas and Arminta (Akles) Rush. She married Eulas Herald and he preceded her in death. Roberta was a homemaker.
Life was a highway for Roberta. She enjoyed long rides and would often say “I’ll go wherever the open road takes me.” She loved sports, game shows, and the news. Family was most important, she especially loved her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Linda Eernisse (Allen) of Solsberry, Ruthann Floyd (Fred) of Bloomfield, Susie Price (Larry) of Solsberry and Brett Herald (Shirley Smith) of Owensburg; nine grandchildren, Barbie Pearcy (Mark), Marlene Plummer (Dustin), Matt Floyd, Michael Floyd (Cris), Megan Herald, Jed Herald, Melissa McDonald (Tim), Eric Price (Renae) and Leslie Price; Fourteen great-grandchildren; her caretaker, Wanda Nicholson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Noon on Saturday, July 31, 2021 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Owensburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m until the hour of service on Saturday at the mortuary.

Alyshia Noel Callahan

Alyshia Noel Callahan, Age 30, of Bloomington, IN died on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, IN. She was born on December 20, 1990 to Sandra (Don) Gunderman and Trace (Jodi) Callahan, who all survive.
She was a graduate of Edgewood High School Class Of 2009. She was a hard worker with a Big-kid like personality and a contagious smile for everyone she met. She often enjoyed going to the races, camping, and working on puzzles of all kinds as well as spending time with friends and family, especially her nieces (Aryanna and Zoey) and nephews (Damion and Alex) who all survive.
Alyshia was courageous and unbelievably strong during her Illness. She faced it head-on with a smile on her face and a positive spirit throughout her journey. She will be deeply missed.
She is lovingly remembered by her parents, grandparents Conrad and Velma Callahan, Betty Johnson, Emma Chandler, DJ Murphy and Dee Vermilion. Her siblings Amelia Callahan, Aimee (Jeremy) Crail, Donovan Gunderman, Melissa Gunderman, Heather Laakman, Timothy (Hannah) Laakman, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Walter E Johnson, Jerry Chandler and Ora Vermillion.
Visitation will be at Day & Carter Funeral Home in Bedford, IN on Monday Aug 2nd, 2021, from 12-2PM with graveside service following at 3PM.

Chuck was a graduate of Elwood High School, class of 1975, and attended I.U., Bloomington, for three years. He was retired and had worked in retail and auto sales and as a caseworker at Stonebelt in Bedford and Bloomington. He was a member of the American Legion, Sons of Legion, and a former Jaycee.
Surviving to cherish Chuck’s memory are his mother, Carol Shawhan of Elwood; daughter, Jordan (Matt) Hatfield of Bedford; grandchildren, Maddyn and Cale Hatfield of Bedford; sister, Cheryl (Todd) Nichols of Elwood; nephews, Kyle (Tiffany) Nichols and Zachary (Lexie) Nichols, both of Noblesville; and aunts, Clarice Cornwell of Elwood and Joanne (Eletta) Case of Bonita Springs, Florida.

Betty L. Reynolds, 83, of Bedford, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021. She was born July 30, 1938, in Lawrence County to Clarence Arthur and Mary Frances (Mason) Bradford. She married Jerry L. Reynolds on April 28, 1956, in Bedford and he survives.
Betty met her husband, Jerry L. Reynolds, in Junior High and they were married for 65 loving years. She worked at RCA and then was a homemaker for 13 years. She worked at M Fines for 20 years. She loved her family more than anything. Her favorite saying was “Families are Forever”. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She touched so many lives. She attended Bedford High School and the Church of God.
Surviving to cherish Betty’s memory are her husband; daughter, Pam Osborn of Bedford; son, David (Joy) Reynolds of Bedford; grandchildren, Brian Grissom, Jonathon Reynolds, Jace (Jennifer) Reynolds, Heath (Jolene) Osborn and Blake Osborn; great-grandchildren, Logan, Landon, Layton, Lawson and Liam Grissom, Juliana and Jillian Reynolds and Oliver and Miles Osborn; sister, Peggy J. Miller of Bedford; and brother-in-law, Don Patton.

Roy Eugene “Rick” VanMeter

Roy Eugene “Rick” VanMeter, 68, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021, at his home.
Born May 8, 1953, in Mitchell, he was the son of Margaret VanMeter. He married Renata Lynn Hoggatt December 16, 1983, and she preceded him in death July 18, 2020.
Rick retired from the military with 27 ½ years of service. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of the Indiana National Guard. He drove the tank that sits in front of the Bedford Armory from Camp Atterbury, or so that’s what the family was told. Rick was inducted into Hoosier Heroes and Heroines. After retirement, he worked auctions for Kinser and Robinson.
He spent a lot of time with Toys for Tots and was very active in community service. He liked fishing and took a lot pride in his lawn.

Matthew Kesterson, 69, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born August 3, 1951, in Paoli, he was the son of Samuel Grant and Alta Belle (McPherson) Kesterson. He married LaDonna Gayle Wilson August 9, 1969.
Matthew retired from Regal Beloit and Marathon Electric. He attended Paoli Commuity Schools. Matt’s family was the pride of his life.

Frances Joan Gerkin, 88, of Orleans, passed away at 2:27 AM on July 27, 2021 at Paoli Health and Living Community.
She was born May 1, 1933 in Orleans, IN, the daughter of Olan and Ruth B. (Boone) Strange. She married Franklin Gerkin on May 25, 1951 and he preceded her in death on November 11, 1999.
She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Orleans. She graduated from Mitchell High School, class of 1951. She served as a loyal farm homemaker all her life and enjoyed singing for the Lord.
She is survived by two sons; Lee W. Gerkin (Linda) of Orleans and Larry G. Gerkin (Joan) of Westport, IN; one brother, M. Dale Strange of Indianapolis, IN; five grandchildren, Mac, Charlie, Jay, Stewart and Heidi Jo; fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Orleans.

Loretta Joy Blubaugh, 76, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Knox Community Hospital ER.
Joy was born in Lawrence County Indiana on September 17, 1944. She was the daughter of Harvey and Esther (Jones) Staggs. She was a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville where she was a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the RCIA. She was a church “volunteer of the year” award winner, and she also was a former member of the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Lisa Brazzell, a brother, John Staggs, and a sister, Brenda Brock.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Blubaugh, three sons, Herb, Harvey, and James Asbury, a sister, Nadra Sanders, brothers, Bob and Steve Staggs, and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Luke Church, 307 N. Market St. Danville, at 11:00 a.m. Friday July 30. Father Homer Blubaugh will officiate, along with con-celebrants, Fathers Hammond and Olvera, and Deacon Tim Birie. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church.

Mildred Eloise Tarr, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at her home.
Born March 27, 1937, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Harold and Pearl (Halbert) Lindsey. She married Joseph Marvin Tarr, Sr. May 7, 1953, and he preceded her in death February 19, 1993.
Mildred retired from General Electric and had been employed at Beuler’s IGA. She was a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church and a loving mother and grandmother. Mildred was an Elvis fan.
Surviving are her children, Bob (Gloria) Tarr of Denver, Colorado, Lana (Tim) Duncan of Bloomington, Gary (Tersa) Tarr of Mitchell, Randy Tarr of Bedford, Beverly (Todd) Chastain of Mitchell, Beth Ann (Bryan) Newlin of Orleans, Sandy (Travis) Eastridge of Mitchell, Joe (Marilyn) Tarr of Bedford; son-in-law, John England of English; 30 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles (Ann) Lindsey of Mitchell, Wanda Helton of Mitchell.

Charles Louis Fiddler, Jr.
Oct. 11, 1932 — July 23, 2021
On Friday, July 23, 2021, Charles Louis Fiddler, Jr., beloved husband and father, passed away at his residence at the age of 88.
Charles Fiddler was born on October 11, 1932 in Bedford, Indiana to Louis and Juanita Fiddler. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1952, and entered the Air Force the same year. He served in Korea and was also stationed in Japan. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force and returning to Indiana, Charlie began a career in sales, ultimately becoming the Regional Sales Manager for Roper Corporation in Dallas, Texas. He married Mary Ann Inman on December 26, 1953, and they were married 67 years. They raised two sons, Steve and Scott, who now reside in Plano, Texas and Houston, Texas respectively.
Charlie was an exceptional basketball player and once scored 60 points in a single game for his base team in the Air Force. Golf became his athletic passion in his later years. He played golf in such places as Scotland and Hawaii, and all over the State of Indiana with his Bedford golfing buddies, but he was most often to be found at Otis Park Golf Course. He was twice the Bedford Super Senior Champion, and once shot 68 at Otis Park Golf Course, when he was over 70 years old. But he was best known for his smile, his sense of humor, and his life-of-the-party personality, which always made him stand out in a crowd. He was a friend to many but will be missed by all.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Louis, and his mother, Juanita. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his children Steve and Scott, and his siblings, Helen Godsey, Jack Fiddler, Brenda Yeary, Alma Lynn, Jeanette Sorrells, Ed Fiddler, Sherry Crane, and Pam Duncan, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and his two grandchildren, Matthew and Victoria.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Cresthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3522 Dixie Highway in Bedford at 2:00 o’clock p.m. Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service, with military rites performed by the Bedford American Legion, Post #33. Flowers may be sent to Cresthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bedford Recreation Foundation, Inc. 957 “J” Street, Bedford, IN 47421 in Charlie’s honor because of his love of Otis Park Golf Course.
Barbara Sue Gilmore

Barbara Sue Gilmore, 81, of Bedford, formerly of Bloomington passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at her residence.
Born, November 18, 1939 in Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Dorothy (Malicoat) Todd.
She retired as the secretary to the Dean, School of Optometry at Indiana University. She was a member of the Woodhaven Christian Church in Bloomington.
Sue was a loving mother, and grandmother who enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Robert H. “Bob” Gilmore (Stacy) of Bedford, two granddaughters, Hannah Baker (Marty Denesha), and Bailee Gilmore (Brandt Callahan), two great-granddaughters, Pyper Lintz, and Penellope Denesha, and a brother, Bud Todd.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Woodhaven Christian Church in Bloomington. Visitation will be from 2-5pm with a service at 5pm with Pastor Joe McAdams officiating.

Donna Carol Stevens, 75, of Bedford, died at 1:19pm on Monday, July 26, 2021 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.
Born August 12, 1945, she was the daughter of Hubert J. and Catherine (Kinder) Kern. She was a member of Owensburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Robinson and husband Matt of Bedford, Kelly Duncan and husband David of Bedford; five grandchildren, Brianna Duncan, Morgan Carpenter and husband Bryce, Kennedi Duncan, David Robinson, Dylan Robinson and wife Caitlyn; one great grandson, Nathaniel James Robinson; and two sisters, Jeanette Charles of Bedford, and Margie Owens and husband Jerome of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jerry Stevens Jr., and two brothers, Ray and Roy Kern.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Friday, July 30th at Dive Cemetery. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2:00 pm on Friday, July 30th at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Bettie Gene Miller, 93, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born July 21, 1928, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Willie Everett and Mae Anna (Dorsett) Edwards. She married Harold Raymond Miller August 24, 1946, and he preceded her in death August 28, 1998.
Bettie was a homemaker and a member of the Huron Baptist Church. She graduated from Huron High School in 1946. Bettie enjoyed gardening, preserving the harvest, and quilting.
Surviving are her children, David Harold Miller of Williams, Donald (Sherry) Miller of Williams, Bonnie (Mark) Qualkenbush of Orleans, Beth (Steve) Robertson of Milton, Florida; grandchildren, Shawn Qualkenbush, Misty Abner, Eric Miller, Kaydy Fults, Carrie Carpenter, and Kellyn Goodwin; 12 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by a half-brother, Joe White of Swansea, Massachusetts.
Her parents; husband; granddaughter, Shannon Qualkenbush; and siblings, George Edwards, Dorsey Edwards, Sr.; and Wanetta Ross, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor William “Skip” Mathews officiating. Burial will be Port William Cemetery.

Janet Sue Brooking, of Leesville, passed away at her home on morning of July 22, 2021. She was 77 years old.
Sue entered this life in Mitchell, Indiana on March 13, 1944. She was the loving daughter of Mary Elizabeth Stabler. Janet was a graduate of Tunnelton High School, Class of 1962.
She spent most of her life around the Ft. Ritner and Leesville area, except when she left to marry her Marine, who was stationed in California. On April 7, 1963, she married the love of her life in San Te, California, Robert ‘Bob’ Brooking. This union of over 58 years brought a son Robert Winton and a daughter Marcella Elizabeth. Bob preceded Sue on May 4, 2021.
Sue was a devoted wife, loving mother, and Grandma. She was of Christian Faith and attended Heltonville Methodist Church. She loved being a homemaker to her family. She loved quilting, cross stitching, and any stitchwork she could learn. After raising her family, she went on to be a forklift driver for Spartan, and then went to work at the Vallonia Tree Nursery. She retired after 15 years of dedication to the nursery.
She leaves those to cherish her memories, her children, Bob Brooking and his wife Tina of Brownstown, and Marcella Edwards and her husband Jim of Heltonville, grandchildren, James Cody Edwards and his wife Ashland, Bret Cory Edwards, and Kaleb Brooking, and a great-granddaughter Harley Elizabeth Edwards, and a brother Robert Stabler and his wife Wanda of Joliet, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her husband.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Tuesday at 1:00 pm July 27, 2021 at Hague Funeral Home of Medora with Pastor Larry Dalton officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her Marine at Proctor Cemetery/ Dixon Chapel

David Ray Jones, Jr., of Bedford, formerly of Medora passed away unexpectedly on July 22, 2021. He was 51 years old.
Davey entered this life on May 5, 1970, in Bedford, Indiana. He was the loving son of David Jones, Sr. and Debra (Chastain) Davis.
Davey grew up in Bedford and attended Bedford North Lawrence High School. After leaving school, Davey became a over the road truck driver, and drove a truck for Classic Trucking of Columbus for over 25 years.
He was of Christian Faith and was baptized at Medora Christian Church. Davey was a loving father and Pipaw to his cherished granddaughters. He would go through the ends of the earth for his family especially for his girls.
Davey leaves a legacy of love with his daughter, Ashley Jones-Hackney and her husband Brandon of Bedford, mother, Debra Davis and her husband Kym of Medora, and two granddaughters, Charleigh and Harper, two brothers, Brent Davis and his wife Kayia of Brownstown, and Derek Davis and his wife Megan of Brownstown.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother Joyce Jones.
Funeral Services will be held at Medora Christian Church on Monday July 26, 2021, at 2:00 pm with Pastors Stan Thomas, Rob Johnson and Reno Bates officiating.
Burial will be at Leatherwood Cemetery.

Carl E. Lyons age 81 of Bedford passed away on July 22, 2021 at 10:55 AM at his residence.
He was born on April 14, 1940 in Bedford to Hovey Lyons and Mildred (Maick) Lyons.
Carl married Sharon Stevens on November 30, 1957 and she survives.
Carl retired from General Motors as a Machine Repairman after 33 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local #440 in Bedford.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Lyons of Bedford, three children, Carl (April) Lyons, Jr. of Bedford, Judy (Rodger) Tucker of Mitchell, and Becky Lyons of Mitchell, eight grandchildren, Benjamin Lyons, Matthew Anderson, Mike Dickerson, Wendy Pemberton, Chad Nordhoff, Cory Lyons, Jason Lyons, and Saraya Lyons, thirteen great grandchildren, Austin Pemberton, Aden Pemberton, Nate Pemberton, Claire Nordhoff, Hayden Dickerson, Chase Dickerson, Marcus Carrasquillo, Jadelynn Lyons, Carson Lyons, Reece Lyons, Reid Lyons, Tony Lyons, and Emma Lyons.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Fred Lyons and nephew, Rick Lyons.

William H. “Bill” Tincher, 72, passed away at 3:16 AM on Friday, July 23rd at his home after a long, courageous battle with Prostate/Bone Cancer.
Born on July 6, 1949, in Indianapolis, IN by his birth mother, Christine Reba Lessig. He was the son of Harvey Tincher and Brownie (Yaney) Tincher. Bill married Sandra K. Super on May 7, 1971.
In 1965, Bill joined Ray and Sue Godsey’s household. During that time his love for racing was fueled. His passion for cars continued to grow as he got older, and he was the spark that started the Bedford Parks Department Annual Car Show. Aside from automobiles, he also enjoyed all things sports. Bill spent and contributed many hours volunteering with local youth teams. He was well known as a coach and umpire. He was a huge fan of IU basketball. After retiring from the City of Bedford Parks Department, he went to work part-time at Auto Zone. This is just to name a few of many contributions he made to our town.
Bill was a kind and loving man who never knew a stranger. What he was most known for was the unconditional love he had for his family.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Sandra; his children: Troy D. Tincher of Bedford, Alissa Tincher and son-in-law Shane Dorsett of Bedford; Leah Tincher of Bedford; grandchildren, Morgan, Makayla “Kayli”, Kailen, Emma, Tristen, Blayden, Rylie, Elizabeth “Libby”, Kolten, Brianna, Jasmyn, Breavin, and Eric; great-grandchildren: Augustus, Vivienne and Emersyn; one sister, Jacquelaine Gardner Cannon and her husband, Ed; nieces and nephews, Kelly and Bob Sterling, Bobby and Tova Sample, Shelly Edelman, and David and Candy Pittman.
He was preceded in death by: Harvey and Brownie; brother: Johnny Lessig and his birth mother: Christine Reba Lessig.

Christopher James “Chris” Chastain, 29, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Born October 15, 1991, he was the son of Jeffrey Chastain and Jamie (VanMeter) Chastain.
Chris was a forklift loader and operator for South West Forestry. He had received his GED and was of the Catholic Faith.
Chris was very artistic with freehand drawing, playing the guitar, song writing and poetry. His sense of humor was second to none to make you laugh and smile, even on your lowest days. He had a big heart and never hesitated to help someone out who was less fortunate.
Chris is survived by two children, Camden Davis of Seymour and Aleila Chastain of Arizona; his mother, Jamie Chastain of Paoli; two brothers, Justin (Danielle) Chastain and their children, Joslynn, Johanna, Madison and Makenna, and Aaron J (Kayleigh) Chastain and their children Addaleigh and Arraleigh; one sister, Jessa (Brian) Sorrells and their children Jaylynn, Brileigh, Emily and William; grandfather, Rick VanMeter; great-grandma Lucille Pearson; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jeff Chastain; niece, McKayla Chastain; maternal grandmother, Cathy VanMeter; paternal grandma, Ozella Arthur; maternal great grandpa, Morris Luttrell; great grand pa, Pete Pearson; and aunt, Kelly VanMeter.

Solomon Paul Davis, 63, of Bedford, passed away on July 21, 2021 at Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born on June 28, 1958 in Bedford, IN, the son of William “Bill” Davis and Frances (Eggers) May. He married Judy (Wiese) Davis and she survives.
He worked at IU campus in the heat plant as a boiler operator. He was a past member of the Eagle’s club in Bedford. Solomon loved spending time with his family, listening to county music and mowing grass.
He is survived by his wife of Bedford; four children, Julie Lindsey of Bedford, Michael Davis of Washington, Jennifer (Cody) Turpin of Bedford and Matthew Davis of Bedford; two step children, Christina Kinser of Bloomington and Danny Kinser II of Bedford; 10 grandchildren, Paisley, Benston, Huxley, Maverick, Christopher, Victoria, Emily, Alex, Cody and Danny III; one great granddaughter; four brothers, Robert “Bob” Davis of Florida, Rick Davis of Bloomington, Clyde Davis of Springville and Jerrylee May.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Reva; two brothers, Donny and John.
A Celebration of Life gathering will start at 12:00 noon on July 31, 2021 at his home at 230 Goosetown Rd. Bedford, IN 47421.

Geneva Gail (Allen) Hilleke, age 86, a native of Lawrence County, Indiana and a resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed from this life and reunited with those that have gone before her on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her family who she loved so dear.
She was born on August 13, 1934 to the late Ray B. Allen and the late Wilma Faye (Wicker) Allen. She was longtime member of Fairview Christian Church and attended Seymour Christian Church. She was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, the Seymour VFW, Eagles Club and past member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Geneva will forever be remembered as a feisty lady that loved life. She was generous to those that needed her and always approached them in a loving manner. She was extremely proud of her family and would brag on them as often as she could. She loved to crochet and made sure that her love for the art lived on in her blankets she handmade for each of her children and grandchildren. Her love for crochet was also shown in her creation of a variety of unique creations.
She loved the outdoors and working in her yard with special attention to her flowers. She loved reading and enjoying the sights of the White River where her camper would be parked. She was an amazing cook and the family will forever treasure the memory of her potato soup, broccoli casserole and 7-Up salad.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her and each life that she touched in her own special way.
Geneva is survived by her one son, Joe Hilleke and his wife Kathy of Noblesville, Indiana. Six daughters, Sarah Sparks and her husband Mike of Brownstown, Indiana, Barb Stuckwisch of Seymour, Indiana, Diana Tormoehlen and her husband Marty of Vallonia, Indiana, Mary Anders and her companion, Tim Land of Seymour, Indiana, Margaret Tormoehlen and her husband Kevin of Brownstown, Indiana and Teresa Goecker and her husband Stuart of Seymour, Indiana; her twenty grandchildren; her thirty great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren on the way. One niece, Lisa Clark of Carmel, Indiana, one nephew, Jeff Allen of Terra Haute, Indiana and her dear friend of many years and “porch buddy”, Edith Brown of Seymour, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of over 44 years, Joe Hilleke, one brother Dwight Allen, one sister-in-law Carole Allen and her companion of many years, Ed Lawson and her great grandson, Jacob Matthew Zike and son-in-law, Claude Sweeney.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre. Visitation will resume on Monday, July 26, 2021 from 9:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.

Gerald Dean Williams, 93, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.
Born January 10, 1928, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Doan and Agnes (Barlow) Williams. He was married to W. Charlene Tincher and she preceded him in death August 26, 2008.
Gerald retired from Trav-Ler Radio Corporation and General Motors. He was a member of the Mitchell First Church of God, and a 1945 graduate of Huron High School.
Surviving are his children, Danny (Julia) Williams of Mitchell, Vicki (Don) Hudson of Mitchell, Lanny Williams of Mitchell; grandchildren, Eric Garceau, Amy Manghelli, Nick Williams, Gabe Williams, and Shane Williams; 10 great-grandchildren

Carolyn S. Robertson of Bedford passed away at her home on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at the age of 73.
Born in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 26, 1947, she was the daughter of Paul and Marie Byrley. Carolyn was an optician for several years at Walmart in Bloomington. She enjoyed fishing, spending time with her kids and grandkids and serving the Lord.
Carolyn is survived by her two children, Kristal (Dave) Fry and Jeremy (Heather) Robertson, grandkids, Makaylee, Kelsey, Mia, Luke, and Maycie; sister, Ann (Rick) Blocksom and niece, Nikki Stintson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Butch Robertson and her parents.

Philip W. Morris, 69, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at his residence.
Born July 13, 1952, in Bedford, he was the son of William (Bill) and Melphia (Baker) Morris. He married Kim Fitzgerald and she survives.
He was a proud graduate of Shawswick High School with the class of 1970 and the University of Evansville where he received his batchelor’s degree. He retired as an electrical engineer from NWSC Crane.
Phil was a loving husband, father, pappy, brother, and son. He was a dedicated member of the Bedford Free Methodist Church, a volunteer and supporter at Indian Creek Baptist Camp, the Thornton Memorial Boys Club, and the Limestone Girls Club. He enjoyed working hard and serving on mission teams and for many organizations in various capacities.
Survivors include his wife, Kim, of Bedford; children, Jordan (Mindy) Morris and Bethany (Chris) Bell; their mother, Susan Gales; step-children, Ryan and Dr. Brandy Deckard, Tyler and Stacie Deckard, Evan and Cassidy Deckard; grandchildren, Bennett, Beau, and Knight Morris; step-grandchildren, Olivia Newlin, Max, Will, and Ava Deckard; Michael (Summer) Bell, Cierra (Skylar) Ashley, Hannah Bell; step-great-granddaughter, Avery Ashley; a brother, Dennis (Toni) Morris; a sister, Barb Morris; aunts, Sylvia Pritchett and Cheryl Holtz; an uncle, Marshall Baker and wife, Wanda; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara J. Cobb, 88, passed away July 19, 2021, at the home of her daughter, Brenda, of McKinney, TX.
Born August 30, 1933, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of David and Margaret (Moore) Nikirk. She married Claude Cobb on August 31, 1950, and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2015.
She worked twenty years as a human resources executive assistant for People’s Bank. She was a pastor’s wife of churches in Newark, Bedford, Battle Creek, MI, Springville, and Indianapolis. She served as a youth leader, Sunday School Teacher, choir director and PLA President. In her youth, she was proud to have never missed a day of school. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma.

Orvil “David” Reynolds, 85, of Oolitic, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born May 12, 1936 in Oolitic, he was the son of Orville Reynolds and Mabel (Roach) Reynolds. He married Barbara Taylor on June 28, 1991 in Bedford and she survives.
David was a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington and a 1955 graduate of Oolitic High School. He retired after 38 years service at the Indiana University Library and was a member of the Donica Church of God. He was formerly a member of the Oolitic Town Council.
Surviving to cherish the memory of David is his wife, Barbara; one son, Mark Reynolds; one step-daughter, Robin Holmes of Springville; and five grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Michael Reynolds.
Cremation was chosen with no services being planned at this time.

Beverly Ann Watterson Kern Martin, 80, of Bedford, died at 7:18 Sunday morning, July 18, 2021, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by family.
Born January 2, 1941, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Cecil Watterson & Bernice Starr. She married Jasper Martin on February 5, 1994, and he survives.
Bev received her GED from Bedford North Lawrence High School. She was a homemaker for most of her life. She did seasonal work and was employed at Kmart.
She was a breast cancer survivor of 20-plus years. She took up painting in her 50s and many of her works of art, patterned after Thomas Kinkade, are displayed in the homes of family and friends.
Bev loved the Lord and for many years worked with children and youth at Dive Christian Church, where she was a longtime member. Later in life, she became a member of Hillcrest Christian Church.
She liked to fish and enjoyed listening to music. Bev was on a bowling team for many years. She was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and auto racing. Bev was also a pet lover and gave a loving home to many cats and dogs through the years. Mostly, though, Bev enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband Jasper; son, Kevin (Brenda) Kern of Bedford; daughters Kelly (Gary) Houk of Silverville, and Kimberly Leeann (Jeff) Hauersperger of Bloomington; stepdaughter Vicki Schlegel of Mitchell, and stepson Randall Martin of Bedford. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Dustin (Brittany) Kern, Tara Kern, Lora Kern, Rob Kern all of Bedford, Natalie (Bryan) Banks, Nate, Dawson, and Sarah Hauersperger, all of Bloomington, and Jarrin (Pete) Ferguson of Cookeville, TN., and three step granddaughters: Jocelyn and Audrey Schlegel, both of Louisville, Ky., and Fiona Schlegel of New York, N.Y.; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, a brother who died in infancy, and a son-in-law, Bruce Cobb.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Ferguson Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, and from Noon to 1:00 pm on Friday, July 23, 2021. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm at Ferguson-Lee Chapel with Pastor Jeff Hauersperger officiating. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Leatherwood Cemetery.

Norman Grissom

Norman Grissom, 91, passed away July 14, 2021 in Palm Harbor, Florida. He was born December 19, 1929 in Mitchell, IN to Dennis and Cecile (King) Grissom.
Norman was an employee/owner of the Mitchell Tribune since his high school days. A member of the United States Army, he served in Korea during the war and earned a Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a fifty-plus year member of the American Legion Cecil C. Martin Post 250, and also a member of the Jasper, Florida VFW.
Norman served a term on the Mitchell City Council, was named a Sagamore of the Wabash, and served as president of his state editorial association.
On May 31, 1975, Norman married Becky Flick Shipman. He and Becky purchased the Mitchell Tribune in 1978 and published it until their retirement in 2003.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom, and his sister Wilma I. Grissom Beavers.
He is survived by his wife, Becky, and their children Beth Jernigan (Victor), Ginger Janda (Jeff), Christopher Shipman (Brandy); grandchildren Dylan Kahn (Trinity), Shannon Silverman, Joseph Silverman (Kai), Alex Shipman; great-granddaughter Bex Elaine Shipman; brother, Lowell Grissom (Bobette); and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Mitchell at a later date.

Jamie assisted his father as a handyman for many years and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and NASCAR.

Gladys Delite Cauble, 88, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021, at her home.
Born May 20, 1933, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Joseph Henry and Della Gladys (Connerley) Daughrity. She married Clifford Lee Cauble in 1970 and he preceded her in death July 19, 1991.
Delite retired from RCA. She was a member of the Huron Church of God and a 1952 graduate of Mitchell High School. She was an animal lover, especially cats. Delite was always very independent and wise.
Surviving are her sister, Bettie Marilyn Osborne of Mitchell; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husband; and brothers, Jesse Daniel Daughrity and Clifford Henry Daughrity, preceded her in death.

Born January 11, 1985 in Clarksville, TN, he was the son of Tim Stevens and Kelly Lynn Guthrie. He worked for Offset Printing in Charlestown. He was an avid sports fan, loyal to Indiana Hoosiers basketball and enjoyed experiencing the outdoors.
Survivors include one son, Dalton Stevens; father, Tim Stevens; grandmother, Norma Stevens; grandparents, Lew and Linda Smith; three uncles, Brent Guthrie, Lewis Smith II, and Tom Stevens; significant other, Brittney Tincher.

Marchelle D. Peyton, 60, of Windsor, VA, passed away on July 8, 2021, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her partner of 35 years, Jenny Lee Edmunds; father, Jack D. Peyton, and brother, Andrew M. Peyton.
Born and raised in Bedford, IN, she was a high school athlete competing in volleyball, basketball, and tennis, and loved summer softball. She gained a B.A. from Franklin College and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee and fight for our country’s freedom. She had a very long career after the Navy working at the Veterans Administration hospital, continuing to serve this great nation and our veterans. She loved the Lord, loved life, and had a smile that would light up any room. She loved her horses and caring for animals, rescuing many dogs, cats, and other critters over the years. She loved gardening and was not afraid of a hard days work outside or getting dirty. God rest her soul.
She is survived by her mother, Etta M. Peyton (Chambers); sister, Angela Peyton (Shelby), and stepmother, Sheila Peyton.

Donnie J. Lambrecht, 57, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021, at I. U. Health Methodist Hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1963, in Lawrence County to Paul and Iva May (Brooks) Lambrecht. He married Stefanie Vaught on Sept. 21, 1985, and she survives.
Donnie graduated from BNL, class of 1981. He was retired, having spent 34 years coaching at BNL, three years active duty in the U. S. Army and 17 years in the Army National Guard. He was a former board member of the Lawrence County 4H Fair and a member of the National Throws Coaches Association. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and playing his guitar. Donnie loved spending time with his grandchildren and coaching. He was of the Christian faith.
Surviving to cherish Donnie’s memory are his wife, Stefanie; daughter, Sarah (Craig) Morehead; son, Schuyler (Hannah Fountain) Lambrecht; grandchildren, IvyAnna and Harlan Morehead and Sadie Holler; brother, Phillip (Ruth) Lambrecht; sister, Judy Curren; nephews, Jeff (Missy) Lambrecht, Jason (Leslie) Lambrecht, Jeremy (Heather) Lambrecht, and Jan (Amy) Lambrecht, T. He was a past member of the Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church in French Lick. He graduated from Orleans High School, class of 1962. Leroy enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing and watching sports, especially golf.
He is survived by his wife of French Lick; one daughter, Nila Lockhart of French Lick; one step-son, Ron Knieriem of Paoli, IN; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim and Kenneth Sanders of Orleans; one sister, Sandra Morrison of Heltonville.
Preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leon, William, Robert and Gene and three sisters, Dorothy, Barbara and Wanda.

He was born February 10, 1937 in Clover Splint, KY, the son of James N. and Treva (Smith) Daugherty. He married Betty Daugherty and she survives.
He was a farmer and truck driver for many years. He enjoyed farming, pulling horses, coon hunting, outdoors and spending time with grandchildren. He graduated from Orleans High School, Class of 1956. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 135.
He is survived by his wife of Orleans; six children, Scott (Lora) Daugherty of Orleans, Billy (Becky) Wilkerson of Salem, Brenda (Jeff) Durham of Salem, Angie (Carl) Niece of Brunswick, Georgia, Bobby (Carol) Wilkerson of Salem and Belinda (Elvis) Collins of Tunnelton; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Daugherty (Janice) of Orleans; one sister-in-law, Shirley Daugherty of Orleans and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Silas Daugherty; one grandson, Marcus Frentz and one great grandson in infancy.

Born May 21, 1940, she was the daughter of Herbert and Vivian (Hall) Brinson. She married Paul Wade on September 15, 1956, and he preceded her in death in 2009. She married William Stanley Collins on August 20, 2011, and he survives. She was a retired line worker for RCA Thomson. She was a member of the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her husband, William, of Bedford; two sons, Leroy Wade, of Bedford and Jerry Wade and wife, Kim, of Mitchell; a daughter, Pam Melvin and husband, Randy, of Judah; six grandchildren, Krista, Jason, Angela, William, Dana, and Heather; six great grandchildren, Anna, Lia, Amelia, Elijah, Arianna, and Knox.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Paul, a sister, Sue Carol Brinson, and three brothers, Al, Ronnie, and Charles Brinson.

Joe Malcolm Stevens, 79, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born November 23, 1941, in Mitchell, he was the son of Robert B. and Mildred L. (Duncan) Stevens. He married Rita J. Kimble on November 11, 1961.
Joe worked several years at Roberts Brass before retiring after 20 plus years from Lehigh Cement Company. He was a 1959 graduate of Mitchell High School. Joe farmed most of his life. After retirement, he spent most of his time restoring tractors and going to tractor shows. Joe loved his family.
Surviving are his wife, Rita J. Stevens of Mitchell; children, Donald E. (Lisa) Stevens of Mitchell, Tammie S. (Jeremy) Hensley of Mitchell, Michael J. Stevens of Orleans; grandson, Mason Cole Hensley; three step-granddaughters; two step-great granddaughters; and four step-great grandsons; siblings, Dale L. Stevens of Columbus, Martha (Gene) Standish of Heltonville.
His parents and brother, Robert Stevens, preceded him in death.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Liberty Christian Cemetery in Orleans with Brother Jerry Allen officiating.

Marcia L. (Dalton) Ringhand, 79, of Eden, died on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at St. Agnes Hospital with her husband by her side.
She was born on November 3, 1941, in Muncie, IN, the daughter of Charles William and Ella Francis (Eggers) Dalton. She was in the Sisters of St. Francis Convent, Rice Lake, WI, studying to be a nun, and due to an illness, had to leave the convent.
On November 30, 1974, she married Darrell Ringhand at Church of Peace, Fond du Lac, WI. Marcia worked at Mercury Marine from 1969 – 1975 and went on work with her husband in outdoor amusements until 2005. Marcia and Darrell preceded to start another business in 2001, as Patriotic Star Fireworks.
Marcia loved to collect many things, especially her dishes and dolls. She loved to arrange photos.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell; three brothers, Daniel, William and Michael Dalton; aunt, Martha Craig; cousin, Myra Kendall; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ella; and two brothers; Robert and Bennie Dalton.

Born December 5, 1932, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Dewey and Pearl (Covey) Chenault. She married H Wayne Dalton, May 1951, and he preceded her in death November 1973. She married Kenneth C. Haws, December 1975, and he preceded her in death January 2019.

Roger Harold Tanksley, 89, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville.
Born September 20, 1931, in Mitchell, he was the son of Roy Noble and Ruby (Taylor) Tanksley. He married Carolyn Joyce Clouse October 7, 1952, and she preceded him in death May 3, 2017.
Roger retired from Carpenter Body Works and was a 1950 graduate of Mitchell High School. He could fix anything and enjoyed wood working, puzzles, and gardening. Roger was a member of Woodville Baptist Church and a loyal Cincinnati Reds fan.
Roger was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his children, Rogetta Kay Sinclair of Mitchell, Michael DeWayne (Marcia) Tanksley of Solsberry, Tammy Sue Evers of Mitchell, Timothy Joe (Michelle) Tanksley of Mitchell; grandchildren, Scott Sinclair, Ryan (Tasheena) Sinclair, Adam (Kristen) Sinclair, Haley (Nick) Bultman, Allyson Tanksley, Meghan Evers, and Clayton Evers; great grandchild, Nikah Sinclair; brother, Ralph (Kay) Tanksley of Mitchell.
His parents; wife; and siblings, John Raymond Tanksley, Ruth Sipes, Rowenna Elrod, Roland Tanksley, Russell Tanksley, Rex Tanksley, Ronald Tanksley and Roy Tanksley preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Glenn Hamer officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

James Lee Atkinson, 85, of Bedford Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at IU Hospice House in Bloomington, Indiana.
He was born in Paoli, Indiana on March 15, 1936, to Clarence “Hop” and Nellie Cornwell Atkinson. James married Judith Long on May 28, 1960, and she preceded him in death.
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Kelly, and Gene Atkinson.
He was a member of the Newton Stewart Lodge #432, Bedford Boat & Sportsman Club, Bedford Eagles Lodge #654, and an avid member of Fisherman & Musician.
James was in US Air Force and Korean War Veteran.
Survivors include his Son, Patrick Atkinson of Mitchell, Indiana; Grandsons, Grand Taylor Harl, Ethan Collier also survive James Lee Atkinson.
Cremation was chosen.

Alan “Al” Lee Walker
A celebration of the life of Alan “Al” Lee Walker, formerly of Bedford, will be Saturday, July 17th at 2 p.m. at the Bedford First Presbyterian Church. Music will feature the Nostalgia Band’s recordings of Martinsville – Live. Al played tenor sax in the Nostalgia Band. He also played in both the Bedford and the Bloomington Community Bands because music was the center of his life’s interests.
He died Saturday, May 23, 2020, in Spartanburg, SC where he had been living for several years. He was married to Donnera Phillips who preceded him in death November 9, 2017. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Chester (Gloria) Kasnowski of Reston, VA and Mrs. David (Elizabeth) Blumenfeld of Landrum, SC, with two granddaughters, Lura and Leiha Blumenfeld, one grandson, Jacob Blumenfeld. Other survivors include nephews, Ken and Jim Gates, Gary, Terry, and Richard Phillips, and two nieces, (who both lovingly claimed to be his favorite niece), Donna Ann Gunn and Linda Kay Tobler. Under his expansive wings of love, he included as his honorary daughters, Linda (Black) Whitted and Susan Lee, both of Lawrence/Monroe County, Jasmin Becker Langer of Germany, Bernadette Thompson Beattie and Amanda Moon Bloomfield, both of Northern Ireland.
Many remember him as one of the “Voices of the Stonecutters” in the Quarry on WBIW where he was also an ad salesman spanning the 1960s to mid-1970s. He switched to WUME for Paoli sports and advertising for several years. He loved the (current) West Baden Springs Hotel and jumped at the opportunity to serve as a college recruiter and teacher when it operated as Northwood Institute. For a period of time he served as Bedford Chamber of Commerce director, then settled into running the Owls Nest and co-owning the Jug Store until opting for total retirement.
Mr. Walker served as a Bedford First Presbyterian Church elder and its tenor in the choir sharing puns with anyone who would listen. He was a member of the Bedford Lodge #14 F&AM, a former Lawrence County Democratic Party Chairman, a former congressional campaign manager, acted and directed in Bedford Little Theater and The Orange County Players. For a number of years, he was an active boater and member of the Power Squadron. He also was a US Air Force Reservist and the Army National Guard at Bedford’s Armory.
He loved to travel, but always considered Colorado as Heaven-on-Earth. He loved history, visiting Civil War battlefields with friends, creating motorcycle trips to abandoned railroad trails and ghost towns in Colorado. One of his favorite motorcycle trips was “Around the World in Indiana” where he led people to Hoosier towns with foreign country’s names. He and Donnera shared that love for motorcycling, exploring, seeing all 50 state capitols, visiting Northern Ireland, the UK and Germany. Most likely, he’s already mapping a tour of heaven.
Graveside services will be Saturday, July 17th at 10:30 a.m. at the Bristow Cemetery in Bristow, Perry County, IN.

Haden Crane, 91, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at I. U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
He was born in Tunnelton on August 24, 1929, to Charles and Lula (Sipes) Crane. He married Wanda Gale Ollis on August 6, 1948, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 2018.
Haden graduated from Tunnelton High School, class of 1947, and was a U. S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service.
Haden was a member of the First Baptist Church and a former ordained deacon at White River Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, watching the grandchildren in various sports.
Surviving to cherish Haden’s memory are his two daughters, Beth Anne (Tom) Harrell and Sharon Crane; one son, Alan (Kim) Crane; three grandchildren, Josh (Caroline) Harrell, Sara (Brice) Templeton and Aaron (Mandy) Harrell; five great-grandchildren, Aliza and Haden Templeton and Jay, Rosemary and Rhett Harrell; four step-grandchildren, Tony (Catherine) Furlin, Troy (Danielle) Furlin, Tara (Dan) Sisler and Tyler Furlin; seven step-great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Blake, Cole and Owen Furlin and Noah, Maddie and Layla Sisler with Sisler #4 due in December.
Preceding Haden in death were his parents; wife; six brothers, Herman, Audrey, Roy, Ray, Harley and Edwin; and two sisters, Lois and Una Mae.
Services for Haden will be on Monday, July 12, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor Lee Brown officiating. Burial will be in White River Baptist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by members of American Legion Gillen Post #33. Visitation will be Sunday, July 11th, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel.

Phillip A. “Tater” Tatom, 70, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at his residence. Born in Bedford on Sept. 23, 1950, he was the son of Henry and Jean (Sanders) Tatom.
Phillip graduated from Bedford High School, class of 1969 and was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, retiring from the Army in 1971. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Gillen Post #33 of Bedford, Boys Club Board of Directors and Vietnam Veterans of Lawrence County. He was a former president of Scenic Hills Camp and a volunteer at Parkview School for over 20 years.
Surviving to cherish Phillip’s memory are two brothers, David Tatom of Bloomington and Henry (Barbara) Tatom of Bedford; one sister, Connie (Dennis) Bergman of Bedford; two stepsisters, Patricia (Gary) Bolton of Georgia and Marsha King of Bedford; two stepbrothers, David Cogan of Bedford and Tom (Lynne) Colgan of England; one stepdaughter, Angel Holmes of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Phillip was preceded in death by his mother; father; and stepmother, Marjorie Tatom.
Services for Phillip will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Bedford with Pastor Jeff Hudelson officiating. Norris (Layne) Reynolds, 82, of Springville, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at his residence.
Born May 28, 1939, he was the son of Raymond and Esther (Davis) Reynolds. He was a graduate of Oolitic High School with the class of 1957. As a young man, he was an avid hunter and hard worker. He worked at Victor Oolitic Stone and at Pal Deckard Ford as a service manager. In 1983, he left Stone City Construction after 40 years and concentrated full-time on his excavating business, Reynolds Excavating in Lawrence County and surrounding area. He was a member of Operating Engineers #181.
On February 14, 1981, he married the love of his life, Julia VanTine and they recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. As a couple, they were members of the Avoca Baptist Church and more recently, attended the Popcorn Christian Church. Together, they worked his business and shared a passion for antique tractors, especially Allis-Chalmers. He restored many through the years, including his childhood tractor. He and his tractor family and friends participated in many parades and tractor shows all around. He was a member of Tri-County Tractors and Allis-Chalmers (AC) Partners and attended the gathering of the Orange. He also took part in the Elnora Antique Tractor Show, displaying 10-12 tractors for the past 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Julia; a sister, Connie Jackson (Steve), of Florida; children, Norris Gene Reynolds (Catherine), of Bloomington, Loretta Kay Denny (Perry), of Bedford, Jenny Lynn Reynolds, of Mitchell; step-daughters, Teresa Fillingim and Susan Leaty, both of Bedford; grandchildren, Eric England (Michelle), of Bedford, Shari Mullins (Randy), of Martinsville, Sommer Hilderbrand (Sam), of Columbus, Trent Fillingim, Branagan Leaty, Burgundee Leaty, Cutler Leaty and Jerrika Smoot (Blake), all of Bedford, Amanda White, of Mitchell, Bill Denny (Misty), of Terre Haute, Wes Denny (Jealesa), of Gentryville, Brian Denny, of Fontanet, Caitlin Martin and Robert Martin, both of Pennsylvania; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gerald and Roger; a sister, Christina Miller (Ron); a grandson, Steven Whitner.

Layne loved his hometown of Springville and hosted many community July 4th celebrations and fish frys. Gerald L. Moon

Gerald L. Moon, 71, of Mitchell, died Monday, July 5, at Indiana University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Aug. 12, 1949, to John and Geneva Stroud Moon near Valeene. He married Teresa Kelly Brown in 1997.
Gerald attended Marengo High School and Paoli High School and graduated at Paoli in 1967. He enjoyed reunions with classmates from both schools. He was a member of Cross Roads Church of Christ near Valeene and has continued to occasionally worship with the congregation there while most recently worshiping regularly with the Central Church of Christ in Bedford.
Gerald earned an associate degree from Northwood Institute and a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University. He was retired from Paoli Inc. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Gerald enjoyed weekly bowling as well as playing Euchre and Rook. He and Teresa also enjoyed goat farming. Gerald was a musician, having played music with family and friends since his youth. Most recently, he has been among the jammers who participate in the weekly Orange County HomeGrown Farmers’ Market in Orleans. Gerald followed Indiana University basketball and national politics. He lived life to the fullest and had a gift for connecting with those he loved and bringing people together. His absence in that area leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald, Marvin and Curt, sisters Esther Hess and Margie Madden; brother-in-law Carson Madden; Teresa’s parents, John B. and Marie T. Kelly; his nephew Doug Apple and his beloved nephew Justin Moon, with whom he shared his Aug. 12 birthday.
Funeral services for Gerald Moon will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Paoli Church of Christ. Visitation will be at the church 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of the service on Thursday. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Church of Christ Cemetery near Hardinsburg.

Keith Tedrow age 84, of Shoals, passed away July 5, 2021, at the Martin County Health and Rehab in Loogootee.
He was born November 28, 1936, in Martin County to Enoch and Dora (Acary) Tedrow. He was a graduate of Shoals High School, was retired from National Gypsum and was a member of the Moose Lodge of Bedford.
He is survived by one sister, Lucille Spears of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Betty Salmon and son Paul Gene “P.J.” Salmon.
He is preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings.

He graduated from Indiana Wesleyan College with an Associates degree in business. He was a blacksmith and tool maker at Bybee Stone Co. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed traveling.

Betty Mae Taylor, 83, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021.
Born March 10, 1938, in Orleans, she was the daughter of Thomas and Esther (Gasaway) Payton. She married Glen D. Taylor on January 23, 1954, and he preceded her in death on May 28, 2005. She retired from White River Lodge as a dietary assistant. She was a member of the Peerless Pentecostal Church and had served God since 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Holt and husband, Gary, of Bedford; a son, Larry Taylor, and wife, Sharon, of Orleans; three granddaughters, Stormi Taylor, of Mitchell, Shandi Hanscom and husband, Derril, of Bedford, Joni Tow, of Bedford; a grandson, Orvelle Taylor and wife, Jennifer, of MI; a great granddaughter, Kendra Taylor; five great grandsons, Tyler and Austin Frazier, David Weiss, Jordan and Dylan Taylor; seven step-great grandchildren.

Kimberly Dawn Hostetter, 53, of Springville, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born September 29, 1967, in Anderson, IN, she was the daughter of Gary M. and Wanda (Allen) Hostetter. She was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the class of 1986. She obtained her BA degree in Choral, Instrumental and General Music from Anderson University. She was a Middle School Music Teacher at Bedford Middle School and had taught at Shawswick Elementary and Middle School, and at Heltonville Elementary School.
She was a member of the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church where she played the piano. A very gifted musician, she was very active with the music ministry. Kim was not just a teacher. She was a mentor and a friend. She loved her students and seeing them excel.
Survivors include her mother, Wanda Hostetter, of Bedford; a brother, Chris Hostetter and wife, Stephanie, of Bedford; a niece, Seirra Clouse-Hostetter, of Bedford; a nephew, Garrett Hostetter, of Bedford and a sister-in-law, Shelly Hostetter.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gary.

Michael “Mike” Box, 68, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born September 18, 1952, he was the son of Roland Box and Jewel (Pate) Box. He married Peggy Bilderback on Jan 30, 2008 and she survives.
Mike was a graduate of Shawswick High School with the class of 1970 and was a welder. He retired from Manchester Tank in Bedford, was a lifetime member of the NRA and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Mike took pride in raising his Box Quarter Horses and was a Ferrier for many years in Lawrence and surrounding counties.
Mike is survived by his wife, Peggy; two daughters, Gayle (Paul) Owens and Michelle (Mike) Evans; seven grandchildren, Brandon Owens, Tara (Mike) Ramos, Brittany (Freddie) Brock, Samantha (Jason) Huck, Kindra (Ryan) Dalton, Alexandra Owens and Andrea Owens; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Diana Wigley and Cheryl Anderson; his mother, Jewel Box; one aunt, Wilma Kelley; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Box; one son, John Box; and one grandson, Andrew Owens.
Funeral services for Michael “Mike” Box will be held on Monday, July 5, 2021 at 1:00PM at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes with Kenny Dalton officiating. Burial will follow at Pinhook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00AM-1:00PM Monday at Ferguson-Lee.

Merle Hughes
Dec. 30, 1948 — June 30, 2021
Merle Hughes, 72, of Bedford, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born December 30, 1948, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Lewis Watson and Marie (Miller) Lake. She married Rodger Terrell and he preceded her in death. She later married Thomas Hughes and he also preceded her in death. She was a housekeeper at the Hospitality House in Bedford.
Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Cole, Vonda Bunch and husband, Brian, and Fonda Drehobl, all of Bedford; three step-sons, Jesse, Bryan and Tommy Lee Hughes; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; six sisters, Carolyn Harrison, Vera Glasgow, Karen Parker, Diana Hanners, Rosella Sons, and Bonnie Hughes; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters, Jane Sykes and Marvetta Baker; a brother, Donnie Watson; a daughter, Shawnda Terrell; three great-grandbabies.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Patton Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Thomas “Tom” W. Rayle
Dec. 23, 1941 — June 29, 2021
Thomas “Tom” W. Rayle, 79, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at I. U. Health Hospice House, Bloomington.
Born Dec. 23, 1941, in Monroe County, IN, he was the son of Wilburn Rayle and Emma “Jean” Puitt. He married Judy Ashcraft and she survives.
Tom was an iron worker and retired from Visteon. He belonged to the Ironworker’s Local Union #22 out of Indianapolis and Ford’s Local Union #440. Tom was a U. S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving to cherish Tom’s memory are his wife, Judy, of Bedford; daughter, Kelley Rayle of Cary, NC; brother, Jim Rayle of Bedford; seven nieces; and one nephew.
Preceding Tom in death were his parents; sister, Marjorie “Sue” Dausch; and one nephew, Scott Burns.
A graveside service for Tom will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 2, 2021, at Clear Creek Cemetery with Pastor Joe Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the cemetery.
