Anetra Jean (McCart) Kendall

Anetra Jean Kendall, 81, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Dec. 7, 1936, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Orgal and Lavon (Johnson) McCart. She married Don Kendall May 23, 1953, and he preceded her in death March 15, 1998.

Anetra retired from Mills Market with 34 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and devoted her life to helping others. Her life revolved around her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Jeff (Connie) Kendall of Mitchell; daughter, Kim (Brent) Leonard of Mitchell; grandchildren, Matt (Kristen) Woods, Holly (Chris) Thompson, Chris (Brandi) Woods, Anthony Kendall and Abby Leonard; and siblings, Don (Carolyn) McCart of Bloomington, Nancy Boofer of Bedford and Amy (Dennis) Alcorn of Bedford.

Her parents; husband; mother-in-law, Nora Kendall; and daughter-in-law, Sherry Kendall, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Elisabeth ‘Lisa’ (Fuhrman) Hicks

Elisabeth “Lisa” Hicks, 81, of Bedford, died at 12:14 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Aug. 23, 1936, in Yugoslavia, she was the daughter of Philipp and Katerine (Shmidt) Fuhrman. She married Robert Hicks on July 4, 1956, and he survives. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Bedford; three daughters, Donna Mathis Bough and husband Scott, Diana Batchelor and husband Andy, all of Bedford, and Denise Bullock and husband Mike of Brownsburg; seven grandchildren, Lori McIntosh, Jason Mathis, Jennifer Richason, Krista George, Katie Bullock, Leah Bullock and Nathan Bullock; seven great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Philipp, Adolph and Reinhold Fuhrman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Peter and Horst Fuhrman; and a son-in-law, Brian Mathis.

Private services are planned. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Richard L. ‘Dick’ Burton Sr.

Richard L. “Dick” Burton Sr., 77, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at StoneBridge Health Campus.

Born March 19, 1940, in Bloomington, he was the son of Harold and Geneva (Hacker) Burton. He married Mary Wolfinger on July 2, 1966; she preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2002.

Richard was a retired painter. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He attended Restoration Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are three sons, Scott A. Hensley, William R. “Robbie” (Alison) Burton and Timothy L. (Tawnya) Burton; three daughters, Katherine “Kathy” J. (J.R.) Sons, Kimberly Joyce (Steve) Hanson and Crystalee Ann (Tim) Schultz; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Janice Powers; one brother, Buddy Burton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; one son, Richard L. Burton Jr.; and two sisters, Patty Nikirk and Jeannie Godsey.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Robert Rosenbaum and Pastor Ken Bushey officiating. Burial will be in Tunnelton Cemetery.

Dr. James William ‘Bill’ McDonald Jr.

April. 26, 1970 — Jan. 29, 2018

Dr. James William “Bill” McDonald Jr., 47, Hardinsburg, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2018.

He was born in Bedford on April 26, 1970, to James William McDonald Sr. and Lois Elaine Buck McDonald. He married Lindsay Rutherford McDonald on March 22, 1997.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois, when he was seven years old, and also his paternal grandparents, Noel and Pearl McDonald; maternal grandparents, Frank and Hazel Buck; and maternal grandfather, Donnel Sipe.

He was a member of the Paoli Christian Church in Paoli, Indiana Veterinary Medical Association and American Veterinary Medical Association. He was elected to the Paoli School Board in 1996 and had served as president for many years and was always dedicated to the betterment of the school and the students’ best interest.

He served ten years as a 4-H member and continued to be a volunteer and generous donor to the Orange County 4-H programs. He was a partner with his family in McDonald Farms and South-Central Collision Center and sole owner of McDonald Veterinary Clinic.

He attended Paoli schools and graduated from West Washington High School as valedictorian of his class in 1988. He went on to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University in 1994 where he was president of the veterinary school student body. He received the top surgeon award and the compassionate care award. He went on to open his own veterinary practice in January 1995.

Survivors include his wife: Lindsay McDonald of Hardinsburg; parents, James William Sr. and Barbara McDonald of Hardinsburg; maternal grandmother, Virginia Sipe of Portland; mother-in-law: Louanne Lashbrook and husband Jon of Paoli; father-in-law, Max Rutherford and wife Linda of Paoli; two sons, Jacob William McDonald and Joseph Thomas McDonald, both at home; one daughter, Madelyn Jo McDonald, at home; two brothers, John R. ‘Bob” McDonald and Paula of Hardinsburg and Peter David McDonald and Autumn of Noblesville; one sister, Susan McDonald Umpleby and Dave of Hardinsburg; one sister-in-law, Leah and Al Becht of Paoli; one brother-in-law, Marc and Dorothy Rutherford of Paoli; nieces and nephews, Alleigh and Luke Becht, Rachel and Lauren Umpleby, Megan McDonald and Charleigh, Camryn, Chayse and Cruze McDonald.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb.1, at Paoli Christian Church with Brother Rob Lee, Brother George Key and Brother Gary Swick officiating. Interment will follow in the Hardinsburg Community Cemetery in Hardinsburg.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Paoli Christian Church, 1700 W. Hospital Road, Paoli, IN 47454.

Betty Feather, 87, of Bedford, died at 1:24 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Nov. 28, 1930, in Spring Creek, North Carolina, she was the daughter of John and Bertha (Bridges) Woody. She married Byron Feather on May 7, 1960, and he survives.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed golf, traveling, visiting casinos and having coffee with her friends. She loved spending time with her grandkids and attending their sporting events.

Survivors include her husband, Byron of Bedford; a daughter, Sandra Craig and husband Jim of Bedford; a son, Larry Cole and wife Veronica of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren, Neil Craig and wife Magen, Reece Craig, Logan Cole and wife Meghan, Lauren Albert and husband Jake and Olivia Cole and fiancé Ryan Dickey; two sisters, Bonnie Viers of Ohio and Martha Kiser and husband George of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings.

A brief memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Icis May Gore, 90, of Bedford, died at 4:27 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 2018, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born July 8, 1927, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Everett Bert and Maggie (Craig) Brock. She married James W. “Banty” “Peepers” Gore on Sept. 2, 1950, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2016.

She had worked at Crane Depot and also the shirt factory of Relliance Manufacturing and was a housewife for many years.

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Cox, Sheryl Myers and husband Stephen and Patsy Wheeler and husband George, all of Bedford; two sons, Danny Joe Gore and wife Laura and Joseph Gore and wife Crissy, all of Bedford; 12 grandchildren, Shelly Rainey, James Cox, Valarie Lovell, Jayce Shifflett, Onis Wheeler, Kenya Wheeler, Seith Wheeler, Steven Gore, Samuel Gore, Riley Gore, Gavin Gore and Brad Myers; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy Lee Brock and wife Regina; and four sisters, Emma Sue Cagle, Virginia Ruth Charles and husband Jack, Barbara Jo Southern and husband Larry and Bonnie Gail Lynch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Maggie Brock; her husband, James W. “Banty” “Peepers” Gore; one son, Alan Gore; one grandson, Joshua Wheeler; one great-grandson, Noah Gore; five brothers, Marvin Bert, Robert Eugene, Fred Wayne, Willie Dale and Homer Dean Brock; four sisters, Joy Helen Hacker, Anna Pearl Williams, Ruby Lorena George, and Sharon Rose Brock; and a son-in-law, John Cox.

Edith Burton Ramey, 94, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Sept. 11, 1923, in Orleans, she was the daughter of Harry and Julia Delilah (Martin) Burton. She married Roy R. Ramey Jan. 22, 1944, and he preceded her in death Nov. 2, 2015.

Edith retired from Public Service Indiana with 31 years of service and was a 1941 graduate of Mitchell High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church and held all offices in the Order of Eastern Star No. 352.

Survivors include her son, Roy “Rick” (Janice) Ramey of Mitchell; daughter, Barbara Ann (Bob) White of Mitchell; grandchildren, Tara LeAnn Ramey, Kimberly Brooke Manning, Troy Matthew Ramey and Julie Ann Ortman; and great grandchildren, Kalyn Brooke White, Clayton Royce Manning, Kamdyn Ramey Manning, Victoria Ann Ortman, Joseph Robert Ortman, Olivia Ann Ortman and McKenna Grace Ramey.

Her parents; husband; and sister, Mary Katherine Burton, preceded her in death.

Tray Stinson, 44, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at Community Health Hospital South, Indianapolis.

Born Feb. 9, 1973, in Bedford, he was the son of Troy and Juanita (Ramsey) Stinson.

He worked in maintenance at various hotels and retail shops.

Surviving are two sisters, Tarry Hart and Pam Lyons; two brothers, Tory Stinson and Alva Stinson; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Troy Stinson and John Stinson.

Kerry Alan George

Sept. 9, 1950 — Jan. 26, 2018

Kerry Alan George, 67, went home to be reunited with his Lord on January 26, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Kerry was known for his love of family and his dedication to God and his church.

Kerry was born to Robert Dean and Marilyn Jeanette (Armstrong) George on September 9, 1950, and was raised in Owensburg, IN. He graduated from Eastern Greene High School and then spent more than 30 years working for the Rogers Group of Bedford and was a member of the Local #741 Laborers and Hod Carriers Union. He attended the Owensburg Baptist Church, where he spent many years as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and moderator where he often started service with the phrase, “God is good all the time.”

Kerry was blessed with a loving family. He married the love of his life, Coleen Boler, on December 2, 1973. Together they created a happy home in which they raised three children who made him so very proud. He also enjoyed being a “Papaw” to his grandchildren and loved watching them at their school performances and cheering them on during their sporting adventures.

In his free time, Kerry enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He never sat idle and was always helping other people.

Kerry is dearly missed by his loved ones. They take comfort in knowing that he is in Heaven and that his body has been restored. He is survived by his wife, Coleen; children Valerie (Patrick) Ault of Bloomington, Timothy (Dr. Julie Shaff) George of Bloomfield, Heather (Zach) Myers of Greenwood; grandchildren Zoie and Maddox Ault, Addison George, Thomas and Katherine Myers and Lauren and Owen Shaff. Kerry is also survived by his dear mother, Marilyn George of Owensburg, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” George; siblings Kristy Crohn and Kirby George; and nephew Devin George.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, at Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford, with Kenny Adams and Jay Collins officiating. Kerry will be laid to rest in the Owensburg Cemetery in Owensburg, IN.

Rev. Earl Franklin Robbins

Sept. 12, 1924 — Jan. 25, 2018

Earl was a man of joy, kindness and compassion. In his life he wore many titles: veteran, son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and Reverend Robbins. Family and God were central to his life.

He was born and raised in Bedford, Indiana, to John and Nellie Robbins. He left home for the first time to serve as an Army medic in the Pacific theater during World War II. Upon his return, Earl worked and retired from General Motors in Bedford after 30 years of service. Post retirement, he embarked on a new adventure to become an ordained United Methodist minister.

Earl and his wife, Janet Shotts Robbins, ministered together for over 20 years in Indiana. Looking for challenges and not willing to slow down at the young age of 71, he and his wife moved to the Middle East to preach the word of God as missionaries.

Upon his last retirement at the age of 86, Earl and Janet settled in Bloomington, enjoying church and family until Janet’s passing in the spring of 2017. As with many true loves, Earl never recovered.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; parents, John and Nellie Robbins; two sons, Danny Robbins and Mike Price; and ten siblings.

Survivors include son, Terry (Linda) Robbins of Bloomington; daughter, Sheryl Price of Fort Meyers, FL; brother, John (Colleen) Robbins of Bedford, IN, and a legacy of offspring.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2018, at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home in Bloomington, officiated by the Rev. Ray New. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens, where the Monroe County Honor Guard will perform military rites. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Edward H. Smith, 75, of Bedford, passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

He was born in Lawrence County on July 13, 1942, to Clarence and Jean (Blackburn) Smith. Edward was disabled, he also mowed lawns, and he was a 1961 graduate of Mitchell High School and a member of the Life Tabernacle Church in Springville.

Survivors include two children, Stephen Smith and April Shaw; two sisters, Judy (Larry) New of Bedford and Vickie Fisher of Mitchell; two brothers, Ray (Shirley) Smith of Bedford and Ralph (Sue) Smith of Mitchell; longtime friend Carlene White; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linda Gibson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday Jan. 29, at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Charles J. Tincher

April 23, 1930 — Jan. 24, 2018

Charles J. Tincher, 87, of Bedford, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born April 23, 1930, in Oolitic, he was the son of Charles F. and Cilia (Asdel) Tincher. He married Edith L. Beasley on March 22, 1969, and she survives. He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School.

He retired after 29 years as a maintenance man at Westinghouse.

He was a member of the Bedford Baptist Temple, AARP, American Patriot Lodge No. 750 F&AM of Oolitic and Local No. 2031.

Survivors include his wife, Edith of Bedford; two sons, Michael Tincher and wife Lovie of Cedar Lake and Robin Miller and wife Kay of Bedford; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kathryn Shelton.

Private services were conducted with Pastor Lyman C. Taylor officiating. Burial was in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Anna L. Neideffer

Anna L. Neideffer, 87, of Bedford, passed away Jan. 24, 2018, in Indianapolis.

Born Sept. 27, 1930, in Williams, Anna was the daughter of the late John Reid and Florence (Cundiff) Gee Blackburn.

Anna was a homemaker for many years, and worked in manufacturing at Essex in Orleans for a number of years.

Along with her parents, Anna is also preceded in death by her son, Gordon W. Sons; three brothers, Morris, Johnny and Estel Gee; and three sisters, Mary Wagoner, Vivian Fox and Beatrice White..

Survivors include her son, Louis R. “Louie” (Sherry) Sons of Bedford; her daughter, Judy K. (Rock) Franklin of Greenwood; 11 grandchildren, Trisha, Scott, Shannon, Amy, Kyle, Andrew, Nicole, Josh, Roxi, Greg and Troy; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Laura Catherine (Adamson) Bowden

Laura Catherine Bowden, 88, of Bedford died at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at her residence.

Born March 16, 1929, she was the daughter of John Wesley and Mary Ann (Hayes) Adamson. She married Viv Bowden on Feb. 14, 1948, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2003.

She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford and had served in the church crib room for 70 years.

She worked for Crowders in her early years, then went to work at NWSC Crane from 1966 until her retirement in 1987, after retiring from Crane, she worked as a file clerk at Bedford Ford for several years.

Survivors include one son, John R. Bowden and his wife Jane of Ellettsville; one daughter, Jennifer K. Hert of Bedford; five grandchildren: Courtney Crismore and husband Jason of Bloomington, Sarah Hall and husband Brian of Nairobi, Kenya, Allison Moore and husband Jed of Bedford, Mica Shonk and husband Greg of Bloomington and Stephen Hert of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Hannah Hall, Brody, Bricton, and Brenzlie Moore and Emerson Shonk; one sister, Myna K. Tarr of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son-in-law, Phillip Hert.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Nathan Sundt officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery.

Anna L. Neideffer, 87, of Bedford, passed away Jan. 24, 2018, in Indianapolis.

Born Sept. 27, 1930, in Williams, Anna was the daughter of the late John Reid and Gertrude (Gee) Blackburn.

Anna was a homemaker for many years, and worked in manufacturing at Essex in Orleans for a number of years.

Along with her parents, Anna is also preceded in death by her son, Gordon W. Sons; two brothers, Morris and Johnny Gee; and two sisters, Mary Wagoner and Vivian Fox.

Survivors include her son, Louis R. “Louie” (Sherry) Sons of Bedford; her daughter, Judy K. (Rock) Franklin of Greenwood; 11 grandchildren, Trisha, Scott, Shannon, Amy, Kyle, Andrew, Nicole, Josh, Roxi, Greg and Troy; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Mary Edith Gossman, 86, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Jan. 19, 2018.

She was born in Mitchell on June 10, 1931, to Warren and Vernal Acton. She was a 1949 graduate of Mitchell High School.

Survivors include three children, Stephen Gossman, Jetta Gossman Benson and Neil Gossman, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, extended Gossman family and extended Acton family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald Gossman; two brothers, Charles “Sonny” Acton and William “Bill” Acton, one sister, Margaret Batchelor; and parents-in-law, Walter and Leora Gossman

Robert Michael “Bob” Hunter, 93, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Garden Villa.

Born Jan. 17, 1925, in Heltonville, he was the son of Lawrence and Ona (Speer) Hunter. Robert graduated from Shawswick High School in 1944. He married Bernadine Mitchner on April 12, 1945, and she preceded him in death. They were married 68 years.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II in the Philippines. He was a life-long farmer and worked many years in the limestone industry where he was a stone estimator. He also worked in the hardwood business.

Robert was a member of the Mundell Christian Church where he retired as a deacon and served many years as treasurer and board chairman/member. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 14 F & AM.

Survivors include three children, Debora Bateman and husband Donald James “Jim” of Loogootee, Tammi Hooten and husband Stephen and Jon Hunter, all of Bedford; grandchildren, Scott Taylor of Bloomington, Brian Taylor and wife Jessica of Warsaw, Lisa Taylor and partner Leia Fanelli of Phoenix, Arizona, Kevin Hooten of Bloomington, Kyle Hooten and wife Jessica, Klint Hooten and Katelyn Hooten, all of Bedford, Jessica Smith and husband, Eric of Rossville, Illinois, Joni Jacobo and husband Harrison of Bargersville and Jeni Beasley and husband James of Mitchell; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Cecelia Pearl Myers, Esther Almond and Ruth Whitted; and a brother, Hubert Hunter.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor John Wisley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mundell Christian Church Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post No.33 American Legion.

Wayne E. “Ed” Taylor, 77, of Bedford, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at his residence.

Born Feb. 11, 1940, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Wilbur and Goldie (Lewis) Taylor. He married Judy Mitchell on Oct. 10, 1966, and she preceded him in death June 29, 2011.

He was a truck driver for Kern Trucking for 35 years and a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne E. Taylor Jr. and wife Bonnie of Bedford and Travis Taylor of Bloomington; a granddaughter, Samantha Taylor of Bedford; six great-grandsons, Kenny Gage Cahill, Kristopher Earnhardt Cahill, Dominic Taylor and Dwayne Edward Taylor and Sean Miller and Bo Miller, and their mother, Charlotte Miller; a great-granddaughter, Isabela Lou Phillips; four brothers, Gale Taylor of Clearsprings, Carl Taylor and John Taylor, both of Norman, and Merle Taylor of Heltonville; two sisters, Ruth Taylor of Norman and Mary Pruett of Freetown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Dale, Dean and Danny Lloyd Taylor; and a grandson, Christopher Miller.

Virginia Anne Concannon, 91, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at StoneBridge Health Campus.

Born March 20, 1926, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Robert Glenn and Mary Leon (Brock) Richards. She married William “Stretch” Concannon on Oct. 16, 1948, in Lawrence County, and he preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1990.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the St. Vincent Altar Society and a past member of the church choir.

Virginia was a homemaker. She worked as the Parish Secretary at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for 11 years. She then retired from Bedford Medical Center.

Surviving are one daughter, Jane A. Scott and husband Jeffrey of Bedford; two sons, William Joseph Concannon of Indianapolis and Patrick M. Concannon of Bedford; two grandchildren, Hannah Gregory and Ian Scott; two great-grandchildren, Nica Rose Mosora and Hudson Gregory; one brother, John Richards and wife Gail of Bedford; sister-in-law, Linda Richards; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Glenn Richards and wife Loretta and Jimmy Richards; three sisters, Betty Wagner and husband Gib, Jane Hall and husband Hale and Joan Hornocker and husband, Harold; niece, Debbie Richards; and nephew, Richard Hornocker.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Friday, Jan. 26, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Francis Eckstein and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Rex William “Rexy” Pruett, 14, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at St. Vincent Salem Hospital.

Born Jan. 9, 2004, in Bloomington, he was the son of Rex Earl and Jessica Lee (Hubbard) Pruett.

Rex was in the seventh grade at Orleans Junior High School. He enjoyed video games, shooting, swimming and working outside with the family. He was vivacious and loved riding four wheelers and being outdoors with friends.

Rex was a member of Lost River Missionary Baptist Church, and the Salem Full Gospel Outreach.

Survivors include his parents, Jessica Hubbard of Salem and Rex Pruett of Campbellsburg; sisters, Selena Pruett and Sabrina Pruett of Campbellsburg; grandmother, Sharon Pruett of Campbellsburg; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his dogs, Max and Minnie.

His grandparents, Mac and Tracey Bell and Clifford Pruett, preceded him in death.

Emily Flynn Fields passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Edwina Flynn Glick, in San Antonio, Texas

Emily was born July 13, 1921, at home in Oolitic, to John P. and Nettie (Hardwick) Morrow. She married Edward Flynn Feb. 7, 1941. He passed away Dec. 5, 1983. She married Harley Fields in 1985.

Emily is survived by her daughter, Edwina Flynn Glick and son in law Dan Glick of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Melissa Lawmaster (Dennis Deppe) of Glendale, Arizona; grandsons, Rhett Lawmaster of Maricopa, Arizona and Bradley Lawmaster (Mindy) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, Jack and Sam Lawmaster of Green Cove Springs, Florida. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Emily graduated from Oolitic High School. She worked at Reliance in the 1950’s. Ed and Emily formerly owned the Oolitic Cleaners and Hiway Market.

After selling the Hiway Market, she decided to go to beauty school. She graduated from Huffer Beauty College in Columbus. She and her sister Eva Shultz drove to Columbus every day. After graduation from beauty school, Ed and Emily moved to Joliet, Illinois. While living there, Emily obtained her Illinois Cosmetology License. Upon moving back to Oolitic, she opened Emily’s Beauty Shop, which she operated for 35 years. After she closed her shop, she worked at her sister’s shop until she was 80 years old.

She loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always commenting how fast they were growing. Emily loved joking with her son-in-law, Dan. They were always teasing each other. She also loved her grand dogs, Chowder and Tracy, who loved to cuddle on her lap. Emily loved to crochet, sew, work crossword puzzles, read, shop and travel.

In 2004, she moved to San Antonio and when Edwina and Dan moved to Sun City, Arizona, she went with them. She loved going to the senior center every day and driving her golf cart all over Sun City. Emily was a member of the Olive Street Church Of Christ, Peoria, Arizona and the Second Street Church of Christ in Bloomington.

After returning to San Antonio, Emily lived in Assisted Living and returned to live with Edwina and Dan shortly before she passed.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ed Flynn and Harley Fields; sisters, Eva Stultz (Celee) and Clora and Violet Morrow; brothers Carl (Mary), Starling (Louise), Jay and Harrison Morrow; several nieces; and nephews and step-daughter, Rheadawn Flynn Gustus.

He was born on May 1, 1928, in Bedford to Gilbert Henry Canada and Lillie Hazel (Smith) Canada. Marvin married Edna Clonia (Jones) Canada on Nov. 5, 1945, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1990.

Marvin had worked at the Oolitic Stone Company and retired from Westinghouse in Bloomington and also retired from Bloomington Hospital. He was a member of the Oolitic Pentecostal Church.

Betty Jane Richason, 84, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at the home of her daughter in Bloomington.

Born Sept. 2, 1933, in Flora, she was the daughter of of Lawrence and Minnie (Birge) Spurgeon. She married Donald E. Richason July 31, 2004.

She had been employed at Hospitality House and was of the Baptist faith. Betty enjoyed her family.

Survivors include her husband, Donald E. Richason of Mitchell; children, Teresa Jenkins of Monticello, Lisa (Wayne) Burkhart of California, Marlene Johnson of Mooresville, Peggy Smith of Bloomington and Randy (Angel) Chastain of Bloomington; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Her parents and siblings, Donna Davis, Opal Isom, Ruby Hinkle, Elizabeth Spurgeon, Joe Spurgeon and Lawrence Spurgeon Jr., preceded her in death.

Duane Hall, age 74, husband of Dru Dyer Hall of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington.

Born Feb. 6, 1943, in Bedford, he was the son of Jesse and Olivia (Wray) Hall.

He received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering at Tri State College in Angola, was a retired employee of Corning Glass Works with over 50 years of service. He loved to go fishing, selling and buying guns, listening to country music, traveling, enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren.

He was a faithful member of the Harrodsburg Church of Christ.

Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Denise (Greg) Howard and Dawn Hall, both of Harrodsburg; and three grandchildren Olivia Hall of Louisville, Amanda and Alyssa Howard, both of Harrodsburg.

He was preceded in death by a son, Darryn Hall; and his stepfather, John E. Childers.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, by Keith Greer. Graveside services and burial was Jan. 15, in Dyer Family Cemetery in Jackson County, Tennessee.

Don Reynolds, 82, 218 N. Poplar St., Seymour passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, after a brief illness.

He was a proud Korean War veteran of the United States Navy and a retired school teacher and carpenter.

Family gravesite services were held Jan. 9 with Jerry Travis officiating. Burial was next to his father at the House of Prayer Cemetery in Fayetteville. The American Legion Post No. 33 from Bedford provided the honor guard.

Born April 18, 1926, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Winford and Bertha (Blackwell) Bartlett. She married Ermil Ritter on November 22, 1947, and he preceded her in death on April 1, 2013. She was a graduate of the Heltonville High School and a member of the Bartlettsville Christian Church. She was a line worker at RCA.

Paul Edward Clements

Paul Edward Clements, 80, of rural Paoli, IN, passed on to join his wife, parents and loved ones on January 19, 2018.

He was born to Edith (Elliott) & Thad Clements on August 9, 1937. He graduated from Paoli High School with the class of 1955, and married Eva Jane Bobbitt on September 24, 1964.

Paul worked at Carpenter Body Works in Mitchell, IN, for several years before he and his wife started their own business, Kitty Hawk Models. He was an avid airplane enthusiast who not only enjoyed the model radio-controlled aircraft, he also enjoyed flying his own small aircraft to several regional destinations.

He participated in, and hosted several radio-controlled contests as Kitty Hawk Models was starting to become a reality. He also designed and developed his own model plane, the “Skynight 2.” After several modifications, trial and errors and adjustments, he manufactured the “Skynight — 6” for RC retailers. He and Eva Jane also enjoyed serving on the local airport board throughout the years.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and many long-time friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Jane Bobbitt; his brother Merle Clements; an infant brother (un-named); his parents, Edith (Elliott) & Thad Clements; and his in-laws, Mildred (Trinkle) & Hershel Bobbitt.

Visitation and funeral will be Monday, January 22, 2018, at McAdams Mortuary in Paoli. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the funeral service starting at 1 p.m. Brother Jimmy Johnson, Syria Christian Church, will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Stampers Creek Cemetery.

Robert F. “Bob” Kern, 79, of Bedford, died early Thursday morning, Jan. 18, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Born June 12, 1938, in Bedford, he was the son of Robert “Ed” and Jesse (Jacobs) Kern. He married Judy Owens on July 24, 1994, and she survives.

He was a 1956 graduate of Oolitic High School and attended Indiana University. He was employed as a millwright for GM Powertrain for more than 25 years until his retirement in 1990.

Bob loved the Lord, the outdoors, especially bass fishing, hunting and gardening. He enjoyed southern gospel music, wintering in Florida, cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals, watching sports and working crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his beagle dog, Breezy May.

Survivors include his wife Judy; son, Kevin (Brenda) of Bedford; daughters Kelly (Gary) Houk of Silverville and Kimberly Leeann (Jeff) Hauersperger of Bloomington. He is survived by nine grandchildren, Dustin (Brittany) Kern, Tara Kern, Lora Kern and Rob Kern, all of Bedford, Natalie (Bryan) Banks, Nate, Dawson and Sarah Hauersperger, all of Bloomington, and Jarrin (Pete) Ferguson of Sparta, Tennessee; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two sisters, Roberta Sherrill and Becky (Larry) Kinser of Bedford, and sisters-in-law, Janice Bell and Sherry Mayer.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Irvin Sherrill; and a son-in-law, Bruce Cobb.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Dive Christian Church in Bedford, where Bob was a lifelong member, and from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at the church.

She was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Bedford, the daughter of William Roach and Effie (Eggers) Roach Bolton Dodd. On Dec. 13, 1952, she married Donald George of Bedford.

Joyce is survived by her three sons, Robert Chester George, Randy (Donna) George and David (Jane) George; four grandchildren, Laura (Michael) Henderson, Melissa (Darrell) Richardson, Megan George and Keaton (Kate) George; six great-grandchildren, Edward Henderson, Genevieve Henderson, Willem Henderson, Franklin Henderson, Teagan Richardson and Lillian Richardson; and sister, Mary Louise Gore.

Alma Christine Bottorff, 92, of Bedford went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 at the Bliss House in Bedford. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Born July 12, 1925, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Milford and Abby (Neely) Godsey. She married Robert E. Bottorff on May 24, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 2004.

She had worked as a cook at Springville School, volunteered for the Cub Scouts, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church and had attended the First Baptist Church of Bedford.

She loved to camp, fish, watch Purdue basketball, spend time with family, and attend church.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Spaulding of Avoca; a son, Robert Bottorff and wife Mary Janice of Bedford; four grandsons, John Spaulding II and wife Pam of Albany, Georgia, James Spaulding and wife Joanne of Bedford, Tim “Timmy” Bottorff and wife Jodi of Bedford, and Matt Bottorff and wife Amy of The Woodlands, Texas; great-grandchildren, John David (JD) Spaulding III, Jessica Spaulding, Philip Spaulding, Thomas Spaulding, Susan Bridges, Teresa Ritchison and husband Tyler, Stephanie Bultman and fiancé, Woody, of Ocean Springs, Missippi, Kortni Taylor and husband Daniel of Camby, Arie Bottorff and wife Katie of Bedford, Nash Bottorff of Bedford, Grant Bottorff and Jack Bottorff of the Woodlands, Texas; and great- great-grandchildren, Kaytelynn Shutters, Marissa Robbins, Danielle Bridges, Isaac Bridges, Dom Woodruff, Kelby Ritchison and Molly Ritchison.

Edith C. Anderson Bahr, 95, of Bedford, died at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Autumn Hills in Bloomington.

Born Nov. 21, 1922, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Pete and Lucille (Gobat) Anderson. She married Dale Anderson on April 4, 1942, and he preceded her in death on July 7, 1989. She later married Charles Bahr on Aug. 8, 1993, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2000.

She was a poodle groomer and former member of the Hoosier Hills Doll Club. She was a member of the Oolitic Church of Christ, Dunn Memorial Hospital Pink Lady Volunteers, and Former Friends in Bloomington. In earlier years, she was active in PTA and Cub Scouts.

She won many ribbons at the Lawrence County 4-H Fair and Mitchell Persimmon Festival.

Survivors include three sons, Brent Anderson of Bedford, Gary Anderson and wife Linda of Bloomington and Bruce Anderson and wife Meredith of California; two grandsons, Zach Anderson and wife Lara of Westfield and Taylor Anderson and wife Elizabeth of Sugar Hill, Georgia; and five great-grandchildren, Mia, Lauren, Nicholas, Luke, and Wyatt Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a brother, Charles Anderson; and three sisters, Ilene Worman, Louise Morrow and Lois Waldron.

He was a truck driver, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of the Masonic Lodge No.14 F & AM.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Arlene Slusher, 95, of Bedford, formerly of Lizemore, West Virginia, went home to be with her Lord on Jan. 17, 2018, at Garden Villa.

She was born to Luther and Flora (Baker) Morton on August 25, 1922. She married E. Raymond Slusher and they had four children.

Arlene was a homemaker, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Arlene attended the Bedford Free Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lizemore, WV.

Arlene is survived by her son, James (Kara) Slusher of Dunkirk, Maryland; and her daughter, Cathy (Ronnie) Cobb of Bedford; granddaughter, Donella (Brad) Bredeweg of Mitchell; grandsons, Doug Cobb of Terre Haute, Steve (Kelli) Cobb of Indianapolis and Jeffery (Stephanie) Slusher of Dunkirk, Maryland; four great-granddaughters, Sarah Bredeweg, Scarlette Cobb, Emma Slusher and Ava Slusher; one great-grandson, Ethan Slusher; and one sister, Dena Fitzwater.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Raymond Slusher Jr. and Rodney Dean Slusher; three brothers; and four sisters.

Karen Sioux Connaughton, 69, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2018 at her residence.

Born Sept. 8, 1948 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Paul and Dremah “Peachie” (Lusk) Stevens. She attended University High School. Sioux was a free spirit with a big heart, who never met a stranger. Sioux always had one more place at the table or one more spare bed for friends and anyone in need. She truly loved to cook, and found her way to the hearts of many with her wonderful meals.

Throughout her life she was a surrogate parent to many young people who needed a friend, and was a good person to know if you needed help with a leaky faucet or some other home repair. Sioux grew up on Lampkins Ridge Road east of Bloomington where her family owned a small farm. She loved working on the farm, tending the animals, and was an avid horsewoman. She had a flair for the dramatic, was a voracious reader, enjoyed writing poetry, and in her later years enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and Europe, most recently spending time in Oxford, UK.

Survivors include sons, Duane Connaughton (Jennifer Young) and Paul Connaughton, all of Bedford; daughters, Jozie Connaughton of Bedford and Dawn Connaughton Van Sise (Dick Van Sise) of Sterling, Virginia; grandchildren, Allen Van Sise and Avery Van Sise, both of Sterling, Virginia and Tor and Gunner Connaughton, both of Bedford; a sister, Paula Lee Stevens Mueller (Alan Mueller) of Seattle, Washington; a niece, Angela Crouch, of Seattle; and a nephew, Simon Mueller, of Phoenix, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sioux will be missed by many, and more dearly by her family. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Bedford Eagles Lodge, 1312 J Street, Bedford.

Jean LaVon Blendowski, 86, of Bedford, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Johnson’s Christian Village.

Born June 27, 1931, in Avoca, she was the daughter of Earl G. and Martha Z. (Mitchell) Evans. She married Joseph John Blendowski on June 24, 1951, and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2010.

She was a graduate of the Bedford High School with the Class of 1949 and a homemaker.

She was a Pink Lady volunteer for many years, loved her cats, and was an avid Cubs fan. She was a gardener who grew many flowers, specifically roses, which she entered in several shows.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha J. Arnold of Mitchell; two sons, Vincent S. Blendowski and wife Judy of Orange Park, Florida and John G. Blendowski and wife Debbie of Shoals; nine grandchildren, Jennifer McNeely, Michelle Roush, Bryan Burkhart, Brandi Goodreau, Tracey Blendowski, Tara Arnold, Jennie Blendowski, Joe Blendowski and Mark Blendowski; and 16 great-grandchildren, Madison McNeely, Olivia Varvel, Luke Burkhart, Max Goodreau, Sadie Goodreau, Ashley Burkhart, Kaley Roush, Collin Roush, Ellie Roush, Jake Stroud, Gabby McNeely, Jasmine Jackson, Jordon Jackson, Justin Jackson, Zander Blendowski and Jalynn Blackwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Loretta June Owen; a son, Jim J. Blendowski; and a son-in-law, Bill L. Arnold.

Stephen Ellis Hanner, 75, of Kurtz, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Hanner attended Norman Community Church. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He retired from Visteon, Bedford, and was a farmer. Mr. Hanner was on the precinct committee and Advisory Board for Salt Creek Township and was a board member of the Kurtz Cemetery Association.

Stephen’s life can be defined in many ways. Most important to him was his Christian faith and sharing that faith with his family, whom he loved dearly. He took great pride in our country and his four years of service in the United States Air Force. He was dedicated to working the land on his farm and enjoyed hunting and fishing there. Finally, he was a great gardener, who enjoyed sharing with others the fruits of his labor.

Born on Sept. 29, 1942, at Blind Horse Holler, in Kurtz, he was the son of Eldon and Iris Glodine Lutes Hanner, both of whom preceded him in death. On Nov. 12, 1960, at Kurtz Church of the Nazarene, he married Emma Jean Smith and she survives in Kurtz.

Additional survivors include one son, Gregory Allen (Cheryl) Hanner of Norman; one daughter, Stephanie Ann (Clint) Brock of Brownstown; three brothers, Kenneth Hanner of North Carolina, Phillip Hanner of Norman and Everett Hanner of Tennessee; one sister, Marilyn (James) Wilson of Norman; four grandchildren, Clinton (Erin) Hanner, Lauren Hanner, Cole Brock and Carley Brock; and one great-granddaughter, Madelynn Hanner.

Mr. Hanner was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Hanner and Loy Hanner; and one granddaughter, Lauren Hanner.

Funeral service for Stephen Ellis Hanner will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Donald Hawkins and Dr. Morin officiating. Interment will be at Kurtz Cemetery.

Michael David Clouse, 71, of Bedford passed away on Jan.3, 2018, at his residence in Bedford.

He was born in Bedford on July 18, 1946, to Ralph Brown and Marie (Collier) Brown McDaniel. He was a graduate of Heltonville High School.

Mike was a lifelong resident of Heltonville and Bedford. He was a professional business and residential painter. He loved spending time with family and following IU Basketball. He will be missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his sister, Mona (Michael) Brown Goen of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susan in 2016; brother, Darrell Clouse; and sister, Patty (Brown) White.

She was born in Martin County on Jan. 16, 1927, to Daniel Lindley and Grace (Payne) Lindley. Lois married William F. Henry on June 6, 1946, in Martin County and he preceded her in death in 2009.

She was a graduate of Shoals High School and Indiana University and was a member of Clearview Baptist Church. Lois retired from Crane, she was in office administration. Lois was a good Christian lady that loved to go to church.

Born Aug. 1, 1939, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Russell W. and Helen Juanita (Jackson) Lewis. She married William Harold Goodman on Feb. 27, 1960, and he preceded her in death.

She was a custodian for the North Lawrence Community School System and a laundry technician at Bedford North Lawrence High School for 25 years, retiring in 2003.

Born Sept. 25, 1939, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Murray and Thelma (Stewart) Diehl. He married Hettie Stockton on April 8, 1978, and she survives.

He retired as the office manager for Rogers Group after 18 years and was a member of the Central Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Hettie of Bedford; two sons, Barry Diehl and Stacy Diehl and wife Cathy, all of Florida; a daughter, Shelly Cox and husband Rocky of Bedford; two stepdaughters, Kelly Woody and husband Jerry of Bedford and Stephanie Creech and husband Gordon of Ellettsville; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Claude L. Strunk, 82, of Taswell, died at 6:17 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany.

Born Sept. 25, 1935, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Luther and Sena (Owens) Strunk. He married Kathryn Harper on April 19, 1957, and she survives.

He retired as an electronic systems inspector and supervisor for Naval Avionics in Indianapolis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and a member of the V.F.W. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and a member of the Lincoln Hills United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee. He volunteered at Hoosier Hills Food Bank where he delivered food commodities to senior citizens in Crawford County.

Claude enjoyed gardening. He planted and sold three acres of sweet corn and was known locally as ‘the corn man.’

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of Taswell; a son, Steven Strunk and wife Heidi of Fishers; four grandchildren, Austin, Allison, Ben and Sam Strunk; a brother, Bob Strunk of Greenwood; two sisters, Betty Edwards of Kokomo and Linda Phillips and husband Larry of Springville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barry Strunk; two brothers, Eugene and Don Strunk and a sister, Bonnie Silvers.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Jill Kaetzel officiating. Burial will follow in Springville Christian Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.

Juliana Faith Sawyer, 85, of Bedford, formerly of Orleans, passed away on Thursday Dec. 28, 2017, at her residence.

She was born in India on May 10, 1932, to David Spencer and Leana (Nathaniel) Spencer.

Juliana was a school teacher for many years in India and retired from Ford Visteon in Bedford where she worked from 1981 to 1999, she was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bedford.

Survivors include her son Deepak Sawyer and wife Vijaya Sawyer; granddaughter, Deepika Sawyer; and sister, Josephine Sawyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.

Amanda was a homemaker and had attended River’s Edge Church.

Debra Kay King, 61, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Aug. 31, 1956, in Beech Grove, she was the daughter of John Pridemore and Vera (Turner) Bustle. She married Mark Steven King May 31, 1978, and he preceded her in death July 16, 2016.

She had been employed at Carpenter Body Works. Debbie loved music and bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She collected owls and wolves.

Survivors include her children, Shawn (Jamica) King of Mitchell, Shayne (JoAnne) King of Mitchell, Shandi (Joe) Gerkin of Oolitic, Crystal (Joe) Lott of Whiteland, and Dustin (Alicia) King of Mitchell; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Brenda Gierke of Indianapolis, Steve Wilson of Heltonville, Gerald Wilson of Kentucky and Roger Turner of Kentucky.

Charles G. Spencer

Charles G. Spencer, 73, of Mitchell, formerly of Milltown, died and went home to be with his Lord on Jan. 3, 2018, at his residence.

He was born on June 27, 1944, in Milltown, the son of the late Oval and Erma Byerly Spencer.

Charles was a faithful and dedicated member of the Mitchell First Church of God, serving in Bertha’s Mission Feeding Ministry, serving with the Hoosier Hills Food Bank monthly food distribution in the FMC, and helping his pastor.

Charles was a devoted witness for Christ and brought many children, adults and friends to church services. He had a generous heart and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

His church will host a Celebration of Life memorial service in his honor at noon on Sunday, Jan. 21, in the church’s Family Ministry Center, 405 N. 12th St., Mitchell. A meal will be served at that time and the church invites all of Charlie’s family and friends to attend.

Billy Elrod

Billy Anderson Elrod, 85, Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Bloomfield and Orleans, passed away on Monday.

Billy was born on Aug. 13, 1932, in Orleans, the son of Melville Anderson and Viola Faith Elrod.

He is survived by his three children, Stephen Elrod of New York, New York, Jan and husband Kent Yake of Bloomfield, and Lanna Elrod-Flynn of Cape Coral, Florida; there are seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ina and husband Joe Bledsoe of French Lick, Donna and husband David Lukie of Vevay and Rita and husband Mike Russell of Bedford; and several relatives and numerous friends.

Billy was retired as an electrical lineman for Crane Naval Weapons Support Center. Billy enjoyed dancing, fishing, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of the Masons, American Legion, the Elks Lodge, Kiwanis, Araba Shriners, Jaycees, Nauti-Skippers, Dine and Dance, and the New Residents Club of Cape Coral. Billy was also a member of the First Christian Church in Cape Coral.

Billy graduated from Orleans High School with the Class of 1950. He served in the United Kingdom during the Korean Conflict Era and Peacetime from June 10, 1950, to September 15, 1953, with the United States Air Force.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Arlen Pope and Pastor Jeff Williams officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Orleans.

He retired from Monroe County School Corporation as the head custodian at Childs Elementary School. He then worked as a receiving clerk for JayC Food Store in Mitchell.

He had attended Gulletts Creek Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening, his family and attending the grandkids’ events.

Hall and wife Maggy of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Taylor and Mya Hall and Dylan Stevenson; his parents, Don and Sarah Myers of Bedford; three brothers, Michael A. Steve had been a firefighter at Naval Surface Warfare Center — Crane, paramedic at Bedford Regional Medical Center, chief deputy of the Marion Township Fire Department, and firefighter for the City of Mitchell.

He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1982, and was an avid knife collector.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

Survivors include his wife, Heather Canfield of Mitchell; sons, Eric Ryan Canfield of Bloomington and Zachary Scot Canfield of Bloomington; granddaughter, Brielle Dawn Canfield of Bedford; his parents, Mike and Sue Canfield of Mitchell; sister, Wendi Wilson of Mitchell; niece, Stephani Wilson; nephew, Matthew Canfield; and great-nephew, Ethan Roberts.

Born March 8, 1943, in Columbus, he was the son of Oscar and Nettie (Coffey) Collins. He married Alyce Rose on June 2, 1980, and she survives.

He retired as the YMCA Bloomington Property Manager after working 20 years. Jerry was a member of the Church of the First Born, and the Orleans Masonic Lodge.

He was an avid golfer. Jerry most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and tinkering in his garage.

Born Sept. 7, 1935, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Edward and Kathleen (Wright) Ellison. She was previously married to Don Maddox and Arch Voris, who both preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School, Class of 1953, and also attended Indiana University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Lorenda was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Lorenda had worked as the Secretary for the Lawrence County Health Department for several years.

Born Aug. 22, 1932 in Bedford, she was the son of Eddie and Edith (Smith) Tarr. He married Sondra Kay Jenkins on Sept. 6, 1958; and she survives.

Bud served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He was a butcher for Kroger for 17 years and went on to run Bob’s Butcher Shop in Oolitic for nine years before retiring.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and remembered by many as a caring, friendly man who loved to serve his customers.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, gardening, nature and the beauty of being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Sondra Kay; three daughters, Taryn (Jeff) Chastain, Tracy (Kevin) Yeary and Amy Jo Tarr. Beloved grandchildren, Matthew Chastain, Jason (Melanie) Chastain, Hannah (Jordan) Burcham and Clinton Yeary; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Peyton, Emily, Dylan and Lillie Chastain; step-grandchildren, Logan and Garrett Blake; and brother, Roy Tarr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Ray; two brothers, Robert and Don Tarr; and grandson, David Chastain.

Born Oct. 27, 1939, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Ezra and Mary Geneva (Wagner) Martindale. She married Daniel Ratkovich on July 30, 1955, and he survives.

Mary had worked at M. Fine & Sons for six years, at RCA with B.E.W. Union for 14 years, and then at General Motors with U.A.W. Local No. 440 for 23 years. She retired in 2002.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel of Bedford; three children, Ricky Ratkovich and wife Janice of Mitchell, Michael Ratkovich and wife Traci, Tina McPike and husband Robert, all of Bedford; a sister, Janet Baker of Springville; a sister-in-law, Velma Jean Martindale of Springville; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, James Emery Martindale.

Born Sept. 16, 1944, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Charles K. and Eileen (Harvey) Baker. He married LaTonia Jo Sorrells on June 19, 1987, and she survives. He was a member of the Teamsters Union No. 135, American Motorcycle Association, Bedford Boat and Sportsman’s Club and a lifetime member of the NRA.

Survivors include his wife, LaTonia of Avoca; one daughter, Denise Knott and husband Andy of St. Louis, Missouri; one grandchild, Ariadne;two stepsons, Kevin Phillips and wife Andrea of Heltonville and William Phillips and wife Janet of Jeffersonville; two grandsons, Cody and Jesse Phillips, both of Huron; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Katherine Lantz, Carolyn Wellman and Judith Mason, all of Bedford; and two brothers, James Baker of Mitchell and Billy Don Baker of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Charles Baker.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Kentucky Ridge Cemetery.

Betty Marie Werskey, 87, of Seymour, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018.

She was born on Aug. 24, 1930, in Fort Ritner, to Hubert and Flo (Baker) Flinn. On Oct. 21, 1951, she married Donald Werskey; he preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2015.

She was a nursing assistant at Schneck Medical Center for 24 1/2 years. After retiring from the hospital, she worked as a caregiver.

She was a member of The Wesleyan Church.

She is survived by her children, Mark Werskey, Cinda (Larry) Foist and Bruce (Karen) Werskey; grandchildren, Matthew Werskey, Gloria (Christopher) Schrader, Stacy (Heikki) Hounshell, Brittney (Aaron) Mang, Bryce (Leah) Werskey and Brooke Werskey; three great-grandchildren, Dakota and Samuel Schrader, and Gabriel Hounshell; sisters, Jennie Ray and Anita Warren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Marvin Flinn; and infant son, Dana Werskey.

Marcia Tolbert, 76, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at her residence.

Born Aug. 24, 1941, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Iva (Williams) Etchison. She married Joseph Norman Tolbert March 31, 1961, and he preceded her in death April 30, 2016.

Marcia was a homemaker, farmer, and had been employed at M. Fine & Son and retired from Dana Corporation. She was a member of Fairview Church of Christ, and loved spending time with her family. Marcia graduated from Huron High School in 1959.

Survivors include her children, Brian (Rebekah) Tolbert of Williams, Paula (Jeff) McKnight of Mitchell, and Christopher (Jenny) Tolbert of Mitchell; grandchildren, Andy McKnight, Laurin Perry, Christopher Tolbert II, Dominic Tolbert, Whitley Tolbert and Alex Brown; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, Ruby Kinder, Louise Terrell, Marie Mundy, Luella Etchison, Lucille Lynch, Lorene Mitchell and Leroy Etchison, preceded her in death.

Emily B. Lee age 87, of Shoals, passed away on Jan. 1, 2018, from complications from a fall she suffered on Nov. 7, 2017.

She was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Shoals, to Frank and Hattie (Beard) Lindley. She married William J. (Bill) Lee on Oct. 13, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Bedford. He preceded her in death on July 23, 2012.

She was employed at NWSC Crane, RCA and the Loogootee Textile, was a member of Samson Hill Church and was a graduate of Shoals High School Class of 1948. She loved to read, do puzzles and play cards.

Survivors include three daughters Diana Key of Bedford, Kay (Bruce) Terwiske of Ireland and Shelley (Ronald) Allbright of French Lick; three grandsons, Brent Terry, Bryant Trambaugh and Barrett Allbright; seven great-grandchildren, Cassie and Nicole Terry, Kayla, Carson and Coen Trambaugh and David and Daniel Allbright.

She was the last surviving member of her family and was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Warren, John, Taylor, Coleman and Jacob Lindley; and sisters, Ethel Fitch, Geneva Merrit, Virginia Duncan, Clone Qualkenbush and Barbara Marsh; and one son-in-law, Roy E. Key.

Roland E. Gaines

Roland E. Gaines, 81, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born May 24, 1936, in Bedford, he was the son of Ray and Addie (Clements) Gaines. He married Patsy Lou Williams on May 26, 1957, at Pinhook.

Roland was a proud employee of General Motors having been hired in August of 1962. He was a machine repairman having become an expert in hydraulics. He was the first Quality Award winner presented to a General Motors employee. Roland retired in 1992 stating that he was leaving the best job in the plant.

Roland was a member of the first board of directors of the Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department, the first board of directors of the Hoosier Hills Credit Union, and served on the board of the South Lawrence Water Corporation, later becoming the manager. He was also a member of the Lawrence County Council.

He was a Boy Scout Master of Troop 339 of the First Baptist Church in Bedford and saw his sons reach the rank of Eagle and Life Scouts. Roland was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mitchell, and served as chairman of the deacons.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Gaines of Mitchell; sons, Joe F. (Amy) Gaines of Greenville, North Carolina and Jimmy D. (Paula) Gaines of Merritt Island, Florida; grandchildren, Heather (Jacob) Anderson, David Gaines, Samantha (Stephen) Cecil and Taylor Gaines; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Jayden Anderson, Emily and Eli Gaines and Jace and Alivia Cecil; and siblings, Betty (Tom) Gerkin of Bedford and Raymond (Jeri) Gaines of Bedford.

His parents and siblings, Mary Guthrie, Marjorie Wright and Jeanette Hudach, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Reggie Clark officiating. Burial will be in Knott Cemetery.

Born Aug. 11, 1941, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Cole R. Easley and Maudie (Taylor) Morgan. She married Franklin Chastain June 14, 1981, and he preceded her in death June 19, 2015.

Marge retired from General Motors and was the owner of Florals by Mac. She enjoyed flowers and her dogs.

Survivors include her children, Kimberly Ann (Wesley) Hall of Bedford, Kelly Jean (Amanda) Cormican of Ohio and Chuck (Jamie) Chastain of Bedford; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and siblings, Betty Lawyer of Orleans, Buzz Morgan of Orleans and Joe Morgan of Martin County.

Born July 22, 1950, in Springfield, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Robert Donald and Myrtle Louise (Brown) Lamberth. She married James Leonard Zollman April 11, 1974.

Donna retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center and Crane Naval Base with 38 years of service. She was a 50-year member of the Scottsburg Order of Eastern Star. Donna was a very loving and wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, James Leonard Zollman of Mitchell; sons, Jason Matthew (Jori) Zollman of Martinsville and Joshua Michael Zollman of Mitchell; grandchildren, Lennon, Sullivan and Finley Zollman; siblings, Linda (Kenny) Fields of Jeffersonville and Terry Malcheski of Florida; nieces and nephews, Amy Bagshaw of Louisville, Tony (Anne) Bagshaw of Lawrenceburg and Alan Malcheski of California; and great-nieces and nephews; and very special longtime friends, Zach and Glinda Ellison, Kathy Lynch, Roger Bagshaw, James Tabor and Cherie Kinder.

Louise M. Taylor, 79, of Mitchell, passed away at Mitchell Manor on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018.

Born Aug. 11, 1938, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Orville and Bernice (Hauersperger) Colvin.

Louise was raised in Hayden community all her life and graduated from Hayden High School in 1956. After graduation she moved to Indianapolis and worked at Wasson’s Hair Salon. She then opened her own salon in her home. Later Louise moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where she lived for the next 20 years and continued her career as a hairdresser.

Louise enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing cards. While she was in Florida she helped start a chapter of Al-Anon.

Louise is survived by her children, Sandy (Joe) Byrum and Keith Taylor; granddaughters, Brooke Byrum, Casey (Toby) Wedgewood and Cecily Taylor; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Dan (Kathy) Colvin and John Colvin; and sisters, Carol (Charlie) Helton, Jean Day and Donna Sullivan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jim Colvin and Kenny Colvin; and sister, Betty Jaynes.

Jerry Donald Allen, 80, of Madison, formerly of Bedford, entered this life on Jan. 15, 1937, in Bedford. Jerry died on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at 4:32 a.m. at the River Terrace Health Campus in downtown Madison.

He was the loving son of the late Walter L. and Alma Henson Allen. He was a 1954 graduate of Bedford High School and then attended the School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. Jerry served honorably in the United States Army and was honorably discharged from the National Guard.

On May 26, 1956 Jerry was united in marriage to Susan Kay Menaugh in Bloomington. This happy union of 61 years was blessed with sons, Don and Stephen.

Jerry served as Vice President of the Bedford National Bank in Bedford for 21 years. In August 1977 the family moved to Madison and he served as Vice President of Madison First Federal and on the Board of Directors as well retiring in 1999 from River Valley National Bank.

Jerry was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford and after moving to Madison he attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Madison. He also held membership in the Rotary Club in Madison, the Elks Club in Bedford and Madison, the Bedford Jaycees, the Bedford Chamber of Commerce and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.

In September of 1983 he was honored with being commissioned an honorary captain of the Belle of Louisville. Jerry enjoyed golf, fishing, being with his grandchildren and taking them fishing.

Jerry will be missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Susan Kay Menaugh Allen of Madison; his loving sons, Don Allen and wife Suzanne of Dallas, Texas and Stephen Allen of Commerce Township, Michigan; his loving grandchildren, Sarah Flores and husband Mike, Blake Allen, Kelly Allen, Amanda Allen and Abigail Allen; his sister, Barbara Fish of Mitchell; his sister-in-law, Ruth Allen of Mitchell; his brother-in-law, P. Thomas Menaugh and his wife Karen of Phoenix, Arizona; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter L. Allen; his mother, Alma Henson Allen Wever; his daughter-in-law, Melissa Ann Martin Allen, died April 15, 2015; and his brothers, Walter Allen and Mike Allen.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, by Pastor Dennis Ingle at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Graveside services will follow Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Green Hill Cemetery, 1202 18th Street in Bedford.

Shirley Ann Terrell, 77, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 14, 1940, in Bedford, the daughter of Oral and Faye (Hobson) Keller. On Oct. 18, 1956, she married William A. “Bill” Terrell Jr., and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 18, 2006. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2009.

Shirley is survived by her sons, William Terrell III and wife Amy of Flat Rock and Jerry Terrell of Morristown; daughters, Debbie Hagen of Monticello, Teresa Ballman and husband Bryan of Waynesville, Ohio, and Karen Hauk and husband Ted of Carthage; sister, Barbara Darlene Ellison and husband Richard of Bedford; grandchildren, Matthew Hagen, Heidi Hagen Lightner and husband Brad, Hannah Hagen Rizor and husband John, Nathan Ballman, Ryan Ballman, Justin Hauk, Jordan Hauk and Allyson Hauk; great-grandchildren, Ava, Elliot, Vera, Paysen, Aleah, Jackson and Ayden; and nephews, Mark and Robert Ellison

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald “Duke” Keller; son-in-law, Stephen Hagen; and nephew, Roger Keller.

Shirley was a dedicated member of the Morristown Church of the Nazarene for over 55 years. She was elected as a steward/board member for several years, conducting numerous tasks around the church and helping wherever needed.

She retired from NOK Freudenburg, as an inspector, with over 30 years of service.

Shirley cherished the time she spent with her family, both cooking and hosting them for family dinners. Her family felt very blessed to be a part of her life and she will be dearly missed.

She also enjoyed gardening, reading the Bible and inspirational books and she shared Bill’s love of music.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown and from 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the Morristown Church of the Nazarene, 556 E. Main St. in Morristown.

Born Dec. 30, 1963, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Don and Karen (Anderson) Strunk. She married Nelson Trent Pruett April 1, 1995.

Becky had been employed at Snow’s Drive-In and Dana Corporation. She graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School in 1982.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, and lots of family time. She loved going to Gatlinburg, especially Cades Cove, and antique tractor and machinery shows. Becky was especially fond of bears, hearts, and barns.

Survivors include her husband, Nelson Trent Pruett of Mitchell; daughter, Emma Rose Pruett of Mitchell; son, Justin Bruce Pruett of Mitchell; brother, Timothy (Jamie) Strunk of Bedford; stepmother, Sandy Strunk of Bedford; and mother-in-law, Wanda Pruett of Huron.

Ann was a bookkeeper for Dotts Excavating. She was a member of Woodville Baptist Church and served on the board of directors of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club where she was a lifetime member.

Ann enjoyed spending time with her grandbabies and fishing on the river.

John F. Riley, 70, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at his residence.

Born Nov. 24, 1947, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, he was the son of Woodrow and Oza (Oxford) Riley. He married Cubalene Cottengain July 21, 1967, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in July.

John was an engineer and retired from Westinghouse, ABB, and most recently was employed at GKN Sinter Metals in Salem. He was a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cubalene Riley of Bedford; children, Angel Dawn Riley (Chris) Hampton of Edgewater, Florida and Jason Branden (Kacey) Riley of Bedford; grandchildren, Abigail and Emily Sych; and sister, Mary Gibbons of Salem.

His parents; daughter, Angela D. Riley; and sister, Betty Wingler, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Janet G. (Umphress) Edwards

Janet Gayle Edwards, 75, of Norman, passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Dec. 28, 2017, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, Bedford.

Born Sept.13, 1942 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Emory and Olive (Bailey) Umphress. Janet married Dorsey Edwards Jr. on Oct. 25, 1963, at Mundell Christian Church; and he survives. She was a homemaker, graduate of Heltonville High School and a member of Mundell Christian Church.

Janet enjoyed knitting and making dish cloths for family and friends. She was always known for having a book in her hand.

She is survived by her husband, Dorsey of Norman; daughter, Kimberly (Gerald “Doug” ) Whitted of Norman; son, James D. (Marcella) Edwards of Heltonville; four grandchildren, Caleb (Jodi) Whitted of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Micah Whitted of Ft. Meyers, Florida, and James Cody Edwards and Bret Edwards both of Heltonville; great-grandchild, Mary Claire Whitted; sisters, Lois Hearth of Bedford, Phyllis Kline of Bedford, Evelyn Jane Ballard of Brownstown, Donna Staggs of Bedford, Rhonda Parsley of Heltonville and Carol Morrison of Heltonville; and two brothers, Edwin “Bud” Umphress of Columbus, and twin brother Jerry Dale Umphress of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Wilma Catherine Umphress in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Mundell Christian Church, with John Wisely officiating. Burial will be in Mundell Christian Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Mundell Christian Church.

Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral homes are handling the arrangements.
