Norma Staggs

Norma Staggs age 93 of Bedford passed away on Friday February 26, 2021 at 2:15 PM at Garden Villa in Bedford.

She was born on January 2, 1928 in Clark County, Illinois to Fred and Minnie (Haddix) Baker. She married Harvey Staggs and he preceded her in death. Norma was a caregiver.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Neaveill and her caregiver and special friend, Carolyn Allen, several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, George Baker and six sisters, Jane, Ruth, Doris, Mary Lou, Edith and Wuanita.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday March 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Springville West Cemetery, Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.

David Martin “Moe” Earl

Sept. 05, 1956 — Feb. 26, 2021

David Martin “Moe” Earl, 64, passed away Friday, February 26, at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born September 5, 1956, in Bedford, he was the son of Claude V. and Joan Lee (Bell) Earl.

David was a farmer and retired from Stone City Products. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1975. David loved spending time with his grandkids and being outdoors.

Surviving are his children, Jamie (Tim) Pridemore of Mitchell, Evan (Jeanene) Earl of Mitchell; grandchildren, Nathan Miller, Lucas Miller, Aiden Pridemore, Ike Johnson, Ryde Earl, and Natalia Swaagman; siblings, Douglas (Jana) Earl of Mitchell, Lea Angela “Angie” (Adrian) Slaughter of Mitchell.

His parents and grandson, Kade William Johnson, preceded him in death.

Cremation was chosen with no service.

Carrol Eugene Mathis

Jan. 16, 1931 — Feb. 26, 2021

Carrol Eugene Mathis, 90, formerly the Mayor of Buddha, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born January 16, 1931, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Victor E. and Alberta (Myers) Mathis. He married Joan Lee Bush April 19, 1952.

Carrol retired from Kaiser Aluminum. He was a 1949 graduate of Tunnelton High School and a member of the Free Methodist Church. Carrol loved his John Deere tractors.

Carrol was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and the recipient of two bronze stars.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Mathis of Bedford; children, Cathy Jo (John) Root of Salem, Todd Steven (Mary) Mathis of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Lori (Brandon) McIntosh, Jason (Sarah) Mathis, Amanda (Robert) Loy, Amy (Shawyn) Ho, and Rochelle Mathis; great-grandchildren, Adalynn McIntosh, Jaxon McIntosh, Brayden Loy, Ava Loy, Layla Mathis and Sawyer Mathis; sister, Nancy Bramer of Clarksville.

His parents; son, Brian Eugene Mathis; and siblings, Max Mathis, Howard Mathis, June Hudson, Willa Faris, and Marie Borden, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Tunnelton Cemetery with Reverend Fred Barger and Todd Mathis officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Charles Robert “Bob” Harden Jr.

Jan. 09, 1957 — Jan. 31, 2021

Charles Robert “Bob” Harden Jr., age 64, of Ellettsville died early Sunday morning at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital due to complications of Covid 19.

Born January 9th, 1957 in Monroe County, he was the son of Charles Robert and Clara Ellen (Lucas) Harden Sr. He loved his family unconditionally and was married to the love of his life for 46 years.

He was a licensed Minister with the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ from June 1994 until his death. He pastored the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Ellettsville from 1995-2003. He had worked for General Electric until he was disabled in 2005. His greatest joy came from being able to play music and preach the word of God. He was a member of Apostolic Faith Assembly in Bedford.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel (Kinser) Harden of Ellettsville; two daughters, Julia (Harden) Eads of Bloomington and Jennifer Harden of Ellettsville; three brothers, Melvin Harden and David Harden both of Bloomfield, Michael (Annetta) Harden of Bloomington; three sisters, Shirley Sexton, April Hammond,and Donna Plummer all of Bloomington; and one granddaughter, Gracie Eads of Bloomington.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Charles Robert and Clara Ellen Harden Sr., his sister Cathy Harden, and his son Jeffrey Robert Harden.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at Apostolic Faith Assembly 501 5th Street Bedford, IN 47421 on March 6th at 1pm. Condolences can be sent to Mabel Harden.

Pattye L. (White) West, 75, of Bedford, passed away at 2:00 am on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Westminster Village North in Indianapolis.

Born December 23, 1945 in Terre Haute, IN, she was the daughter of Charles White and Mary (King) Davis. She married Jim West in 1964 and he survives. She was a homemaker and attended the Bedford Free Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jim, of Bedford; two daughters, Karen West of New Palestine and Kelly Frietchen and husband, Doug, of Sterling, VA; four grandchildren, Kelsey West, Nick West, Rachel Frietchen, and Samantha Freitchen; one brother, Mike White, of Hymera, IN; two step-brothers, Steve Davis, of Shelborn, IN and Tom Davis, of Terre Haute.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her aunt, Louise White, her uncles, Dick White and wife, Mary, Maurice White and wife, Carrie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 2nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Elkton, KY. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, March 1st at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Steven Micheal Jones, 25, of Bedford, passed away February 23, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Bedford to Rickie Alan Jones and Lori (Sullivan) Jones.

Steven was a graduate of Bedford-North Lawrence High School, class of 2014, and received an Associates degree from Ivy Tech. He was employed at Catalent of Bloomington.

Surviving to cherish Steven’s memory are his mother, Lori (Sullivan) Jones of Springville; brothers, Zachary Jones of Bedford and Conner Jones of Springville; maternal grandmother, Catherine “Katie” Sullivan; paternal grandparents, Rick and Mona Jones; uncles, Tim (Beth) Sullivan, Chris Sullivan, Mike (Cynthia) Sullivan and Kevin Jones; aunts, Sarah Jones, Theresa (David) Stuffle and Treva Jones (William Peckham) and several cousins.

Steven was preceded in death by his father, Rickie Jones in 2009; grandfather, Jack Sullivan, Jr.; uncle, Steven Wayne Jones; and aunt, Barbara (Sullivan) Jackson.

Services for Steven will be held Monday, March 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Bedford with Phil Thorne officiating. Visitation will be Monday from noon until the service hour at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Margaret R. Sceifers, 81, of Mitchell, died at 12:55 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the White River Lodge in Bedford.

Born July 17, 1939 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of Stanley Durant and Edith (Levigne) Durant. She attended school in St. John, Canada. She married William Sceifers in Newport, Rhode Island on January 10, 1964 and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2015. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberley A. West and husband, Mark Alan, of Shoals and Elizabeth McCorquindale, of Canada; one son, William Sheldon Sceifers, and wife Nicole, of Fayetteville, NC; three granddaughters, Erica Divine and husband Alex, of Loogootee, Bailey and Sydnee Sceifers, both of Fayetteville, NC; one grandson, Matthew Alan West, of Shoals; four great-grandchildren, Chloe Divine, Stella Divine, Elouise Divine, and Blake West; four sisters, Theresa Smith, Donna Van Leeuwan, Betty Bosco, and Jean Donaldson and two brothers, Donald, and John Durant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Audrey Lennox and Dianne Orr; two brothers, Fred and David Durant.

Margaret’s wishes were to be cremated. A private service will be held at a later date at Green Hill Cemetery.

Carrie Lou Spires, 65, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at I.U. Health Hospital in Bedford. She was born in Lawrence County to Mildred (Johnson) Sykes and Chet Sykes. She married Tony Spires and he preceded her in death in 2012.

Carrie was a graduate of Bedford High School and a health care worker at Garden Villa for more than 20 years.

Surviving to cherish Carrie’s memory are her two sons, Joseph Hignite and Stephen Fitzgerald; siblings, Wanda Stewart, Betty Kern, Lester Treece, Dallas (Betty) Sykes, Shirley (Andy) Nelson, Donna (Casey) Clark, Faye (David) Spicer and James Sykes; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Carrie in death were her husband, Tony; and one sister, Pam Sykes.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no services.

Milagros B. Willoughby, 74, Bedford, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, at IU Health Bloomington in Bloomington following a brief illness.

She was born on Feb. 3, 1948, in the Philippines, to Andres Catalan and Nina Catalan.

She worked in production in several factories over the years.

Milagros was a member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved gardening and enjoyed her flowers. She was also a very active lady, and very independent. She was a giving person and was always willing to help others.

She is survived by her children, Jeannette, Michael, Tony and Dwight; 16 brothers and sisters; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Milagros was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Roger Willoughby.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, with the Rev. David Hellmann officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Judith Rose (Judy) Strauser, 88, of Springville, went home to be with the Lord at 1:00 am on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born January 9, 1933 in Bedford, she was the daughter of John Lee and Iona (Jerrells) Williams. She married Philip Dwight Strauser on August 25, 1955 and he preceded her in death on September 16, 1992. She graduated from Needmore High School with the class of 1951. She retired as a bookkeeper for Citizens National Bank and attended the First Church of God in Mitchell. She enjoyed listening to gospel and bluegrass music and often attended the gospel and bluegrass music festivals.

Survivors include nieces, Shirley Lynch of Carlisle, Mary Buher, of Bloomington, Marilyn Robinson, of Evansville, Becky Terry, of Oolitic, Janet Lynn and husband, David, of Bedford; nephews, Stan Adams, of AZ, Bill Adams, of IL, Jerry Brinegar of Judah, Lee Brinegar, of Bloomington; three special friends, Kenny Turpen, Roger and Cricket Harper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Roy Neal Williams.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 27th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Robert Courson officiating. Herman E. Deckard

Sept. 12, 1925 — Feb. 21, 2021

Herman E. Deckard, 95, of Heltonville, passed away at 5:23 am on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born September 12, 1925, in Bedford, he was the son of Curtis and Goldie (Adams) Deckard. He married Thelma Lively on July 3, 1948 and she survives. He attended the Needmore High School. He was very patriotic and loved America. He joined the U.S. Army serving during WW II. He become involved in the stone industry at the age of 22 and continued until he fully retired at age 83.

Herman loved to travel, camp, and spend winters in Florida, however, his best times were spent with his family. He was a man of deep faith, attending Donica Church of God for thirty-five years. He currently worshipped at the Free Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Thelma, of Heltonville; three children, Sherry Muller (John), Richard Deckard (Debbie), and Roger Deckard (Donna); a son-in-law, Barry Norman; grandchildren, Lauri Dukes, Kerry Dodds (Mark), Stacy Whalen (David), Leah Beardslee, Stacey Moore (Chris), Lyna Anderson (Jay), Kelly Martindale (Scott), Kyle Norman, Eric Holtsclaw, Brad Branham (Diana), and Shad Deckard; great-grandchildren, Kenny Niflis (Ashley), Cody George (Alli), Clayton George (Kaylee), Wyatt Deckard, Cassidy Hazel (Mason), Dillon Eagen (Kennedy), Alaina Sergent (Gabe), Pharyne Gremore (Corey), Ruthie Dodds, Shepherd Dodds, Dallas Dukes, III, Dalton Dukes, Drake Dukes, Chyanne Prince (Jordan), Hunter Branham, Gavin Branham, Lauren Anderson, Ellie Anderson, Alex Adams (Ashli), Hope Beardslee, Olivia Beardslee, Nick Norman, Cooper Branham, Kelcey Scheidler (Nick), and Shelby Fields; great-great grandchildren, Emberlee and Hallee Hazel, Axel George, Aiden Sergent, Colton Ridge, Haedyn and Harley Prince, Vivienne Scheidler, Zelie and Jonas Gremore, Braylan Dukes, Abe, Archie, and Ada Adams.

John “Johnny” E. Johnson, III, 23, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021.

Born March 8, 1997 in Bedford, he was the son of John Johnson, Jr. and Amber (Ritchison) Jones. He enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing and archery.

Survivors include his mother, Amber Jones, of Bedford; his father, John Johnson, Jr. (Rachel), of Mitchell; the mother of his child, Tamara Mains, of Paoli; his son, Waylon Mains; three brothers, Michael Ritchison, Garrett Jones, and Sean Jones, all of Bedford; grandparents, Doug and Terri Ritchison, of Bedford, Rita Johnson, of Mitchell; great-grandparents, Peggy Ritchison and William “Bill” Crane, both of Bedford; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John “JJ” Johnson, Sr.; his great-grandfather, Don Ritchison; his great-grandmother, Delores Crane; a sister-in-law, Cecelia Arrowsling Ritchison.

Edwin D. Cahill, 81, of Shoals, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 at his residence. He was born August 27, 1939 in Lawrence County to Howard and Ruth Cahill. He married Donna Littrell and she survives.

Edwin retired from General Motors in Bedford and was of the Christian Faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran, past member of the American Legion Cecil C. Martin Lodge Post 250 and the Moose Lodge. He loved hunting, fishing and racing.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Donna; five children, Amber (Jeremy) Hedge, Heather (Bob) Cahill, LaDonna Hacker, Mike (June) Cahill and Jeff Cahill; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wendell Cahill; and three sisters, Evelyn Baker, Lois Cahill and Mary Henson.

Services for Edwin will be Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor Chris Babcock officiating. Pamela Elaine (Mitchell) Deckard

Nov. 14, 1950 — Feb. 20, 2021

Pamela Elaine (Mitchell) Deckard, 70, of Bedford went to her Heavenly reward on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 14, 1950 in Lawrence Co., the daughter of Fred and Mary Jean (George) Mitchell. She married the love of her life, Danny L. Deckard, and he survives.

Pam was a teacher. She first taught as a summer kindergarten teacher at the old Williams school. She later taught in the North Lawrence Community School System, first at Tunnelton Elementary and finished her career at Springville Elementary.

Pam was a devout follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of New Union Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and served as a children’s church volunteer and Vacation Bible School teacher. Pam’s favorite verse in her later years was in Psalms 73. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Survivors include her husband, Danny; a daughter, Melanie Johnson; a son, Matthew (Sandy) Deckard; grandchildren, Amber (Kyle) Hatfield, Kyla Deckard, Cheylee Jones, Zayden Turner, Zindayiah Jones and Kaysin Jones; a brother, Rick (Judy) Mitchell and their son, Derek Chad Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Jeffrey Lyle.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Ralph Mynatt, she was a mother of 4 children, grandmother of 5 and great grandmother of 6.

Carl Oren Farley

Sept. 26, 1940 — Feb. 20, 2021

Carl Oren Farley, 80, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born September 26, 1940, in Bedford, he was the son of Carl Howard and Vivian Helen (Kendall) Farley. He married Sharron DeMoss August 7, 1987, and she preceded him in death December 7, 2014.

Carl retired from military administration as a master sergeant. Carl was a past master and member of Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.&A.M., York Rite, Order of Eastern Star No. 503, and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was a 50 year member of American Legion No. 250 and the honor guard, White River Humane Society, Spring Mill Fraternal Order of Police No. 172, and Tri-County Antique Tractor and Machinery Association.

Carl served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959-1967 and was stationed in Korea. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard from 1967-1995.

His parents; wife; and granddaughter, Jennifer Harrison, preceded him in death.

Carl was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and Jack Taylor will officiate at the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, February 24, at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the church.

Nancy Rebecca Millikan, 83, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 in Bedford.

She was born in Bedford on June 24, 1937 to Charlie and Ruth (Mundy) Wagoner. She married Wayne Millikan on February 10, 2007 and he survives.

Nancy was a graduate of Shawswick High School and had worked for many years at Credit Thrift. She attended East Oolitic Community Church.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Wayne; one son, Brian (Debbie) Pugh; one daughter, Susan (Schel) McGregor; two step-daughters, Kimberly (Steve) Mills and Theresa (John) Lemons; one step-son, Tim (Shari) Millikan; seven grandchildren, Heather (Rob) Lowery, Schad (Megan) McGregor, Schalen McGregor, Hanna Pugh, Tyler (Jessica) Gassman, Elaina (Trevor) Johnson and Blane Horrell; three great grandchildren, Campbell, Camden and Madison; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded by in death by her parents; her first husband, Larry Pugh, the father of her children; husband, Marvin “Mose” Brock; one daughter, Lisa Pugh: one son, Steve Pugh; and several brothers and sisters.

Rowena Cowden

Rowena Cowden passed away peacefully under Hospice Care on Feb. 12, 2021, at Bloomington Hospital.

Rowena was born June 5, 1935, in Lawrence County. She was the daughter of Olin Hawkins and Dorothy (Deckard) Hawkins.

Rowena was a tireless worker. She was employed at RCA for several years, retiring in 1978. Raised in the Depression era, she learned early on the value of a dollar and was extremely frugal. Through savings and investments, she eventually became a successful businesswoman, owning several businesses in the Bloomington area.

A lover of music, and a devoted Elvis fan, she displayed Elvis memorabilia throughout her home. She loved her Elvis.

In the 1950s, Jam Sessions were held in various locations around downtown Bloomington. Rowena would head downtown on Saturday nights to sing at these sessions. She was always bringing home autographed pictures of those who had envisions of obtaining a recording contract. One friend (Bobby Helms) achieved his goal.

She was a people person and loved being in the midst of a crowd, fellowshipping and reminiscing of days gone by. She enjoyed gathering around the table at her mother’s home for dinner. She would brag to others what a wonderful cook her mother was. To her, no one could cook like her mom. There are many wonderful memories of Rowena. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Rowena was of Pentecostal faith.

Rowena is survived by two sisters, Velma Hamm of Bloomington and Darlene Lovings of Spencer; several nephews, nieces, cousins; and one aunt.

She was a loving and nurturing mother to her son, Ronald, who preceded her in death this past December. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Birtle Hawkins, Berlin Hawkins and Noble Hawkins; a sister, Dorval Hawkins; paternal grandparents, Grover and Pearl Hawkins; maternal grandparents, Lee and Levesta Deckard; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Visitation will be from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington.

Funeral service will be private due to COVID-19 restrictions, but may be viewed through The Funeral Chapel Facebook page beginning at 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday. Pastor Brie Lycan will officiate. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paralyzed Veterans, Wounded Warriors, or Riley Children’s Hospital.

Robert E. Ray, 90, of Orleans, passed away at 9:00 PM on February 16, 2021 at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

He was born June 6, 1930 in Bedford, IN, the son of Ralph and Marguerite (Thurman) Ray. He was a graduate of Orleans High School, class of 1948, a semi-truck driver for many years. Robert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended First Baptist Church and was a member of Teamsters Union.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Slaughter (Brent) of Orleans and Denise Money of Bloomington, IN; two sons, Garry W. Ray of Leesburg, IN and Robert “Bobby” Ray Jr. (Carolyn) of Parowan, Utah; six grandchildren, Trent, Ashley, Michele, Kara Jean, Colton and Walker and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom and Jackie Ray.

The funeral will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Greg Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.

He was born May 29, 1930, in Orleans, the son of James B. Whalin Sr. and Nannie L. (Holland) Whalin. He married Anna Jeanette (Holsapple) Whalin on Oct. 28, 1949, and she survives.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Orleans and attended Poseyville Church. He worked many years at Riverview Farms and was a realtor, property manager and an insurance agent. He was a past member of IOOF.

He was an avid fan of UK basketball and enjoyed going to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, with family.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Jeanette of Orleans; one daughter, Sherry (Jim) Wells of Orleans; one son, Randy Whalin of Orleans; two grandchildren, Shawn and Dustin (Trina) Whalin; two great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Bill, Bobby, Jessie, Carolyn and Patty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter-in-law, Judy Whalin; one great-grandson, Jacob Whalin; one sister, Lois Babcock; and one brother, Wayne Whalin.

She was born in Lawrence County on October 23, 1940 to Carl and Betty Overly. Phyllis married David Lipscomb on June 1, 1962 at the Heltonville Baptist Church and he survives. She was a homemaker and member of the Bartlettsville Christian Church.

She was born on March 4, 2004, in Bloomington, to John and Pam Phillips.

Clifford Ray Barnes, 97, of Bedford died at IU Health in Bedford on Sunday, February 14, 2021.

He was born in Beech Bluff, TN on July 17, 1923, the 6th of 8 children born to William Virgil Barnes and Myrtle Stokes Barnes.

Cliff graduated from Beech Bluff High School in 1941. He served in the Army from Feb. 1943 to Feb. 1946. He attended Union University at Jackson, TN.

Starting in 1949, Cliff worked 12 years for Western Electric Company installing central telephone office equipment. During this time, he worked in various cities throughout Louisiana and Tennessee.

In 1953 he married Mary Lou Dennison of Maysville, KY and had 2 wonderful daughters, Jennifer Lynn and Lisa Ann. In 1961 Cliff’s family moved to Huntsville, AL where he worked for the Army at Redstone Arsenal. He later worked for NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center.

In 1968 Cliff’s family moved to Bedford and he worked for the Navy at NSWC from which he retired in 1985. After retirement, he was a volunteer Red Cross driver and spent a lot of time visiting people in nursing homes.

Cliff was an avid golfer and although not a great golfer, he was proud of his 2 holes in one and his eagle on the par4 number 7 at Otis. He also loved to play checkers, chess and bridge. Before the coronavirus hit, he and his 3 special friends, Jerry Mullis, Lowell Dawson and Jim Hoffman, played checkers and chess every Thursday.

Cliff loved his family and enjoyed the tradition of celebrating birthdays and holidays together. He was proud of his heritage and visited his family in TN often.

Cliff is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou, his daughters Lynn (Vince) Endris and Lisa (Roger) Hoskins, 2 granddaughters and 6 great grandchildren, his sister Ola Mae Lamb and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23rd at the Free Methodist Church with Pastors Reed Beard and Mike Courtney officiating. Nancy Sue Terrell, 82, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born March 9 ,1938 in Martinsville, IN, she was the daughter of Owen and Hazel Decius. She married Gary Terrell on November 26, 1983; and he survives.

Nancy was the co-owner of Lawrence County Auto Sales in Bedford and attended Dive Christian Church. Nancy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anybody that knew Nancy would say she never met a stranger.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Nancy include her husband, Gary; son, Tony (Tammy) Acuff; daughter, Jill Key; stepson, Bradley Dean Terrell; five grandchildren, Joey Acuff, Steven and Indigo Brant, Stephanie Brant and Kristina Acuff; several great-grandchildren.

He attended Owensburg High School through his Junior year and was a 1949 graduate of Oolitic High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Popcorn Christian Church. Keith retired from Crane’s Field Storage and Inspection Division.

Survivors include his two sons, Kenneth Roberts and wife Betty, of San Diego, CA, and Brian Roberts of Bloomfield; two daughters Kathy Diaz and husband Rudy, of San Diego, CA and Elyse Galizio and husband Chris of Cleveland, OH; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Miranda, Jessica, Kyle, Ben, Edwin, and Florence; several great grandchildren; and one brother, Glen Roberts and wife Glenda, of Frankfort, IN.

Born March 9, 1936 she was the daughter of Floyd and Fatima Lee (Jones) Lee. She married Eli Taylor, Jr. on November 7, 1952 and he preceded her in death on August 6, 2006. Vivian retired from RCA after working 31 years. She was a member of the Hilltop Pentecostal Church in Avoca.

Survivors include two daughters; Sharon Winston and Danny of Bedford, Deborah Wilson and husband Joe of Bedford, and one son, Ben Taylor and wife Tina of Bedford; six grandchildren: Shlonda Morris, Chad Shifflett, Shandy Blackwell, Sarah Taflinger, Stephanie Miller, and Katelyn Bruce; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Dallas Lee of Bedford.

Debra Marie “Debi” (Rust) Scherschel, 65, of Highland, Illinois, passed away at 8:05 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, at her home.

Debi was born Jan. 16, 1956, in Herrin, Illinois, a daughter of the late Duane Rust and Doris J. “Suni” and Robert N. “Bob” Lee. On June 7, 1980, Debi married Dennis C. Scherschel at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, Illinois, and he survives.

October of 1980, the newlywed couple took their dog, Boo, and the rest of their belongings and moved to live on the mountainside near Joseph, Oregon, where they began their marriage. After other moves, around 1985, the Scherschels moved to Highland, Illinois, where they have resided.

Debi graduated from Mount Vernon High School. She retired from Kwapis, Dyer, Knox and Miller after 32 years of dedicated service as a dental assistant and office manager. She enjoyed spending time on the back patio with her husband and family and traveling with friends and family. Debi was a loving mother, wife, nana, aunt, sister, cousin and friend. Her most favorite role was being a nana to her three grandchildren.

In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Kira Scherschel of Chatham, Illinois; a daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Chris Noeth of Maryville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Jonah Scherschel, Josie Scherschel and Henry Noeth; a sister and brother-in-law, Delinda and Larry Bowling of Bloomington, Indiana; two special family members, Jarret and Jacob Sisson; many nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family; and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Darrin Rust.

In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 200 N. Lange Street in Maryville, Illinois, from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral mass at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, with Father Rob Johnson as celebrant. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

Charles Michael VanMeter, 65, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021, at his home.

Born August 2, 1955, in Mitchell, he was the son of Harry William Burton and Margaret Ann (VanMeter) Melton. He married Sandra Sue Jones February 21, 2004, and she preceded him in death August 16, 2019.

Charles retired from the State of Indiana and had served in security and as a correction officer.

Charles was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his step-sons, Marty Johnson of Bedford, Kevin Johnson of Bedford; siblings, Rick VanMeter of Bedford, Donna Diamond of Indiana, Butch VanMeter of Bedford, Marla Salazar of Mitchell, Elizabeth Parks of Scottsburg.

His parents; stepfather, Loyed Melton, wife; daughter, Rosemarie VanMeter, step-son, David Eugene Johnson; and siblings, Melissa Overstreet and Loyed Thomas Melton, Jr., preceded him in death.

June Elizabeth Pierce, 94, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 10, 2021.

June was born to Mitchell and Alice Staggs on June 1, 1926, in Oolitic.

A member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing old hymns, praising God and fellowshipping with friends. In her younger years you would find her “tickling the ivory keys” of the piano.

June is preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell and Alice Staggs; her sisters, Eva Anderson and Gail Armstrong; her brothers, Dwight Staggs and Vollie Staggs; her husband, Norman Pierce; and her beloved daughter, Brenda Pyle.

She is survived by her brother, Danny Staggs; her son-n-law, Ray Pyle; her grandchildren, Sean Owens, Destiny Watkins and Dathan Pyle; and her great-grandchildren, Skyler, Brenden and Jocelyn Watkins and Alexis, Brooklyn and Colton Pyle.

There will be a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

Mary Frances Edwards, 80, of Mitchell, passed away at 1:58 AM at Garden Villa, Bedford.

She was born June 7, 1940 in Lawrence County, the daughter of Chester and Mable Carter. Mary was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Mitchell. She previously worked as a waitress for several years.

She is survived by one daughter, Caroline Carter; one brother, James Carter; one granddaughter, Teri Miessen; four great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Miessen and six siblings.

The funeral will be at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the First Apostolic Church in Mitchell with Pastor Robert Burton officiating and a visitation will one hour prior to service time.

Clifford Bard “Jack” Love, Jr., 82, of Gentry Park in Bloomington, formally of Bedford, died Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington, Indiana.

Cliff, “Jackie”, to his dear mother, was born on November 1, 1938 to Clifford Bard Sr., and Pauline (Chenault) Love in Lawrence County, Indiana. An only child, Jackie was born early, weighing only 3 ¼ pounds. He used to joke that he spent the first few weeks of his life sleeping in a dresser drawer due to his small size.

Jack graduated from Shawswick High School in May 1957.

At the age of 21, Jack left home and spent two years studying to be an electrician. At 23, he again left home to serve in the Army, spending time in Hawaii and Thailand. Upon discharge from the military, Jack returned to Indiana and began a more than thirty year career as a Switchman for Indiana Bell/AT&T.

Clifford “Jack” Love was truly a gentleman. He had a gentle spirit and never failed to act with kindness and love. He enjoyed sharing stories and never knew a stranger. He had many interests that he loved to share with people. These included trains, photography, kites, traveling, gadgets, chess, movies, and Christmas.

Grandpa Cliff especially loved to brag about his grandchildren and all their accomplishments. He took great pride in being an “IU Grandpa”. Grandpa Cliff enjoyed taking his grandchildren on day trips to Spring Mill State Park and vacations to Hilton Head Island. He never failed to forget his camera, capturing countless photos of his grandchildren. Grandpa Cliff made every holiday magical, especially Christmas, decorating every inch of the house, complete with three Christmas trees, and two trains. He loved to treat his grandchildren to a trip to Starbucks every time he and grandma picked them up from school. A devoted Grandpa, there was rarely a dance recital, play, variety show, ball game, school program, or pageant he was not present with his camera in tow.

Cliff “Jack” is survived by his wife, Violet Shimer Love, whom he married on June 22, 1997. During their almost 24 years together, he was a doting husband, often spending months planning the perfect gift for her birthday or special occasion.

Also surviving are his stepson, Michael A. Shimer (Annabell) of San Francisco, CA, stepdaughter, Megan Shimer Axsom (John Collier) of Bloomington, IN and grandchildren: Emily, Andrew, Elizabeth, Michael, and Elias.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Donica Love on March 4, 1995, his father on May 7, 1976, and mother on April 24, 1997.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date where all who knew and loved Clifford “Jack” Love can celebrate him and share their memories.

Lester Wayne Bowden, Sr., 79, passed away peacefully with family around him on Friday, February 12, 2021, at his home.

Born October 16, 1941, in Mitchell, he was the son of Bernard and Blanche (Batchelor) Bowden. He married Shirley Caraway January 1, 1983.

Lester retired from General Motors with 30 years of service in 1993. He was a bus driver for Bedford-North Lawrence High School with 17 years of service and retired in 2011 from Barr Reeve Community Schools as a bus driver and custodian with 17 years of service. Lester was a member of the Orleans Church of the Nazarene and a 1961 graduate of Mitchell High School.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Bowden of Mitchell; children, Ellen (Gene) Staggs of Bedford, Jason Bowden of Mitchell; step-daughters, whom he raised as his own, Crystal (Mike) Miller of Mitchell, Christie (Chris) Steed of Piedmont, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Karen Miller of Phoenix, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lester Bowden, Jr.; granddaughter, Vanessa Benham; and siblings, Shirley Gross and Jerry Bowden.

He was loved by everyone he met. He loved to be around family and friends and will truly be missed. Lester put everyone before himself. He truly loved going to church and would witness to everyone who would listen. He said he wanted to see all of his family in heaven someday.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Jerry Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Timothy Paul Terry went to be with the lord February 11th, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Tim was born March 5th, 1958 to Don and Ruth (Johnson) Terry. He was an avid lover of the lord and just received his certificate of ordination. Three weeks ago, he preached his first sermon.

Tim was former county commissioner of Lawrence county for sixteen years. He ran Terry’s two-way radio alongside his father. Tim was a reserve for the Lawrence county sheriff’s department. He worked at Carpenter Body and later drove a bus for Mitchell Community Schools. Later driving a dump truck for Crider and Crider.

Tim married Bobbi (stockman) Terry august 4th, 2000. They joined their family with daughters Cindy Terry of Campbellsburg, Courtney McClain and David Hiatt of Franklin. Sons Sammy Terry of Kentucky, Cory Bartlett and Tiffany Stevens of Bedford. Grandchildren that he loved deeply Megan Terry, Brianna Carver, Braden Tillett, Cadence Tillett, Cole Bartlett, and David (Bubby) Hiatt. He is survived by his siblings sister Esther and Steve Marks, sister Debbie and Willie Russell, brother Mike and Cami Terry with several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Don and Ruth Terry and brother Sam Terry.

Tim was an avid hunter, whether it was deer, raccoon or fishing. He looked forward to deep sea fishing with the boys every year. He was a member of the spring mill FOP lodge 172. He belonged to the chuckwagon cowboy church. He rode with the McKnight riders reenacting train robbery’s on horseback in many different states for years. Keeping up a farm with many different animals throughout the years.

Phyllis “Pat” Stickles, 69, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021.

Born November 24, 1951, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Morrell Tucker and Mary (Key) Cummings. She married Ralph “Steve” Stickles on August 24, 1978 and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2019. She retired, after 40 plus years, as the Education Department Coordinator with I.U. Health Bloomington and a member of Bedford Altrusa. She enjoyed fishing with Steve, spending time with her grandchildren, playing Euchre and dice. She loved to cook and make people laugh.

Survivors include two sons, Clint Stickles and wife, Chanel, of Bloomington and Logan Stickles, of Bedford; a step-daughter, Christa Fulkerson and husband, B.J., of Bedford; four grandchildren, Brooklynn Stickles, Beau Badger, Grace and Gabe Fulkerson; a sister, Karen Starr, of MN; her father, Morrell Tucker.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her husband.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 17th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Pat Arthur officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the hour of service on Wednesday at the mortuary.

Homer Everett “Jay” Walton, Jr.

Homer Everett “Jay” Walton, Jr. Jay went to heaven on the evening of February 11th, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family. Born April 11, 1925 in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Homer E. Walton, Sr. and Mable (Chambers) Walton. He married his childhood sweetheart Maralou Watson Walton on April 11, 1948, and they enjoyed 72 loving years together.

He retired from U.S. Naval Avionics Center on April 11, 1980 as the Superintendent of Public Works. He began employment April 1948 after serving six years in the Navy during World War II. He was discharged as a Chief Petty Officer, recalled in 1950 for the Korean Conflict, and served two more years returning to work at the Center. He spent a total of 35 years with the Navy.

Survivors include two sons, Larry J. Walton (Debbie) of Bedford and J. Travis Walton of Bedford; four grandchildren, Carly L. Walton of Owensboro, KY, Cody L. Walton (Sara) of Bloomington, IN, Kelsey G. Walton of Nashville, TN, and Garrett L. Walton of Bedford, IN; 2 great-grandchildren Mason and Emmett; two sisters, Juanita Parish and Marjorie Miller, both of Indianapolis, IN; special niece and nephew, Rebecca and Roy Hillenburg of Friendswood, TX and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

After retirement he continued with his vision and love by purchasing land to farm, raise grain and hay, and cattle for the purpose of leaving a legacy for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jay graduated from Needmore High School in 1943 and awarded with the Ray W. Fry Outstanding Alumni Award in 2014. He was past President of the Lawrence County Beef Cattle Association, past State President of the Indiana Beef Cattle Association, and a member of the National Beef Cattle Association Board of Directors. He belonged to the Elks Club, American Legion Post #33, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Right of Indianapolis, IN (Brookside Lodge), IU Medical Center Foundation Board, and he was Supervisor for Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Robert and Kenny, Brother-in-Law Russell E. Watson and Sister-in-Law Mildred (McPike) Watson.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the North Lawrence Community School Scholarship Foundation in remembrance of Jay. Visitation will be Monday, February 15th from 4pm to 8pm with services on Tuesday, February 16th at 11am. Michael Wayne Lawson, 68, passed away February 3, 2021, in Arizona.

Born August 17, 1952, in Bloomington, he was the son of George Everett and Carolyn Marie (Staggs) Lawson. He married Sherry Rose Andis May 29, 1971.

Michael was a bishop and licensed with the Church of God. He pioneered two churches in Indiana and two in Arizona. Michael pastored 38 years with a secular job in heating and cooling. He loved playing the piano and guitar, and attended Woodville Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sherry Lawson of Mohave Valley, Arizona; sons, Michael Wayne (Kristy) Lawson, Jr., of Bullhead City, Arizona, Matthew David Lawson of Mohave Valley, Arizona, Matthew Edward (Pilita) Lawson of Mohave Valley, Arizona; mother, Carolyn Marie Lawson of North Vernon; grandchildren, Audraeanna, Brandon, Phoenix, Blake, Lexy, and Tristen; siblings, Barbara Butcher of Bloomington, David (Annette) Lawson of North Vernon, Amanda (Fred) Hourigan of Nineveh.

His father and son, George William “Billy” Lawson, preceded him in death.

Randall Eugene Fleetwood, age 65, of Heltonville, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Fleetwood was baptized at Fairview Community Church in 1995. Randall retired from Bedford Logistics and W & R Lawn Care. He loved hanging out in his garage with his family and friends. Gun Day and the first day of deer season always called for a big pot of chili at Randall’s garage. He loved deer hunting, NASCAR and other dirt track racing. Randall enjoyed mowing, racing, fishing and hunting with his daughter from another father and mother, Whitney Baldwin.

Born on Aug. 24, 1955, in Bedford, Randall was the son of Donnie and Janet (Allen) Fleetwood. Randall married Elizabeth Lynn Ford on May 19, 1978, at Heltonville Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Heather (Paul) Bamford of Indianapolis; two brothers, Tim (Kristie) Fleetwood of Heltonville and Tony (Dora) Fleetwood of Bedford; one sister, Lisa Fleetwood of Heltonville; his dogs, Bristol, Ruger and Samson; his granddogs, Luke and Berly; and Special dogs, Lily and Jett.

Mr. Fleetwood was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Allen Fleetwood; grandparents, Clone and Myrtle Fleetwood, Helen Allen and Durward Allen; his mother-in-law, Marian Ford; and uncles, Harold Paul Allen, Francis Fleetwood, Ray Fleetwood, Rodney Hilderbrand, Larry Parker, Wally Mullins and Kevin Otte.

Robert M. Dybel, 79, of Kuttawa, Kentucky, formerly of Bedford, passed away Feb. 3, 2021, in Fort Myers, Florida.

He was born in Hammond on Feb. 28, 1941, the son of Matthew and Charlotte (Krakowiak) Dybel. He married Patricia Hopp on Aug. 12, 1967, in Highland, and they shared 53 years together.

Robert graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. In 1965, he joined the Army Reserves, serving in the Gulf War in 1991. He retired from General Motors in Bedford in 1999, after 34 years of employment.

He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church of Bedford for 44 years, St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Eddyville, Kentucky, from 2011 to the present, American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 for 50 years and the Fun Timers Fishing Club from 2016 to the present.

Robert’s greatest joys in life were traveling (he visited three continents), fishing, time with family, eating out, playing cards and his time spent at his retirement home on Barkley Lake in Kentucky.

Surviving to cherish Robert’s memory are his wife, Patricia of Kuttawa, Kentucky; daughter, Robin Dybel Griger of Fishers; son, Jon B. Dybel (Racquel Hanks) of Bedford; two grandchildren, Eben Griger and Nina Griger; brothers, Michael Dybel of Libertyville, Illinois, and Donald (Sandra) Dybel of St. Augustine, Florida; and six nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard “Rick” Kenneth Farlow, 70, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021 at the Richard L. Roudebush Veteran’s Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Anna (Zimmer) and Loren Vernon Farlow. He married Michele Smith Farlow, the love of his life.

Rick was in the 155th Assault Helicopter Company in Ban Me Thuot, Vietnam. He retired from the Department of Defense as a Counterintelligence Agent.

Rick was a life member of China Post I, the VFW, and the American Legion.

Rick believed in protecting his family, friends, and country. He lived life to the fullest, traveling the USA on a motorcycle, in an RV, and in his plane. But Rick’s favorite place was with his wife, family, and friends who brought joy, laughter, and love to his life.

Rick is survived by his wife, Michele; brother, Ron (Sandy) Farlow; daughters, Angela (Guy) Hunt, Michelle Woods, Katie (Patrick) Courson and Courtney (Adam) Ciciura; stepsons, Philip (Jenna) Jackson and Tim (Anne) Jackson; and 11, and one on the way, grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with China Post I officiating. Richard Eugene “Sparky” Sparks, 72 of Bloomington, passed away on Feb. 3, 2021.

He was born Dec. 9, 1948, in Seymour, to Myron Eugene and Elizabeth Ann Beldon Sparks. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1967 and attended Indiana Central until he came home due to his father’s illness. He married Patricia “Trish” Ann Norfrey on April 21, 1976, in Seymour.

He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who was dedicated to his family.

During his time in Seymour, he was active in the Elks Lodge and the Jaycees. He worked for his family business, Beldon Insurance Agency in Seymour, for over 30 years and spent the last 10 years as a very successful salesman at Bedford Ford. He never met a stranger. He loved people. He spent many years coaching sports in Seymour and loved his players like his own.

He loved all things sports, especially his Indiana Hoosiers and New York Yankees. Rick loved spending time with his family. His favorite pastime was being with his wife watching anything his kids and grandkids were involved in. He will always be our biggest fan.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Trish; sons, Abraham “Abe” Sparks and Bryan Sparks; daughter, Myra (Bill) Wright; grandchildren, Logan Wright, Cooper Wright, Grace Sparks and Conner Sparks; and his brother, James (Karen) Sparks.

Due to COVID-19, a private family service will be held at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.

Kenneth Eugene Reynolds died unexpectedly on Monday morning, Feb. 8, 2021.

Kenneth was born Dec. 1, 1935, in Bedford, to Chesley and Daisy Reynolds.

Kenneth graduated from Shawswick High School in 1955. He retired from Texas Gas Company after 39 years of service. He lived and worked in Bedford, Vincennes, Sellersburg and Louisville, Kentucky.

Kenneth enjoyed his grandchildren and going to Dale Hollow for fishing and boating. He loved walks with the dogs, making friends with every neighbor along his route.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Blackwood Reynolds; daughters, Kenna Reynolds Brown and spouse Joseph S. Brown and LeaAnne Opel Dolbeare and spouse Donald Dolbeare; two sons, Steven Reynolds and partner Monty Mosby and Scott Reynolds; grandchildren, Shaun Dolbeare, Trey Dolbeare, Kelsey Peck, Brian Lee Dolbeare and Brandon Reynolds; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth is preceded in death by two brothers; three sisters; and both parents.

A private service will be held for family only at Hager Funeral Home, in Brandenburg, Kentucky.

Kenneth’s cremains are to be interred in Bedford. Burial will occur at a future date, to be determined.

Robert Steven “Bob” Frisbie

Robert Steven “Bob” Frisbie, 60, of Owensburg, passed away on Feb. 7, 2021, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Bob was born on June 25, 1960, in Monroe County, to William and Nancy Frisbie. He married Vickie Frisbie on October 3, 1987, and she survives.

Bob was a proud US Army veteran and avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a Master Mason and was retired from General Electric. He was a friend to all, even strangers, and was able to fix anything. He loved to drink beer while sitting on his 5-gallon bucket looking out of his garage. Above all, his main passion was spending time with his grandson, Eli, who was his pride and joy.

Surviving relatives include his son, Eric (Lyndsey) Frisbie, whom he was so proud to call his best friend; grandson, Eli Frisbie; daughter, Nicole (Evan) DeVallance; stepdaughter, Jody Pennington; grandson, Logan Waltz; siblings, Jim (Marsha) Frisbie, Tammy Purtlebaugh, Lori Jewell and Danny Percifield; sister-in-law, Teresa (David) Deckard; brother-in-law, Dennis (Wendy) Eads; along with several nieces and nephews.

Bob wished to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Gerald Eugene “Gene” Hodges, 89, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday Feb. 2, 2021, at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis.

Gene was born on Feb. 11, 1931, in Lawrence County, to Ollie and Frances (Foster) Hodges. He married Marjorie Ann (Baker) Hodges on June 24, 1951, in Lawrence County, and she survives.

He worked for Pioneer Hi-Bred International for 45 years in several capacities including manager of the Rushville production plant and as a quality control manager at both Tipton and Johnston, Iowa, locations.

Gene loved the United Methodist Church and attended whenever possible.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Marjorie Ann (Baker) Hodges of Franklin; a son, Doug Hodges (Martha) of Manchester, Tennessee; grandson Mark Hodges (Irina) of Warner Robins, Georgia; and two brothers, John Hodges of Bedford and Tom Hodges of Santa Rosa, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Hodges and Harry Hodges; and two sisters, Mildred Kimbley and Mary Gilstrap.

A memorial service will be forthcoming at a later date at the Erie United Methodist Church in Bedford.

Robert “Bob” Dale Stewart II age 65 of Bedford passed away on Thursday February 4, 2021 at 11:27 PM at his daughter’s residence.

He was born in Bedford on February 5, 1955 to Robert Dale Stewart and Janet Sue (Hutton) Stewart, he was a skilled painter and carpenter, he served six years in the Indiana National Guard. He was the oldest of ten siblings, he had a huge family and was loved by many, he will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his daughter, Carmen Nicole Stewart, three grandsons, Keilan Michael Dale McVicker, Keston Matthew Cody McVicker and Justice Arion McVicker and his girlfriend Rose Davis, brothers, Gordon W. Stewart, Curtis Reed Stewart, sisters, Christina Wright, Theresa Ferguson, Julia Merrill, and Misty Dawn Stewart Sanders.

Born October 27, 1952 in Lee County, Virginia, she was the daughter of Charles and Lois (Yeary) Ely. She married James See on March 24, 1985. Charlene attended Oolitic Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter, a member of the Avoca Baptist Quilters, and loved teaching others how to quilt.

Survivors include her husband, James See; mother, Lois Ely of Oolitic; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Ely.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm, on Wednesday, February 10th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Lewis Seward officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 9th from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at the Day & Carter Mortuary, and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday.

Born July 16, 1955 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Jack Franklin and Margaret Joan (Tirey) Reynolds.

Randy graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis and Kent State University with a degree in journalism. He was employed for the City of Chardon, Ohio, for several years. He was of the Christian faith and loved to play and write music.

Surviving are his son, Jesse Monroe Reynolds of Oregon; mother, M. Joan Reynolds of Mitchell; brother, Tim Reynolds of Indianapolis.

John “Russ” Daulton, age 92, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Bedford.

Born in Jackson County, he was the son of John and Mary (Smith) Daulton. He married May Maxine Collier on June 27, 1949 and she preceded him in death on May 21, 2015.

Russ was a welder and a tinkerer. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Russ loved hunting, gardening, cookies and working on electronics. He also enjoyed spending time on his property in Jackson County.

Surviving to cherish Russ’ memory are his son-in-law, Robert Hawkins; grandchild, Crystal Dawn (Anon) Goins; four great grandchildren, Dakota and Micah Potter and Ellison and Harrison Goins.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two daughters, Brenda Hawkins and Bonnie Daulton-Cook; one granddaughter, Ericka Cook; five brothers, Robert, Ralph, Raymond, Richard and Frank Daulton; and one sister, Virginia Freed.

Cheryl attended Driftwood Christian Church. She enjoyed cooking, working in her flowers, and when her children were in school, she loved attending their sports and cheer events.

Cheryl was born on October 20, 1963 in Bedford, IN to Leo Weaver (deceased) & Judy Embree Weaver of Bedford. She married Bobby Schrader on May 16, 1992 in Vallonia and he survives. He was a 1987 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, a 1989 graduate of Vincennes University, worked as a tool and die supervisor at the Ford Motor Company Kentuckiana Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, was formerly employed at ICON Metal Forming in Corydon and Nth Works in Louisville, and was a member of Corydon Church of Christ. Brian loved fishing, watching baseball games (especially the New York Yankees), was a big IU fan and was an avid history buff.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oliver and Margaret McGuire and Wayne and Ruth Lee; and his nephew, Ethan Shirley.

Survivors include his son, Alex Lee of Corydon; his parents, Donald L. “Don” and Mary L. McGuire Lee of Bedford, Indiana; his sisters, Stephanie Mason (Mark) of Bedford and Patricia Coleman (Vince) of Lexington, Kentucky; his nieces, Olivia Shirley of Evansville, Indiana and Kristina Coleman of Lexington; his nephew, Nikolas Coleman of Lexington; and many loving uncles, aunts and cousins.

Sandy Lee Mason, 70, of Bedford passed away at 9:40 AM Tuesday February 2, 2021 at White River Lodge. Born September 5, 1950 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of John and Juanita Watson.

Sandy was a member of Guide Pointe Church. Although her health had prevented her from attending in recent years, she continued in her faith and love of God. Sandy was often found telling Bible stories or speaking scripture with others. Her cheerful disposition was prevalent even though the adversities she faced.

In 2005, Sandy married Leroy Mason, and he survives. Survivors include two sons, Jay (Adrian) Price of Heltonville and their children Aurora (Mitchell) Arnold and Taylor Tincher. Matt Price of Austin and his children, Jonathan (Alicia), Abbie, Patrick, Derrick and Gatlin, one great granddaughter, Aspen. Two sisters, Jena Morrow and Katrina Probasco, one brother, Tim (Carole) Watson all of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Penny Shields.

Born May 27, 1936 in Bedford, she was the daughter of William and Grace Fern (Gardner) Way. She married Wendell West on June 23, 1956, in the Pilgrim Holiness Church of Bedford by the late Kenneth H. Graves. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church in Little Cincinnati. Wanda loved God, her family, and going to church.

She is survived by her husband, Wendell, two sons, Dennis R. West (Christy) of Springville, Brad G. West (Jeanna) of Springville, four grandchildren, Steven W. West (Sheyanne) of Springville, Stacey D. Osborne (Bryce) of Bedford, Levi West of Columbus and Bailey West of Springville, 6 great grandchildren, Addisyn, Reece, Rylen, Alyvia, Ella and Hallie, one sister, Janet Tidd (David) of Bedford, two brothers, Larry Dean Way (Diane) of Ellettsville and Jerry Way (Becky) of Florida, one, half-brother, Billy Way of Indianapolis.

Sharon Kay Perkins, age 66, of Mitchell, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in her residence. Sharon was born October 30, 1954 in Warsaw, Indiana to Sam and Ruby (Ratliff) Meade. She was united in marriage to Davey Perkins on July 28, 1972 in Warsaw, Indiana.

Sharon enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family. She was a lifelong member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, Warsaw and a member of Graceful Gospel Church, Bedford.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Davey Perkins; children: Davey (Allitia) Perkins, Creassia (Walter) Blackburn, and Samuel (Amy) Perkins; siblings, Mary (Frank) Hall, Sammy (Bonnie) Meade, and Emma Hurd. In addition, Sharon is survived by grandchildren, Alysha, Alex, Brooklyn, Katie, Jacob, and John Perkins, Chloe and Kaylynn Aikins, Zach Blackburn; and great-grandchild, Makinsley Blackburn.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Paul, Adam, David Lee, Elizabeth Ann Meade, and Evelyn Marsillett.

She was born in Orange County on January 18, 1940 to Kenneth Victor Hall and Anna Frances Cleveland Hall. She was of Protestant faith, she retired from the Edgewood Clinic where she was a Medical Assistant for Dr. Schultz.

Survivors include her children, Robert A. (Sylvia) Way of Mitchell, Vicki (Harold) McPike of Springville, and Fran Michelle (Jayson) Hudson of Springville, two step-children, Bonnie (Gary) Craig of Bedford and Shelia (Jim) Reef of Mitchell, one sister, Martha S. William Tyree “Billy” Shirley, 59, died at 12:40 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2021, at IU Health Bloomington from COVID 19.

Born on Nov. 5, 1961, in Carmel, he was adopted by William Edmund Shirley and Dorothy Tyree Shirley. He graduated from BNL with the class of 1979 and attended Purdue University.

He worked for Boston Scientific in Spencer and loved his job. He enjoyed sports. Music was his life. He sang with many bands and was in several local bands in the Bedford area.

He loved nothing more than his two children, grand cats and grand puppies.

Survivors include his two children, daughter, Felicia Lynnae Shirley and son, Haras E. Shirley, both of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a celebration of life held at a later date.

Doris C. (Blackburn) Fountain, 94, of Bedford died at 2:32pm on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Born March 19, 1926 in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Cyrus and Mabel (Fortner) Blackburn. She married John W. Fountain on November 21, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2010. She was a homemaker and a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church. Doris was also a co-owner of the Dairy Barn Ice Cream Shop in Bedford.

Survivors includer two sons: John W. Fountain, II and his wife, Debbie of Paoli, and Jerry Lee Blackburn Fountain and his wife, June of Bedford; a daughter, Susan Gayle Cessna and her husband James of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Heather Cessna Stigall & Jeremy of Bedford, Erin Fountain of Orleans, Paul Fountain & Janice of Bedford, Bryan Fountain & Austin of Bedford, Lindsay Fountain Wilson & Ben of Ellettsville; six great grandchildren, Seth, Abigail, and Jase Fountain, Heather Haley Stigall, Caleb and Logan Wilson; two brothers, Russell Blackburn and Donald Blackburn both of Bedford, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John W. Fountain, and her sister, Ruth Emmert.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 6th, 2021 at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Pastor Sherman Thomas officiating.

Maxine Zollman

Sept. 23, 1925 — Jan. 30, 2021

“I HAVE LOVED EVERY DECADE,” were the words spoken by Maxine Zollman, when recently asked to reflect on her life. Born during the Roaring ‘20s, a child during the Depression, a young woman during World War II, and a mother to teens during the ‘60s, Doris Maxine Hague Zollman’s life was shaped by challenging and interesting times.

Maxine died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, at the age of 95 at Meadowood Health Pavilion in Bloomington.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1925, to Merrit Minard Hague and Leola Reynolds Hague, in a second-story rented apartment in Washington County, near the one-room school where her father taught.

When Maxine was 2, the family left Southern Indiana for the northern part of the state where her father served as principal and school superintendent in various Northern Indiana communities. She and her friends played with dolls, roller skated and calling themselves “The Tree Sitters” — they spent long periods in trees, eating raw carrots and drinking water from coffee cans.

Maxine had a dog named Bingo, and another pet, a baby chick, which she took for walks on a leash made of string until one day she discovered her chicken was the Sunday dinner — something her farm-bred parents thought nothing about. When Maxine was 12, her life as an only child ended with the birth of her first brother, James Allan “Jim” Hague, and was soon followed by a second brother, Dr. John Maurice “Jack” Hague (Jayne Wisely Hague).

Music, a family passion, and tap dancing lessons rounded out her activities and until recently, she could still perform a shuffle-ball-change routine with her daughter, Priscilla. At age 3, her father taught her to play the ukulele, and she and her clarinet earned a spot in the school band. Piano lessons were added to her musical accomplishments and at many a family party, people were drawn to the piano upon hearing the first chords of “Stardust,” her signature song.

In 1943, Maxine graduated from Hebron High School, in Hebron, Indiana, and America’s involvement in World War II now required sacrifices and cooperation. Upon graduation, she moved to Chicago and, after working briefly in a bank, enrolled in nurses’ training. She joined the Cadet Nurse Corp program at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, a program started by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, to train nursing students to care for the wounded soldiers sent back to the U.S. as the experienced hospital staff headed overseas into the war zones. As Maxine told the story, “Everyone wanted to do their part.”

As the war ended, the Cadet Nurse program ended. She became certified as a nurse, which also qualified her as a flight attendant, one of her earlier goals. She enrolled at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and began work on a master’s degree in public health.

But lives were changing fast now as the war wound down. Maxine was introduced to a young soldier, Maurice J. “Jack” Zollman, newly returned from the war. They got engaged at the iconic Boulevard Room in Chicago, and Maxine postponed her master’s degree. Maxine and Jack married on March 22, 1947, in Campbellsburg. The couple lived in Medora, and then settled in Bedford, Jack’s hometown, not far from her birthplace.

Maxine worked at the local hospital until the birth of their first child, Julia Ann. A son, John William (1952), and a daughter, Priscilla Rose (1959), rounded out the family. The next few years, while the children were young, Maxine devoted herself to community and family projects — Tri Kappa Civics Sorority, PTA, the Pink Ladies Hospital Guild, activities supporting the First Methodist Church, CASA volunteer, Girl Scout Leader, literary group member, historic preservation supporter and host of many large family celebrations.

In the early 1980s, Maxine joined the business community. Her first venture was The Lawrence House, a home accessories store in downtown Bedford which she owned and operated with her friend and business partner, Martha Hudson. They enjoyed the community contact and trips to various markets around the country searching for unique products. Maxine later opened and operated Zollman’s Finery in the Masonic Temple building until the early 1990s.

Following the death of Jack in 2001, Maxine moved to Meadowood Retirement Community in Bloomington, where she lived for 18 years.

In addition to her husband, Maurice J. “Jack” Zollman Jr., she was predeceased by her parents; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Cramer Hague and Mary Rose Zollman Haverland; and a brother-in-law, Frank Haverland.

In addition to her two brothers, Maxine is survived by her daughter, Julia Zollman Wickes (John F.); her son, John William Zollman (Michelle Lasley Zollman); and daughter, Priscilla Zollman Ball (Jeffrey R.); her grandchildren, Katherine Wickes Conovitz (Brandon), Margaret Wickes Callahan (Kevin), Anna Wickes Brodie (Andrew), Alyce Zollman, Elliott Ball and Stuart Ball; and seven great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews survive her, as well.

“I have loved every decade.” That defined her outlook and approach to life. Maxine was known and loved for her kindness, thoughtfulness, grace and welcoming hospitality. She and Jack raised their children to value community involvement, integrity and inclusiveness.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Meadowood Retirement Community and Meadowood Health Pavilion for their loving and caring assistance to Maxine.

Burial arrangements are being handled by the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes of Bedford. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Bedford. A private family funeral will be held with a memorial service held at a later date.

Therese “Terry” Meehan

Feb. 16, 1936 — Jan. 31, 2021

Therese “Terry” Meehan, age 84, of Bedford, died on January 31, 2021 at Bloomington Hospital.

She was born February 16, 1936 in Germany. She was the daughter of Alois and Therese Schadenfroh. She was a loving mother and grandmother and homemaker. Terry was also a member of Dunn Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer for 37 years. She attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Terry married Raymond (Buddy) Dougherty and he preceded her in death. In 1968, she married Leon “Irish” Meehan and he also preceded her in death in August of 2006.

Terry is survived by one son, Raymond “Mike” Dougherty and his wife, Laura, of Bedford; one daughter, Beate Treske of Germany; two stepsons, Russel and Edward Meehan, both of Jacksonville, Florida. She is also survived by one sister, Ida Firnschild of Germany; four grandchildren, Travis (Angie) Dougherty, Hannah Dougherty, Andrea (Frank) Treske, and Michael (Suzi) Treske; three great grandchildren; and five step grandchildren.

Preceding her in death along with her beloved husband “Irish”, include both of her brothers; one sister; one granddaughter, Brandi; grandson, Michael; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Deacon David Reising and Father Jegan Peter officiating. Philip Craig, 90, of Williams, died at 11:40 a.m. on January 30, 2021 at IU Health Bloomington.

Born April 18, 1930 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Von Craig and Mary (Eggers) Craig. He was self employed in insurance. He enjoyed writing music, playing the guitar and singing. He was very spiritual, faithful and generous.

Survivors include his sisters, Olive Key, Mary Walters, and Irene Sprangler; several nieces and nephews; loved and missed by the Manions and family friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.

Michael A. York, 57, of Bedford died at 8:48 pm on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born November 21, 1963 in Bedford, IN he was the son of Manson and Brenda York. He married Anna Marie May and she survives. He worked as a fabricator and painter for Sigma Steel and Mica Metals.

Survivors include his wife Anna Marie York of Bedford; three sons: Joshua A. York, Isaiah E. York, and Joseph D. York all of Bedford; his father, Manson York of Bedford; three brothers: James E. York of Bedford, Larry D. York and wife Elizabeth of Bedford, and Roy D. York and fiancé Crystal L. Smith of Bedford; one sister, Norma Mayle of Spencer; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:15pm on Friday, February 5th at the Green Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ferrell “Bucky” Charles officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until noon on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Claude Emmett Davis Sr., 74 passed away on January 31, 2021 at Floyd Baptist Hospital in New Albany

Born October 20, 1946 to William (Bill) and Moneva (Hillenburg) Davis. He was the grandson of Claude and Gertie Hillenburg and Levi and Dora (Quillen) Davis. He married Debra (Debbie) Lucas on July 10, 1979 and she survives. Claude retired from North Lawrence Community School Corporation as a custodian, and he had also worked in the stone quarries for several years. He had been the caretaker for the Breckinridge Cemetery for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife Debra (Debbie); three sons and one daughter: Claude Jr., and his wife Michelle, Tony Russell and his wife Lacey, Gene Russell and his wife Vonda, daughter Moneva (Bonnie) Rainey and her husband Kevin; 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Glasgow and Joyce Collins; two brothers, Dennis Davis Sr. and his wife Arlene and Philip (Pip) Davis.

A daughter April Watson preceded him in death, along with his parents, a sister Arleen Thompson, and two brothers William Davis Jr. and Robert Earl Davis Sr.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 3rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Private family services will be held with burial to follow in the Dive Cemetery.

Garold Kinser, 83, of Springville, died at 6:23 a.m. on Sunday, January 31st at Westview Nursing Center.

Born September 23, 1937, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Zanford and Margaret (Martin) Kinser. He attended Heltonville School. He served in the National Guard. Garold retired in 1993 as a truck driver.

Survivors include three sons, Garold Kinser and wife Goldie, of Heltonville, Duane Kinser and wife Kim, of Bloomington, Bill Kinser and wife Anna, of Bloomington; two grandsons, Robbie and his wife Trish, and Jason Kinser; four great grandchildren, Jadee, Larrissa, Ella, and Lainey; one brother, Richard Kinser and wife Sharon, of Heltonville; one sister, Ann Hunt and husband Gordon, of Heltonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Wendall Kinser; three sisters, Katherine Chasteen, Laverne Fountain and Nancy Sowder.

Judith Ann Chastain

Judith Ann Chastain 77, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick.

Born February 6, 1943, in Otisco, she was the daughter of Clarence G. and Mary E. (Flinn) Dalton. She married Frederick W. Chastain June 28, 1963, and he preceded her in death February 12, 2001.

Judy was formerly a manager at Montgomery Ward, and most recently was a pharamist’s assistant at CVS. She was a member of Pinhook Christian Church and a 1961 graduate of Tunnelton High School. Judy enjoyed her grandkids and geneology.

Surviving are her sons, Kevin W. (Charlotte) Chastain of French Lick, Michael D. (Angie) Chastain of Mitchell; grandchildren, Ashley Chastain, Brittney Chastain, and Chappel Chastain; step-grandchildren, Missy (Barb Hibdon) Hammond of French Lick, Mark (Jill) Hammond of French Lick; step-great-grandchildren, Allison Hammond of Bloomington, Jake Hammond of French Lick, Gabby Hibdon of French Lick; sister, Janet Sue Demaree of Bedford.

Her parents; husband; and sister, June Fisher, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, at the Pinhook Christian Church with Larry Chastain officiating. Burial will be in the Pinhook Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the service on Wednesday at the church.

Steven “Gib” Johnson

Steven “Gib” Johnson, 69, of Bloomington, formerly of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on Feb. 17, 1951, in Bedford, the son of Harold and Juanita Katherine (Martin) Johnson. Gib attended Bloomington High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Gib was a general laborer for several years in the landscaping business in the Bloomington area.

He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed mushroom and ginseng hunting, country music, and dancing. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Gib is survived by his companion, Myra Sutton of Bedford; a niece, Mistee (Chris) Nichols of Kirksville; a great-niece, Lexxie Nichols of Bloomington; two aunts, Susie Johnson of Seymour and Judy Johnson of Judah; and several cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mike Johnson.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Cremation rites have been accorded.
