Dominick Scarfone
BEDFORD – Dominick Scarfone, 58, after a brave and gallant three-year battle with an aggressive form of cancer, succumbed to the side effects and passed into glory on August 20, 2023. Dominick was born in the Bronx, NY in a middle-class melting pot neighborhood where all the families knew each other and looked out for one another. In the summer the adults would sit on someone’s stoop talking, while the kids played in the street (whiffle ball was Dominick’s favorite) and in the winter everyone would help with shoveling snow. After graduating from Mount Saint Michael Academy (a local all boy’s catholic high school) he went to Lehman College – CUNY and found his career: Speech-Language Pathologist. After graduating in 1987, he moved to Indiana to earn his master’s degree from Indiana University and graduated in 1990. He immediately started working in the area. Dominick treated clients of all ages and worked in facilities in Lawrnce, Monroe, and Orange counties. He very much enjoyed working in this field and helping people and their families, always hoping to make a difference in their lives. Dominick met the beautiful Tammy Roberts, also a Speech-Language Pathologist, while working at one of the facilities and they courted for many years. After many attempts for her hand, she finally agreed to marry him. While they had hoped for a picture perfect happy ending love story, what they got was a real love story. Dominick and Tammy married in 2003 and have a son, Andino Robert Scarfone, whom Dominick considered his hero, as Andino is so brilliant and kind. Dominick will be watching from above as he makes his mark on this world. He is preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Scarfone, who we are sure was waiting at Heaven’s gate with arms wide open to greet him. His mother-in-law extraordinaire, JoAnne Connell-Roberts also preceded him in death, passing away in 2016. Dominick leaves behind his wife Tammy and their son, Andino; father, Joseph Scarfone; brother, Jack Scarfone and his family; sister Roseanne Bent and her family; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dominick was always humbled by how the Connell Family (too numerous to mention) welcomed him into their family and immediately treated him as one of their own, even calling him by a unique nickname conjured by Tammy and Hollie: “O.” So Long O, we will all see you later. Funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service, Friday, at the funeral home. Bedford-Betty Jean McGill, 87, of Bedford, died Friday, August 11, 2023. Born February 22, 1936, in Lawrence County, Indiana. She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School with the class of 1955.
Good and faithful servant, go rest now with Jesus. When her eyes closed, there was no doubt when she opened them, she saw the face of Jesus. Her entire life was centered around what God would want, and was she doing good enough, to the point that she sometimes didn’t feel she measured up, which we know she did. We are at peace knowing that our mom, grandma, sister and aunt is in the presence of the Lord. She loved her grandsons as much as she loved her God! We will be forever grateful that we had her for as long as we did. We will choose to remember the kind, caring soul who would do anything for her son, daughter and grandsons, and many others. She can walk the streets of gold, wear the crown, and have the biggest mansion in heaven, she deserves that and much much more. No worries about us. She taught us all about God’s love. Momma – we’ve got it here on earth, thanks to your prayers for all of us. Until we meet again, we will love and cherish every good memory. In Jesus’ name.
She was survived by daughter Kimberly Watson, grandsons Evan (Jaci), Kyle, Tanner (Katelyn), great grandchildren Charlotte, Chloe, Graham, Cooper, and a baby boy coming in December. She is also survived by her twin sister Gerri Dunn (Jack), sister Sue Murphy, brothers Charles (Sue) Raines and Harold (Joni) Raines, and several nieces and nephews.

Reba Mae Woods
9.18.1930–7.25.2023
Our sweet and precious Mom and Meme is with Jesus, her Lord and Saviour. She passed peacefully with her family by her side at Bliss Place/Cedar Creek on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023. She leaves us with beautiful memories of her lifelong kindness, generous and tender spirit, rich alto voice, the joy she had for anything that sparkled, and double joy she had for her family.
Reba was born in Russellville, Arkansas on the family farm where, in addition to picking cotton well before she was a teen, she loved to sing. She and her baby sister, Faith, walked to school and crossed a scary bridge while singing, “O Lord, Don’t Let Nothing Happen to Me.” While graduating from high school and attending Arkansas Tech College, she became known as the “Songbird of the South” and sang on the radio every Sunday with the Arkansas Valley Five.
She and husband, Jim, moved to Wichita, Kansas and started their family as they welcomed another songbird, daughter, Melody into their arms. Reba worked at First National Bank in downtown Wichita where her organizational and people skills soon promoted her to banking administration where she served for forty years. She and Jim served as Music Directors at Evangel Assembly of God where she also taught little ones in Sunday School. One of her special delights was when she, Melody, and Jim would harmonize in song for church and frequent nursing homes to sing while she played her accordion. When they retired from work and music ministry, the church honored them with a baby grand piano that graced their home with Jim’s playing and their singing for years. When they moved to senior living they took the piano with them and donated it to Bliss Place so that beautiful, worship music would fill the dining area.
Thrifty, frugal and consummate bargain hunter, Reba was well known at JoAnn Fabric where she purchased skeins of yarn by the trunk load (on sale, of course). She loved crocheting and made afghans for babies and adults and donated scores of them to churches and organizations.
Reba is survived by her beloved daughter, Melody (Denny) Turner; grandchildren, Austin James Malone, Needmore, IN; Monica (Hal) Kirkwood, Oxford, UK; Erich (Anne) Turner, Charlottesville, VA; great-grandchildren-Elle and Finn Malone, Garrett and Kenzie Kirkwood. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Addie Smith and siblings Violet Ruth, Virgil, Mary, Opal, Luke, and Faith.
Her memorial service will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Day and Carter Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor David Wigington and Pastor Gary Thomas. Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service on Saturday, August 5. Friends and family may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
