August 31, 2020 Ralph Herman King Feb. 11, 1940 — Aug. 29, 2020 Ralph Herman King, 80, passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020, at his home. Born Feb. 11, 1940, in Bedford, he was the son of Ralph and Lucille (Owen) King. He married Linda Marie Stephenson June 11, 1966. Herman retired from General Motors. He graduated from Huron High School in 1958 and was a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. Herman loved being with his family and being outdoors, especially mowing. He enjoyed his motorcycle and was excellent at woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Linda King of Mitchell; children, Rogi King of Florida, Dr. Stephen King of Mitchell and Kelly (Monty) Pritchard of Bedford; grandchildren, Alex Marie Tomlinson, Andrew Tomlinson, Luke King and Justus King; and great -grandchildren, Zappelynn Tomlinson and Winston Tomlinson. His parents and brother, Merlin King, preceded him in death. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with the Rev. Born July 15, 1964, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Wilford and Geneva “Ruth” Flynn. Carolyn married Kenny Gould on April 17, 1987 and he preceded her in death on September 30, 1988. Carolyn was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School Class of 1982 and worked as a home health aide at Comfort Keepers. She was of the Christian faith. Carolyn loved spending time with her family and grandbabies. Surviving are two sons, Josh (Tiffany) Gould, of Bedford, Kyle (Chasity) Gould, of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Keaton, Kailee, Wyatt, Eli, Izak, Raven, Kyson, and Knox; one sister, Kay Griffin, of Wichita, KS; nieces and nephew, Lissa Griffin-Maisch and Steven Griffin; mother-in-law, Carolyn J. August 30, 2020 Charlene (Martin) Silvers Oct. 02, 1962 — Aug. 26, 2020 Charlene (Martin) Silvers age 57 of Bedford passed away at 7:24 PM on August 26, 2020 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Bedford on October 2, 1962 to Noble Martin and Mae (Clark) Martin. Charlene was a homemaker and did home care, she was always helping others, there was no job she did not try, big or small, she loved the outdoors and working in her yard and loved her family dearly. She belonged to the Grace Baptist Church in Springville. Cobb, 93, Indianapolis, passed away on August 23, 2020. Dale was born in Oolitic, Indiana on June 8, 1927 to Robert and Verla Cobb. A graduate of Oolitic High School and Indiana University, Dale retired in 1982 as an accountant for RCA. Dale was an Army Veteran of WWII and is past Commander of American Legion Gillen Post 33 in Bedford, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lola Sue (Turner) Cobb, brother Dennis Cobb, and daughter Mary Diane Cobb. He is survived by his sisters LaVerne Speer and Dolores Crane (Bill), brother Gary Cobb (Judy), several nieces and nephews, daughter Elizabeth Ann Cobb, Son James P. Miller Aug. 19, 1946 — Aug. 25, 2020 Sheila A. Miller, age 74 of Fairborn, Ohio passed away August 25, 2020. She was born August 19, 1946 in Bedford, Indiana daughter of the late Howard Sears and Betty VanNess. Sheila was a loving wife, mother, nana and g-nan, and friend. She loved listening to music, playing piano, fishing, camping, and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Sheila was preceded in death by her grandson, John Christopher Cornell. Silvers, 70, of Orleans, passed away at 11:40 pm on Monday, August 24, 2020 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital. Born May 4, 1950 in New Castle, IN, he was the son of James William and Magdalene (New) Silvers. He married Thelma Ruth Jones on December 30, 1977 and she survives. He was a retired supervisor for Superior Essex. He was a hardworking and loving husband, father, grandfather. He was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association and loved riding his Goldwing trike. He enjoyed riding his jeep with family. Survivors include his wife, Thelma, of Orleans; three children, Susie Taylor and husband, Michael of Fernandina Beach, FL, Landice Brent Silvers, Jr. of Tampa, FL and Darrin Wayne Silvers and wife, Jamie, of Staunton, IN; six grandchildren include Stephen Taylor (Mandy), Glenda Ashley Beckett (John), Jake Silvers, Savannah Silvers, Ella Silvers, Weston Silvers; five great grandchildren; four brothers, William “Junior” Silvers, Warren Silvers, James Silvers and Phil New; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com Jackie (Jack) Lee Byrer March 04, 1934 — Aug. 25, 2020 Jackie (Jack) Lee Byrer, age 86 of Bedford, IN passed away peacefully August 25, 2020 at Garden Villa. He was born March 4, 1934 in Odon, IN to Willard and Vincie (Herndon) Byrer. He married Janet Keith July 15, 1961 and she survives. Jack retired from Public Service Indiana (Duke Energy) in 1996 after 44 years. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 and served for two years. He was a member of Leatherwood Christian Church. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren play sports and any other activities they were involved in. He also enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation, especially birds. The bird feeders were never empty. Jack was also known by many to always have a pocket of candy, which he offered to you every time you saw him. The family would like to give special thanks to Sydney Stahl, Gracie Flinn, Heart to Heart Hospice and Garden Villa for their wonderful care for Jack during his final days. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.fergusonlee.com James Thompson “Jim” McCoy June 18, 1940 — Aug. 23, 2020 James Thompson “Jim” McCoy passed away on Aug. 23, 2020, at the age of 80. Jim was born June 18, 1940, in Terre Haute, to James Andrew and Aline Thompson McCoy. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1958, where he played basketball and football. In 1957 he was named outstanding boy at Boy’s State. He graduated from DePauw University in 1962 as a Geology major, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and played football for four years. He worked for the US Geological survey during the summers of 1960 and 1961. He went on to Indiana University in 1962 to get his Master’s in Business Administration. Directly after, Jim worked for Kaiser Aluminum for two years, during which he lived in both Cleveland, Ohio, and San Leandro, California. Jim was hired in 1966 by the John C. Groub Co., where he began as a buyer, and later, through dedicated work, became the president of the company. By his retirement in 2003, Jim had worked for the John C. Groub Co. for 37 years. During these years he was also the Chairman of the Board for the Food Marketing Institute, president of the Indiana Retail Council, and a founding member of the Midwest Grocer’s Association. He served on the board of directors for the Seymour Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Chamber of Commerce, National Retail Grocer’s Association, and Seymour Country Club, and was on the business relations committee for the Schneck Memorial Hospital. Jim’s favorite board was that of the Jackson County Bank, where he served for 47 and a half years, and was Chairman of the Board for 14 years. A lifelong sports-lover and dedicated Hoosier, Jim held season tickets to Indiana University football and basketball games, which he and his family have thoroughly enjoyed over the years. Always a very giving person, he was a generous donor to many philanthropies. While at DePauw University, Jim met Linda Bollinger, and they were married on Aug. 17, 1963. During their years together, Jim and Linda enjoyed raising their three daughters, Erin, Erika and Libby. Jim was a dedicated and loving father, committed to attending every one of his daughters’ sports games and important events in high school and even into college. Later, he was an equally loving grandfather to his eight grandchildren, who adoringly call him “Mac.” Whenever possible, he showed support at their own games and important events. He regularly brought the entire family together to cook amazing meals and play out by their home pool, built just in time for their grandchildren to enjoy. He loved to be outdoors whenever he could, whether he was tinkering at his farm or the woods, or simply enjoying nature with his loved ones. During their winter months, Jim and Linda delighted in a social life in the sun in Sanibel, Florida. The two also enjoyed traveling the world: they visited 39 countries together and especially loved the trips they took with the entire family (grandkids and all) to the Galapagos Islands and to South Africa. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Linda Bollinger McCoy; his three daughters, Erin (Marshall) Royalty, Erika (Jim House) McCoy and Elizabeth (Robert) McCarty; his eight grandchildren, Drew (Leanna) Royalty, Maggie Royalty, Kailey Robinson, Mallory Robinson, Thomas Robinson, Samantha McCarty, Abigail McCarty and Alec McCarty; his two great-grandsons, Kipton Royalty and Lincoln Royalty; and his sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Bill) Pugh. Fugate March 12, 1928 — Aug. 24, 2020 Beulah C. Fugate, 92, of Orleans, passed away at 11:56 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, at her residence. She was born March, 12, 1928, in Stickleyville, Virginia, the daughter of Alex and Ella (Pendley) Rasnic. She married William Robert “Bob” Fugate on April 6, 1949, and he preceded her in death on July 2, 2015. She was a member of Liberty Christian Church. She worked at Trav-Ler Radio and Television and retired in 1972 and was a homemaker. She is survived by one son, William R. “Bill” Fugate (Cheri) of Orleans; two grandsons, Wayne Fugate (Angie) of Bedford and Alex Fugate of Orleans; two great-granddaughters, Lexi and Allie Fugate of Bedford; one sister, Frances Wade (John) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and one brother, Alex Rasnic (Betty) of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; step-mother, Clara Rasnic; two sisters, Virginia Kestner and Georgia Whitley; and one brother, Billy Joe Rasnic. August 25, 2020 Kenneth John Korvela Feb. 07, 1937 — Aug. 23, 2020 Kenneth John Korvela, 83, of Springville, passed away at 12:30 am on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington. Born February 7, 1937 in Norway, MI, where he was raised by his beloved grandmother, Katherine Larson, and his adoring father, Edwin Korvela. He married Mary Lou Glasgow on June 18, 1958 and she survives. He was employed as a truck driver on the Crane Naval Base for over 33 years until his retirement. He served in the Army National Guard and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps where he received many medals for his service and achievements. He was involved in the local chapter of the Eagles and a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Born July 28, 1939 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Burt and Eva (Burford) Fletcher. Jeanine married Larry Joseph Spaulding and he preceded her in death in 2005. Bryce Whitson Jr., 38, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of New Albany, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, after a three-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Bryce was born on Feb. 16, 1982, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late L. Bryce and Sharon Hartman Whitson. He received his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue in 2009, and was a former employee of Naval Surface Warfare Center until he started his dream job with Hendrick Motorsports. His hobbies include running triathlons where he completed both Ironman 70.3 and Ironman 140.6 in Louisville and the Mag 7 Series in Bloomington. He also enjoyed simulation racing through the iRacing platform and volunteered as a Big Brother. In addition to his parents, Bryce was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary Whitson, Greg Whitson and Jimmy Hartman. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Keeton Whitson, who he married on July 18, 2009. Bryce is also survived by his brothers, Gerry Whitson and Tony Hartman; a sister, Missy Bloomer; three nephews, Brent, Bryan and Gary Whitson; and a niece, Kasey Boswell. Paul Edward Borgman April 22, 1921 — Aug. 23, 2020 Paul Edward Borgman, 99 of Columbus, IN passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020. He was born April 22, 1921 in Seymour, IN to Fred and Malinda Meyer Borgman. He graduated from Cortland High School in 1939. He married Jenet Middendorf on February 8, 1942 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jonesville, Indiana. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who was dedicated to his family. He loved family get togethers. Paul served in the US Army during WWII from August 20, 1942 until September 14, 1945. He was a Sargent in General Patton’s 3rd Army and was involved with the invasion of Utah Beach in Normandy, France. He earned a Bronze Star and several other medals. In his early years, he was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Waymansville. As a very involved member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, he held many offices for the past 78 years. Since buying the farm in 1955, he loved farming and raising cattle. He worked for Arvin Industries for 28 years and was employed as a Manufacturing Sales Rep until retiring in 1972. In his early 90’s, he planted trees knowing others would enjoy the shade they would provide. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Don Borgman and one great-great-granddaughter. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Jenet of Columbus, son, Larry (Connie) Borgman of Columbus and a daughter, Judy (Jake) Sharp of South Dakota, grandchildren, Kevin (Chris) Borgman, Darren (Laura Plummer) Borgman, Malinda (Jim) Davidson, Steve, John and Gary (Stacy) Claycamp, 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He was born in Orange County on January 28, 1952, he was the son of the late Bill and Alvena (Dotson) Willoughby. Rex graduated from Springs Valley High School in 1970. He was an outstanding athlete he played on the 1969 Indiana All Star Football Team. He was recruited to play football at Indiana University and transferred one year later to the University of Evansville. At Evansville he was selected as an outstanding college athlete of America in 1975. His college football team in 1974 played in the semi-final round of NCAA III Football Championship. Rex graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1976. Early on he worked along side his Dad at the French Lick Sheraton Hotel, for many years he worked for Bowen Engineering. August 22, 2020 Ray Warren Robison May 30, 1946 — Aug. 20, 2020 Ray Warren Robison, 74, was in his last act on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020. Born May 30, 1946, in Lafayette, he was the son of Betty R. (Edwards) and Ralph W. “Shorty” Robison. He married Martha Sue Harwood on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, 1967. Survivors include his wife, Martha Sue Robison of Mitchell; daughters, Martha E. “Beth” and Jeffrey Alton Waggoner of Indianapolis and Cynthia Sue and Adam Wayne Murray of Fishers; and grandchildren, Colton Henry, Madeline Rae and Grace Elizabeth Waggoner and Alexander Warren Murray. His parents preceded him in death. Ray graduated Mitchell High School in 1964, Indiana University Bachelor of Arts in 1968 and Indiana University School of Law (now Mauer School of Law) in 1971. He was initiated into Phi Delta Kappa legal fraternity in 1969, Phi Sigma Kappa social fraternity in 1966, and Arnold Air Society. He was sworn into the Supreme Court of State of Indiana and U. S. District Court in 1971. Ray served in the U. S. Air Force attaining the rank of 1st Lt. as procurement officer with an honorable discharge in 1972. He entered private practice of law first in Mitchell in 1973 and then in Bedford the summer of 1981. He served as Deputy Prosecutor beginning in 1974 and later as public defender. He served on the Drug Court beginning in 2005 and various dates as Judge Pro Tem. Ray was adjunct professor at Bedford College Center of Oakland City and WBIW broadcaster for Mitchell High School football and basketball games from 1975-1995. He wrote sports one season and occasional guest editorials for the Bedford Daily Times Mail. Ray had been a member of the Mitchell Rotary Club, was a member of American Legion Post No. 250, and was initiated in 1968 into the Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.& A. M. He received his 50 year pin in 2018. He served as an officer in Hoosier Hills Ham Club and had the call sign of K9ZRL since childhood. He gave over 200 tests for amateur radio licenses. Ray acquired a private pilot license in 1979 and served on the Lawrence County Airport Board. He also served on the Lawrence County Community Foundation Board in 1996 and again from 2018 to the present, and was a member of the Lawrence County Museum Board. Ray became a Master Gardener in 2003 and was a charter member of Hoosier Hillsides Master Gardeners Club and president in 2004. He served on the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission from 2007-2009 and assisted in the completion of the Plaza at Lincoln State Park in Spencer County. For many years he, with friends, attended conferences and toured Civil War Battlefields. He served from 1998-1999 as president of the Air Force ROTC Alumni Association, and was Phi Sigma Kappa Advisor for Sigma Triton Chapter re-chartering in 1991. He served as vice president of the Little Theatre Board in 1993-1994 and acted in several productions. Ray was a charter member and vice president of the Stonebelt Stargazers Astronomy Club which began in 2000. He was twice on the winning team of Brain Games, Civil War Marching and Chowder Society. Hughett, Sr, 73, of West Baden died August 15, 2020 at Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born January 18, 1947 in Cincinnati, OH to Theophilus and Sleta (Hodges) Hughett. He was also a member of the class of 1965 from Mitchell High School. He married Loretta “Kay” Ross on May 19, 1967. They were married for 53 years. Survivors include his wife Loretta; one daughter, Sheila (Jim) Tritle of Orleans; one son, Ray Hughett, Jr. (Melissa) of Orleans; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents and two brothers, Ronald and Michael Hughett. In life, Raymond served his community in many capacities including as a volunteer fireman, EMT and civil defense director. His community service career was honored on Sunday, August 16, with a drive-by of local fire and police departments including Orange County Rural District 2, Orleans Fire Department, Marion Township Fire and Rescue, Shawswick Fire Department, Huron Fire Department, Livonia Fire Department, Orleans Police Department, and Mitchell Police Department. She was born on Sept. 3, 1941, in Camden, Arkansas, to James Robertson and Katherine Scott Mitchell. She is survived by her brother and sisters, Katy Weikert, Robby Mitchell and Kristi Elia; her four children, Michael, Christopher and Jeffrey Hall, and Melissa Mitchell; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Barbara and Ron raised their four children in Oklahoma and Texas. The couple later moved to California. Following the death of her husband in 2007, Barbara moved to West Baden Springs to be closer to her sister, Katy, where she was very active in local community organizations including the West Baden Research Club, P.E.O. and a local book club. She regularly attended town council meetings with her sister, Katy Weikert, as well as church services at Mitchell Wesleyan, where she was on the prayer team, and Red Quarry Christian Church, where she enjoyed storytelling to the entire congregation. Kristan May 04, 1934 — Aug. 08, 2020 Frances “Fran” Elaine (Whitney) Kristan, 86, passed away at Hospice House, Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday August 8, 2020 after a long and graceful battle with cancer. Fran was born on May 4, 1934, in Indiana, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Frank Neal and Margaret (Barr) Whitney. Fran graduated from Pine High School in Heilwood, Pennsylvania and worked as a waitress and factory worker until she married Michael “Mike” Kristan on October 21, 1961. Fran spent the rest of her life as a homemaker and was also a babysitter to many children after she and her family relocated to Bedford, Indiana in 1978 for Mike’s career. Fran was more than a mom to her children; she was a mom and granny to those who entered her home. Fran, Mom, Granny, Gran, whatever you called her, she loved you and treated you as her own. Fran is survived by one daughter, Holly A. Kristan, Bedford; three sons, Daniel L. (Rene) Kristan, Bedford; Terry L. (Kira) Kristan, Stephenson, VA and Michael A. (LouAnn) Kristan, Orleans, IN, grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle, Dena, Jason, Nathan, Ashley, Ryan, Matthew, Kerissa, William, Samantha, Shyla, Rhiannon, Tatiana and Kaimana; 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great children. Carol Ruth Stickles Taylor Feb. 25, 1931 — Aug. 11, 2020 Carol Ruth Stickles Taylor, 89, formerly of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Franciscan Health Mooresville. Born, February 25, 1931 in Bedford, she was the daughter of George O. and Mary E. (Smale) Stickles. She was a factory worker for 15 years. Carol was a devout Christian having grown up Southern Baptist. She was a long time member of the Hillcrest Christian Church in Bedford. Carol’s Mother Mary and her Father George met while working at Rowe Mill on Garvey Lane in the 1920’s, married and had three children – Carol being the youngest. They lived with Carol’s grandmother in her home on Garvey Lane. When her grandmother and grandfather first purchased that home in 1896, it was a three room home with 12 acres. Carol’s father died when she was only eight months old. Her mother had to go back to work. So the Stickles children were raised by their grandmother (then a widow herself) while their mother worked. Carol had a special bond with her grandmother Lillie Delight. Carol went to Oolitic schools since their home was just outside the city limits. She went to Oolitic HS and then Bedford HS for one year. She married Louis T. Taylor in 1948 and they were married for over 50 years before he passed in 2002. She spent almost all of her years on Garvey Lane (now John Williams Blvd) where she and her husband raised four sons. The sons were raised in the same house in which Carol was born and in which Carol’s mother was born. The family always had large gardens and a lot of chickens with an occasional hog or two. Carol worked several years at Extruded Alloys near her home where she met many friends. She loved her life on the lane and has been called the Queen of Garvey Lane. Carol and her family’s rich history on the lane was the inspiration for a book titled “Garvey Lane, Bedford Indiana – An Unofficial History” as well as for the limestone marker near the intersection of SR 37 with John Williams Blvd. Carol loved to travel having taken trips to Ireland, France, Italy, Hawaii and a 17 day trip on Old Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angles with her son Danny in 2006. Her best trip was to Germany where she was able to visit the town and the church of her ancestors in the Black Forest area of Baden, Wurttemburg. There she was given copies the immigration information of her Great-Great Grandparents on her father’s side as well as additional family history dating back to the mid 1700’s. She was very handy with a sewing machine having made a lot of the clothes for her children. She also made clothes for her grandchildren as well as doll clothes for her granddaughters. Carol named her sewing closet Noah’s Ark because she had at least two of every kind of fabric known to man in there. Carol enjoyed playing cards with her best friends up until a few years ago and taking small trips with them. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, word searches and jigsaw puzzles. She loved family and family reunions and was especially fond of babies. Carol was loved by everyone she met. She had a great disposition with a warm smile and welcoming eyes. In fact, she was told a number of times how people loved the way she smiled with her eyes. Survivors include: two sons, Mark T. Taylor of Bedford and Danny G. Taylor and wife Karen of Greenwood, six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, James L. Sondra Kay Tarr was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was remembered by many as a very compassionate and caring person. Her most cherished title was “Mother” to her adopted daughter, Amy Jo, whom she cared for at home, until 10 months ago, when Amy’s new residence became White River Lodge. Amy was born out of Kay’s heart and taking care of her was Kay’s lifelong mission. Kay was a caregiver at heart and was always more concerned about others than herself. She was dedicated to her Father, God and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She knew His word and stood strong as a faith filled believer. She enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation, especially flowers, as she could always identify and name any variety or species. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.chastainfuneralhome.com Sharon Lee Tanksley Sharon Lee Tanksley, 72, of Bedford, entered her eternal glory on Aug. 4, 2020, after a brave battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Sharon was born the youngest of a set of twins to George and Shirley (Sego) Gilstrap. Sharon graduated from the Bedford High School in 1967. She married Mike Tanksley in a double ceremony, with her twin sister, on Aug. 19, 1967, and he survives. The loves of Sharon’s life were her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved nothing more than a backyard full of family on a hot summer day, enjoying the swimming pool and whimsical decorations. Sharon was a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church where you could find her attending services, participating in children’s programs and ministering wherever she had an opportunity. In 2002, she played an active role in the building of the Mitchell Memorial Playground. You could find her, every day, providing wheelchair guided tours of the playground as it was being constructed. When MS took her ability to work as a bookkeeper for Smith’s Jewelers, she stayed home and occupied her time by making salt-dough ornaments and pins. They were a hit and all of the Mitchell High School Class of 2011 wore a Sharon Tanksley original MHS Bee. Sharon may have had MS, but MS didn’t have her. She continued to do as much as she physically could, right up to the end of her journey. She was born December 15, 1944 in Bedford to parents Charles Everett and Nettie (Terrell) Brewer. She married Larry Richard Wells April 28, 1972. She was retired from GE and was a small business owner. She was a member of Church of God Prophecy. Kay enjoyed ministering to others and demonstrated her beliefs and faith in all she did. Whether that was providing food to needy families, donating clothes to those in need from a second hand store that she ran. In 2005 Kay became an ordained minister and continued to share her faith, knowledge and love of God with everyone she met. During retirement she was a caregiver to her ailing sister, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kay enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Some might say that she was a thrill seeker as well, from spending time at the race track in her younger years to riding roller coasters at the age of 69 with her grandchildren to going zip-lining two days before her 74th birthday. August 03, 2020 Johnny Elwood Henderson April 05, 1952 — July 31, 2020 Johnny Elwood Henderson, 68, of Paoli, passed away at 9:52 p.m. on July 31, 2020, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born April 5, 1952, in Bedford, the son of Gerald H. and Rachel (Chastain) Henderson. He married Kathryn “Kate” (Conner) Henderson on July 15, 1978, and she survives. He graduated from Orleans High School, Class of 1970, and attended Indiana State University where he studied Speech and English and was a member of Alpha Sigma Iota broadcasting fraternity. He was an ordained minister and member of several churches; currently pastor at Bliss Place and member of Lost River Missionary Baptist and Open Door Community Fellowship. Johnny is a legend in local high school sports broadcasting, long-time Salem Speedway track announcer, and well-known radio personality on WSLM, WBOW, WBIW, WUME and several other radio stations. He also worked at Paoli Incorporated, G.C. Murphy, and served as foundation director for Dunn Memorial Hospital. He was inaugural president of the Optimist Club of Salem, supported the Lawrence County Suicide Prevention Coalition, and was a member of Orleans Lodge No. 153 F. & A.M. and Order of the Eastern Star French Lick Chapter No. 249. He is survived by his wife, Kate, of Paoli; one brother, Ron, of Chicago; step mom, Velma Harris Henderson of Orleans; three step-brothers, Tim Ball (Cindy) of Texas, Tom Ball (Patricia) of Salem and Brett Pittman of Bedford; mother-in-law Marlene Conner; sister-in-law, Debra Woolston; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his father-in-law, John Conner. He is survived by Snickers. Sam and Lester, and April preceded him in death. Johnny was known to his many, many friends as “The Big Guy” for his large compassion and generosity of spirit. Buffaloes were his spirit animal. Music and reading were passions matched with his large collection of vinyl albums and books, and he carefully selected ties from his collection for preaching and for the many weddings and funerals for which he was invited to officiate. He liked NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs, and had a special love for reading to kids, acting in regional theater, radio announcing, and dramatic reading. Most of all, Johnny liked to talk. He was born in Heltonville on November 16, 1943 to Ambrose David Nicholson and Anna M. (Boone) Nicholson. David was a graduate of Heltonville High School and was an US Air Force veteran.
