Sharon Kay Collins, 77, formerly of Benton, Arkansas, left this earth to be with her heavenly Father on April 25, 2022, while residing in Bedford, Indiana.

Born on August 16, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, Sharon moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas as a young child where she graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1962.

Sharon loved taking care of horses during her teenage years and later in life, taking care of people as a registered nurse. But nothing surmounted her love for her late husband, Charles “Joe” Collins and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sharon’s Bible was never out of reach because even though she was legally blind, she could recite many passages as these words were embedded in her heart and mind. Sharon showed her love to others by creating beautiful artistic quilts, crocheting stockings, and dish towels. And although she didn’t drive after 1992, each of these creations were personally selected during her many trips to the craft stores.

Sharon is survived by her four children, Debra (Virgil) McKinney, Tamara (John) Dufresne, Kevin (Francie) Collins, and Douglas (Jeanna) Collins; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Charles “Joe” Collins, her parents Eugene and Frances Manatt, and both her brothers, William and Robert Manatt.

At the wishes of Sharon, there will be no services at this time. Sharon will join her husband in burial at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has established an endowment fund that will continue to give to others, just has Joe and Sharon Collins have done their entire careers. Donations can be sent in memory of Sharon or Joe Collins to Lawrence County Community Foundation, PO Box 1235, Bedford, IN 47421-1235.

Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, Indiana has been entrusted with Sharon’s arrangements.

Tom grew up during the Depression and a time when community bands were a very popular activity that served as a pastime as well entertainment for the community through parades and concerts. Tom’s family were active participants, his dad as a trombonist and baritone singer. He taught Tom to play trombone at an early age, and fostered an ability that defined many of Tom’s lifetime activities thereafter and one that he continued to develop until the end of his life. His favorites were Sousa marches, big band, Dixieland, and jazz. He played piano as well.

Early in his college life at Wabash College he was drafted, and during his service in World War II he suffered a combat wound in the Battle of the Bulge. Many years in military hospitals and multiple surgeries failed to save his injured leg. He completed his degree at Wabash College and a Master’s Degree at the University of Denver. He then contributed many years to the field of education as a teacher, administrator, and developer of curricula in schools in Divernon, IL, at The Colorado Academy in Denver, at The Ojai Valley School in Ojai, CA, and at the Idaho Department of Correction in Boise. His family enriched his personal and professional life.

When he was seventy-six years of age he married Patty Lee, a friend since grade school, and together they enjoyed music offerings in the Hendersonville, NC, area, as well as participation in the First Presbyterian Church, and the Faith Fellowship Church at Ardenwoods Retirement Community where they resided. It was during this time that Patty led him to write and publish his autobiography, Depression, War, Disability Be Damned: Praise God. After Patty’s death he relocated to Boise to be with his family there and to enjoy activities at the Terraces Retirement Community, where he was instrumental in organizing Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances, as well as Sunday morning church services for the residents of the Terraces. As a result of his Christian faith, he continued to write and publish for friends and family: Spiritual Reflections of Tom Lee; Seeds of Spiritual Reflections, Vols 1, 2, 3; and Snippets.

Cindi Brand

Local entrepreneur, Cindi Brand, left her earthly body to walk with Christ, her Lord and Savior, on Monday, March 28 while surrounded by her family at IU Hospital in Bloomington.

In just 50 short years, Cindi created an immensely beautiful life with her husband Chris. Together they had two children, whom Cindi loved unconditionally. Most weekends throughout their youth, it was easy to find Cindi poolside at Alexis’s swim meets or behind the dugout at Avery’s games. More recently, she liked to spend time with her granddaughter, Scout, and her lifelong friends, who became her chosen family. One of Cindi’s hobbies was to browse furniture stores online to get inspiration for the breathtakingly beautiful homes that she and Chris built.

Family and friends would describe Cindi as the most generous, most loving, most patient, most supportive, most forgiving, and the kindest person with the biggest heart. Anyone who met Cindi felt that if more people could love like her and be open to new experiences, the world would be a better place. Cindi had a curious mind and enjoyed learning from others, as she knew there was always more to know.

Cindi not only dedicated her life to her husband and children, but she was a faithful servant to God. She spent more than 20 years as an active member of Crossroads Community Church, and had recently been attending Highview Baptist Church. Cindi frequently said God gifted her the call to give. As a business owner, Cindi often spearheaded many fundraisers with her staff to help organizations with their needs. She regularly helped family, friends, and even strangers with anything they may have needed. The most precious gift she gave many people was her time. No matter how many tasks Cindi needed to accomplish, she always made time to listen and offer support and an encouraging word or two. We will never forget, her witnessing to family members the last few moments of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Cindi’s spirit of giving be honored and donations be made to the “Cindi Brand Scholarship Fund” which will be an annual gift to a Lawrence County graduating senior that is attending college. Or gather with your loved ones over chips and salsa to share stories that will make you laugh. Cindi leaves behind her beloved husband, Chris; daughter Alexis Ramsey (Brett); son Avery Brand; granddaughter Scout Ramsey; mother Karen Axsom (Mike); father Kenny Edwards (Marsha); four sisters, a brother, several nieces and nephews, and many friends who became family. For the lives she’s impacted so greatly with her generous love, she will be cherished by them all.

Her celebration of life will be held at Bedford First Church of God (Bedford, IN) on Monday, April 4th at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be Sunday, April 3rd, from 3-8 pm in the same location.
