01/30/05 Nikirk – Gladys M. Nikirk of Oolitic, IN, died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Bedford. Born on August 27, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Mundy) Wagoner. She married Warren Nikirk on August 31, 1943, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Carol Parish and husband, Carl, of Bedford, IN; one son, Tommy Dean Nikirk of Oolitic, IN; one granddaughter, Corey Brooke Nikirk; and three sisters, Marjorie Voorhies of Mitchell, IN, Nancy Brock and Phyllis Hill, both of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Stephen Nikirk in 1973; one brother, Harold Wagoner; and one sister, Mary Boling. She was a homemaker and a member of Oolitic Pentecostal Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 2nd, at Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Mark Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. 01/29/05 Barnett – Marsha Anne Barnett of Oolitic, IN, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 25, 1946, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas and Marcella (Pace) Hardy. She married Gary Barnett on October 9, 1987, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are three daughters; Elizabeth Buchanan of Loganville, GA, Stephanie McMichael of Lebanon, IN, and Kathryn Bradley of Monroe, GA; four sons: Richard Allino of California, Brian Hardy and Bradley Barnett, both of Indiana, and Richard Lambert of Sevierville, TN; fourteen grandchildren; and two brothers, Larry May and Chris Hardy, both of Oolitic, IN. She was a purchasing agent and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, VFW and Eagles. Graveside services for Marsha Barnett will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31st, at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg with Bro. Kenny Dalton officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Daugherty – Vernon Ray Daugherty Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born February 16, 1936, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Shirley and Ida Mae (Aynes) Daugherty. He married Gabriella Patroni August 19, 1991 and she survives. Surviving with his wife is one brother, John Daugherty of Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a retired employee of General Electric and a taxi driver. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of Oakland City University. Graveside services for Vernon Daugherty will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 3rd, at Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Arrangements are pending at Chastain Funeral Home. 01/28/05 Axom-Symborski, Kagan Isaac- Kagan Axsom-Szymborksi, 18 months, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Born on July 7, 2003, in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Peter Szymborski and Christy Axsom. Surviving with his parents are his maternal grandmother, Lenora Sipes of Heltonville, IN; two brothers: James Axsom and his wife Tiffany of Bedford, IN; Sean Szymborski of Bloomington, IN; one niece, Dacey Axsom of Bedford, IN; one nephew, Dawson Axsom of Bedford, IN; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Sipes, and paternal grandparents, Ronald and Barbara Szymborski. He was a member of Truth Apostolic Tabernacle in Bloomington. Carter – Edna Penelope Carter of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 10, 1947, she was the daughter of James H. and Katherine Turpin Embree. She married Ralph Eugene Carter, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are children: Ralph Eugene Carter Jr. of Bedford, IN, and Joshua Carter, Taylor Wade Carter and Melissa Ann Carter, all of Mitchell, IN, and Melody Longest of Somerset, KY; one brother, James T. Embree of Shelbyville, KY; two sisters, Mary Tincher of Bedford, IN, and Kay Smith of Taylorsville, IN; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Melinda Asbury. She was a member of the Bryantsville Church of Christ. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bryantsville Cemetery. Dorsett – Junalee Dorsett of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County. Born June 1, 1922, in West Baden Springs, IN, she was the daughter of James W. and Effie Belle (Cogswell) Lindsey. She married George P. Dorsett January 24, 1941, and he died April 25, 1997. Surviving are one son, Phillip Dorsett of Huron, IN; one sister, Margaret Ann Peyton of Bedford, IN; one brother, Harold Alva Lindsey of Houston, TX; two grandsons, Michael Phillip Dorsett and Steven George Dorsett; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, James Lee Lindsey. Services for Junalee Dorsett will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 1st, at Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Fidler – David K. Fidler of Oolitic, IN, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Day & Carter Mortuary. Glasgow – Thelma Rogers Glasgow of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born June 24, 1912, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James W. and Cora A. (Goodman) Hillenberg. She married Clovia (Tony) Rogers in December, 1962, and he preceded her in death. She married Joseph Glasgow in December 1986, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are five children: Carolyn Beal of Bloomington, IN, Eldena Lagle of Tennessee, and Connie Mathis, Lana Chenault and Linda Tumey, all of Bedford, IN; one sister, Helen Chastain of Terre Haute, IN; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her both husbands; five children: Kenneth Rogers, James Rogers, Sylvester Thomas Rogers, Dennis Edwin Rogers and Gary Scott Rogers; one sister, Ruth Stewart; and four brothers: Therman, Freeland, Winfred and Stanley Hillenberg. She was a homemaker, head cook at Kerns Restaurant, and also a seamstress at M. Fines. She had eight years of formal education and nurse's training. She was of the Baptist faith. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home. 01/27/05 Kruchten – Malcolm Newland Kruchten of Bedford, IN, formerly of Orleans, IN, Thursday, January 27, 2005, at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born July 18, 1927, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Albert Frank and Esther (Newland) Kruchten. He married Marcia Helen Chambers on September 18, 1954, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Charles O. Kruchten of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Susan L. Flynn of Nashville, IN, and Beth A. Landreth of Washington, IN; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Albert Eugene Kruchten of Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by his one son, Donald Curtis Kruchten. He was a 1945 graduate of Bedford High School and an accountant for Emconite Plastics in Medora, IN, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Coast Guard and a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Gillen Post #33 and the National Assoc. of Accountants. Reynolds of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, IN, died Thursday, January 27, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 9, 1928, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Jack F. and Leona (Swarringim) Reynolds, Sr. He married Margaret Joan Tirey November 26, 1953, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Timothy D. Reynolds of Indianapolis, IN, and Randolph E. Reynolds of Syracuse, NY; two grandsons, Christopher R. Reynolds and Jesse M. Reynolds; and one granddaughter, Allyson C. Reynolds. He graduated in 1946 from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis and attended Butler University. He retired as deputy treasurer of Marion County in 1989. He was a US Navy veteran and a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church. Haley of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born July 31, 1915, in Tunnelton, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas Joshua and Myrtle (Jean) Faris. She married Garland Haley July 3, 1937, and he died on May 29, 1995. Surviving are three sisters, Izillah Bush, Virginia Bennett, and Barbara Sallee, all of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Ernest Faris; and four sisters, Ellen Hobson, Rachel Starr, Anna Mary Gabbert, and Kathryn Wade. She was a homemaker and a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a 1933 graduate of Campbellsburg High School. Incollingo – Larry Incollingo of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. He was born April 27, 1919. He married Marion (Quinn) Fleener, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are five daughters: Linda Hatch of Apple Valley, CA, Patricia Comer of Bedford, IN, Susie Lambton and Mary Jane Neely, both of Mooresville, IN, and Lisa Strange of Oolitic, IN; one son, Larry Incollingo Jr. of Harrodsburg, IN; one stepdaughter, Jayne Fleener of Baton Rouge, LA; one stepson, John Fleener Jr. of Bloomington, IN; four sisters: Patsy Ulmschneider of East Greenwich, RI, Ann Sullivan of Warren, RI, Chris Midlin-McNeill of West Hartford, CT, and Carole Woodruff of Honolulu, Hawaii; two brothers, Alfred Incollingo and Fidele Incollingo Jr., both of Warren, RI; 15 grandchildren; one step-grandson; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a newspaper columnist, having worked at the Bloomington Herald-Times and the Bedford Daily Times-Mail. He was the author of numerous books, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as a pharmacist mate during World War II. Born March 10, 1943, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of William and Moneva (Hillenburg) Davis. Surviving are one daughter, Regina Kaye Pierce and her friend, Shelley Roberts of East Oolitic; one son, Roger Dean Pierce, Jr. and his wife, Kim of East Oolitic; two sisters, Janet Glasgow of Springville and Joyce Collins and her husband, Dean of Bedford; five brothers, William Davis, Jr. and his wife, Nancy and Claude Davis and his wife, Debbie all of Bedford, Dennis Davis and his wife, Arlene and Philip Davis all of East Oolitic and Robert Davis of the Shawswick community; one step-daughter, Gerri Lynn Thompson of Washington; two step-sons, Chris and Jeff Thompson of Washington; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one step-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and one step-son, Roger Dean Keller. She retired from NSWC CRANE after twenty-eight years and was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church. Born May 3, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Mundy) Wagoner. She married Harry Boling and he died on October 7, 2003. Surviving are six children: Deborah R. Kinder of Shoals, IN, Deanna L. Pemberton of Mitchell, IN, Judy Hamilton of Oolitic, IN, Donnie E. Boling of New Castle, IN, Jack Sproles of Mitchell, IN, and Jim Sproles of Bedford, IN; four sisters: Phyllis Hill and Nancy Brock, both of Bedford, IN, Marjorie Voorhies of Mitchel, IN, and Gladys Nikirk of Oolitic, IN; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Harold Wagoner; one granddaughter, Lisa Ann Smith; and one great-grandson, Jarrod Scott Sproles. Baker of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 22nd at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on April 25, 1909, in Orange County, IN, he was the son of Ernest Baker and Jenny (Combs) Baker. He married Minnie Gregory who died on July 17, 1973. He later married Frances Gilbert and she died in April 1, 1983. Surviving are two daughters: Brenda Poore of Bono, IN, and Mary Beavers of Mitchell, IN; three sons: Robert Baker of Springville, IN, Bill Baker of Bartlettsville, IN, and Ben Baker of Missouri; two step-daughters: Geraldine Smith and Maxine Fleenor, both of Bedford, IN; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives; one daughter, Anita Thompson; four brothers; one sister; one grandson; one granddaughter and one step-granddaughter. He was a retired Molder at Central Foundry, member of the UAW Local 440 and a member of Grace Baptist Church of Springville. Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary on Tuesday from 3:00-8:00 P.M. 01/21/05 Kessinger – Michael Donavon Kessinger of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on April 27, 1954, in Morgantown, KY, he was the son of Charles and Bernice (Hunt) Kessinger. He married Jeannette Qualkenbush on Sept. 14, 1980, in Lawrence County, IN, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are his father, Charles Kessinger of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Melinda "Joanie" Thickstun of Bloomington, IN; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Kessinger in 1999. He was a machine operator at Visteon of Bedford. He was a graduate of Bloomington South High School and completed two years of college. He was of the Protestant Faith and was a member of the IUE/CWA Union. He was a musician who performed in the area, including the Little Nashville Opry in Nashville. He went by the stage name of Michael Bannon. Fry – Phyllis Robertson Fry of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Meadowwood in Bloomington. Born on May 29, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lionel and Zella Spoonmore Robertson and the oldest of eight children. She married Ray W. Fry, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are her children: Susan Cummings of Nashville, IN, Dennis Fry of Indianapolis, IN, Laurie Coats of Jeffersonville, IN, Jeffrey Fry of Muncie, IN, and Todd Fry of Advance, IN; two brothers, Don Robertson of Carmel, IN, and Bill Robertson of Indianapolis, IN; five sisters: Randy Maloney of Midland, TX, Judith Tindall of Jacksonville, FL, Sara Harp of Oolitic, IN, Brenda Stewart of Mooresville, IN, and Patty Robertson of Ellettsville, IN; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a 1942 graduate of Needmore High School and was employed in personnel and cost accounting at Sarkes Tarzian, Inc. for 42 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church for almost 60 years. Active in the Bedford chapter of Altrusa International, where she served five terms as president, she had also served as both local and national president of Omega Nu Tau sorority. She was an organizer and past president of ABWA, where she was named ABWA Woman of the Year in 1986. Mrs. Fry was also a former co-chairwoman of the Lawrence County Multiple Sclerosis fund drive. She was an accomplished artist and poet, having been published in several anthologies, and five books of her poems were also published. She was a member of the International Poets Hall of Fame. Additionally, for many years, she and her late husband Ray were world tour directors and 4-H leaders. where Mrs. Fry had been a member for nearly 60 years Funeral services will be held at Mt. White – Benny Wayne White of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 13, 1935, he was the son of Hobert and Bessie (Kirk) White. He married Jean Sipes on Sept. 16, 1960, in Bedford, IN. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Jeff White of Springville, IN, and Kevin White of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren; three brothers: Robert White, Jerry White and Roger White, all of Bedford, IN; and one sister, Vickie Prince of Heltonville, IN. He was preceded in death by both parents; three brothers: Bill White, Ronnie White and Carl White; one sister, Betty Cooper; and one daughter, Barbara Mynatt. He worked for Jackson Oil Co. as a filling station attendant, and was a mover for John W. Tumey Moving Co. for 23 years. Born on March 28, 1950, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Melvin Bradley "M. B." and Grace Delmar (Stigall) Cobb. He married Edna Floetta Wright February 3, 1978, and she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Cleaver. From the age of 16 until his disability retirement in 2000, he had worked as a plasterer for residential and commercial projects. Born December 18, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Richard and Ruby R. (Horan) Kern. She married Ambrose J. Craig whom she later divorced. Surviving are two sons, Richard D. Kern of Bedford, IN, and Montgomery Allen Craig of Flat Rock, IN; one sister, Roberta Davis of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Bill R. Kern of Bedford, IN, and Luther M. Kern of Mitchell, IN; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a greeter at Walmart in Bedford for ten years and worked with the Boy Scouts of America for several years. She was an active member of the Englewood Baptist Church. Born on November 17, 1929, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Harvey and Cassie (Wood) Guthrie. She married James N. Chapman on November 16, 1946, and he died on November 30, 1987. Surviving are two sons, Thomas O. Chapman and Robert N. Chapman, both of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Debra Russell of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, Evelyn Guthrie of Mitchell, IN, and Esther Falk of Monroe, WI; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandson, Caden Chapman and Michael Gray; three sisters; and one brother. She retired from Fleenor's Dry Cleaning in Mitchell. She was a member of Woodville Baptist Church and the Mitchell Senior Citizen. Baker of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on November 4, 1918, in Jackson County, IN, he was the son of Nellie Glover and Marshall Baker. He married Mary A. Bair on July 6, 1941. Surviving with his wife is one son, Charles Keith Baker of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Linda Lee (Baker) Smith of Bedford, IN; one sister, Genevive Cowles of Vallonia, IN; five grandchildren: Bryan K. Smith, Lori D. (Smith) Day, Stacy D. (Baker) Gilmore, Erika M. (Baker) McKinney and Jordan K. Baker; eight great-grandchildren: Hannah, Evan, Riley, Bailee, Dravan, Kinley, Payton and Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. He was retired from NSWC CRANE and was a veteran of WW II, serving as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force including thirty-one months overseas. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he had served as an elder, a member of the United Worker’s Sunday School Class, and a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM. (Bert) Foddrill of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, in Bedford. Born January 16, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Louis and Macil (Rainey) Foddrill. He married Lavella Craig in April 1954, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Patty Martin and her husband, Mike, Donna Holler and her husband, David, and Sondra Hubbard and her husband, David, all of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Robert Foddrill and his wife, Flossie, Danny Foddrill and his wife, Linda, all of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren: Kelly Caudill and her husband, Billy, Tammy Taylor and her husband, Harry, Lora Joyner and her husband, Greg, Jimmy Courtright and his wife, Stephanie, Shayne Hubbard, Daymon Hubbard and his wife, Amanda; three step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Deanna Walker and Kristy Lester; one great-niece; one uncle, Dale Rainey and one aunt, Mildred Callahan. He was preceded in death by his parents. He retired from General Motors in Bedford and was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army. Worley, all of Texas; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Maxine Tustin and Vivian Braswell.
