07/31/02

Skeen – Jerry Skeen of Louisville, KY, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Norton's Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. Born on October 7, 1944, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of William and Violet (McKinney) Skeen.

Surviving are his parents of Bedford, IN; three brothers: Bobby Skeen, Jackie Skeen, and Randy Skeen, all of Bedford, IN; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was of Baptist faith.

Services for Jerry Skeen will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3rd, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Fahr – Kari Summer Fahr of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born on July 10, 1986, in Indianapolis, IN, she was the daughter of Kenneth J. and Brenda S. (Beaver) Fahr. Surviving are her parents; one sister, Krish Fahr at home; one brother, K. J. Fahr of Ft. Carson U.S. Army Base, Colorado Springs, CO; maternal grandparents, Don and Judy Beaver of Plainfield, IN; and maternal grandparents, Bill and Edith Fahr of Cincinnati, OH.

She was a student at BNL High School. She was a member of "I Care" Counsel, Varsity Soccer team, Beta Club, Campus Life and Letterman's Club. She attended the First Baptist Church in Bedford and attended the youth group at Mitchell Church of Christ. She worked at Paoli Peaks as a snow board instructor and was a volunteer at the Bedford Regional Medical Center and Bloomington Hospital.

Services for Kari Fahr will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3rd, at the First Assembly of God Church in Bedford with Pastor John Dodd and Bro. Gary Spear officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 11 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the church. Allen – Gladys L. Allen of Bedford, IN, died July 29, 2002, at the Hospitality House. Born on March 6, 1906, in Terre Haute, IN, she was the daughter of John O. Nelson and Ida (Brown) Nelson. She married Oran Bass Chapman in 1923, and he preceded her in death. She married Raymond E. Allen in 1950, and he died in 1970.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. William (Norma) Gilstrap of Bedford, IN; one daughter-in-law, Marilou Chapman of Mitchell, IN; six grandchildren: Gaylene Layton of Greencastle, IN, Jo Ellen Brinegar of Bedford, IN, Sondra Blaschke of Martinsville, IN, Thomas Chapman, Debra Russell, and Robert Chapman, all of Mitchell, IN; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one step-daughter-in-law, Madie Allen of Bedford, IN; one step-grandson, Gary Allen; two step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and one half-brother, Paul Wheeler of Bloomfield, IN. She was preceded in death by both husbands; one son, James N. Chapman; one great-grandson; one half-brother; four half-sisters; two brothers, John Nelson and one in childhood; one sister, Daisy Russell.

She was a homemaker and had worked as a saleswoman at J.C. Penney Co. in Bedford for several years. She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church.

Services for Gladys Allen will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 5th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Price – Robert W. Price of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Bedford, IN. Born on January 13, 1981, in Marion County, IN, he was the son of Marshall Price and Lesa (Cassidy) George. He married Tracey Robertson on December 19, 1998, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife, Tracey, of Vincennes, IN, are three daughters, Tiana and Kiera Price, both at home, and Alexis Ping of Louisville, KY; one son, Dayton Price, at home; his father, Marshall of South Bent, IN; his mother, Lesa of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Maggie Longest of Bedford, IN, and Angela Price of Indianapolis, IN; pone brother, Marshall Price, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; and his maternal grandmother, Margaret Cassidy of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lowell and Emma Price, and his maternal grandfather, Wayne Cassidy.

He was an auto maintenance worker in Bedford and attended Charity Chapel in Bedford.

Services for Robert Price will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 31st, at Charity Chapel with Sister Rebecca Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in Hopkins Cemetery in Needmore, IN. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday at Charity Chapel. The family asks that friends consider contributions be made to the Price family.

Browning – Shirley A. Browning of East Oolitic, IN, died Thursday, July 26, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on July 14, 1936, she was the daughter of Wesley P. and Virginia (Raines) Wray. She married J.D. Browning on February 8, 1957, in Oolitic, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, Rick Browning of Oolitic, IN, and Barry Browning and wife, Shawn of Oolitic, IN; two daughters, Jacklyn Crozier and husband, Dobbin, and Becky (Browning) Dobbs, all of Oolitic, IN; two sisters, Helen Sharr of Oolitic, IN, and Eva Eads of Texas; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, four brothers, and two sisters.

She was employed in environmental services at Dunn Memorial Hospital. She attended Oolitic Baptist Church.

Furnish – Sadie M. Furnish of Bedford, IN, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at the Hospitality House in Bedford. She was born on October 28, 1904, in Redfield, AR. She married Roger Furnish, and he died in 1993.

Surviving are two sons, Roger Furnish of Bedford, IN, and Paul Furnish of Naperville, IL; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, and three sisters.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Orion Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock AR.

Services for Sadie Furnish will be in little Rock, AR, at a later date. Local information was provided by the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Tolbert – Harry E. Tolbert of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at his residence. He was born on October 13, 1933.

Surviving are one son, Paul E. Tolbert of Bedford, IN; three daughters: Kathy Burbrink, Teresa Terrell, and Tammy Pridemore, all of Mitchell, IN; his companion, Virginia Fox of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, Susie Waggoner of Bedford, IN, and Rosie Tolbert of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Joe Tolbert of Williams, IN; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was a farmer, school bus driver, and a retired employee of Carpenter Body Works. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War.

Services for Harry Tolbert will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 29th, at Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by members of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 3:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 a.m. until the service time Monday at the Chastain Funeral Home.

Fox – Goldie Mae Melvin Fox of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, July 24, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 31, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Oscar D. and Lettie (Bocock) Watson. She married Otha Melvin, and he preceded her in death. She married Harley Fox and he died August 23, 1993.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Pauline Lagle and husband, Gerry, of Mitchell, IN; two stepchildren, Donald L. Melvin and Emogene Allen, both of Beech Grove, IN; one sister, Mary Esther Howard of Mitchell, IN; two grandsons, David Lagle and Jason Lable, both of Mitchell, IN; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Olivia Lagle. She was preceded in death by her husbands; two sisters, a twin, Ola Fay Watson and Ella Watson; and five brothers: Oscar, Lawrence, Paul, James, and Clarence Watson.

She was a homemaker and member of Mitchell Senior Citizens.

Clark – Theo M. Clark of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the Westview Nursing & Rehab Center. Born on April 1, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Delia Burford. She married Lawrence H. Clark on January 27, 1933, and he died May 25, 1976.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Clark and Terry Clark, both of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Judy Bolton of Bedford, IN; one sister, Mary Blakey of St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren: Brian Bolton, Julie Bolton, Lisa Kroll, Michael Clark, Mark Clark, and Paul Clark; eight great-grandchildren: Bryce and Brandon Bolton, Megan, Ashley, and Haley Kroll, Kaine, Presley, and Phoenix Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son in infancy; and five sisters: Glovenia Spear, Ethel Brown, Straucie Brown, Flossie Burford, and Jessie Burford.

She was a homemaker and manager of the Thrift Dollar Store in Bedford. She was a member of the First Church of God and Fairview United Brethren.

Services for Theo Clark will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Revs. Floyd Brick and Kenny Fisher and Dr. John R. Buttz officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Chase – Delilia L. Chase of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital. She was born on October 10, 1929. She married Joe Chase, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Elaine Tarr and LuAnn Williams, both of Bedford, IN; two sons, Gary Chase and Mike Chase, both of Bedford, IN; one brother, Jerry Myers of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker.

Farmer – Joe E. Farmer of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on August 4, 1926, in Calloway County, KY, he was the son of Marvin and Agnes Gertrude (Gooch) Farmer. He married Rosamond Ranard on November 28, 1963, at the Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford, IN, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Roger Griffith of Texas; one daughter, Rechelle Rucar of Florence, one brother, Jerry Farmer of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Mauzee Logsdon of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Belle Padgett, and two sisters and two brothers in childhood.

He was a retired pipefitter for Indiana Gas Company with thirty-six years of service and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He attended Englewood Baptist Church and was a member of Bowhunters and American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Troyer – Kristy Lynn Troyer of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on November 9, 1999, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Richard Lee and Tammy Lynn (Hopper) Troyer, Sr.

Surviving are her parents, Richard and Tammy Troyer, Sr. of Mitchell, IN; siblings: Ashlee Troyer, Anna Troyer, and Richard Troyer, Jr., all at home; grandparents, Jackie Hopper of Mitchell, IN, and Roger Troyer of Orleans. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles Hopper, Sr., and Margaret Crowe.

There will be graveside services for Kristy Troyer at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 25th, at Bethel Cemetery with Brother Wayne Pendley officiating. Friends may call from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home.

Porter – Otto William Porter of Bedford, IN, formerly of Avoca, IN, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at the Hospitality House. Born on July 22, 1903, in Oolitic, IN, he was the son of Thomas and Nora Belle (Evans) Porter.

Surviving are his caregivers, Conrad and Cathleen Nelson of Bedford, IN; He was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary, Erie, and Verla; and two brother, Gordon and Brooks.

He was a mechanic at Porter's Garage in Avoca and a member of F.O.P. and a member of the Moose Lodge (Pilgrim degree) for fifty years.

Services for Otto Porter will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Richard Tallman and Mark Sharpe officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary, where a Moose Memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Richardson – Oneita Iris Richardson of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, July, 21, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on May 19, 1911, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Charles H. and Elizabeth (Rariden) Richardson.

Surviving are one brother, Horace Richardson and wife, Mary, of Bedford, IN; her companion, Marjorie Charles; six nieces, two nephews, six great-nieces, two great-nephews, four great-great-nephews, and one great-great-great-nephew. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles, in 1989.

She retired in 1981 after 41 years as an x-ray technician at Dunn Hospital, where she had also worked in the laboratory. She received her x-ray training at Purdue University. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Priscilla Club, and Omega Nu Tau Sorority.

Services for Oneita Richardson will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 24th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Aronson – Linda Lou Aronson of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Dunn Hospital. Born on May 30, 1953, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Bennie Leroy and Shirley (Butler) Flynn. She married Steve Aronson on June 19, 1970, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are three daughters: Amy Vaught and Kristy Spinks, both of Bedford, IN, and Stephanie Aronson of Palmdale, CA; her mother, Shirley, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Greg Flynn of Bedford, IN; one sister, Susie Swango of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, Makenzie and Garrett Spinks; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Leroy Flynn; her grandparents; and one brother, Danny Leroy Flynn (in infancy).

She worked in quality control at Visteon and was a member of the Oolitic Pentecostal Church and Local Union 84907 at Visteon.

Services for Linda Aronson will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 24th, at the Oolitic Pentecostal Church with Bro. Keith Thompson and the Rev. Doug Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Springville. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the Oolitic Pentecostal Church. Services are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Bunch – Stanley Bunch of Bloomington, IN, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 28, 1943, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Thomas and Villa (Miller) Bunch.

No funeral services are planned. The body was cremated. Arrangements were under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Pfeffer – Gladys R. Pfeffer of Bedford, IN, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at the Hospitality House. Born on June 10, 1904, in Mockport, IN, she was the daughter of Ernest and Viola Neely. She married Neal Skinner and he preceded her in death. She later married Roman Pfeffer, and he died on January 13, 1980.

Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Skinner of Bedford, IN; one granddaughter, Catherine Martin of Indianapolis; one grandson, Brian Skinner of Bedford, IN; and four great-grandchildren: Steven Whitner, Caitlin Martin, and Robert Martin, all of Indianapolis, and Bretta Skinner of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by both husbands; one son, Robert Skinner; two sisters, Carletta Armon and Mary Alice Best; and one brother, Bert Neely.

She was the former co-owner of the Pfeffer Bakery in Bedford and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Altrusa International, and AARP.

Services for Gladys Pfeffer will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21st, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Sister Joan Leurman officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Mausoleum. Friends may call from noon until the service time on Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions to the Limestone Girls Club or White River Humane Society.

Yaney – Esther Purlee Yaney of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at Mitchell Manor Nursing Home. Born on November 3, 1913, in Georgetown, IN, she was the daughter of Albert and Martha Oakes. She married Richard Simpson Purlee on October 1, 1939, and he died March 30, 1993. She married Ogal Yaney on February 23, 1995, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one son, one daughter, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one step-son, three step-daughters, one brother, ten step-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren.

She was a school teacher at Burris, Shawswick, and Englewood Schools and was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ.

Services for Esther Yaney will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 23rd, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Burris – Gladys E. Burris of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Clarksville, IN. Born on September 30, 1908, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of George Howard and Lena (Purlee) Sherwood. She married Lester Burris on April 26, 1929, and he died December 18, 1993.

Surviving are two sons: Ralph E. Burris and Wife, Geneva, of Jeffersonville, IN, and Howard A. Burris and wife, Gerry, of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Norma L. Roberts and husband, Justin, of Charlestown, IN; eighteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Paul Burris in 1936; one brother, Walter Sherwood; and one sister, Anice Elliott.

She attended Indiana University and taught school at Burris School and in Daviess County. She was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ, Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association, and Farm Bureau.

Services for Gladys Burris will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 22nd, at the Mitchell Church of Christ with Bro. Ralph Burris officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-7:30 p.m. Sunday at Chastain Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Monday at the church.

Dorsett – Mary Magdalene "Mag" Dorsett of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday July 18, 2002, at Surrey Place in Bradenton. Born on January 19, 1916, in Lawrenceport, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas S. and Cassie Mae (Todd) Enochs. She married William Harrison "Harry" Dorsett on September 1, 1934, and he died November 5, 1990.

Surviving are one brother, Curtis Enochs of Bedford, IN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; five sisters: Blanche Hall, Bernice Allen, Beulah Vaught, Savannah Reynolds, and Roberta Kelly; four brothers: Andrew, Lester, Thomas, and Burmal Enochs; and one nephews, Elbert Enochs, who was reared in her home.

She was a former employee of M. Fine & Sons and was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene, where she served many years as Sunday school teacher and custodian.'

Services for Mary Dorsett will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 22nd, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Mark Bechtel officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Chastain Funeral Home.

Bingham – Anna Mae Bingham of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on May 17, 1913, in Knox County, KY, she was the daughter of John and Nancy (Mills) Gambrel. She married Eugene Bingham on November 4, 1933, and he died on April 25, 1980.

Surviving are one daughter, Geraldine Jones of Bedford, IN; four sons: Kenneth Binham of Bedford, IN, Dennis Bingham of Mitchell, IN, Ernest Binham of Dayton, OH, and Clifford Bingham of Ft. Wayne, IN; twenty-four grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter in infancy; one granddaughter, four brothers, and two sisters.

She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Christian Center in Salem, IN.

Services for Anna Bingham will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 18th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastors Claude Lawson, George Johnson, and Tim Voorhies officiating. Combs – Billy Joe Combs of Pensacola, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, and North Carolina, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Born on December 15, 1946, in West Jefferson, NC, he was the son of Joe and Rosie Mae (Howell) Combs.

Surviving are his fiance, Maxine Stigall of Pensacola, FL; two daughters, Wendy Fayette of Nelsonville, OH, and Cindy Raneo of Stewart, OH; two sons, Billy Joe Combs, Jr. and Lucas Matthew Combs, both of Pensacola, FL; one brother, Ronnie Combs of Mitchell, IN; three grandchildren: Jacob and Joshua McLeod and Brandon Raneo; and three nieces, Veronica, Rhonda, and Sandra Combs. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He retired from the U.S. Army, where he had served as a member of the Green Berets and was a paratrooper during the Viet Nam Conflict. He was a former employee of Hubler Chevrolet in Bedford and a former member of JayCees. He was of Baptist faith.

There will be graveside services for Billy Combs at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 18th, at Cresthven Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by members of American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from noon until 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Hopkins – Judy A. Hopkins of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on February 24, 1959, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Clyde and Nancy (Terrell) Jolley. She married Randy G. Hopkins on August 1, 1980, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one son, Eric Hopkins of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Andrea Hopkins of Bedford, IN; her mother, Nancy Jolley of Mitchell, IN, one brother, Jeff Jolley of Mitchell, IN; and one sister, Anita Thomas of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by her father.

She was a 1977 graduate of Mitchell High School and a member of Crossroads Community Church.

Pavey – Nellie Pavey of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Mitchell Manor. Born on October 20, 1909, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Alva and Clara (Little) Hughes. She married Carl Leonard Pavey on April 4, 1929, and he died May 21, 1996.

Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Sue Grubb of Bedford, IN; three grandsons: Jerry Pavey, Carl Grubb, and John Grubb; four sisters-in-law: Mary Lake of Mitchell, IN, Maxine Sampson of Williams, IN, Eula Pavey of Bedford, IN, and Leona Pavey of Conroe, TX; and one brother-in-law, Wesley Pavey of Conroe, TX. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

She was a a retired owner and operator of a real estate agency in Bedford and was a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church.

Hirscher – Wayne R. Hirscher of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on November 9, 1920, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of George L. and Maxine (Fields) Hirscher. He married Dorothy Rubis on August 19, 1944, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Ann and Michael Thrasher of Bloomington, IN, and Lee Jones, a worker and friend for 30 years. He was preceded in death by one brother, Glen J. Hirscher and twin sisters who died in infancy.

A florist for over 50 years, he was the owner of Hirscher Flower Shop in Bedford and the Flower Bowl in Bloomington and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a life member of the Bedford Elks Lodge, AARP, and Indiana Florist Association.

Services for Wayne Hirscher will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Bob Dailey officiating. Overstreet – Lorene Overstreet of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at her residence. Born on March 14, 1928, in Butler County, KY, she was the daughter of George Washington and Rose Myrtle (Brooks) Phelps. She married Buford !. Overstreet on September 2, 1946, in Kentucky, and he died on May 4, 1994.

Surviving are two sons, Douglas Overstreet and Mike Overstreet, both of Bedford, IN; three daughters, Betty Louise Hollowell of Bedford, IN, Lillian Rose Turner of Hyden, KY, and Kathy Lucille Simler of Seymour, IN; two sisters, Edrie Dungan of Kentucky and Opal Scherer of Illinois; three brothers: Troy, Jim, and O.C. Phelps, all of Georgetown, IN; twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, five grandchildren, one brother, and one sister.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Hayes – Norma M. Hayes of Bedford, IN, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 7, 1934. She married Tommy D. Hayes and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Debra Henderson of Bedford, IN, and one half-sister, Sharon Bryson.

She was former owner and operator of a beauty shop.

Pinnick – Elsie I. Pinnick of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on May 9, 1914, in Heltonville, IN, she was the daughter of Walter and Trella (Kindred) Bowman. She married Trevor D. Pinnick on January 9, 1944, in Bedford, IN, and he died August 10, 1986.

Surviving are three sons: Thomas Pinnick and wife, Shirley, of Bedford, IN, Stephen Pinnick and wife, Terri, of Bedford, IN, and David Pinnick and wife, Becky, of Williams, IN; one daughter, Elizabeth Joy Neeley of Dateland, AZ; six grandchildren: Scott Pinnick and wife Lana, Brad Pinnick and wife Angye, J.D. Pinnick, Luke Pinnick, Katie and Kyle Pinnick; and five great-grandchildren: Britney, Tammy, Wesley, Kayla Pinnick, and Justin Bennet. She was preceded in death by her husband.

She was a homemaker, a 1932 graduate of Bedford High School, and a member of Hillcrest Christian Church.

Inman – Hazel Inman of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on May 9, 1904, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of John and Joan (Martin) Mitchell. She married Arthur H. Inman and he died in September 1978.

Surviving are one daughter, Eve Mae Slone of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Inman.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Owen – Ruby C. Owen of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at her residence. Born on December 29, 1915, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Crook and Rose (Hawk) Love. She married Russell E. Owen on May 23, 1935, and he died October 4, 1990.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. James (Liana) Skinner of Shelbyville, IN; one sons, Russell Owen, Jr. of Bedford, IN; one sister, Erma Bridwell of Greenfield, IN; two brothers, Floyd Love and Paul Love, both of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers: Cledus, Doyle, and Dale Love.

She was a homemaker and attended First Church of God.

Hess – Paula Ritchie Hess of Fort Wayne, IN, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana Fort Wayne. Born on December 27, 1931, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of O. C. and Emma (Worrell) Krutsinger. She married Jay Robert Ritchie on October 18, 1952, and he died December 2, 1968. She married John L. Hess on December 11, 1999, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband of Fort Wayne are two daughters, Debra Beeler and husband, Randy, of Mitchell, IN, and Judy Deckard and husband, Scott, of Indianapolis, IN; one son, Mike Ritchie of Indianapolis; two step-sons, John L. Hess and David Hess, both of Fort Wayne, IN; four grandchildren: Jason Beeler, Bryan Beeler, Logan Deckard, and Chelsea Ritchie; three step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Mayden and Audrey Hamm; and two brothers, Don Robert Krutsinger and Norman Dean Krutsinger.

She was retired from AT&T and was a 1949 graduate of Mitchell High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mitchell, Telephone Pioneers of America, and past president and member of Mitchell Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa.

Ryan – Clifford (Pockets) Ryan of Oolitic, IN, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on February 18, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of William and Delia (Silvers) Ryan. He married Jean Lantz on September 28, 1950, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Gaynel Diamond of Mitchell, IN, and Suzie (Lora) Schell of Bloomington, IN; two sons, Glen and Dennis Ryan, both of Oolitic, IN; four sisters: Dolly Dunlap of Oolitic, IN, Irene Mansee and Nancy Ryan, both of Indianapolis, and Maxine Kodrea of Kokomo, IN; three brothers: Chet Ryan of Alabama, Russell Ryan of Arizona, and Jimmy Ryan of Oolitic, IN; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a truck driver and a veteran of WW II, serving with the Air Corp. He was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Blackwell – Richard B. Blackwell of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Core Nursing Home. Bon on October 7, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Walter J. and Fannie M. (Horton) Blackwell. He married Nina Wray on December 7, 1935, and she died on May 29, 1984.

Surviving are four sons: Philip Blackwell of Bedford, IN, Jay Blackwell of Boonville, IN, Richard D. Blackwell and Donald Blackwell, both of Bedford, IN; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by five sisters, one brother, and one granddaughter.

He retired from Gm Powertrain. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and UAW #440.

Lozada – Julian Lozada, Jr. of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at his residence. Born on September 18, 1983, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Julian and Lisa (Damiani) Lozada, Sr.

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Victor and Lisa Arana, Sr. of Mitchell, IN; siblings, Kelly Lee Ann Lozada, Manuel Ramon Zepeda, Jose Ramon Zepeda, Richard Anthony Zepeda, Andrea Rose Arana, Victor Arana, Mr, and Alfredo Merce Arana, all of Mitchell, IN; two uncles, Ricky (Marcia) Vickers of Hardinsburg, IN, and Jose Damiani of Chicago, IL; and two aunts, Debbie (Glenn) Grimsley of Chicago, IL, and Linda (Luis) Pegan of French Lick, IN.

Heaton – Elbert H. Heaton of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on December 22, 1922, in Greene County, IN, he was the son of Harrison and Daisy (Hamlin) Heaton. He married Louise Sherlock on September 11, 1948, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Glenda Goen of Bedford, IN; three sons: Dennis and Tim Heaton, both of Bloomington, IN, and Brian Heaton of Bedford, IN; one sister, Ruby Vandeventer of Bloomfield, IN; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Olive Vandeventer, Goldie Michaels, and Mildred Showecker; and two brothers, Leroy and Delmer Heaton.

He worked for the Bloomington Limestone Company and retired from Indiana University. He attended the Community Church in East Oolitic.

Mathews – Vernon Glen Mathews of Pine Island New Smyrna Beach, FL, formerly of Lawrence County. IN, and Indianapolis, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in Florida. Born on April 14, 1923, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Delbert and Hazel Mathews. He married Mary Eilert in Indianapolis, IN, on June 29, 1946, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Robert Mathews of Charlotte, NC; one daughter, Rebecca Birdsell of Hesston, KS; two brothers, Roy C. Mathews of Converse, IN, and Leon Mathews of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Chester Mathews; and two sisters, Helen Holt and Eileen Jenkins.

He was a retired owner of Mathews Construction Company, Inc. of Indianapolis and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Louisville. He was a member of Servants' Quarters Fellowship New Smyrna Beach and Brookside Lodge 720 F&AM Indianapolis.

There will be graveside services for Vernon Mathews at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 8th, at White River Baptist Cemetery in Buddha, IN, with the Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Alexander – Ruth E. Alexander of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at her residence. Born on September 2, 1922, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Farris and Sarah (Dalton) Bolding. She married Ralph Alexander on July 22, 1945, and he died January 25, 1999.

Surviving are one son, Michael Alexander of Bedford, IN; one sister, Katherine James of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren: Mary Ann Muckerheide of Bloomington, IN, Laura Aylsworth of French Lick, IN, and Shannon Alexander of Bloomington, IN; and one great-grandson, Matthew Scott Muckerheide of Bloomington, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Chester Bolding and Ted Bolding; and two sisters, Elsie Dobkins and Lola Hancock.

She worked for M. Fine & Sons and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
