08/31/01 Doub – Naomi F. Doub of Bedford, IN, died Friday, August 31, 2001, at the Hospitality House. Born on September 22, 1921, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of Wesley and Amy (Wright) Roberts. She first married Bill Flinn and he died in 1962. She later married Buster Lee Doub and he died in 1991. Surviving are two step-daughters, Linda King of Huron, IN, and Marlene Goodson of St. Petersburg, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, four brothers and six sisters. She retired from GM Central Foundry after thirty years of employment. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, U.A.W. Local #440, and A.A.R.P. Services for Naomi Doub will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2nd, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Jon Lineback officiating. Spires – Gaylord E. Spires of Bedford, IN, died Friday, August 31, 2001, at his residence. Born on July 26, 1942, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ervin and Eva (Livingston) Spires. He married Carol Taylor on October 19, 1987, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Joshua Spires, at home, and Justin Spires; one daughter, Jennifer; two step-daughters, Sandy Weldon and Kim Jones, both of Bedford, IN; one step-son, Jason Wray of Bedford, IN; his mother, Eva of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Rick Spires and Robert Spires, both of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Mary Ann Graham of Bedford, IN, Junetta Goff of Mt. Gilead, OH, and Jewell Goldsberry of Mooresville, IN; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Donald Spires; and one sister, Joyce Lawsen. He was retired from CSX Railroad and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of American Legion Gillen Post #33, Eagles Lodge, and attended the Free Methodist Church. "Butch" Wray of Bedford, IN, died Friday, August 31, 2001, at his residence. Born on August 5, 1939, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Bernard and Lucille (Higgins) Wray. Surviving are one aunt, Gladys Foster of Indianapolis; two uncles, Foster Higgins of Indianapolis and James Wray of Bedford; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and later worked as a deliveryman for Buck Lemon Furniture. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the American Legion Gillen Post #33, the DAV, Paralyzed Veterans of American, 40&8 of the American Legion, and Serenity Club. Born on November 29, 1950, she was the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Collins) Seaunier. She married Jerry Sims on October 3, 1998, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one son, Phil Barlow of Bloomington, IN; one step-son, Ricky Sims of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Theresa Lacey of Mooresville, IN; her father, Joseph Seaunier of Yma, AZ; two sisters, Anita Granot of Eugene, OR, and Edna McCormick of Yuma, AZ; two grandchildren, Dominique Haggerty and Elijah VanHorn. She was preceded in death by her mother. She was an accountant and a restaurant owner in Heltonville. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. 08/28/01 Bundy – Dr. Roy Dale Bundy of Oak Ridge, TN, died Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at his residence. Born on February 13, 1936, in Bedford, In, he was the son of Ralph and Lois (Reynolds) Bundy. He married Lorraine Henderson on June 21, 1959, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Eric Andrew Bundy and wife Daisy of Clinton, TN; one daughter, Sandra Lynn Bundy Owens and husband Steve of Huntsville, AL; his father, Ralph Bundy of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother in October, 1995. He retired in 1994 from K-25/Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, where he was a chemical engineer, and worked for one year as a consultant for UT Battelle after his retirement. A 1954 graduate of Bedford High School, he earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a master's and doctorate from the University of Tennessee. He served with the U.S. Army in 1958-59 and for several years with the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Rathcamp Match Cover Society, and the Claxton Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for many years. Services for Roy Bundy will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1st, at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge with Mr. Tim Forlines officiating, and Mr. Mark Jernigan and Mr. Ralph Wilson III assisting. Born on August 23, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Max and Myrtle (Long) Holmes. He married Shirley Briner on October 31, 1952, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Terry Gene Holmes of Springville, IN; four daughters: Karen J. Beasley of Bedford, IN, Cathy L. George and Mrs. Charley (Rhonda) Bell, both of Springville, IN, and Mrs. Danny (Molly) Ratliff of Avoca, IN; one brother, Keith Claude Holmes of Springville, IN; three sisters: Gloria McArtor and Anna Marie Shelton, both of Springville, IN, and Florence Ashcraft of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and thirty-one nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald Sherman and Robert Wayne Holmes. He retired from NWSC Crane and was an elder of the Bethel Community Church. He was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Army and a member of the Solsberry Masonic Lodge F&AM. Masonic services will be conducted Friday evening. 08/27/01 Drehobl – George F. Drehobl of Bedford, IN, died Monday, August 27, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 19, 1924, iin Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Vincent and Margarete (Allmansberger) Drehobl. He married Vera L. Jackson on January 9, 1954, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Donald Dean Drehobl of Seattle, WA, and George Francis Drehobl of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Georgetta Lynn Ledger of Addison, IL, and Valorie Bridgett Sarikas of Gaithersburg, MD; one sister, Mary East of Indianapolis; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Rudy, Ferdie, Bill, John, and Joe Drehobl; two sisters, Catherine and Grace Drehobl. He was an engineer, retiring from RCA in Bloomington after 35 years, a 1942 graduate of Bedford High School, a graduate of the Purdue University School of Engineering, and a veteran of W.W. II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a life-long member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a member of Knights of Columbus, where he had served as Grand Knight and attained the third and fourth degree, a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion, and had received a life-time award for blood donation from the American Red Cross. Baugh of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on March 30, 1925, in Terre Haute, IN, he was the son of Floy and Anna (Collier) Baugh. He married Betty M. Strunk on January 28, 1947, and she died February 19, 1999. Surviving are his long-time companion, Kathryn Henschen of Bedford, IN; two sons, Greg (Butch) Baugh of Mt. Vernon and Brian Baugh of Indianapolis; one daughter, Beth Smith of Bloomington, IN; one brother, Richard Baugh of Bedford, IN; two half-sisters, Jane Kendall of Oolitic, IN, and Becky Woodsmall of Bedford, IN; five grandchildren: Greg Baugh, Sarah Baugh, Stephanie Smith, Bailey Smith, and Lexie Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Ruth Troy; one half-sister, Linda Cummings; and one half-brother, Jack Elkins. He was a teacher in the North Lawrence School System, retiring in 1987 after 31 years and a director of the Bedford Boys Club, retiring in 1983 after 32 years. He was a member and past president of the Rotary Club, Indiana State Teachers Association, American Legion Gillen Post #33, Dive Christian Church and attended the First United Presbyterian Church. He was appointed grand marshal for the Heritage Festival Parade in 1999 and an honorary marshal in 2001. He was awarded "Father of the Year" in 1965. Burgess, Sr. of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, at his residence. Born on June 30, 1924, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of John Edmund and Lillie (Clouse) Burgess. He married Mary Stevens on June 21, 1947, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are three sons: Mark A. Burgess and John Burgess, Jr., both of Bedford, IN, and William R. Burgess, St. of Indianapolis; four daughters: Donia M. Crumb of Memphis, TN, Vinie May Flora of Indianapolis, Nancy H. Long of Oakland, TN, and Jeane L. Arnold of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Carl Burgess of Lima, OH, and Asa Burgess of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Luella Casey and Margaret Lowery, both of Bedford, IN; twenty grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Alice Dorene Burgess; one brother and sister in infancy; one brother, Robert Mark Burgess; and one grandson, William R. Burgess, Jr. He worked at Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis for twenty and one-half years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Friendly Bible Church (Bedford), UAW Chapter Local 1111 (Indianapolis), and was in the Merchant Marine during WW II. Roach of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 27, 1929, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Earl and Della (Lee) Roach. He married Lillie Mae Douglas on May 15, 1952, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Penny (McArter) Thomas of Green County, IN, and Kate Shirley of Bedford, IN; one son, Harry (Rick) Roach of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, including Danny, Jerry, Susan and Misty Garland who were raised in the home; six step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, one nephew, and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. He was a farmer in Lawrence County and a member of Faith Baptist Church. Wells of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Born on February 10, 1969, iin Iroquois County, IL, she was the daughter of Paul and Ilene (Tuggle) Christensen. She married Joe Wells on August 11, 1990, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one son, Brandon, at home; one daughter, Katelyn, at home; her parents, Paul and Ilene Christensen; three brothers: Doug Christensen of Bedford, IN, Paul Christensen of Whiteland, IN, and Curt Christensen of Oklahoma; two sisters, Debbie Feathers and Kathy Coursey, both of Bedford, IN; three nieces and five nephews. She was preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents. A member of the Bedford Baptist Temple, she worked with the youth group. She was a 1987 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School and graduated from Ivy Tech in 1989 with a degree in office management. She was listed in the American Book of Who's Who and was employed as a UPC Clerk for Walmart in Bedford. Born on February 14, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Emery and Martha Lou (Tumey) Stewart. He married Margaret V. Davis on May 3, 1941, and she died January 22, 2001. Surviving are one son, Tim Stewart of Bedford, IN; one sister, Jeanette Franklin of Ft. Meyers, FL; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; three sisters, Floe Owens, Thelma Diehl, and Mary Stewart (in infancy); and five brothers: Delbert (Deb) Stewart, Clifford Stewart, Gordon Stewart, and Raymond and Daniel Stewart, both in infancy) He was a retired electrician, having worked at Owens Electric in Bloomington, IN. Cobb of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, August 23, 2001, at Hospitality House. Born on January 6, 1920, in Oklahoma, he was the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Sasser) Cobb. He married Lois Lee on January 18, 1945, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one brother, Ralph Cobb of Oolitic, IN; one sister, Iris Jean Childers of Arkansas; five nephews, and two nieces. He was retired from Crane. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. 08/22/01 Rainbolt – Ivan Dale Rainbolt of Oolitic, IN, formerly of Springville, IN, died Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at his residence. Born on October 20, 1938, in Greene County, IN, he was the son of Ivan and Zelma (Godsey) Rainbolt. He married Connie Vest on June 16, 1967, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Gary Rainbolt of Oolitic, IN and Steven Rainbolt, stationed in Camp Lejuene, NC; one daughter, Karen Ryan of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Robert Rainbolt of Kenton, OH, and James Rainbolt of Bloomington, IN; two grandson, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a farmer and a factory worker. He was a member of Popcorn Christian Church, Sons of the American Revolution, Perry Twp. He married Helen Bundy on June 30, 1930, and she died September 23, 1992. Surviving are one daughter, Doris Gilstrap of Mitchell, IN; two sons, Robert G. Wagner of Bedford, IN, and Jerry Wagner of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, Alma Terrell and Audrey Terrell, both of Bedford, IN; nine grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two brother, Arza and Arkanas Wagner. He retired from Ralph Rogers and farming. He was of Pentecostal faith. Born on April 22, 1920, in Celina, TN, she was the daughter of Richard and Dona (Gray) Key. She married William Omer Craig on July 19, 1944, and he preceded her in death in 1986. Surviving are four sons: Gary O. Craig of Bedford, IN, Roy L. Craig of Heltonville, IN, William D. Craig and James Ambrose Craig, both of Bloomington, IN; five daughters: Marie Baker Deckard of Mitchell, IN, Donna Scheffel of Columbus, IN, Janet Hall of Springville, IN, Reva Steele of Spencer, IN, and Eva Smith of Worthington, IN; one sister, Jackie Fields of Covington, IN; eighteen grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Leo Key; two sisters, Irene Conley and Dorothy Howard; one son, Kevin Craig; and one daughter, Teresa Craig. She retired from Stone City Products and Montgomery Ward Store in Bedford and Sarkes-Tarzian in Bloomington. She was a member of Donica Church of God and a volunteer at Bedford Nursing Home where she received "Volunteer of the Year" award. Born on September 15, 1915, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Dodd and Addie (Wilson) Edington. He married Eldred Fay Roberts in November 1937, and she died on July 18, 2000. Surviving are one son, Dr. Dodd Edington and his wife, Kathy, of Bedford, IN; two granddaughters, Amanda and Kimberly; one grandson, Vance; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, Kimberly Gail Edington; four brothers: Charlie, Sam, Glenn and Billy; and two sisters, Mildred and Virginia. He was a retired businessman and a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Gillen Post #33, Bedford Elks Lodge #826, Bedford Lodge #14 F&AM, Eagles Lodge and the V.F.W. Post of Oolitic. Howell of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on April 4, 1923, in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Roy A. and Irene (Dodson) Howell. He married Betty Dorsett Edwards on October 1, 1967, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Gary D. Howell of Bedford, IN; Judy Ellis and David Miller, both of Mitchell, IN, who were raised in the home; one granddaughter; one brother, Ralph Howell of St. Petersburg, FL; one sister, Beverly Thompson of Pinellas Park, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jane. He retired as an officer from the Bedford City Police Department and was a clerk and bailiff for Bedford City Court, a bailiff for Lawrence County Superior Court, and was a security officer for the Jockey Club in Las Vegas, NV. He was a veteran of WW II, serving with the Army Signal Corps. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the American Legion Gillen Post #33. She married Marvin Turpen on February 15, 1942, and he died on February 14, 1999. Surviving are one son, Dan Turpen and his wife, Joyce, of Ellettsville, IN; one daughter, Jenny Gay Stultz and her husband, Robert, of Bedford, IN; one grandson, Clinton Turpen of Ellettsville, IN; four step-grandchildren: Tina Clark and Jeffrey Johnson, both of Bloomington, IN, Lisa Mair of Linton, IN, and Laurie Zimmerman of Kettering, OH; two sisters, Lois Kinser of Heltonville, IN, and Roberta Hayse of Bloomington, IN; one nephew, Floyd R. Surviving are three daughters: Kelley McSoley and Shannon McSoley, both of Bedford, IN, and Amy York of Ellettsville, IN; two sisters, Mary Carmichael of Indianapolis and Eva Duncan of Bedford, IN; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Joseph McSoley, Edward McSoley, and Vollie McSoley. He retired from the Bedford Fire Department in 1988, had been an emergency medical technician for Dunn Memorial Ambulance, and had worked for the Bedford Parks Department and the mayor's office. "Ernie" Walker of Campbellsburg, IN, formerly of Fort Wayne, IN, died Friday, August 17, 2001, at Washington County Memorial Hospital. Born on September 17, 1907, in LaRose, IL, he was the son of Charles and Margaret (Goodson) Walker. He married Leona Chastain on April 24, 1932, and she survives. Surviving with his wife of Campbellsburg are one daughter, Karen Sue Walker of Fort Wayne, IN; one son, Kevin Gene Walker of Lubbock, TX; and two grandchildren: Blaine Marmon Walker of Austin, TX, and Tristan Andrew Walker of Boerne, TX. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara and Minnie; and two brothers, William and Homer. He retired in 1971 after a total of forty years in the teaching profession, including Whitestown, IN, and Celina, OH, and thirty-four years of service as a teacher and head of the business department at South Side High School in Fort Wayne, IN. After retiring he taught four years at Indiana University-Fort Wayne. He was a 1938 graduate of Danville High School, a 1931 graduate of Central Normal College, and received a MBA from Indiana University. A Lieutenant in the Navy in World War II, he served as a communication officer on Admiral Chester Nimitz' Pearl Harbor Staff. Gov. Evan Bayh recognized him as a Distinguished Hoosier in 1992. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Rob Morris Masonic Lodge #282 F&AM in Campbellsburg, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, past Worshipful Master of Waynedale Masonic Lodge-Fort Wayne, the first Worthy Patron of Waynedale Chapter #600 Order of Easter Star in Fort Wayne, past president of the Fort Wayne Chapter of the Administrative Management Society, Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Education Fraternity-Fort Wayne Chapter, and past president of the Toastmaster's Club. Lee, whom she married on December 19, 1953, at Trinity Methodist Church in Louisville, KY. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Leonardson and Mrs. Glen (Lisa Jayne) Ellis, both of Ft. Wainwright, Alaska; one cousin, Mrs. Edna Childers of Ashland, KY, who was raised by Joan's mother; one sister-in-law, Frances L. Asbell of Bedford, IN; one brother-in-law, William Spencer Lee and his wife, Jane, of Nampa, ID; four grandchildren: Nicholas Lee and Erin Alexis Leonardson of Boise, ID, and Kristina Elizabeth and Thomas Jay Ellis of Ft. Wainwright, Alaska; two nieces, one nephew, a second cousin who was her caregiver, Mrs. Betty Thomas of Pinehurst, NC, and her former husband, Thomas J. Lee of Hendersonville, NC. She earned a nursing degree in August, 1948, and worked as an obstetrical nurse in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, and Idaho before retiring in 1977. Born on October 13, 1946, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Charles G. and Dorothy I. (Lawhead) Ragsdale. He married Carolyn Jean on April 22, 1978, and she survives. He was a 50+ year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, past president of local IBEW, Bay Street Baptist Church in Eustis, FL, Gideon International, former Mason, and attended the Free Methodist Church in Bedford.
