Allen – Harry S. Allen of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, January 30, 1999, at the Mitchell Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on March 18, 1912, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Frank and Mariah (Moffatt) Allen. He married Anna Hall, and she preceded him in death. He married Florence P. Hankins on April 4, 1986, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Kenneth Allen of Mitchell, IN, Lester Frankie Allen of Clarksville, IN, and Richard Allen of Florida; four daughters: Pauline Cook of Mitchell, IN, Carolyn Hall of Orleans, IN, Juanita Lebrun of Louisville, KY, and Mary Morris of Bloomfield; three brothers: Arthur and Lester Allen, both of Mitchell, IN, and Homer Allen of Peru, IN; three sisters: Lola Mae Quinn of Mitchell, IN, Faustina Worsham of Florida, and Jane Evans of Indianapolis; twenty grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, and three sisters.
He retired from Carpenter Body Works and was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.
Services for Harry Allen will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 3rd, at Haverly Mortuary with the Rev. Mark Bechtel officiating. Burial will follow in Knott Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Simmerman – Eva Maxine Simmerman of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 30, 1999, at the Bedford Hospitality House. Born on October 24, 1925, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of George and Arlie (Payton) Rainey. She married James Eldridge Simmerman on June 30, 1945, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Roe Gene Simmerman of Mitchell, IN; two grandchildren, and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Leland Rainey; one sister, Lorene Simmerman; two nephews, and one niece.
She had worked at Trav-Lers Radio Corp, retiring from United Plastics in Orange and Jackson counties and had operated the Simmerman Shanty Shed. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Services for Eva Simmerman will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Mike Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Clark – Vivian Clark of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 29, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on October 4, 1932, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Labon and Leona Grace (Taylor) Kern. She married Joseph R. Clark, and he survives.
Also surviving are are two daughters, Pamela Owens of Bloomington, IN, and Julie Clark of Virginia; two sons, Joseph A. Clark of Bedford, IN, and Terry R. Clark of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Bernice Chaney of Bedford, IN, and Linda Kay Bickel of Indianapolis; one brother, Labon Kern, Jr. of Mitchell, IN; eleven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Louise Turner, in 1966.
She had worked in retail sales and was a homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge auxiliaries.
Services for Vivian Clark will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Merla Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Priddy – Shelby Hazel Priddy died shortly after birth Friday, January 29, 1999, at Bloomington Hospital. She was the infant daughter of Kirby and Deana Priddy of Bedford, IN.
Surviving with the parents are one sister, Madison Priddy, at home; the paternal grandparents, Kirby N. and Gayle Priddy of Bedford, IN; the paternal great-grandmother, Lois Chenault of Oolitic; the maternal grandparents, David and Wanda Fountain of Fayetteville, the maternal great-grandmother, Enid Fountain of Bedford, IN; one uncle and one aunt. She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandfather, Dewey Chenault; her paternal great-grandparents, Charlie and Thelma Priddy; her maternal great-grandparents, Ear and Hazel Parker; and her maternal great-grandfather, Wayne Fountain.
There will be graveside services for Shelby Priddy at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3rd, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Johnny Johnson officiating. The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no service or visitation at the mortuary.

Hawkins – Pauline Hawkins of Springville, TN, formerly of Lawrence County, IN, died Thursday, January 28, 1999, at the home of her daughter. Born on April 11, 1907, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Hudgin) Butler. She married Paul Hawkins, and he died October 19, 1955.
Surviving are one son, Robert Hawkins of Bedford, IN; three daughters: Jean Webber of Florida, Joyce Bowles of Springfield, TN, and Cathy Patten of Bedford, IN; one sister, Dorothy Hudson of Bloomington, IN; fourteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Jenkins; one son, Greg Hawkins; and one brother.
She was a homemaker.

Panza – Helen V. Panza of Bedford, IN, died Thursday January 28, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on November 16, 1914, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Bert and Tessie (Bailey) Propes.
Surviving are one brother, Arlie O. Propes of Lakeland, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
She was a homemaker.

Crane – Benjamin Franklin Crane of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 27, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 19, 1921, in Clay City, IN, he was the son of James and Malinda (Bough) Crane. He first married Mildred Louise Wray, and she died in 1984. He married Kathryn Ray in 1986, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters,Caroline Litkenhous and Melinda Underwood, both of Bedford, IN; three sons: Merle Crane of Bedford, IN, Ben Crane Jr. and Lowell Crane, both of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Louis Crane of Demotte, IN, and Doyle Crane of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Evelyn Craig of Depew, OK, Rosemary Williams of Tunnelton, IN, and Samantha Perkins of Mitchell, IN; twelve grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Don Crane, and one brother, Kenneth Crane.
He retired as a mechanic after thirty-one years at Jenkins Motor Shop. He was an Army veteran of World War II and attended the Englewood Baptist Church.

Pridemore – Homer Pridemore of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, January 27th, 1999, at the Bloomington Hospital. Boen on February 25, 1925, in Huron, IN, he was the sn of Thomas A. and Pearl (Pearson) Pridemore.
Surviving are one brother, Ernest Pridemore of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Deloris Cannon of Shoals, IN, Alleen Recker of Mitchell, IN, and Lou Bush of Orleans, IN; nine nieces and eight nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Linza and Glenn Pridemore; and one sister, Lucille Pridemore.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Little Beaver Destroyer Squadron. He retired from the B&O Railroad in St. Louis and was a member of the Liberty Christian Church in Orleans.
Services for Home Pridemore will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 30th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Brothers David R. Conley and Donald E. Conley officiating. Chaney – Carl E. (Skip) Chaney of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, January 26, 1999, at his residence. Born on October 5, 1944, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Carl and Pauline (Holbert) Chaney. He married Susan Hawkins, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Joe Chaney of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Rhonna Roberts of Bedford, IN, and Dianna Witte of Indianapolis, IN; his mother; one sister, Vicky Thompson of Bedford, IN; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
He was a tool and die maker at G. M. Powertrain and was a member of the Central Church of Christ and UAW, Local 440.

Peterson – Vivian Marie Peterson of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 26, 1999, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on February 14, 1917, in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of Walter and Inez (Kinder) Williams She married J. Robert Peterson on May 30, 1936, and he died December 18, 1983.
Surviving are one son, Larry Peterson of Lake Zurich, IL; one daughter, Emily Levitt of Middletown, CT; two sisters, Marjorie Nickas of Bloomington, IN, and Phyllis Drummond of Florida; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, George Williams and Jimmy Williams (in infancy).
She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she was a member of the church choir for twenty years, and the Altar Society. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and the St. Vincent Thrift Store and a member of the Omega Nu Tau Sorority.
Services for Vivian Peterson will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 29th, at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Bernie Cox and Sister Joan Luerman officiating. Reynolds – Lena L. Reynolds of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 26, 1999, at the Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on March 29, 1922, in Kent County, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of Frederick and Nancy Jane (Newberry) Jones. She married Benjamin F. Reynolds St., and he died in 1958.
Surviving are one daughter, Miriam E. King of Bedford, IN; two sons, Robert P. Reynolds of Spencer, IN, and Roger A. Reynolds of Sandown, N.H.; two sisters, Clova Woodley of Bangor, MI, and Clara Stevens of LaGrange, IN; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Loretta Douglas and one in infancy; four sisters, three brothers, and one grandchild.
She had been a manager of the old Lindley Hotel in Mitchell and was a member of the Mundell Christian Church.

Alexander – Ralph B. Alexander of Bedford, IN, died Monday, January 25, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on February 12, 1924, in Rydel, GA, he was the son of Walter A. and Mamie (West) Alexander. He married Ruth Bolding on July 22, 1945, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Michael Alexander of Bedford, IN; one sister, Thelma Terhune of Rome, GA; three granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Force. In 1986 he retired from General Motors with thirty five and one half years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a friend of the First Presbyterian Church.

Peters – Jewel O. Peters of Bedford, IN, formerly of Medora, IN, died Monday, January 25, 1999, at Bedford Nursing Home. Born on December 29, 1911, in Sparksville, IN, she was the daughter of Mallie and Goldie (Tryon) Hunsucker. She married Morris A. Peters on December 5, 1943, and he died June 26, 1984.
Surviving are four sons: Don Peters and Max Peters, both of Springville, IN, Jess Gregory Peters of Indianapolis, IN, and Joseph Peters of Bedford, IN; one sister, Oweettah Bevers of Zephyrhills, FL; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Merle and Doyle Hunsucker.
She was the owner and bookkeeper of Peters Accounting Service and attended Faith Mission Church.

Sherwood – Ila Sherwood of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, January 25, 1999, at her residence. Born on July 3, 1923, in Francisville, IN, she was the daughter of Elmer and Fern (Grafton) Reish. She married Hollace D. Sherwood on November 23, 1945, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert D. Sherwood of Nashville, TN; two daughters, Susan J. Crawford of Pocahontas, IL, and Elizabeth J. Miller of Dayton, OH; one sister, Maru Porter of Rockford, IL; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a retired school teacher in Mitchell and was a member of the Bryantsville Church of Christ.

Jackson – Ruth E. (Pat) Jackson of Oolitic, IN, died Sunday, January 24, 1999, at her residence. Born on June, 3, 1936, in Carterville, IL, she was the daughter of Cleve and Verna (Barger) Phemister. She married Herbert Jackson in 1984, and he died in 1997.
Surviving are one son, Ron Johnson of Bedford, IN; four sisters: Myrthine Heckman and Marla Devaney, both of South Carolina, Helen Woodward of Bedford, IN, and Jacquline Eaves of Texas; one brother, Larry Phemister of Oolitic, IN; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and three brothers.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles Lodge #654 in Bedford.

O'Neal – Zachary Dale O'Neal of Springville, IN, died Sunday, January 24, 1999, in a mobile home fire. Born on February 1, 1995, he was the son of Robert and and Allayna (Pickett) O'Neal.
Surviving are the mother of Springville, IN; the father of Ohio; and the maternal grandmother, Vada Pickett of Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Allen Dale Pickett.

Born on April 22, 1996, he was the son of Robert and and Allayna (Pickett) O'Neal.
Surviving are the mother of Springville, IN; the father of Ohio; and the maternal grandmother, Vada Pickett of Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Allen Dale Pickett.

Smith – Verna M. Smith of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, January 24, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born in Greene County, IN, she was the daughter of George and Minnie E. (Fitch) Bateman. She married Robert Dale Smith on April 21, 1952, and he died December 8, 1977.
Surviving are one son, Harry L. Lehman of Linton, IN, two grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Letha White and Edith Ingle.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge, the VFW in Mitchell, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, and the White River Humane Society.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27th, at Green Hill Cemetery. The services will be under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary. There will be no calling hours at the mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the White River Humane Society.

Haskett – Cordia Haskett of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 23, 1999, at Westview Manor Nursing Home. Born on November 15, 1911, in Albany, KY, she was the daughter of Felix A. and Nettie Cole Stailey. She married John R. Hatfield and he died in 1978. She married Robert Haskett, and he died in 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Jim and John Hatfield, both of Heltonville, IN; one daughter, Patty Bezy of Washington, IN; two step-daughters, Lola Lewis and Darlene, both of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Taylor; one sister, Dorothy; and one brother, Charlie Stailey.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Oolitic Pentecostal Church.

Roy – William Windsor Roy of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 23, 1999, at Westview Nursing Center. Born on August 13, 1918, in Licking, MO, he was the son of C. William and Beulah (Windsor) Roy. He married Marjery Ailen Lester on August 7, 1948, and she died February 7, 1992.
Surviving are one son, William R. Roy of Urbana, IL, and one grandson. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Wayne, Roy, and one sister, Eleanor Roy Darby.
A World War II Air Force veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater. In 1949 he received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the General Motors Institute and subsequently worked for General Motors in St. Louis, Cleveland, Kansas City, MO, and Bedford, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, and was a committee member and Scoutmaster ex officio of Troop 31 of the Boy Scouts of America.
Services for William Roy will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Braden officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, Bedford. Briscoe – Diana C. Briscoe of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, January 22, 1999, at her residence. Born on July 29, 1947, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James "Ty" and Margaret (Pruett) Dunbar. She married Dennis Briscoe on June 25, 1967, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Brack Briscoe of Mitchell, IN, and Brett Briscoe of Newton, KS; her mother, Margaret Wilfong of Mitchell, IN; her maternal grandmother, Ruby T. Pruett of Huron, IN; three brothers, Dana Dunbar, Denny Dunbar and Dwight Dunbar, all of Mitchell, IN; and one sister, Dawn Duncan of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by her father.
For the past twenty years she had been the manager of the Bedford office of Planned Parenthood of Southern Indiana. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was an inactive member of Gamma Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa sorority.
Services for Diana Briscoe will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 25th, at the First Baptist Church with the Revs. Raymond Bunn and Robert Kirkman officiating. The eulogy will be given by the Rev. Dwight Dunbar. Burial will follow in the Bonds Chapel Cemetery. Hobson – Florence Hobson of Cincinnati, OH, died Friday, January 22, 1999, at Maple Knoll Village in Cincinnati. Born on November 12, 1908, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Hugh Alonzo and Florence (Brazil) Todd. She married Winton Lee Hobson, and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, David Lee Hobson of Springfield, OH; two daughters, Martha Joyce Lampe of Dayton, OH, and Susan Hoerner of Cincinnati, OH; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters.
She was a graduate of Heltonville High School and received a teaching certificate from Hanover College in 1927. She received a B.A. degree from Miami University (OH) in 1957. She taught elementary school for more than twenty years in Reading, OH.
There will be a memorial service for Florence Hobson at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Maple Knoll Village Chapel. Burial will be Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Lawrence County, IN. The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Knoll Fund.
Ridge – Norma Ridge of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 22, 1999, in Fort Myers. Born on April 15, 1922, in Linton, IN, she was the daughter of Leslie "Babe" and Pansy (South) Dover.
Surviving are one sister, Billie Ann Lewin, and one nephew, Larry Sallee, both of Fort Myers, FL. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lee Dover.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Lodge in Bedford.

Sanders – Cynthia Sanders of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 22, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 18, 1915, in Jackson County, IN, she was the daughter of Jacob and Nellie (Hoopengarner) Hobson. She married Donald Sanders on October 3, 1942, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Ralph Sanders of Coral Springs, FL; one sister, Lucille Baker of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Tincher.
She was a homemaker.

Chastain – Rebecca D. Chastain of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, January 21, 1999, at her residence. Born on September 25, 1947, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Marian Charles and Anna Frances (Huffines) Tomlinson. She married Larry D. Chastain on August 30, 1969, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Matthew David and Christopher Dean Chastain, both of Mitchell, IN; her mother and step-father, Anna Frances and Donald Dickey of Farmersburg; one sister, Sonja LaNetta of Sullivan, IN; one half-sister, Sandra Kay Denton of Washington; one half-brother, Lance Leonard Tomlinson of Louisiana; one step-sister, Pamela Kay Irvin of Merom, IN; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Woodville Baptist Church.

Martin – William M. "Sid" Martin of Oolitic, IN, died Wednesday, January 20, 1999, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 4, 1919, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William and Lula (Allen) Martin. He married Doris Parker on August 31, 1940, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Rose Ellen Gregory, Lawrence County; three sisters: Mary Ticen, Ruth Williams, and Luella Gardner, all of Monroe County; two brothers: Robert Martin, Lawrence County, and Raymond Martin, Monroe County; four grandchildren, including one granddaughter, Lisa Ramsey Dalton, who was raised in the home; and six great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Linda Ramsey, three sisters, and two brothers.
He retired after working for 45 years at Black, Carmichael & Klein in Bedford. He was of the Methodist faith.

Patton – Esther Patton of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 20, 1999, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was born on November 26, 1920, in Lawrence County. She first married Oliver Armstrong, then later married Emmett Patton, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Surviving are one granddaughter, Stephanie Armstrong, Bedford; and one grandson, Dave Armstrong, Bedford.

Austin – Dr. Richard Austin of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 19, 1999, at Hospitality House. Born on September 20, 1910, he was the son of Charles Kenneth and Nellie Yardley Austin. He married Margaret Elizabeth Bossmiere in August, 1936, and she died in August, 1984.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Austin Clar, of Poway, CA, one grandson, and two nieces. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Austin Sanders.
After earning his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, he practiced medicine from 1936 to 1986. He built and opened Sky Haven Airport which was located at 3600 Washington Avenue. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, the Bedford Elks Lodge, the Ideal Club, and the Indiana Medical Society.
There will be a private prayer service for Richard Austin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23rd, at Cresthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Sacco officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the White River Humane Society.
Craig – Cleophus Craig of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 19, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on July 24, 1916, he was the son of James F. and Luverna (Burks) Craig. He married Nellie C. Gilliand in 1944 in Hawesville, KY, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, James E. Craig, Bedford; two daughters: Nancy Terry, Bloomington, IN, and Wilma Donoghue, Bedford; one step-son, Joe McCluskey, Bedford; 3 sisters: Ruth Davis, Lecanto, FL, Mary Warren, Bedford, and Pauline Willis, Shaumburg, IL; two brothers: Amos Craig, Little Rock, AK, and Herschel Craig, South Bend, IN; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond and Everett Craig; one sister, Ethel Mae Craig; and one grandson, Billy McCluskey.
He was a powerhouse operator at Central Foundry GM, when he retired March 1, 1979. He was attended First Church of God, Bedford, and was a member of U.A.W. Local 440. He was also a member of the National Counsel of Senior Citizens and a Life Member of Boy Scouts of America.

Elkins – Chester L. Elkins of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 15, 1999, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on March 31, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Charles and Ethel (Thurman) Elkins. He married Mary Prow on June 25, 1948, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Preston and Greg Elkins, both of Bedford; one daughter, Vicky Woody, Bedford; one sister, Kathern Stultz, Plymouth, IN; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers: Carroll (Gene), Claude (Abe), John, Howard, and Cletus.
He was retired from Cummins Engine in Columbus, IN, and a member of the Diesel Workers Union of Cummins Engine. He was also a member of Dive Christian Church, and a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army.

Born on June 11, 1906, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Patterson and Katie Jane (Vest) Cornwell. She first married Ray Eicher and later Elda Johnson, and they both preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Pattie Tovey, Bedford; one son, Ellis Dean Eicher, Longmont, CO; one step-daughter: Norma Luallen, Bedford; one sister, Nellie Atkinson, Paoli, IN; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: Jack, Stanley, Delmont, Bruce, and Herber Cornwell; one sister, Stella Cornwell Pickens; and one step-son, Bill Johnson.
She was a mother and homemaker. She was also a member of First Baptist Church, Bedford.

Born on November 13, 1910, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Henry "Dutch" and Pheba (Barrett) Eker. She married Frank Van Duncan, Paul Koch, and Perry East, respectively. All three men preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Laura Lynn Keller, Huntingburg, IN; one son, Perry T. East, Bedford; three step-daughters: Mary Lou Hillenburg, Heltonville, Betty Short, Newark, OH, and Genny Steward, Franklin, OH; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Carol Duncan and Frankie Hilderbrand; one son, Richard Dale Duncan; one sister; three brothers; and two grandchildren.

Day – Lawrence M. "Chub" Day of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, January 11, 1999, at the home of his daughter. Born on July 12, 1911, in Leipsic, IN, he was the son of Fred and Grace (Wires) Day. He married Edith Taylor on March 27, 1937, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Norma Grimes of Mitchell, IN; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Doel Day; two sisters, Mary (Freddy) Akers and Helen Jolliff; and one grandson.
He organized and managed baseball teams from the 1930's to the 195-'s, and helped organize the Little League and Biddy Basketball in Mitchell. For thirteen years he worked at Reliance Manufacturing, and he owned and operated a grocery store from 1949-59. He was active in Democrat politics, serving two terms as Marion Township trustee, one term as Marion Township assessor and one term on the Mitchell City Council. He received many honors for his community service in Mitchell and Marion Township. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Lions Club.

Younger – Mary Ruth Younger of Bedford, IN, died Monday, January 11, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 18, 1928, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Mike and Nellie (Tanksley) Stipp. She married James Younger in 1960, and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1991.
Surviving are one son, Larry Eugene Younger, Bedford; 2 sisters: Betty Swango, Bedford, and Helen Gillum, Pasco, WA; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents also preceded her in death.
She had been a Chemistry and Home Economics teacher at Oolitic High School, and was a chemist for Eli Lilly, Indianapolis, IN, in the 1950's. She was a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, and Heltonville High School. She also attended Heltonville Methodist Church.

Watson – Wilma B. Watson of Bedford, IN, died Monday, January 11, 1999, at Hospitality House. Born on August 12, 1908, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Harry and Henrietta (Goss) Barnum. She married Charles Pete Watson on August 2, 1948, and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1991.
Surviving are two step-daughters: Patricia Line, Greenfield, IN, and Mary Highlen, Markle, IN; and three cousins: Harriett Hall and Betty Hamilton (also her caregivers), both of Medora, IN, and Alberta Matlock, Fort Wayne, IN. Her parents also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and former owner of Medora Junction Gas Station & Grocery. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Bedford, and the Bedford Elks Lodge #826 Ladies Auxiliary.

Latham – Frankie Latham, 68, of Grand Forks, N.D., died Friday at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born June 21, 1930, in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of Edna Reddenauer. He married Norma Weber, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Michael Latham of Bedford, IN, Frank Latham of Wisconsin, and Harlan Latham of North Dakota; one daughter, Shara Pigors of South Dakota; one sister Betty Goss of Illinois; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Greta Diehl; one brother, Sam Latham; and two sisters, Kate Hudson and Pauline Spencer.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion, Shriners, American Association of Retired People and Masonic Lodge in Okinawa.

Pierce – Mildred Pierce of Williams, IN, died Friday, January 8, 1999, at her residence. Born on October 14, 1923, in Coy, AR, she was the daughter of Luke A. and Cecil (Harris) Weaver. She first married Johnnie K. Miller, who died in 1943. She then married Oscar Ray Pierce, who died in 1996.
Surviving are three daughters: Cecelia Pierce of Wiloiams, IN, Maysel Turpen of Bedford, IN, and Natalie Wells of Mitchell, IN; her mother of Alexandria, IN; three sisters, Barbara Pollard of Miami, OK, Dora Marie Erickson and Daisy Smith, both of Daleville, IN; two brothers, Ernest Weaver and Claude Weaver, both of Alexandria, IN; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both husbands; one son, Sam Miller; one sister, and one brother.
She was retired from Delco-Remy in Anderson. She had worked as a caretaker of the Lawrence Cpounty 4-H Fairgrounds from 1982-1995. She was a member of the Hoosier Hills Doll Club and the Early Birds Homemaker Club.

Caswell – Tammi L. Caswell of Springville, IN, died Thursday, January 7, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on July 26, 1960, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Parsley) Girdley. She married Dale Caswell on June 26, 1976, and he survives.
Also surviving are her mother, three sons: Brian David, Travis Wade and Justin Coleman Caswell, at home; two daughters: Amy Lynn and Caitlyn Nicole Caswell, both at home; three sisters: Sherri Bartlett, Heltonville, Rita Kay, Bedford, and Marsha Girdley, Owensburg. She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Mark Girdley; and one sister, Brenda Girdley.
She was a homemaker and attended Oolitic Church of Christ. She was a volunteer worker at Eastern schools for nine years, and for three years was a Brownie Scout troop leader.

Rainey – James A. Rainey of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, January 7, 1999, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 6, 1930, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Roy and Perlina (Hall) Rainey. He married Edna Brown on August 28, 1957, and she survives.

He was a self-employed builder and a member of The Old Union Christian Church. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army.

Cummings – Hattie Mae Cummings of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on July 6, 1908, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Elza and Sallie (Walters) Bunch. She married Ray Cummings on December 24, 1923, and he died October 16, 1995.
Surviving are 1 son, Donald Cummings, Bedford; 2 daughters: Ruth Margaret Walls, Terre Haute, IN, and Judy Scruggs, Mesa, AZ; 5 brothers: Jack, Alvin, Jim, and Bob Bunch, all of Bedford, and Charles Bunch of Boaz, AL; twelve grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Carolyn Sue Cummings; 1 son, Roy Richard Cummings; and 1 great-grandchild.
She had been a homemaker and a member of Englewood Baptist Church.

Panza – William E. Panza of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on May 9, 1906, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Raphael and Sarah (Goldsby) Panza. He married Helen Propes in 1974, and she survives.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and his caregiver, Bernice Inman, Bedford.
He was a sheet metal worker with the Sheet Metal Workers Local 20. He was also a disabled American Veteran, serving in both World War I and World War II.

Miracle – Henry R. Miracle of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999, at Hospitality House, Bedford. Born on June 22, 1904, in Bell County, KY, he was the son of Elihu and Sarah Elizabeth (Miracle). He married Mayme Stamper on April 30, 1932, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, C.R. Miracle and Robert F. Miracle, both of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Phyllis Westfall of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother.
He was a retired farmer and a former owner of the Miracle Shop. He ws a member of the First Baptist Church.

Buckmaster – Lora June Buckmaster, Key West, FL, died Wednesday, June 6, 1999, in Key West, FL. Born in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude (Baker) Owens.
Surviving are one step-son, Jerry Buckmaster, Key West, FL; one sister-in-law, Thelma Owens, Columbus, IN; one nephew, Thomas Owens, Columbus, IN; one niece, Theresa Owens, Columbus, IN; and several cousins, including Lena Baker, Bedford;
She was an employee of Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company, Cincinnati, for forty years.

Owens – Bernard "Bill" Owens of Bedford, IN, died Monday, January 4, 1999, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on April 5, 1927, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Charles S. and Gladys (King) Owens. He married Juanita Louden on June 28, 1947, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Karen Hacker, Bloomington, and Nancy Battaglia, Bedford; two sisters: Joyce Meadows and Norma Thomas, both of Bedford; one brother, Charles O. Owens, Bedford; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was owner of O&S Paint Contracting, Bedford, for 30 years before retiring in 1993. He was also a member of First Baptist Church, Bedford, where he was a form trustee.

Born on November 17, 1928, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Henry C. and Lola (Martin) Fish. He married Ellen Bair and she preceded him in death. He married Frances Ross on March 12, 1983, and she survives.
Also surviving is one sister, Ruth Morrison of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry E. Fish, and one sister, Ruby Fish, who died in infancy.
He graduated from Bedford High School in 1938 and served as an Army medical technician primarily in the Philippines during World War II. He owned a public accounting office in Bedford in 1956, and seven years later he became comptroller at Roberts Brass in Mitchell for 15 years. In 1976 he joined the W. F. Meyers Company and retired as comptroller in 1987. In 1983 he began his own computer business, which he continued for a few years after retirement. He was a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Lawrence County Community Foundation Board and Endowment Committee, Bedford Elks, American Legion, LIFE, United Way of Lawrence County Board, and the North Lawrence Vocational Technical Center advisory board.
Services for Frank Fish will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 6th, at St. Vincent dePaul Church with the Rev. Bernard Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with graveside rites accorded by the American Legion. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home where the rosary will be said by the Knights of Columbus at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence County Community Foundation or to the Fund for St. Vincent School.

Flynn – Gary L. Flynn of Springville, IN, died Saturday, January 2, 1999, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on April 9, 1949, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of George and Vida Marie (Bridges) Flynn. He married Minnie Sue Childers, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Jennifer Todd of Bloomfield, IN; one son, Gary Lee Flynn of Bedford, IN; his mother of Springville, IN; two brothers, Lowell Flynn of Bedford, IN, and Anthony Flynn of Williams, IN; three sisters, Cherlyn Schneider of Youngstown, OH, Janice Banks and Gloria Phillips, both of Springville, IN; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father.
A Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a retired worker at Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center. He was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post 33 and the Living Word Church.
Services for Gary Flynn will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Revs. Cam Anderson and Jay Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Lowder Cemetery with military rites accorded by the American Legion. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Wright – Gordon Wright of Orinda, CA, died Friday, January 1, 1999, in California. Born on February 5, 1928, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Emmett and Ora (Hiatt) Wright. He married Marilyn Ellis of Mitchell in 1953, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Alan Wright of Martinez, CA, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, William G. Wright.
He was a Korean War Air Force veteran and was comptroller of Chevron Industries in San Francisco, CA, for thirty years. He was a member of the St. Monica's Catholic Church in Moraga, CA.
There will be a graveside service for Gordon Wright at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16th, at Ames Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Bernie Cox officiating. Haverly Mortuary is in charge of the local arrangements. There will be no visitation at the mortuary.
