NPR’s College Podcast Challenge now accepting submissions

Bloomington, Ind., October 20, 2023 — NPR is hosting its third annual College Podcast Challenge — open to students of all ages pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree, as well as those who have already graduated earlier in 2023. The winner will receive a grand prize scholarship of $5,000, and the top 10 finalists will each receive $500 prizes.

The College Podcast Challenge is open for entries until January 5, 2024.

Students can create a podcast on any topic and in various formats: an interview, narrative story, or even investigative reporting. The podcast cannot be longer than eight minutes. Longer entries will be disqualified.

Examples of previous podcast entries include what it’s like to live in an isolated dorm room, the history and legacy of a student mariachi band in Texas, and the joys of rediscovering one’s love of learning at age 65.

For information on how to create a podcast, visit NPR’s Sound Advice page, which includes tips on how to choose a topic, how to edit audio and use music, and even advice from NPR podcasters. More podcast creation resources are also available through NPR’s The Students’ Podcast and by listening to submissions from previous NPR College Podcast Challenge winners Miriam Colvin and Anya Steinberg.

Learn more about the contest and how to submit entries on NPR’s College Podcast Challenge website: npr.org/2023/10/06/1203603708/college-podcast-challenge-contest-npr-2023.
