Local 4-H Club Competes & Wins in New Albany

4-H Club Superior STEAM competed in the Area II 4-H Robotics Encounter

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, three youth members of the 4-H Club Superior STEAM competed in the Area II 4-H Robotics Encounter: Castle Crashers. The event was hosted by the Area II 4-H extension in New Albany, IN.

LEGO Education robotics software and hardware

Superior STEAM is a year long youth development program through the Lawrence County Purdue 4-H Extension Office. Their goal is to inspire and teach the next generation of scientists, artists, engineers, innovators, and leaders. The club offers a wide variety of activities to expose students of all ages to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) principles.

This event is hosted every year and has a new challenge that must be solved using LEGO Education robotics software and hardware. Teams had a choice between the EV3 system and the newer Spike system. The Castle Crashers challenge was all about clearing the field (a wooden board) of the foam castle pieces–the quickest, without penalties wins. Superior STEAM took three teams of one member to the event and came away with every team in the top five of their division–including 1st (Champion) and 2nd (Reserve Champion) place.
