Enough already!
Stop trashing Indiana
football.
Whether they play perfectly or pitifully at the Horseshoe is inconsequential to yours truly. With a win at Purdue in its season finale, IU belongs in college football’s exciting new playoff format.
Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers steamrolled their way to an impressive 11-1 mark. The idea of losing a game at Columbus is regrettable but hardly reflects the worthiness of advancement.
I am aware and woefully weary of the sarcastic sniping of SEC talking heads. Yes, the Southeastern Conference is arguably the strongest league, but neither Alabama nor Georgia are the dominant studs they have been in the past couple of seasons.
Two stumbles are not indicative of invincibility.
What is more aggravating is so little chatter about the most privileged team in the college realm, Notre Dame. Why are the experts ignoring the Irish’s qualifications?
I like Notre Dame now that Brian Kelly has departed. In fact, my father played a Rudy-like role in South Bend for one season when he was a young, aspiring athlete.
For those liking to forget, unheralded Northern Illinois knocked off the Irish AT Notre Dame earlier in the season. Since then, the Huskies have dropped five games. That’s right … five!
Losing to OSU is one thing. Falling to Northern Illinois at home is another.
Speculate that!
Would Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame generate more money than Indiana?
Yes. And, TV folks prefer that.
Should it be relevant?
No.
This is amateur sports?
Right?
That’s an issue for another day.
