Indiana Statehouse Update: Eric Koch, State Senator
Reliable, affordable electricity is fundamental to Indiana's economy. It is an issue that affects everyone from individual Hoosier households to the largest employers in our state.
Understanding the importance of energy sustainability, the Indiana General Assembly created the 21st Century Energy Policy Development Task Force in 2019 to explore and identify energy policy recommendations focused on affordability and reliability.
This week, the Senate passed House Bill 1007, which I cosponsored. It establishes the task force's blueprint for Indiana's energy industry to follow and provide reliable energy to Hoosiers for years to come.
HB 1007 would help ensure Indiana's utility companies aren't relying on out-of-state providers to produce the power their customers need to keep their lights on.
As technology advances, our state must ensure it can withstand the energy demand. Having a plan for our energy infrastructure will help Indiana become even more self-reliant and resilient, which is why I was happy to cosponsor HB 1007.
