Charles “Charlie” Mesarosh, age 77, of Hillsboro, went home to be with the Lord on Monday (Dec. 26).

He was born April 16, 1934, in Mitchell to the late Andrew and Dorothy Mesarosh.

Charlie was preceded in death by his sons, Jeffrey Mesarosh and Stanley “Monty” Mesarosh and several brothers.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Betty Mesarosh; children, Charles “Randy” and wife Sally, Rodney “Rocky,” Marcia “Marcy” and husband Jimi P., Barbette “Barbie” and husband Steve, Lisa and husband Michael M., and Terie Ford; numerous grand and great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lena, Florence and Lillian; 3 brothers, Walter, Albert and Henry; and many other relatives and great friends. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday (Jan. 2) at Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd,, Kettering, Ohio. The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Corda M. Williams, 80, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at her residence.

Born June 18, 1931, in Dunns, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Oscar Dempsey and Sadie (Underwood) Cooper.

She retired from Older Americans. Corda was a member of the Bride of Christ Fellowship and a marble collector.

Surviving: daughters, Sandra Butler and Debra Jones, both of Bloomington, and Lorrayne Burton and Karen Cassidy, both of Mitchell; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ruby Evans of Concord, Va.

Her parents; brother, Carl Cooper; and sister, Betty Schafer, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 30, at the Bride of Christ Fellowship with Bro. Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Kathryn Sallee

July 12, 1928 — Dec. 26, 2011

Kathryn Ingle Sallee, 83, of Bedford, died Monday at the Decatur Township Health and Rehab. Center in Indianapolis.

She was married to Jackie D. Sallee who preceded her in death. To this union a son was born, Gary Dale Sallee of Indianapolis and two blessed grandsons, Benjamin Sallee and Patrick Sallee both of Indianapolis. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Harold and Richard Ingle; and three sisters, Mrs. Clifford (Rowena) Flinn, Mrs. Harold (Lucille) Williams and Mrs. William (Mary Jane) Kirkman; and her parents.

Kathryn was Lawrence County’s first female paper carrier, starting in 1939. After graduation from Tunnelton High School, she was employed by Reliance Manufacturing Company for eight years. She later was employed by Philco for four years, then was employed by North Lawrence Community Schools for eight years.

She was employed by Bedford Medical Center where she retired on July 13, 1990 after 20 years of service. She was the Supervisor/Department Head of Central Supply at Bedford Medical Center from 1970-1990. She was certified with the International Association of Hospital Central Supply Managers. She was a member of the American Society of the American Central Supply Personnel and a member of the Hospital Christian Fellowship Association.

While at BMC, she was active in many committees, which included seven years on the American Red Cross Board. She was, at one time, Disaster Chairman for the Lawrence County Red Cross.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford and former member of the White River Baptist Church. While at White River Baptist Church, she sang in a Christian quartet for 27 years. Kathryn enjoyed working with the Pastor’s Helpers at the First Baptist Church, visiting the sick and elderly of the church.

She was a former member of the Lawrence County Art Association and the Bedford Little Theatre. She and her husband, Jackie worked 13 years with the Bedford North Lawrence Booster Club.

Celebration services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at the First Baptist Church in Bedford with the Rev. Dr. Kregg Burris officiating. Burial will follow in the White River Baptist Church Cemetery in Buddha.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Minnie V. Meece

Minnie Vonda Meece, 86, of Bedford, died at 11:45 a.m. on Monday at her residence.

Born Feb. 17, 1925 in Liberty, Ky., she was the daughter of Antony and Edna (Hardwick) Jones.

She married William Meece on May 4, 1966, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1995.

She worked at RCA in Bloomington for twenty-three years and retired in 1988. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Marcia Brotherton of Bedford, Lois Enochs (Mark Fish) of Bloomington, Katy Lewis of Bedford; two sons, R.L. Jewell (Kim) of Bedford, Wayne Jewell (Maraleta) of Bedford; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Judy Quattro of Georgia and Wilma Mayfield of Amhurst, Ohio; one half brother, Ferrell Jones of Georgia; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Irvin Jewell and Ronnie Jewell; one daughter, Jeri Morran; eight sisters; four brothers.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Maraleta Jewell and Melissa Newland officiating. Burial will be in Hanson Cemetery.

David L. Dodds

David Lynn Dodds, 72, of 1026 Lincoln Ave., Bedford, died at 3:55 p.m. on Sunday, at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis.

Born Feb. 4, 1939, in Bedford, he was the son of Richard H. and Mary Lois (Worrell) Dodds. He married Janet K. Hatfield in 1962 and she survives.

He retired from Cummins Engine in Columbus after 31 years. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard for nine years.

He was loving and generous to his wife and children. He enjoyed classic cars and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Janet, of Bedford; five children, Jerry Dodds and wife Beth, Dianna Voorhies and husband Dan, David L. Dodds and wife Shelley, Mary Elizabeth Dodds and Jennifer Dodds; a daughter-in-law, Cari; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren; and one sister, Deborah Blatz and husband Doug of North Manchester.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dennis Allen Dodds; and one brother, Dennis Lee Dodds.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Dan Voorhies officiating. Cremation will follow.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary.

William R. Kast

William R. Kast, 68, of Springville, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on December 18 at his residence.

Born April 24, 1943, in Watertown, N.Y., he was the son of William Henry and Anna Mae (Dingman) Kast. He married JoAnna M. (Joachimi) in Aurora, on Aug. 8, 1997.

William enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1961 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1967, after achieving the rank of Sergeant.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnna of Springville.

A memorial service and luncheon for William (Willy) R. Kast will be from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Friday in the Breakfast Room at Comfort Inn of Bedford with Chaplain Wendy Vanderzee officiating.

Walter I. Porter

Walter I. Porter, 77, passed away at 4:55 p.m. Monday at White River Lodge in Bedford.

Born May 18, 1934, in Harrison County, he was the son of Harry E. and Margaret Jessie (Ferber) Porter. He married Mary Alice Stone July 24, 1954, and she preceded him in death Feb. 11, 2010.

He retired from Regal-Beloit and was a member of Fishing Creek Chapel and attended Tulip Street Christian Church. Walter was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

Surviving are sons, Brian Keith (Nancy) Porter of Mitchell and Barry Wayne (Frances) Porter of Huron; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Porter of Mitchell; brothers, Virgil Porter of Salem, Leonard Porter of Mitchell and Harry Porter Jr. of Brownstown; sister, Mary Frances Clipp of Columbus; grandchildren, Lisha Porter, Benjamin K. Porter, Heather Porter and Nicholas J. Porter; and great-grandchildren, Amber Korval, Aly Porter, Briley Porter, Madlyn Harkness, and Abigail Brinkworth.

His parents; wife; sons, Michael I. Porter and Bradley D. Porter; brothers, Elmer Porter and Gerald Porter; and sisters, Marie Vaught, Agnes White and Beatrice Milligan, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceport Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Terence E. Arthur Jr., infant son of Terence and Chelsey (Rogers) Arthur of Mitchell, was stillborn at St. Vincent/Dunn Memorial Hospital on Sunday.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Courtney Arthur, Lauryn Arthur, and Sara Arthur; grandparents, Kara (stepgrandfather Jonathon) Conder of Mitchell, Terry Rogers of Bloomington, Jeanie (stepgrandfather James) Hancock of North Vernon, and Roger (stepgrandmother Renee) Arthur of Bedford; great-grandparents, Don and Linda Fowler of Bloomington and Rebecca Mitchell of Bloomington; great-grandparents, Roger (step-great-grandmother Carolyn) Arthur of Bloomfield, Carol and (step-great-grandfather Tracy) Ferguson of Switz City and Jerry Poole of Bedford; and great-great-grandparents, Dema Jonas of Bloomington, Maxine Groomer of Solsberry and Nora Arthur of Stanford.

Terence was preceded in death by his infant sister, Mary Margaret Arthur and great-grandmother Gloria Wells.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Little Union Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Hopkins officiating.

Helen Thompson

Helen E. Thompson, 90, Martinsville, passed away at 1:09 a.m. on Monday at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.

She was born on Sunday, Oct. 16, 1921, in Oolitic, to the late Grover Cleveland and Mabel Claire (Thomas) Anderson. On June 14, 1941, she married Raymond Thompson and he survives.

Helen was co-owner of the State Farm Insurance Agency in Martinsville with her husband Raymond from 1957 until their retirement in 1986.

She was a 1940 graduate of Oolitic High School and a member of the Crawford Street Church of Christ.

She was a Charter Member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority whose major philanthropic project is the American Cancer Society. Helen was very active with the sorority and had held all of the offices at one time or another. She was a past honoree by the Morgan County Relay for Life as a cancer survivor.

Survivors include her grandsons, Michael Thompson and Aaron Thompson; one great-granddaughter; sister, Grovetta Tosti; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Hanover, Camilla Morris, Danny Dunn, Dallas Dunn, Peggy True, Dottie Sallee, Gary Anderson, Bruce Anderson and Brent Anderson; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Stephan R. Thompson; sisters, Catherine Morrison, Carol Hamm and Velma Dunn; and brother, Dale Anderson.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Costin Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Kirby officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior the service.

Burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park in Martinsville.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1963, in Bedford to Robert and Janice (Meadows) King. Teresa married David Jones on July 12, 2002 in Bedford and he survives.

She was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ, and had worked at Arrow Consultation in Bloomington.

Surviving with her husband, David Jones of Mitchell; are her parents, Robert and Janice King of Mitchell; four sons, Tony Lawyer and wife Elisha of Orleans, Michael Lawyer and wife Amanda of Indianapolis, Darrin Jones of Columbus and Jeremy Jones and wife Tabitha of Bedford; one sister, Sherrie Egan and husband Tim of Mitchell; one brother, Robert King and wife Gretchen of Mitchell; 11 grandchildren; one niece, Kayla Hall of Mitchell; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her nephew, Timothy Egan.

Moneva (Lawyer) Staley, 94, of Bedford went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family at 12:42 p.m. on Saturday at the Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born Dec. 31, 1916, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Isaac and Minnie Ida (Hall) Lawyer. She married Walter L. Staley on Dec. 9, 1932, and he preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church.

She had worked for M. Fine and Sons and also Szabo Food Co.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue A. New of Bedford and Linda L. Benson and husband Richard of New Palestine; a niece, Beatrice Smith of Bloomington, who was like a sister; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Walter Staley Jr. and Robert Staley; and nine siblings, Damon Lawyer, Darvol Lawyer, Alva Lawyer, Dorothy Patton, Pauline Harvey, Mabel Srygley, Margaret Elizabeth Sullivan, Roland Lawyer and Arthur Lawyer.

John E. Moore, 72, of Avoca died at 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Born Dec. 13, 1939, in Brown County, he was the son of Joseph and Mae (Riebolt) Moore. He married Mary Cooper Shifflett on June 2, 1988, in Louisville, Ky., and she survives.

He was a mechanic and retired school bus driver.

He was a graduate of Nashville High School, Nashville. He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Moore of Avoca; two daughters, Pam (Mike) Oldham of Oolitic and Sherry (Charles) Jones of Gosport; five stepsons, Kenneth Shifflett, Curt Shifflett of Mitchell, Rocky Carr of St. Charles, Mo., Nick Shifflett of Fayetteville, and Chris Shifflett of Clarksville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Dionne (Larry) Vitaliano of Eminence, Mo., and Regina (Bruce) Kelly of Bloomington; 31 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mable Harford of California, Amanda Leinberger of California, Grace Rice of Florida, and Fern Headdy of California; two brothers, Grover Moore of Nashville, and Bill Moore of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepdaughter, Rosanna Reid; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doyle Henderson and Pastor John Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens, Bloomington.

Marged Ewing Fish, age 70, of Oolitic, passed away on Monday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

She was born Dec. 7, 1941, in Topeka, Kan., to Dr. William Kenneth Henry Ewing and Susan (Pascoe) Ewing.

She retired from Magic Morning Bakery in Bedford.

Marged attended the Bedford Baptist Temple in Bedford.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan E. (Fish) Linton of Bedford and her companion Ronald J. Sipes; two sons, John M. Fish of Oolitic, and Kenneth Robert Fish and wife Jennifer of Greenwood; one brother, Rev. Kenneth Ewing and wife Faye of Punta Gorda, Fla,; one stepdaughter, Michele Hatfield and husband Tim of Bedford; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and former husband, Michael J. Fish.

Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. on Friday at Cresthaven Funeral Home.

Alice Strauser Dobson, 94, of Fayetteville, died Sunday morning at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born Nov. 30, 1917, in Popcorn, Lawrence County, she was the oldest of the four children of Marcus and Nannie (Kirk) Strauser.

She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, homemaker, artist, seamstress, cook, singer and gardener. She was a member of the Faith Mission Church in Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Dobson; brother, Wayne; sister, Marjorie; daughter, Judith; son-in-law, Bill Kirk; and granddaughter, Vicki Kirk.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Oneita and Matt Burnette of Springville and sister-in-law Shirley Strauser of Dayton, Ohio; a son-in-law Lester “Bud” Mitchell (Judith), three children, Larry Dobson (Mary) of Solsberry, Opal Hamlin (Ronald) of Bloomfield, and Leonard Dobson (Kathryn) of the Philippines; 12 grandchildren Cyndi Coldren (Dave), Leslie Mitchell, Scott Dobson (Dena), Karen Bastin (Ben), DeWayne Hamlin (Deanna), Annette English (Steve), Jacob Dobson (Anna), Michael Dobson, Elizabeth Crapo (Austin), Mary Hedquist (Matt), Sarah Felt (Joe) and Joseph Dobson; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ethel E. (Lambert) Stephenson, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday at Westview Manor in Bedford.

Born Nov. 19, 1925, in Rochester, Pa., she was the daughter of Cecil and Zena (McKinney) Lambert. She married Pete J. Stephenson Jr. on April 6, 1957.

Survivors include her husband, Pete Stephenson of Springville; one son, Paul Stephenson of Bedford; two daughters, Peggy Stephenson of Tennessee and Carolyn Johnson of Buckeye Lake, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; and one brother, Paul Lambert of Logan, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard Bruce Stephenson; and one brother, Atha Lambert.

Larry Ray Walker Sr., 62, passed away at 4:27 p.m. Thursday at his residence.

Born Sept. 6, 1949, in Terre Haute, he was the son of Marcus D. and Ruth V. (Bruner) Walker.

He retired from Horner Electric in Indianapolis and had been employed at Jack’s Lounge and Dana Corporation.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Surviving are children, Melissa (Kevin) New of Mitchell, Larry R. Walker Jr. of Mitchell, Maria (Travis) King of Mitchell and Jennifer (Marcos) Nevarez, Ariz. brother, Jeffery (Vicki) Walker of Waldron; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; brothers, William Walker and Darrell Walker; and sister, Patricia Remaly, preceded him in death.

Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107 at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Haverly Chapel.

Arnold Lee Bex, age 70, of Mitchell, passed away on Friday unexpectedly due to complications from illness.

He was born on July 23, 1941, in Bedford, to Elmer and Ruth (Tolbert) Bex. He married Diane Reynolds on Nov. 8, 1959, and she proceeded him in death on Dec. 30, 1999.

He was previously employed at Holland Dairy and Internal Honing. He currently worked part time at Williams Security as a guard while running his own business, A&D Collectibles.

He is survived by four daughters, Angie (Mike) Kauffman of Vail, Ariz., Tina (Scott) Pensinger of Galion, Ohio, Shelley Kern of Bedford and Lana (Jim) Craig of Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Amel (Ann) Bex of Noblesville, and Roy (Roxie) Bex of Bedford; one brother-in-law, Lewis Patton Jr. of Mitchell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and one sister, Dorothy Patton.

Special thanks to Bob and Pam Bex for their care and support and to Gene and Loretta King for their friendship and generosity through the years.

He was affiliated with Fairview Church of Christ and had numerous friends and acquaintances. He attended Huron School and participated in sporting activities. He especially enjoyed baseball and basketball continuing to play and coach into his later years.

Born February 24, 1913, in Stanford, KY, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Mattie May (Bell) Breedlove. She first married Clyde Milton Burgess. She then married Leonard (Mac) Meadows on June 16, 1957, and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1981. She was retired from M. Fine & Sons.

Survivors include two daughters, Malinda Sue Delphia and Mary Bee Ray, both of Bedford; three grandchildren, Claudelle Livingston, of Greenwood, Pamela Squire, of Groveland, FL, and Shaun Dale Ray, of Louisville, KY; three great-grandchildren, Brandy Peach, of Ohio, Zack Peach and Shandelle Peach, both of Florida; one great-great-grandson, Clayton Lee James Moffitt, of Ohio; and a brother, Edward Thomas Breedlove, of Hodgenville, KY. She was preceded in death by both husbands; her parents; four brothers, Raymond, Earnest, Homer and Robert Breedlove; five sisters, Bertha Paynter, Rosie La Walters, Mary Breedlove, Maggie May Walters and Ethel Clemens.

Lee Hagan Hundley, 64, of Louisville, formerly of Bedford, IN, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Andrea (Berwick), and his parents, Lamar and Euvaline Hundley.

Lee was a 1965 graduate of Eastern High School and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the Batcat unit. He was a master mechanic, past president of the GM Service Masters Association, and retired as Service Manager of Bob Hook Chevrolet.

Survivors include his brother, John (Suzann); and sisters: Viola Berry, Pat Jackson (Dick), Doris Irwin (Buddy) and Sarah Wermuth. He is missed by all, including his uncle, Bill Cooke Sumner, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the XYZ Senior Club, Indianapolis, IN.

Survivors include her daughter, Beth Cappelen of Vero Beach; stepdaughter, Connie Kay Brown of McKinney, TX; sister, Velma Todd of Meridian, MS; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She retired from RCA after over 20 years of employment and attended Shawswick High School. She was also of the Baptist Faith.

Joseph L. Myers

July 25, 1920 — Dec. 15, 2011

Joseph Lamont Myers, 91, of Bloomington, and formerly of Bedford, died on Thursday at his residence.

He was born on July 25, 1920, in Bedford, the son of Thomas Newton and Maude (Dorsett) Myers.

He was a small business owner and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Corps.

Joe will be remembered as a loving husband, a caring father, and a talented photographer. His life included many pursuits.

A 1938 graduate of Bedford High School, he worked at W.F. Meyers Company, Indiana Limestone Company, and Allison Engine Indianapolis prior to entering the U.S. Air Corps. His service during WW II took him to the South Pacific where he was trained in aeronautics and performed as an aircraft mechanic on 8th Air Force B-25 and B-29 bombers.

After the war, he and his wife Rachel drove across country on Route 66 to begin their life together in Los Angeles. After studying photography with Fred Archer and perfecting his craft in Hollywood in the 1950s, he returned to Bedford to open his studio and raise a family. He continued to run a successful studio in Bedford and then Bloomington until retirement in 1997.

Survivors include his son, Joe David Myers and partner Cathy Sue Croxton of Bloomington; his daughter, Lou Ann Temkin and husband Marc Temkin of Chicago; grandsons, Grant Joseph Myers and Mitchell Cameron Myers of Bloomington; and nieces; nephews; and cousins throughout Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel E. Myers, daughter of Levi and Maude Rhorer of Bedford; and sister Frances Lambrecht of Bedford.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Roy L. Hooten of Orleans. They were married Sept. 19, 1956. She had worked at JC Penney for 27 years, retiring in 1997.

Mary O. Harrison

Mary O. Harrison, 82, of Indianapolis, formerly of Mitchell, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on Dec. 13 after a lengthy illness.

Mary was born in Mitchell to Bessie Muriel Chastain on March 10, 1929, but was raised by her grandparents, Sanford and Winnie Chastain, after her mother’s death. Mary was a 1947 graduate of Mitchell High School.

Mary was married to Charles Robert Harrison shortly after her graduation in 1947, and they divorced in 1963. She later was married to Harry C. Harrison in 1973. Each of them preceded her in death.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Elissa Lindsey and son-in-law, Richard E. Lindsey of Fishers; two granddaughters, Kaitlin (Tim) Brodnik and April (Brad) Looney; a grandson Richard C. (Amy) Lindsey; five great-grandchildren; several cousins; and an aunt.

Mary was a chairwoman of the Persimmon Festival in 1970. She loved coordinating events and was active in several social and volunteer organizations. She was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority during the time she lived in Mitchell.

Mary had also lived in El Paso and Dallas, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M., for several years. She had worked in several different career fields, but most recently was retired from commercial property leasing.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Mary’s son-in-law, Rick, officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2–6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

George L. Lenze, 76, of Springville, and formerly of Branchville, N.J., died on Monday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington.

He was born on March 6, 1935, in St. Mary’s, Pa., the son of Albert and Anna (Hababerger) Lenze.

He was a self-employed business owner and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was of the Christian faith.

George will long be remembered for his hard work helping others in securing a home, at one time owned an inn in Vermont that was re-established as a working dairy farm, owned a motel and for more than 30 years served as a volunteer fireman with the Frankfort Township Volunteer Fire Department in Branchville, N.J. He also supported the Springville Volunteer Fire Department.

Striving to be the best, he firmly lived the adage, “do unto others as you would wish them to do unto you”.

Stephen Edwards Jones, 72, of Bedford, died at 12:52 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Nov. 25, 1939 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Edward W. and Ruth E. (Edwards) Jones.

He was the owner and principal broker at Jones & Jones Agency.

He was a pilot and enjoyed flying. He was a member of Kiwanis, N.R.A., 4-H and R.O.T.C. at Culver Military Academy. He served as county commissioner and was instrumental in the restoration and saving of the Williams covered bridge by having it placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Survivors include children, Jeff Jones and wife Veronika, and Trent Jones, all of Bloomington, Stephanie Jones Cassidy of Plainfield, Elizabeth (Liz) Jones and her fiancé Deren Bagsby of Indianapolis, and Tania Jones and Michelle Jones, both of Bloomington; and a grandchild, Kelsie Cassidy of Plainfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandchild, Kaden Cassidy.

Born July 2, 1920, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of James C. and Eva (Johnson) Rothenberger. She married Charles Nickless in May of 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1967.

She had worked at M. Fine and Sons and at NWSC Crane. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Helen R. Barnett, 77, of 319 Hickory Heights, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Monroe Hospital in Bloomington.

Born on Aug. 15, 1934, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Herbert Hutchinson and Mary (Glover) Hutchinson. She married Bob Barnett on April 1, 1949, and he passed away on April 6, 1996.

She retired from RCA in 1976 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Amelia Alice Graves, 98, of Bedford died at 6:55 p.m. on Friday, at the White River Lodge in Bedford.

She was born March 16, 1913, in Indianapolis. She married John E. Graves and he preceded her in death.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford.

Amelia was an artist, singer, volunteer for the American Red Cross, and a talk radio host for the Bedford and Bloomington radio stations.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond “Gary” Graves and wife Debbie of Springville and Daniel Lee Graves and wife Judith of Greensburg; one daughter, Pacha L. Grissom and husband Jim of Cedarburg, Wis.; nine grandchildren,; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three brothers, Charles, George, and Claude Sides.

Bonnie (Jones) Patton Ramsey of Springville passed away on Sunday at home surrounded by loving family.

She was born Jan. 12, 1933, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Charles and Fronia Jones.

She is survived by daughters, Patricia Vermillion (Jeffery) of Springville and Sandra Garber of Las Vegas, Nev. and son, Timothy Patton of Springville. She was the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are one brother, Charles Hollis Jones of Burbank, Calif.; and one sister, Janet Tyree of Bloomington.

Bonnie enjoyed gardening, bowling, fishing, playing video games and jigsaw puzzles.

She worked at RCA in Bloomington for 20 years and Ford Visteon in Bedford until her retirement in 2001.

She was preceded in death by her son, Edward Patton; husband, Donald Patton; husband, Robert Ramsey; and grandson, Scott Johnson.

Esther B. McKamey, 86, Mitchell, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Friday, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Sept. 8, 1925, in Bono Township, she was the daughter of Carl Leroy and Flossie G. (Hunsucker) Talbott. She married Kenneth A. McKamey on Sept. 2, 1950, and he preceded her in death Jan. 1, 2011.

She retired from RCA in 1981 with 34 years of service and was a former member of the City of Bloomington Advisory Board.

Esther resided with and assisted Dr. and Mrs. J.R. Hamilton in their home during her high school years, enabling her to graduate in 1946 from Mitchell High School.

She was a member of the Unionville Church of Christ.

Surviving are a sister- in-law, Joanne Talbott of Mitchell; nieces and nephews, Glen Blackwell, Mark Talbott, Daniel Talbott, Donna Jean Davidson, Marty Blackwell and Toni Talbott; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Her parents; husband; sisters, Lucille Blackwell, Bonnie Chestnut, Fern E. Talbott, and Jean Mishler; brother, Raleigh Leroy Talbott; and twin brother, Chester Talbott, preceded her in death.

Howard T. King

Howard T. King, 66, of Columbus, died at 2:50 p.m. Friday at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin.

Mr. King was a 1963 graduate of Shawswick High School in Lawrence County and served with the Indiana National Guard from 1964-1970.

He was a sub-station maintenance supervisor with Duke Energy retiring in 2002 after 38 ½ years of service. After retirement, Mr. King worked at Columbus Engineering Inc. and Oak Knoll Golf Course.

His associations and activities include, past president of Board of Directors of Eastern Bartholomew Water Corporation, a 10 year 4-H leader, a member of Mill Race Center, a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Bedford, and involved with Hospice of South Central Indiana fund raising and basketball, volleyball and softball teams.

A casual celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus, with family and friends sharing special memories. The family invites anyone in attendance to share their memories of Mr. King during this celebration.

Andi J. Burns

Andi J. Burns, 19, of Bloomington, passed away at his residence on Friday, December 9, 2011.

Andi was born on April 1, 1992 in Bloomington into the home of Rusty and Regina (Fisher) Burns. He was a 2010 graduate of Edgewood High School where he was a member of the Debate Team. He played in youth sports when he was younger and won the Quarterback Award at the Mike Peterson Colts Camp. He earned a Purple Belt at the Monroe County Martial Arts center. Andi was an exceptionally talented musician and song lyricist, playing in the band Soulfish and Blue Rising. He and his band won the Battle of the Bands in spring of 2011 and Andi, himself won the regional finals at the Guitar Center in Indianapolis. The guitar was his instrument of choice. In his spare time he loved to read, watch television and watch Netflix movies. He was a beloved son, brother, grandson and uncle, and will be forever missed by all that knew him.

Andi is survived by his parents, Rusty and Regina Burns; sisters, Lori Burns and Kasi Burns, all of Ellettsville; grandparents, Gilbert and Ginny Fisher of Ellettsville and Dott Ann Burns of Gosport; uncles, Roy (Jackie) Burns of Bloomington and Robert (Ericka) Burns of Bedford; aunts, Joyce (Cornelius) Mitchem of Jacksonville, FL, and Julie Fisher of MS; nieces, Jaida Evans and Sabrina Aker; and cousins, Brooke Taylor, Angel Collier and Brandon Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wallace Burns, in 1994.

James P. Adams

James Phonzo Adams, 98, passed away Thursday, December 8, in Bloomington.

James was born December 2, 1913, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to his parents, Joseph P. and Flora Belle Adams. James was raised, after his father’s early death, by his Uncle and Aunt, James Urban and Ida Mae Adams, in Daviess County, Kentucky. He attended high school in Camden, Tennessee, then enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps in that state. He returned to Owensboro and worked at the KenRad radio tube plant prior to the Second World War. During the war he worked as an inspector at a Sherman Tank manufacturing plant in Granite City, Illinois. He was a Georgia Life insurance agent for many years in Louisville, Kentucky, and managed movie theaters in Louisville and Greenwood, Indiana, prior to retiring. James thoroughly enjoyed working as an usher at Indiana University basketball and football games during his post retirement years in Bloomington. His life was blessed by 33 years of companionship by Dora Moore of Bloomington. He was thankful for the love, kindness and assistance of Dora’s children, Rita, Jenie, Glenda, Wayne and Larry, and delighted by the presence of Dora’s granddaughters Kerrie, Sheri and Kirstin.

He was preceded in death by his brother Hugh A. Adams. He is survived by his half-sister Margaret Wilmseg, and half-brother Monroe Davis.

He is survived by daughter, Charlene Battle, and sons, James D., Terry D., and John C. Adams; grandchildren, James Adams, David Adams, Charlene Kalck, Leah Mangue, Sheri Adams, Sarah Bednar, Grant Adams, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Adams and Charles Adams; great-grandchildren, Buddy Kalck, Trevor Kalck, Ashley Kalck, Holly Kalck, Vincent Mangue, Ryan Bednar, Fallon Jameson and Trinity Bednar.

Benjamin J. Purlee Jr., 90, of West Baden Springs, (Orangeville area) died Saturday, December 10, 2011, at the IU Health Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

Mr. Purlee was born December 30, 1920, in Orangeville, Indiana. His parents were Benjamin J. and Jesse Hall Purlee Sr.

He married Irene Purlee in September of 1945 and she preceded him in death December 4, 2011.

He was a World War II Army veteran, self-employed farmer and a member of the Bethel Community Church.

He is survived by four sons, Robert Purlee of Bedford, Indiana, Larry Purlee of West Baden, Indiana, James Purlee of Knoxville, Tennessee, and John Purlee of Danville, California. One sister survives, Dorothy Coleman of Asheville, North Carolina. There are seven grandchildren and fifteen great-

grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, three sisters, Evelyn Sorrells, Lela Mae Bass and Mary Eversole, and one great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be at the Bethel Community Church, Orleans, on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at 11 a.m., with Bro. David Conley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, Orleans.

Peggy J. Bundy, 65, of Bedford, died at 12 p.m. on Thursday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, Bedford, surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 14, 1946, in Oolitic, she was the daughter of Earl E. and Rhea Dawn (Timms) Hillenburg. She married David G. Bundy on May 20, 1964, and he died Sept. 13, 1991.

She last worked at PRD in Needmore on the production and assembly line. She had also previously worked at Dunn Memorial Hospital in housekeeping.

She was a graduate of Oolitic High School, Class of 1964.

She attended Dive Christian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie A. (Donald) Norman of Heltonville and Pamela Jean Nicholson of Oolitic; three grandchildren, Chanelle J. Norman, Travis B. Norman and Devin E. Nicholson; one great-granddaughter, Maddison M. Norman; one brother, Tracy L. (Sue) Hillenburg of Shoals; and two sisters, Marsha A. Horton and Kelly Reed, both of Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kevin E. Hillenburg.

Doris L. Bex

Doris Loviana (Maick) Bex, 87, of Bedford, was called to be with her Lord on Wednesday.

She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Born Nov. 2, 1924, she was the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Craig) Maick. She married Robert Bex on Feb. 5, 1944, and he preceded her in death.

Doris had attended Assembly of God church in Bedford and Dive Christian Church.

Doris had worked at Delco-Remy briefly, the old Woolworth store in Bedford, and was trained in Cosmetology in Indianapolis. She owned and operated Bex Beauty Salon in Bedford for many years, until her retirement, serving at least once as the local hairdressers group’s president.

She enjoyed many activities, reading her Bible, gardening, often growing starts to give to friends and family, knitting, crocheting, needle point, cross stitch and quilting to name a few. She also loved to cook and bake, often giving the breads or puddings to others. Doris received an official thank you letter from the city for making food for the police and fire workers during one of the blizzards of the late 70’s.

Doris loved to sit on her back deck and watch and feed the animals in her yard: squirrels, birds, even the ground hog that lives under her yard barn.

Doris was an avid IU basketball, Pacer basketball, and Damon Bailey fan.

Doris is survived by a sister, Regiena Swango of Orlando, Fla; two brothers, Lurley Maick and wife Barbara of Arcadia, Fla. and Eddie Maick of Bedford; a daughter, Sonya Riddle and husband Kyle of Orlando, Fla.; one son, Robert Bex II and wife Patty of Bedford; grandchildren; Soni McCarty and husband Art, Regiena Irizar and husband CJ and Kyle Riddle III, all of Florida, Robin Bex of Bloomington, Jennifer Bex of Indianapolis, Mathew Turner and wife Dianna of Bedford, and Angie Chase and husband Joe of Springville; great-grandchildren; Gia, Mari and CJ (Carlos) Maxwwell, Allie and Kenzie McCarty of Florida, Lauren and Garrett Turner of Bedford, and Taylor and Ashley Chase of Springville; and other family and dear friends.

Also preceeding her in death were daughter-in-law, Claudia J. (Helton) Bex; and sisters; Louise Maick, Eileen Koch, Lima Summers, Gretchen Ballinger, Mildred Lyons and Rhodressa Taylor.

Frances I. Hornocker, 88, of Bedford, died at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday at StoneBridge Health Campus.

Born Feb. 20, 1923, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Noah Noble and Maude (McMullen) Mitchell. She was an ordinance worker for NWSC, Sarkes-Tarzian, RCA and a clerk at Hooks Drugstore. She volunteered at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital for many years and was a member at First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Coffman and husband Walter of Bedford and Sue Fuhrman and husband Ron of Santa Claus; three grandchildren, Bruce Fuhrman and wife Penelope of Rockvale, Tenn., Jennifer Hack and husband Brad of Louisville, Ky., and Jeremy Coffman of Bedford; three great-grandchildren; and one niece, Martha Lou Cummings.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one half-brother, Loren Mitchell; and one niece, Marilyn Inman.

Leo F. Hovis, 78, Shoals, died Wednesday at 4:30 a.m. at White River Lodge in Bedford.

He was born in Shoals on Jan. 17, 1933, to Fred Hovis and Blanche (Burris) Hovis. He married Betty Owens on Sept. 1, 1957, and she preceded him in death on March 16, 2002.

He worked for Standard Paving in Illinois. He also worked for Shoals Community Schools Corp., retiring in 1996. He was of Christian faith and was a past member of White River Masonic Lodge No. 322 F&AM.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin Hovis of Shoals and Terry Hovis of Clumbus; two daughters, Darla Hood of Indianapolis and Carol Abel of Shoals; nine grandchldren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marie Cave of Jasper, Carlene Eastridge of French Lick, Betty Salmon of Shoals and Linda Cannon of Petersburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, a sister Jeanie Landand, and a son, Ricky Lee Hovis, in 1965.

Hazel Fender

Hazel E. Fender, 95, of 929 L St., Bedford, died at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday at her residence.

Born August 19, 1916 in Bedford, she was the daughter of James A. and Cora M. (Dalton) Hoopingarner. She married Kenneth R. Fender on August 11, 1937, and he preceded her in death in 1981. She was an assembly worker at General Motors and a Lifetime member of UAW Local No. 440.

Survivors include; one daughter, Sue Johnson and husband Don of Bedford, one son, Jerry Fender of Bedford, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Robert Lee Fender and John David Fender; two sisters, Flora White and Lucille Hendrickson; and three brothers, Clyde, Floyd and Paul Hoopingarner.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday from the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. James Hoopingarner officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Irene Purlee

Irene Purlee, 87, of West Baden Springs, (Orangeville area) died Sunday at the Paoli Health and Living in Paoli.

Mrs. Purlee was born October 6, 1924 in Shoals, Martin County. Her parents were Frank and Rachel McCart Mundy.

She married Ben J. Purlee in September of 1945 and he survives.

She is also survived by four sons, Robert Purlee of Bedford, Larry Purlee of West Baden, James Purlee of Knoxville, Tenn., and John Purlee of Danville, Calif. One sister survives, Garnet Mundy of Huron. There are seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and one great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be at the Bethel Community Church, Orleans on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, Orleans.

Mary Turner, 82, of Bedford, died at 6:36 p.m. on Sunday at her residence.

Born August 24, 1929 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Vernon O. and Ollie (Sproles) Hicks, Sr. She married Orda Claude Turner on December 22, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1986. Mary retired from General Motors, was a member and a Sunday School Teacher for 30 years at the Bedford Baptist Temple and a newspaper carrier on and off for 50 years.

Survivors include: one brother, Robert E. Hicks and wife Lisa of Bedford, one sister, Alice (Hicks) Hartman of Oolitic, one son, Dewayne Turner and wife Gayle of Martinsville, three grandchildren, John W. Turner, Jr. of Bedford, Angela Thorp and husband Craig of Bedford and Bradley Barger and his wife Brooke of Bedford, six great-grandchildren, Brett, Briana and Ashley Myers, Emlyn and Rosa Barger and Whitney Hanks. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, William W. Hicks, Vernon O. Hicks, Jr. and Samuel J. Hicks, one sister, Ruby Nelson, children, John W. Turner, Sr., Pamela Barger, Paul Turner and Darlene Chapman. Judith DuBois

Judith A. DuBois, 67, of Solsberry, passed away Monday at Monroe Hospital. She was born on December 2, 1944 in Bloomington, the daughter of William Edward and Ruth (Headley) Voliva.

Judith retired from Stonebelt after 20 years of service as a caseworker. She attended the Woodhaven Christian Church.

Judith is survived by her loving husband Bruce DuBois; one son Andrew DuBois; one daughter Angela Sue Cheshire (Bud) all of Solsberry; her mother Ruth Voliva; one sister Barbara Barger of Bloomington; two brothers Philip Voliva of Bloomington and James Voliva of Heltonville; three step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Judith was preceded in death by her father, one sister, Marilyn Roach, and one nephew, Brad Roach.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Baker officiating. Family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Raymond Cain

Raymond (Pete) Cain, 86, of Bedford, died at 1:03 a.m. on Saturday at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born October 22, 1925 in Bedford, he was the son of Eathel and Grace (Grow) Cain. He married Marguerite (Flinn) Cain October 18, 1947, and she survives. Pete retired from General Motors. He was a World War II Navy veteran and the former Commander of the American Legion Gillen Post 33 and the V.F.W. Post 1686. He was a Mason and a member of the Englewood Baptist Church. Pete was an avid fisherman, camper and loving grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite, of Bedford; two daughters, Cathy Gilbert of Bloomington, and Tammy Wronowicz and husband, John of Bloomington; a daughter-in-law, Jeri Cain of Bedford; five grandchildren, Phillip Cain of Bedford, Chris Gilbert and wife Shannon of Maryland, Shad Gilbert of Bloomington, Mandy Allen of Bedford, and Brittany Phillips of Bloomington; 10 great-grandchildren, Kelsi Allen, Kensi Allen, Christopher Gilbert, Alex Gilbert, Laney Gilbert, Alexis Nelson, Bowen Phillips, Shayla Sandoval, Brylee Holguin and Avrianna Holguin; three brothers, Mike Cain and wife Jan of Bedford, Jason Cain of Bedford, and John and wife Terry of California; two sisters, Lucille Richardson of California, and Geraldine Clark and husband Jim of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-mother, Francis Cain; a son, Phil Cain; one brother, Richard Beasley and six sisters, Mildred Enochs, Rita Jarzombek, Linda Walker, Janice Cain, Marilyn Cain and Christine Bailey.

Clifford Hallaway

Clifford R. Hallaway, age 88, West Baden Springs passed away at 10:12 p.m. on Thursday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Clifford was born on September 27, 1923 in Orange County to Ernest and Lottie (Stackhouse) Hallaway. He married Marie Louise McCracken on October 3, 1947 and she survives.

He was retired from Crane where he had worked as an Electronic Technician for 30 years. Following his retirement, he drove a log truck for Owens’ Sawmill and was also a flight instructor at several different airports. He was a member of the French Lick American Legion Post No. 76 and the VFW in Crane, Indiana and he was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran. While serving in the military he was awarded several medals including two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He enjoyed flying planes and watching car races.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Hallaway of West Baden Springs, brothers, Dale Hallaway of Centerville, Pennsylvania and Rex Hallaway of French Lick, sisters, Carol Sue Drake of Mitchell, Pauline Rominger of French Lick and Marilyn Jones of Wabash, Indiana. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick where the family received visitors Sunday and today. The funeral service was today at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Moffatt officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Chapel Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.

Born December 26, 1942 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Lester and Vada (Anderson) Mullinax. She married John W. Brazzel and later married Vollie D. Staggs. She was a Radiology and Cardiology Tech at Dunn Hospital.

Survivors include one daughter, Trevada Wade of Oolitic, two sons, Alan Brazzel of Owensburg and Bryon Brazzel of Bedford, three grandchildren, Crystal, Bambi and Levi, four great-grandchildren, Kyla, Trevor, Alexus and Tanner, one brother, Don Mullinax of Bedford, one sister, Betty Beren of Bedford and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and three brothers.

Carolyn (Bishop) Schreiber, 83, formerly of Mitchell, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born December 25, 1927, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Dan Braman and Carrie (Chess) Bishop. She married Dale A. Schreiber May 18, 1991.

She was a nurse and had been employed many years for Dr. J. R. Hamilton. Carolyn was a member of the Bryantsville Church of Christ, graduated from Mitchell High School in 1946, and pursued her nursing degree at Vincennes University.

Surviving are her husband, Dale A. Schreiber, Bedford; 12 nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews

Her parents; brothers, Paul Bishop and Joe Bishop, formerly of Indianapolis; and sister, Martha Bishop Deckard, formerly of Mitchell, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, December 6, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bloomington.

Claudine M. Gould, 82, of Bedford, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born August 17, 1929 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Claude M. and Ruth M. (Pritchett) Taylor. She married Jerry W. Gould, and he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Salvation Army and the First Church of God Women’s Group.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Bedford; a daughter, Regina K. Buttz and husband, Jim of Albuquerque, N.M.; one son, John J. Gould and wife, Sue of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Cassie Gould of Bedford; six grandchildren, Dana I. Tran, Tara N. Elliott, Carrie M. Gould Butterly, Matthew J. Gould, Hannah S. Gould and Lane T. Gould; three great-granddaughters, Lexi Tran, Ella Tran and Lyla Elliott; one great-grandson, London Elliott.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mike D. Gould; two brothers, Austin and Tommy D. Taylor.

Patricia Hopkins

Mrs. Patricia C. “Patty” Hopkins, 80, of Richmond, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, at Golden Living Center Oak Park.

She was born Dec. 13, 1930 in Bedford, Ind., to James and Anna Lincolnbach Concannon. She was united in marriage to Robert L. “Bob” Hopkins on July 18, 1954. They shared 54 years together until Bob’s death on June 27, 2009. Patty managed the office for the family business, Hopkins Home Improvement. She enjoyed reading mystery novels, doing needlepoint and entertainment by Lawrence Welk.

Patty is survived by her son, Darrell Hopkins and his companion, Amanda Michaels; three grandchildren, Anthony Hopkins, Alexandra Hopkins and Makayla Hopkins; a brother, Philip A. Concannon of Bedford, Ind.; nieces and nephews.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, James P. Concannon and Joseph M. Concannon; four sisters, Cecilia Ann Keller, Rita K. Handley, Katherine Gaines and Mary Ard.

A funeral ceremony was conducted by Rev. Max Knight at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 U.S. 27 South, Fountain City. Interment followed in Elkhorn Cemetery.

Family and friends gathered for visitation from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the funeral home.
