Virginia R. Cox

May 25, 1918 — Oct. 31, 2011

Virginia R. Cox, 93, of Williams, died at 5:05 a.m. today at StoneBridge Health Campus.

Born May 25, 1918, in Williams, she was the daughter of Merle and Bertha (Wagner) Smith. She married Henry Cox on May 1, 1938, and he preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Williams Extension Homemakers Club.

Survivors include a son, Don Cox of Williams; two daughters, Sharon (Gene) Michel and Charlotte (Jack) Michel all of North Manchester; five grandchildren, Gwen, Barb, Greg, Jeff and Jason; and 10 great-grandchildren, Cody, Cole, Troy, Jordan, Elizabeth, Katie, Bailey, Skyler, Jaiden and Zach.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Steve Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the mortuary.

The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Williams Cemetery Association.

Maxine Webb

April 29, 1936 — Oct. 28, 2011

Maxine Webb, 75, of Ellettsville, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, October 28, 2011. She was born in Monroe County on April 29, 1936, to Ralph E. and Alice (Swafford) Medley Sr. She attended Stinesville schools and later nursing. Maxine retired from nursing at Bloomington Hospital in 1994 where she worked on 3 West for many years. In 1990 she received the Mildred B. Kohr, Excellence in Nursing Award. She then worked at Jackson Creek Middle School in the cafeteria and most recently was working for Home Instead. Mrs. Webb enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, mushroom hunting and volunteering at the RBB store. She was a member of the Old Dutch Community Church.

Maxine is survived by her three sons, Charles David (Shirley) Webb, of Ellettsville, Douglas E. (Tina) Webb, of Gosport, and Mike D. Webb, of Ellettsville; brothers, William “Bill” Medley, of Williams, and Ralph “Curly” Medley Jr., of Ellettsville; sisters, Wilma Ward and Mary Alice Hunt, of St. Petersburg, FL; and three grandchildren, Amber (David) Weddle, Tony Webb and Ashley Webb.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel E. “Boone” Webb, in 1996; brothers, Robert Medley, Charles Medley, Harold Medley and Donald Medley; and sister, Margaret Hopkins.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Old Dutch Community Church. Rev. Paul Shear will officiate. Burial will follow at Old Dutch Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Cheryl Ann King

Cheryl Ann King, 63, Mitchell, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Friday at her residence.

Born June 6, 1948, in Plainville, she was the daughter of Marjorie Reynolds. She married Merlin King on Oct. 21, 1983.

She had been employed at Naval Surface Warfare—Crane.

Cheryl was a charter and lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107 Auxiliary and was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 250 Auxiliary.

She attended the Bride of Christ Fellowship.

Surviving are her husband, Merlin King of Mitchell; children, Jacquelyn Cleek and Dana King of Mitchell and Aaron Kelsey of Madison; stepchildren, Jolene (Junior) Rayhill of Mitchell and Ryan (Melanie) King of Bedford; 11 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister, Linda (Richard) Starling of Hardinsburg and brother, Gary Bough of Shoals.

Her mother, Marjorie Bedeker; two sisters in infancy; and a stepdaughter, Evie Hill, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Allen and Brother Ted Hawkins officiating. Entombment will be at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday and from 11:30 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.

A memorial service will be conducted by the VFW Post No. 9107 Auxiliary at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Norma J. Anderson

Norma J. Anderson of Bloomington passed away Thursday at StroneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

She was born in Bloomington the daughter of Glade and Rena (Owens) Anderson and graduated from Marshall Township High School in Lawrence County.

She retired from General Electric Corp. in Bloomington after many years of service and previously worked at RCA.

She was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church, a member of the IBEW, an avid bowler and loved to go fishing. For many years she participated in the RCA League at Classic Bowling Lanes.

One of the things she loved to do most after retiring was to travel around the country, often visiting with former co-workers and friends.

Survivors include her nieces and caregivers, Patty Anderson of Bloomington and Debbie Anderson of Bedford; a great-niece, Madeline Trigg of Bloomington, two sisters, Kathleen Garner of Breman, Ga., and Corinne Deckard of Berrien Springs, Mich.; her sister-in-law, Marie Anderson of Bedford; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Gayle Condiff; and three brothers, James D. “Bill” Anderson, Dean Anderson and John Anderson.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37 in Bloomington with the Rev. Ron Hendrick officiating. Burial will be at Greene County Chapel Cemetery near Stanford.

Annie Rodriguez

Annie (Grace) Rodriguez, 91, of Bedford and formerly of Tennessee, died at 10:10 a.m. on Friday at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bedford.

Born June 30, 1920, in Beech Bluff, Tenn., she was the daughter of William Virgil and Myrtle (Stokes) Barnes. She married Jose (Raul) Rodriguez and he survives.

She was a missionary serving in Central and South America and had been a church secretary in New Orleans. While in New Orleans, she had a 50-minute radio ministry program for the Spanish speaking population.

Survivors include her husband, Raul of Bedford; a brother, Clifford Barnes and wife Mary Lou of Bedford; a sister, Ola Mae Lamb of Memphis, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and four sisters.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Beech Bluff Cemetery in Jackson, Tenn.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the cemetery.

Helen Stevens

Helen Stevens, age 89, of Bedford, passed away at 6:40 p.m. on Thursday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Helen was born in Bedford on May 11, 1922, to Earnest and Goldie (Sons) Mundy. She married the Rev. Joe Stevens on April 14, 1939, and he survives. Helen was a homemaker and along with her husband the Rev. Joe Stevens founded the Friendly Bible Church in Bedford.

She was a member of the Friendly Bible Church in Bedford

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, the Rev. Joe Stevens of Bedford; her children, Sharon Kay Lyons and husband Carl of Bedford, Joseph E. Stevens and wife Brenda of Bedford, Jerry E. Stevens and wife Ana of Bedford, Linda Maxine Jenkins and husband Tom of Buddha, daughter-in-law Bea Stevens of Bedford; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary James Stevens; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Holsapple; and one brother, Kenneth Mundy.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford. Bro. Tim Jenkins will officiate. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Genevieve A. Wever

Genevieve Ann Wever, 67, of Bedford, went to be with our Lord and Savior at 10:06 a.m. on Thursday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Dec. 7, 1943 in Lafayette, she was the daughter of Joseph L. and Martha (Courter) Janz.

She was a devoted and loyal employee at the Hoosier Hills Credit Union for 22 years.

She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Genevieve was passionate about spending time with her grandchildren and was a gift to all who knew her.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Cepeda of Speedway; a son, Joey Wever and wife Nancy of Indianapolis; three grandsons, Aaron Lawrence Manuel Cepeda of Speedway, and Paul Joseph Wever and Coleman Oliver Wever, both of Indianapolis; three sisters, Mary L. Janz of Speedway, Geraldine Rose and husband Charlie of Michigan, and Gwendolyn Warner and husband Max of Fishers; five nieces and nephews; and five great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Joseph Lawrence Wever.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Committal will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Washington Park East Mausoleum in Indianapolis.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary where a rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m.

Carolyn Sue Hack, 74, passed away at 8:53 a.m. Thursday at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1937, in Goosetown, she was the daughter of Harry Woodrow “Woody” and Lucretia (Goen) Dalton. She married Kenneth Hack June 7, 1958.

She was a homemaker and had been employed at Lonnie’s Restaurant.

Sue was a member of the Mitchell First Church of God, and the Christian Women Connection. She graduated from Tunnelton High School in 1955, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and enjoyed cooking and crafts.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Hack of Bedford; children, Lisa Irene (Jim) Sanders of Shoals, William Kevin (Julia) Hack of Mitchell, Susan Kay Johnson of Bloomington, Lori Lynn (Shane) Troutman of Mitchell and Anthony Joe Hack of Mitchell; grandchildren, Natalie (Jason) Cotton, Brandon (Casey) Hack, Megan Young, Scott Sanders, Kelly Sanders (Brett) Rascoe, and Christian Troutman; great-grandchildren, Joshua Hack, Jakob Hack, Maisa Cotton, Christian Cotton, Lucas Sanders, Conner Rascoe, Emma Rascoe, and Kirstie Rascoe; brothers, Kenny Dalton of Buddha and Jack Dalton of Las Vegas, Nev.; and nephew, Kinley Hack of Bedford.

Her parents; brother, Harry Eugene “Gene” Dalton; and sister, Donna Gentry, preceded her in death.

Celebration of Life service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mitchell First Church of God with Brother Kenny Dalton, the Rev. Roland Holtsclaw, and the Rev. Robert Courson officiating. A private family graveside service will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

Susan M. (Beretta) Clark, 62, of Bedford, died at 6:08 p.m. on Wednesday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Aug. 6, 1949, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Fernando Frederick Beretta and Helen Marie (Pattison) Beretta.

She was a Material Control Manager for RSI for many years.

She was a 1967 graduate of Bedford High School.

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church for many years.

Surviving are one son, Scott Clark of Bedford; one daughter, Mary Clark of Indianapolis; one sister, Diane (Mark) Conley of Fairland,; one niece, Jordan Conley of Fairland; and her companion, Ron Staggs of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ronald W. Horton, 61, of Mitchell, died at 8:36 a.m., Tuesday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Nov. 2, 1949, in Seymour, he was the son of Buford and Myrtle Marie (Charles) Horton. He married Marsha Hillenburg on April 17, 1970, and she survives.

He was employed at RCA-Thomson Electronics in Bloomington for 28 years.

Surviving are his wife, Marsha Horton of Mitchell; two sons, Anthony Horton, and Joshua (Tricia) Horton, all of Mitchell; three granddaughters, Adriel, Drew and Kiel Horton; two sisters, Linda Riley and Jill Haws, both of Seymour; two uncles, Roger Lee Horton and Larry Horton, both of Bedford; and one aunt, Mary Harper of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Roger Horton.

Chester W. Tincher

Chester W. Tincher, 73, of Springville, died at 3:01 p.m. Tuesday at his residence.

Born Nov. 17, 1937, in Linton, he was the son of Leonard and Bernice (Martindale) Tincher. He married Carolyn Manetta Evans on May 23, 1957; and she preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2007.

He was an elementary school teacher with the North Lawrence Community Schools System, retiring after 29 years of service.

He was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Deanna Crane and Cherryl Tincher of Springville and Melinda (Greg) Donoho of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Jamie (Brett) Pittman of Springville and Ethan, Liam, and Elena Donoho of Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Bailey and Devin Pittman; two brothers, Larry (Carolyn) Tincher of Guthrie and Marion (Irma) Tincher of Avoca; stepmother, Dorval Tincher of Bedford; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Edington of Florida and Rosemary Blyeth of Springville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn; brother, Ronald Tincher; and son-in-law, Don Crane.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Avoca Baptist Church with Pastor Kyle Witmer officiating. Burial will be in Avoca Baptist Church Cemetery.

Beulah Irene Parish, 93, Leipsic, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at her residence.

Born June 3, 1918, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Claude and Elva (Elliott) Boyd. She married Cloran Elwood Parish May 23, 1936, and he preceded her in death April 6, 2005.

She was a beautician and a member of the Leipsic United Methodist Church. Beulah graduated from Orleans High School in 1936.

Surviving are daughters, Victoria Rae Burke of Mitchell and Rebecca Mae Evans of Orleans; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and twin sister, Eulah Kirby of French Lick

Her parents; husband; son-in-law, Cletis Ray Evans; sisters, Fern Brewer, Opal McClain, Ethel McCoy, Lorraine Boyd and Edna White; and brothers, Paul Boyd, Leo Boyd and Harold Boyd, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Orleans.

Born Aug. 19, 1917 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harry and Della (Thompson) Voorhies.

She married Louis Arnold Padgett, who preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her son, Robert Padgett; one brother, Dr. William Earl Voorhies, Tullahoma, Tn.; one sister, Ida Voorhies, Marion, Il.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and neighbor, Marie Medley.

Robert “Bob” Hickerson, 59, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at his residence.

Born March 15, 1952, in Hot Springs, AR, he was the son of Lester and Vivian (Love) Hickerson. He was a business owner and salesman in the automobile industry in Hot Springs and Bedford.

Survivors include his father, Lester Hickerson (Martha) of Hot Springs, AR; a son, Seth Hickerson and wife, Dr. Lindsay Hickerson of Richmond, VA; a daughter, Sarah Hickerson of Bedford; two grandsons, Ethan Aubery and Preston Mosqueda both of Bedford; a brother, David Hickerson and wife, Ellen of Chicago, IL; a sister, Sandi Jordan and husband, Joe of Hot Springs, AR; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian, and former wife, Charlene.

Lucille M. Young

Lucille M. Young, 92, Bedford, passed away at her residence on Oct. 25, 2011.

She was born April 5, 1919, in Henderson, Iowa and was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lula Wilkinson; brother, Edward McCoy; two daughters, Susan Kay and Judith Ann, and a son, Dennis Moore.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Jack Young; a daughter, Elsie Henry, in Iowa; two sons, Chuck and Jerry Moore, in Florida; five stepchildren, Jackie Butler in Florida, JoAnn Hall in Greenwood, Donna Deckard in rural Bedford, David Young in Salem and Kevin Young in rural Bedford.

Lucille donated her body to science. There will be no memorial service.

Lila Mae Deckard

Lila Mae Deckard, 82, of 1081 Parks Implement Road, Mitchell, formerly of the Guthrie community, died at 6:25 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born May 23, 1929, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Hawkins) Meadows. She married Floyd Deckard on June 13, 1946 and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1993. She was a homemaker, a Pink Lady volunteer at Dunn Hospital and a member of the Gulletts Creek Baptist Church.

William Levi Clemons, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away on Oct. 21, 2011.

He was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Mitchell, and was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lealus Clemons; wives, Hortense and Ethel Clemons; and sisters, Bernice Wigginton and Cassie Swarn.

William, also known as “Speedy,” was a well-known businessman and resident in Bedford. William owned and operated Speedy Auto Laundry Hand Carwash of Bedford and worked for Central Foundry, later known as GM Bedford Powertrain, which he retired from in 1981.

William was a member of Second Baptist Church, Bloomington Elks Club, The Bedford Chamber of Commerce, The National Federation of Independent Business Inc., and the UAW Local No. 440.

William is survived by nieces, Anna (James) Litzy, Lauretta Robinson and Sandra Franklin; nephew, Richard Swarn; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Larry W. “Bare” Randolph, 68, of Bedford, died at 11:29 p.m. on Sunday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Sept. 15, 1943, in Shoals, he was the son of James O. and Lucille (Tow) Randolph. He married Rita (Clark) Wright on Nov. 4, 1967, and she survives.

He retired from General Motors and was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, of Bedford; a son, Donny Wright and wife Rona of Bedford; a daughter, Robyn Williams of Bloomington; grandchildren, Danielle Wright, D.J. Wright and Carlie Williams; two sisters, Debra Ritter and husband Jerry of Springville and Sherry Perkins and husband Jerry of Camby; a brother, Jim Randolph and wife Linda of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

Born June 26, 1931, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Elmo and Eula (Knowling) Hackney. She married Ralph “Dew” Thompson on Jan. 27, 1956, and he survives.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Fort Ritner United Methodist Church.

Survivors include, her husband, Dew, of Fort Ritner; one daughter, Deanna Thompson of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Betty Horner of Bedford, one brother, Dick Hackney and wife Sue, of Fort Ritner; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Billy Hackney.

Kermetta Lynn Stine, 60, of Orleans, died Saturday at Paoli Health and Living Community in Paoli.

She was born Sept. 24, 1951, in Bedford the daughter of Kermit and Betty Hall Stine.

She was employed in health care and worked several places for many years.

Kermetta is survived by five brothers, Alvin Andrews Jr. of Clinton, Texas, Thomas (Rita) Andrews of Paoli, Stephen Stine and his companion, Ruby Reynolds of Bedford, Robert Stine and his companion, Karen Cooper of Orleans, and Barry Stine of Bedford; and four sisters, Barbara Sloan of Mitchell, Becky (Jack) Holt of Shoals, Virginia Reynolds of Orleans and LaKeita (Richard) Hopper of French Lick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Danny Stine and brother-in-law, Richard Reynolds.

Vivian I. (Burkett) Stanger, 89, Martinsville, passed away at 7:48 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011, surrounded by family members at The Waters of Martinsville.

She was born on Monday, April 3, 1922, in Martinsville, Indiana to the late Griffith L. and Dessie E. (Manley) Burkett.

Vivian was first married to Richard Reynolds Blunk in 1943 and he was killed in combat during WWII. She then married Adrain C. Stanger on February 14, 1946, and he survives.

She was a graduate of Martinsville High School with the class of 1940. She was a homemaker and had worked in the cafeteria for the MSD of Martinsville. She was a member of the Martinsville Baptist Tabernacle and a past member of the Good Sams Camping Club. She enjoyed traveling, camping, sewing, crocheting, knitting and her flowers.

Other survivors include sons, Richard R. Blunk and wife Marsha, of High Ridge, Missouri, Robert S. Blunk and wife Lisa, of Mooresville, Adrain Thomas Stanger, of Martinsville, Shannon K. Stanger and wife Lisa, of Springville, and Kip A. Stanger and wife Monique, of Martinsville; daughter, Melissa R. Gladson and husband Jeff, of Bloomington; sisters, Mary Rose Walker, of Frankfort, Frances Davis, of Bedford, and Shirley Lockman, of Plainfield; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Born March 12, 1933, in Blankenship (Lawrence Co.), he was the son of the late Otho and Addie Mae (Smoot) Smith. He married Norma Mosier on May 8, 1963, in Lawrenceville, Ill., and she survives.

He was employed by his father at Hi-Q-Lo-P in Bedford and retired from Yellow Freight Trucking.

He enjoyed riding horses and spending time with family.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 750 F&AM in Oolitic.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School and Indiana University. She was a member of the IU Alumni Association.

Anthony ‘Pat’ Murphy

One of the most giving men a person could ever know, went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2011. Anthony Pat Murphy, 66, Bedford, was killed in an auto accident on Monday. He left behind an uncountable amount of friends and a family who will dearly miss him.

Pat was born on April 21, 1945, to Charles and Evelyn (Elkins) Murphy.

His family members included Connie Murphy of Bedford, to whom he was married for 40 years, and remained close friends; his son, Mark Murphy and wife Tammy of Bedford, son, Pat Murphy and wife Melissa of Bedford; daughter-in-law, Paula Murphy of Mitchell; granddaughters, Kayla Murphy, Emily Murphy, Nicole Sosh, Erin Murphy, Katie Murphy, all of Bedford, and Kyann Terrell of Mitchell; grandsons, Charlie Murphy, Connor Sosh, Ian Murphy, Andrew Murphy, and Jacob Murphy, all of Bedford; and two great-grandsons, Charley and Colt Ikerd of Bedford.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Evelyn Murphy; his son, Matthew Murphy; and one brother, Richard “Dick” Murphy.

Pat was a retired homebuilder who spent most of his time under the produce tent at Johnny’s Junxions. He would work inside the store two days a week as cashier and was well known for his smile and for his occasional line, “You will just have to slow down, I am an old man don’t you know.”

Pat gave to people in so many ways. He loved to give and even if he had just met you he would give you the shirt off his back. He never gained earthly riches, he gave most of it away, but he had more than money could ever buy. He had a family and group of friends that loved him and knew that if they were in need big or small, Pat Murphy would always be there to help. Words can not express how much he will be missed!

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Crossroads Community Church, with Brother Ken Ranson and Brother Kenny Dalton officiating, Cremation was chosen, a celebration of Pat’s Life will be from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Sycamore Room at 2407 16th St. in Bedford, across from the Medicine Shoppe.

Dennis L. Dalton, 55, of Bedford, passed away at 9:37 p.m. on Sunday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Dennis was born in Bedford on Jan. 28, 1956, to Walter & Evelyn (Fish) Dalton,

Dennis worked many years on the CP Railroad, and he was a railroad engineer.

Dennis is survived by three sons, Clint Dalton, Colt Dalton and Cade Dalton, all of Jasonville; two brothers, Kerry Dalton and wife Suzanne of Bedford, and Louie Dalton of Bedford; several nieces and nephews; and his companion, Cindy Chandler of Bedford.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Dalton and Evelyn Dalton; and a sister, Sharon Sons.

Cremation was chosen, and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Ethel Mae Wade, 86, of Shoals, died at 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born June 1, 1925, in Williams, she was the daughter of Munson D. and Grace (Williams) Gee. She married George H. Wade on Jan. 8, 1944, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2007.

She retired from NWSC Crane and RCA. She was a member of the Mount Olive Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Dean Wade and wife Leondra of Mitchell, Tommy Lee Wade and wife Elaine of Orleans and Ronald Gene Wade of Shoals; seven grandchildren, Travis Wade, Misty Axsom, Kim Hicks, Meranda Henderson, Jonus Wade, Scott Wade and Brian Wade; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, George Robert and Benny Wayne Wade; two sisters, Marybelle Owens and Edell Parks; one brother, Cecil Gee; and a grandson.

Warren G. Petty

Dec. 19, 1920 — Oct. 18, 2011

Warren G. Petty, age 90, who was a Prisoner of War for almost 3 1/2 years, retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years, and was a former Chief of Police at Paoli, died at 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday at the Bliss House in Bedford.

Warren was born in Paoli, in Orange County, on Dec. 19, 1920, to the late James and Dessie Pearl (Wininger) Petty. He married Martha Cooper on Dec. 23, 1945, and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2008.

After attending Paoli High School, he joined the U.S. Navy on April 6, 1938. He served three years on a ship in the Philippine Islands prior to the outbreak of World War II.

On May 6, 1942, Warren was captured on Corregidor, along with many others.

A month prior, his crew sank their sub tender, the U.S.S. Canopus, to keep the Japanese from taking it. He was first held Prisoner of War in the Philippines, then taken to Oska, Japan, in 1944. He was released by the Japanese on September 12, 1945, at the close of the war.

He served in various offices and attended several schools after the war. He retired from the U.S. Navy on December 20, 1957, with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

Upon returning to Orange County, he was employed at Orleans Farm Supply for seven years, and three years at Robbins & Apple Plumbing and Heating, in Paoli.

In 1968, Warren was hired as Chief of Police for the Town of Paoli, and served the town as their Chief for nearly 16 years. He later came out of retirement, and was in charge of the Paoli Jaycee Park.

He was known by all family members, as well as all who read his granddaughter’s weekly newspaper column, as “Pap.” Many in Paoli called him “Chief,” in reference to his law enforcement service to their community.

Warren was a member of the Paoli First Baptist Church.

He was honored with the POW Medal, which was established by Congress in 1986. He wore the award very proudly. Warren also received the Bronze Star. He served his country, and his town, with much honor and dignity.

Survivors include two daughters, Joy Deckard and husband, Stephen A., of Shoals, and Sara Whitfield, of Paoli; three grandchildren, Joseph Haworth and his wife Amy of Bedford; Wesley Whitfield and his wife Tyla of Paoli; and Audra Petty Deckard, of Shoals. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jaydon and Madison Haworth, of Bedford, and Camley Reece Whitfield, of Paoli.

He was preceeded in death by two sisters, Gladys Gregory and Bess Lashbrook.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the McAdams Mortuary, in Paoli, with Jim Babcock officiating the service.

Visitation will be from 4-8- p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary.

Burial will be made in the Paoli Community Cemetery, in Paoli.

Marsha E. Sowders

Dec. 21, 1947 — Oct. 17, 2011

Marsha E. (Nunn) Sowders, 63, of Bloomington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday.

Marsha was born Dec. 21, 1947, in Lawrence County, the daughter of John and Violet (Deckard) Nunn. Marsha graduated from Needmore High School with the class of 1965.

Shortly following high school she began working for Ivy Tech Vocational College in the business office and book store.

Marsha moved to Gulf Port, Miss. where she stayed until Hurricane Katrina forced her to move back to Indiana to be close to her daughter.

Marsha looked forward every year to attending the Covered Bridge Festival. She was enjoying a day at the festival with her daughter when she became ill.

Marsha is preceded in death by her parents and half brother Larry Stancombe.

Marsha is survived by her daughter. Michelle “Shelly” McWilliams and husband Kevin of Bloomington.

Marsha had requested to be cremated with no services at this time.

Leroy Dale “Lee” Covey, 87, of Linton, went to meet his Heavenly Father Sunday at the Glenburn Home in Linton.

Born July 30, 1924, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Dee and Amanda Covey.

He was a carpenter with Carpenters Local union No. 1664. He was a member of Tunnel Hill Pentecostal Church.

He was a good husband, dad and grandpa who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Eva Goggins Covey, of Linton, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1987; one daughter, Joann East, of Ellettsville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard E. and Connie Covey of Norman, David and Rene Covey of Heltonville and Rob and Liz Covey of Bloomington; four stepchildren, Rhuanelta Rose of Linton, Kenny Goggins and wife Teresa of Linton, Ronnie Goggins and wife Marilyn of Duggar and Rick Goggins and wife Kay of Portage; one daughter-in-law, Kay Covey, of Springville; 31 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Maxine (Roby) Covey; two sons, Thomas and Kenny Covey; one daughter, Kathy English; one grandson, Kenny Dale Covey Jr.; one great-grandchild, Heather Gardener; three brothers; and three sisters.

Paul Eugene Reed, age 68, of Bedford, died at 5:26 p.m. on Saturday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington.

Born Nov. 12, 1942, in Fort Ritner, he was the son of Cecil H. Reed and Katherine (Carter) Reed. He married Mary Spaulding on May 21, 1966, and she survives.

He was a welder, and was most recently employed with E&M Tool, until becoming disabled.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mitchell.

She was a homemaker. She was of the Christian faith. She attended Bedford North Lawrence High School.

John D. Hammersley, 64, of Bedford, passed away on October 13, 2011, at 11:24 p.m. at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

He was born on June 26, 1947, to Mildred J. (Brazzell) Hammersley in Lawrence County. He attended school at Oolitic; he played basketball, baseball and ran track in high school. He loved watching wrestling on TV; he did photography in Lawrence County.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy (Cooper) Hammersley, of Bedford; his children, Gina Pridemore and husband Joe, of Bedford, Laura Frazier and husband Eric, of Evansville, and April Straughn and husband Kenneth, of Kentucky; and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother; brother, William (Bill) Brazzell; and one son, Michael Hammersley.

Funeral services will be on Monday October 17, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Guide Pointe Church at 527 15th St. in Bedford.

Carroll Dean “Deno” Roberts, 84, of Bedford, died Thursday, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born June 28, 1927, in Bedford, he was the son of Tom and Laura Roberts. He married Patricia A. Nickless on Oct. 7, 1960, and she survives.

He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Japan. He drove his tractor in the Bedford Fourth of July parade for the past 13 years.

He was a good husband, dad and grandpa who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Patricia, of Bedford; two daughters, Sheila Davis and husband Jim of Bedford and Sandy Waterford of Bloomington; three sons, John Roberts of Bloomington, Randy Hatfield and Brian Roberts, both of Bedford; 12 grandchildren, Carl, Jeremy and Brandon (Dusty) Vincent, Jimmy and Joey (Tammy) Davis, Jeana (Stephen) Godsey, Courtney, Zackery and Tyler Roberts, Tasha Baxter, Audie Caudill, Emily; 23 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Joe Roberts and wife Patty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mike Roberts; three brothers, Carl, Glen and Harrell Roberts; and two sisters, Mary and Frances.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Jim McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.

He retired from C.A.A.A. Crane.

He was a graduate of Mitchell High School and also attended Northwood Institute in West Baden.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and attended Fairview Community Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was a book author and published magazine articles. He was a long-time artist.

Survivors include his parents, the Rev. Carl T. and Thelma Brown of Mitchell; one son, Justin Lee Brown of Mitchell; one sister, Sharon (Darryl) Bowden of Greenwood; four brothers, Larry T. (Christy) Brown, Denzil (Rita) Brown, Daniel Brown, and Mike (Sherry) Brown, all of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol Louise (Sprow) Jones, 54, of Bedford, formerly of Defiance, Ohio, went to be one of God’s angels, surrounded by her family and friends on Monday.

Born Jan. 8, 1957, in Defiance, she was the daughter of Jack and Justine (Schackow) Sprow. She was a die cast assembler at General Motors with 29.1 years of service. She was a member of the Defiance Christian Church in Defiance; a member of UAW Local No. 440 and past member of UAW Local No. 211. She was a current and past UAW officer serving on the education committee, women’s committee and served on the executive board as trustee and CAP; and she was a member of Women on Wheels (WOW).

She was an avid antique collector. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, music and singing. She raised English Bulldogs and was involved in the Bullieangels bulldog rescue. She worked with the humane society and was loved by many.

Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Green of Bedford; two grandsons, Alec Green and Bryce Banks, both of Bedford; her English Bulldogs, Louie and Ollie; her special friend, Tom May of Bloomington; her mother, Justine Sprow of Defiance, Ohio; two sisters, Cathy Richard and husband Lenny of Lima, Ohio, and Mary Hutchinson and husband Ralph of Sonoma, Calif.; three brothers, Jeff Sprow and wife Anna of Stryker, Ohio, Steve Sprow and wife Mindy of Wauseon, Ohio, and Dan Sprow and wife Charlene of Ayersville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral service will be at noon on Oct. 19 at the Defiance Christian Church in Defiance, Ohio. Cremation will follow.

Deborah Lynn Williamson Cook passed away on Oct. 5 at the age of 64 in Paradise Valley, Ariz., from breast cancer.

She was born on April 7, 1947, to Arnold and Lois (Hendrix) Williamson in Bloomington.

She was raised in Bedford and graduated from Shawswick High School in 1965. She spent most of her life raising her family in St. Paul, Minn., and later moved to Tucson, Ariz.

She loved cooking for and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her parents, Lois and Arnold Williamson of Bedford; her husband, Dan Cook; a son, Michael Conley; a daughter, Melissa Chouinard and husband Jason; grandchildren, Tabatha, Arabella and Sophia Chouinard and Preston Conley; a sister, Connie Ray and husband Bill; two brothers, Mike Williamson and Mark Williamson and wife Peggy; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Erwin “Lee” Root, 87, Bloomington, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born Feb. 12, 1924, in Mitchell, he was the son of Ernest Lee and Helen Gladys (Erwin) Root. He married Rosabel Baker Sept. 13, 1946, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 27, 2000. His second marriage was to Lois (Melvin) Slaughter Kendall on Dec. 3, 2005.

He was an electrical engineer, graduated from Tri-State College, and retired from Indiana University. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1942, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mitchell and the Experimental Aviation Association, Bloomington Chapter. In the 1950s he was a photographer and engraver for the Daily Herald-Telephone.

Lee was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Root of Orleans; daughter, Virginia Fay Boshears and husband Ron of Avon; son, Nathan Erwin Root and wife Carol of Kokomo; stepchildren, Brent Slaughter and wife Karen of Orleans, Adrian Slaughter and wife Angie of Mitchell and Lana Hudelson and husband Danny of Orleans; four grandchildren, Jacki (Jessie) Myers, Jennifer (Greg) Parrish, Heather (Matt) Smalley and Zac (Terri) Root; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hayley, Hunter, Holden, Ashlyn, Lucy and Carly; and seven stepgrandchildren, Brett (Barbie) Hudelson, Darren Hudelson, Trent Slaughter, Kara Jean Slaughter, Jason (Leslie) Slaughter, Jodie (Kyle) Endris and Lindsey (Nick) Doub; sister, Darlene Dalton of Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Root of Mitchell.

Muriel F. Anderson, 86, Springville, died at 2:25 p.m. on Friday at her residence.

She was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Chicago, the daughter of Homer E. and Margaret (Johnston) Newell. She married William H. “Bill” Anderson on Aug. 1, 1945, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1999.

She attended the Free Methodist Church in Bedford. She served her precious Lord in prison ministry for 36 years and held a Bible study at the Lawrence County Jail for more than 28 years.

Harry Bernard Magers, 83, of Bedford, passed away on Friday October 7, 2011, at 3:10 p.m. at Mitchell Manor Nursing Home. He was born October 23, 1927, in Lawrence County to William and Carolyn (George) Magers.

Surviving are three sons, Barry, Jahn and Danny, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Lana Lyons.

Harry was a retired truck driver from RCA in Bloomington with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Union #135 in Indianapolis, US Army Veteran, member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club, and member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Bedford. Harry loved and was involved in local racing for many years as a driver and car owner.

Funeral services will be on Monday October 10, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home.

She was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Martin County, the daughter of Otto and Matilda (Fuhrman) Harder. She married Delbert L. Boyd on Nov. 30, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1956. She then married Kenneth W. Sanders on Aug. 16, 1962, and he survives.

She was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee. She attended Bateman and Shoals Community Schools.

Ruby enjoyed attending church, bowling, and loved scenic drives on highways and country roads.

Surviving with her husband, Kenneth of Shoals; are one daughter, Linda and Tom Cannon of Kokomo; three sons, Gary L. and Donna Boyd of Springville, Delbert Dale and Trish Boyd of Trinity Springs and Robert Paul Boyd of Trinity Springs; one stepdaughter, Thelma Lou and Don Swor of Anthony, Fla.; one brother, Paul and Fern Harder of Shoals; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; one son, Larry Dean Boyd; and one granddaughter, Christa R. Boyd.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. Burial will be in Goodwill Cemetery.

Marcia D. Robinson, 79, Bedford, died at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Sept. 29, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Everett and Mary (Cross) Davisson. She married John Norman in May of 1987, and he survives.

She retired from Kmart in Anderson after 20 years of service. She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was a member of the Lawrence County Art Association. She was a watercolor artist and lover of nature. No sunset escaped her. She loved to travel and liked the Blues.

Surviving with her husband, John, of Bedford; are one daughter, Dixie Clark of Daleville; one son, Todd (Kris) Robinson of Muncie; five grandchildren, Kara Cantrell of Daleville, Kandace Robinson, Kyanne Robinson and Kinsey Robinson, all of Muncie and Justin Clark of Knoxville, Tenn., two great-grandchildren, Eli and Noah Cantrell of Daleville; one sister, Sylvia (Ron) Davis of Sand Springs, Okla.; three brothers, Davey (Mary Ellen) Davisson of Pittsburgh, Pa., Denver (Frances) Davisson of Sulphur Springs, Tenn., and Jim Woolums of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Michael Terry.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ballard & Sons Funeral Home in Daleville. Burial will be in the Saunders Cemetery in Daleville.

Jarrod William Barrow, 26, of Cleveland, Ohio, died on Oct. 3 as the result of an automobile accident.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran with three deployments to Iraq serving as a Medic and receiving a Purple Heart.

Amy L. Brummett, 58, of Springville went to be with our Heavenly Father Thursday morning surrounded by her family following a long illness.

She started working at Haag’s Drug store then moved on to the Bloomington Police department dispatch where she worked for 33 years.

She was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church, Delta Theta Tau, XINU chapter of Owensburg. She was a 1971 graduate of Eastern Greene High School. Amy was loved by all and will be missed by her family and friends

Surviving relatives include: siblings, Diana (Donnie) McCloud, Linda Kidd and Bill (Jessica) Brummett all of Owensburg; nieces and nephews, Debbie (Fred) Wright of Bloomfield, Dwane McCloud of Bloomfield, Danny (Sherry) McCloud of Bedford and Tonya (Roy) Jones of Owensburg; great-nieces and nephews, Delaine (Adam) Brown of Springville, DeLisa McCloud of Linton, Darren McCloud of Bedford, Dawn Jessica McCloud of Florence, Alabama, Dalton McCloud of Bedford and Dale Jones of Owensburg; three great-great-nieces and three great-great-nephews.

She was the daughter of Frank and LaVera Brummett who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Roger Brummett, a brother-in-law, Melvin Kidd and two nephews.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Kenneth Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Owensburg cemetery.

James E. Mosier Sr.

James Edwin Mosier Sr., 84, Eureka, died Wednesday at his home.

Born April 27, 1927, in Vigo County, he was the son of Lawrence and Irma Frances Wagner Mosier. He married Rachel Rosetta Lewis Nov. 2, 1947, in Lawrence County and she preceded him in death July 26, 2003.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Williams High School. He was a long distance truck driver for many years working for Roscoe Bartlett Trucking and Kern Trucking. He and his wife owned and operated Mosier Trucking for several years. He was a heavy equipment mechanic on road construction for Burns Construction and Sargent Brothers Construction. He operated Mosier’s Garage in Williams and later moved the operation to Eureka. He was a damage appraiser for Southern Indiana Damage Appraisals of Bedford and ran Southern Indiana Salvage in Eureka. At the time of his death, he owned and operated Mosier’s Dozing of Eureka. He raised and trained black and tan hunting dogs and traveled to dog shows and hunts for several years.

Surviving are one daughter, Juanita K. Mosier of Mitchell; two sons, James E. Mosier Jr. and wife Lydia of Eureka and Richard L. Mosier and wife Melinda of Mitchell; one daughter-in-law, Linda Payton of Bloomington; grandchildren, C. Renee Tyler and husband Larry of Orleans, Robert Payton and wife Elsie of Ellettsville, Kevin Mosier and wife Mindy of Mitchell, Ronald Turner of Mitchell, Randy Turner and wife Bea of Mitchell, Richard Payton of Austin Texas, Rachel Roach of Mitchell, Robin Sanders of Ellettsville, Reggie Johnson and wife Carrie of Mitchell, Darin Mosier and wife Andrea of Bedford, Heather Patterson and husband Ryan of Shawswick, David Mosier of Mitchell, Kristin Hillenburg and husband Justin of Eureka, Julia Johnson and Harley Rutherford of Orleans; step granddaughters, Renita Ludwig and husband Jerry of Orleans and Patty Bush of Marengo; several great-grandchildren including, Mandy Hess and husband Ricky of Salem, who grew up in the home and several great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Merle Mosier and wife Mary of Williams; three sisters-in law, Dorothy Mosier of Bedford, Jewell Mosier of Bedford and Bonnie Gabbard of Terre Haute; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife; he was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Payton, one great-grandson, Joshua Johnson,; two sisters, Virginia Catt and Mariea Wright; and five brothers, Wayne, William, Lawrence Jr., Robert and Earl Mosier.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville with the Rev. Richard Kendell officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Ebbie was disabled and had formerly worked at the Lawrence County Highway Department.

Meryle Elaine Keltner, 89, passed peacefully from this earth the morning of Oct. 3, at her residence in Union City. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday on Nov. 23.

She was preceded in death by her adoring husband, John L. Keltner; her mother Laura E. Heffern Braatz; her father Eldred C. Heffern; and two brothers, Ronald Heffern and E. Charles (Bud) Heffern; in addition to several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her son, John L. (“Jack” and Becky) Keltner of Bedford; her daughter, Judy Brewer of St. Marys, Ohio; her son-in-law Steve (Jackie) Brewer; and her beloved grandchildren, J. Lloyd Keltner, Jonathan Keltner, Jacey Keltner-Hall, Steve (Lauren) Brewer of Union City, Tim (Stephanie) Brewer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Laura Brewer of Everett, Wash. Other survivors include her great-grandchildren Jordan, Samantha, Hannah, Taylor, Sydney, Derek, John III, Jacob, Katlyn, Ryan, Lauryn, as well as her sister-in-law, Phyllis Heffern (Cathy and Craig) of Falls Church, Va.

Born in Harvey, Ill., Meryle moved to Union City with her husband and children in the summer of 1953. Except for a few years living in Winchester, she lived in Union City until her death.

She was a member of the Union City Church of the Brethren, where she was active in Sunday school, Bible School, church choir, and a variety of church activities and committees. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Omega in Union City.

In addition, she was the Administrative Secretary to the Plant Manager at Westinghouse Electric in Union City until her retirement.

She loved her family, reading, art, music, dancing, her work, and her friends. She lived life with great passion.

Meryle will be remembered fondly for her brilliant mind, her amazing imagination and vision, and her incredible artistic talent, a natural-born gift that blossomed even more over the years.

Meryle will be sorely missed by her family and friends, but welcomed home by her loving husband.

There will be no calling hours or services.

Born Nov. 11, 1959, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Jerry Barrett, Patricia Flynn and Larry Hoff. She married Dwayne L. Koontz on Oct. 2, 1993, and he survives.

She was a homemaker.

Madylene Mowery, 91, of Bedford, died at 11:55 a.m. on Sunday at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bedford.

Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Joseph and Lula (Beal) Anderson. She married James Roach, Harold Mowery and Herman Harris, all of whom preceded her in death.

She retired from NWSC Crane as a computer program manager.

Survivors include a son, Jim “Jimmy” Roach and friend, Carol Hedrick of Bedford; grandchildren, Randy Roach and fiancé Ginger Kern, and James “Jay” Roach and wife Shannon; great-grandchildren, Matthew Roach, Zach Roach, Tasheena Roach, Jacob Roach and Hiley Roach; great-great-grandchild, Kelan Roach; her former daughter-in-law, Barbara Roach; and several nieces and nephews.

He retired from the National Gypsum Company.

He lived many years at Blue Springs where he enjoyed his favorite sport, fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul “Pete” Edwards; one sister Pearl Acton; and brother-in-law, Willard “Bud” Tackett.

He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by sister and best friend, Lucille Tackett; his daughter, Gweneth Hubbard and husband Archie of Bristol, Va.; sons, David P. Edwards and wife Debbie of Bedford and Timothy Edwards of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He will be sadly missed by his special nephew, Brian Tackett and son Lincoln; special nieces, Paula Parsons, Gloria Pridemore, and Melissa Shaw; and good friends, Bob Stearns, Ronetta Hopper and Nadine Thomas.

She was a member of the Bedford Baptist Temple, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Born Nov. 17, 1922, in Washington, she was the daughter of Edwin W. and Ethel (Davis) Greenwood. She married Edward W. Brewer on Oct. 4, 1946, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1998.

She was an office clerk at N.W.S.C. Crane for 35 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford. She had volunteered at the Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Beth Owen and husband Steve of Ft. Glenna Wintersteen

Glenna Frank Waldman Wintersteen, age 83, formerly of Bedford, died at Brookdale Senior Living in Midland, Mich., on Sept. 21.

She was born Glenna Louise Frank on Feb. 2, 1928, to Glenn “Fritz” Claris Frank and Florence Ethel Ellis Frank in Bedford. She married Jean L. Ryan, a nuclear physicist, in 1947. They divorced in 1960.

Glenna attended Indiana University, graduating in 1950 and obtained a Master’s Degree in Political Administration in 1963. She worked as Editor and Program Assistant in the Institute of Training for Public Service in the Department of Government. While at IU, she interacted often with visitors from India, Thailand, and many African nations who were taking workshops or seminars to help their nations become democracies.

After graduation she worked as an instructor on the faculty in the Bureau of Government at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. While at Wisconsin, she met and married Bernard Waldman, a nuclear physicist on leave from the University of Notre Dame on March 21, 1964. The family returned to the South Bend area where Bernie became Assistant Dean and then Dean of the College of Science in 1965.

The couple traveled throughout the world making many trips to Europe, the Caribbean, South America, the Soviet Union, and China early after it opened to the Western world. The couple retired to Sanford, N.C., in 1984 and upon the death of her husband, Glenna remarried. Glenna relocated to Southern Pines, N.C., and then to Midland, Mich., in 2005.

Glenna is survived by a sister, Susan Jane Frank of Roseville, Minn.; daughters Tawny Ryan Nelb and husband Robert Nelb of Midland, Mich., Sharon Ryan Wolcott and husband James of Surprise, Ariz., and Nancy Melcher of Acworth, Ga.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at the University of Notre Dame and a celebration event will be held later in Sanford, N.C.
