Nadine Kinser

March 7, 1920 — Sept. 29, 2011

Nadine R. Kinser, 91, formerly of Mitchell, passed away on Thursday.

Born March 7, 1920, in Crawford County, she was the daughter of Joseph Thomas and Opal (McDonald) Riley. She married Arthur R. Kinser Nov. 26, 1938, and he preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1973.

She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Nadine graduated from Orleans High School in 1938 and was a charter member of Mitchell First Church of God. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Seymour and Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Don Ragsdale of Bloomington, Jacqueline and Dan Drummond of Seymour and Jayne and Greg Hillan of Greenwood; son-in-law, Bill Tritle, Mitchell; grandchildren, Traci (Chris) Bell, Bill Tritle, Deann (Stan) Hawley, Michael (Julia) Drummond, and J.R. (Kristin) Drummond; and great-grandchildren, Amber and Terra Tritle; Peyton, Riley, and Samuel Drummond.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jo Tritle; granddaughter, Terri (Tritle) Meadows; great-grandson, Job Drummond; and sisters, Mildred Bates and Marie Trout.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mitchell First Church of God with the Rev. Roland Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Chastain Funeral Home in Mitchell, and from 10 a.m. until the service on Monday at the church.

Evelyn L. Tumey

Feb. 15, 1913 — Sept. 28, 2011

Evelyn Louise Tumey, 98, of Bedford, died at 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday at her residence.

Born Feb. 15, 1913, in Williams, she was the daughter of Hershel and Gladyeth (Ferguson) Bowman. She married John W. Tumey and he preceded her in death in 1987.

She was a homemaker and a Red Cross volunteer. She was a member of the Woodville Baptist Church, the White Cross and Women’s Temperance Society.

Survivors include a son, John T. Tumey of Bedford; a brother, Welbon Bowman of Goshen; two grandchildren, Karen Elaine Butler and husband Jerry of Mitchell and Brian Scott Tumey and wife Becky of Bedford; three great-grandchildren, Jeremy Scott Tumey, Kalee Faith Butler and Kylee Hope Butler; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Donald Earl and Miles Eugene Tumey; five brothers, Gail, Miles, Orley, Buck and Arnold Bowman.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Travis Inman officiating. Burial will follow in the Church of Christ Cemetery in Williams. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service on Saturday, at the mortuary.

Vernon Moody Jr.

Vernon L. Moody Jr., 67, Mitchell, passed away at 3 a.m. Tuesday at his residence.

Born March 26, 1944, in East St. Louis, Ill., he was the son of Vernon Leland Moody Sr. and Thelma E. (Lester) Moody.

He was a truck driver and a member of Avoca Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Tracy (Kenneth) Tuell of Mitchell; son, Thomas (Tiffany) Moody of Judah; grandchildren, Mitchell, Tory and Trinity Moody; great- granddaughter, Victorya Moody; and brothers, Charles Moody and Richard Moody, both of Illinois.

His parents, Vernon Sr. and Thelma Moody; sister, Rebecca Moody; and niece, Tina Moody, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Doug Martin officiating.

Bobbie D. Turpen

Oct. 22, 1935 — Sept. 25, 2011

Bobbie Dean Turpen, 75, McLeansboro, Ill., passed away Sunday.

Bob was born at home on Oct. 22, 1935, in Pleasant Run Township in Lawrence County to Roy and Lois Marie (Hubbard) Turpen. Bob graduated from Oolitic High School in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army as a chaplin’s assistant from 1958-1960.

Bob worked as a meat cutter in several grocery stores and was a meat salesman for Stark & Wetzel Co. for several years. He moved to St. Francisville, Ill., in 1966 and owned a grocery store, restaurant, gas station and rental properties. He also drove a school bus and prepared taxes.

“Brother Bob” became the Pastor of Emmanuel Tabernacle in St. Francisville in 1966 retiring in 2003. He was active in The Apostolic World Christian Fellowship for over 35 years. He supported Missionaries all over the world and visited several. He was active in International Ministerial Association.

Bob loved to camp, fish, dabble in his own version of the “Antique Roadshow,” watch golf and the Celtics (with Larry Bird) and any news program. He enjoyed meeting and talking with all kinds of people.

While living near Brazil, Ind., he submitted the facts about his and and his twin brother Billie’s birth dates and separate locations to Ripley’s Believe It or Not. They published it in their 50th Anniversary Edition (1968). Joe D. Klumpp, mayor of Bedford, upon hearing their story as Bobbie reached 70, issued a proclamation declaring Oct. 22, 2005 as “Bobbie Dean Turpen Day” and Oct. 23, 2005 as “Billie Gene Turpen Day” in Bedford.

He married Polly Lou Miller of Terre Haute on Dec. 17, 1960.

Surviving with loving wife, Polly are children, James W. (Jane) Turpen, Jay A. (Angie) Turpen, and Pollyanna (Brian) Haeuber; 10 grandchildren, Joshua (Caroline), Jeremy, Jared (Carisa), Jonathan, Jordan (Jennifer), Joanna, Michael Haeuber, Matthew Haeuber, and Leah Haueber; and one great-grandchild, Madison.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his identical twin brother, Billie Gene (1984).

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Emmanuel Tabernacle, 810 Main St., St. Francisville, Ill. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery in St. Francisville.

Dennis Lee Turner

Dec. 20, 1947 — Sept. 25, 2011

Dennis Lee Turner, 63, Oolitic, died at 11:20 a.m. on Sunday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

He was born Dec. 20, 1947, in Bedford, the son of Perry and Gladys (Kelly) Turner. He first married Vickie Sowders and then married Denise Patton on May 1, 1998, in Bedford, and she survives.

He was a retired plasterer.

He was a member of Bethel Country Church, the Oolitic VFW and American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Surviving with his wife, Denise Turner of Oolitic; are one son, Charles Lee (Jennifer) Turner of Bedford; one daughter, Angela Turner Taylor of Heltonville; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Jones of Bedford and Karly Morrow of Oolitic; nine grandchildren, Ashley and Alston Taylor, Brant and Brayton Turner, Jordan Page, Ashley Jones, Kennedy, Emilee and Breanna Morrow; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Franklin Turner.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hanson Cemetery. Graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. Burial will follow.

Following the burial, a memorial service will be in the Hanson Cemetery Shelter House.

Melva Blume Sherfick

June 11, 1922 — Sept. 24, 2011

Melva Blume Sherfick, 89, of Shoals, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 3:25 p.m. on Saturday at Bloomington Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 11, 1922, along with her twin sister, Margaret June, to Noah and Ollie (Jones) Kerns in Martin County near Rusk.

Blume married Howard Sherfick on April 15, 1945. Upon his passing on May 23, 2011, they had been married for 66 years.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Shoals Christian Church. Blume was extremely active and served on several church committees over the years, including missions and the kitchen ministry; however, she most enjoyed being the Nursery Superintendent for many years. She deeply loved the Lord, her church, and her church family.

Blume was an active 50-year member of the Town & Country Home Extension Club, member of the Jug Rox Grandmothers Club, Flower and Garden Club, a former member of the Martin County Fair Board. Blume and her twin sister enjoyed a friendly competition for many years exhibiting flowers and vegetables in the Open Class at the Martin County 4-H Fair.

She loved her flowers, indoors and outdoors. She was an avid gardener and always had a bountiful harvest which she shared with family and friends.

Blume worked at the Shoals Bus Stop for four years during World War II. She then started one of the first actual day care centers in 1946. She cared for many-many children for 30-plus years, and was an accomplished homemaker.

She loved and was very devoted to her family which includes: daughter, Linda June and Richard Hawkins of Shoals; sons, David and Sonja Sherfick of Loogootee and John Daniel and Nancy Sherfick of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Rod (Mimi) Hawkins, Mark (Misty) Hawkins, Lea (Shawn) Cullison, Tamar (Kent) Greenwell, Grant Sherfick, Lynette (Chris) Newman, Evan (Jean) Sherfick, and Mason and Seth Sherfick; and 14 great-grandchildren, Shelby Sands, Ethan Sands, Emily Sands, Ashley Hawkins, Michael Hawkins, Ryan Hawkins, Megan Hawkins, Melanie Hawkins, Cati Greenwell, Sarah Greenwell, Sophie Greenwell, Reagan Sherfick, Everett Sherfick and Crosby Sherfick. She is also survived by her twin sister, Margaret June Hendrix of French Lick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Essie Mae Harder, Grace Fuhrman and Mary Harder; and five brothers, Homer, Oscar, Alton, Ollis and Walter Bert Kerns.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shoals Christian Church. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Lucille Gibson

Lucille Gibson, 97, of Bedford, passed away at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 23, 2011.

She was born February 18, 1914, in Grayson County, Kentucky, to William Volly and Annie Elizabeth (Key) Duvall.

She was the wife of the late Arthur Vincent of Edmondson County, KY, and Elmer Revere Gibson ,who resided in Bedford, IN, until his death in March of 1997.

She had worked at NWSC, Crane, IN, and the Dianna Shop, Bedford, IN.

She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church, Bedford, IN.

Ms. Gibson is survived by one son, Bobby Vincent of Seward, Alaska; one daughter, Brenda Vincent Cantrell of Marietta, GA; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter, Sierra Kenney of Edmondson County, KY.

Ms. Gibson was one of eight children, all of which have preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow at Owensburg Cemetery, Owensburg, IN.

Kenneth Hawkins

Kenneth E. “Kenny” Hawkins, 59, of Bedford, died Thursday at I.U. Bedford Medical Center.

Born April 9, 1952, in Bedford, he was the son of Richard “Jack” and Mary (Starrett) Hawkins. He married Karen Roberts on Oct. 15, 1978, and she survives.

He was a stone cutter at Indiana Limestone Co. and had worked at RCA for 25 years. He was a member of the Laborers Local No. 741 and of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, of Bedford; a daughter, Shannon Jo Rose and husband Jeffrey of Bedford; a granddaughter, Elissa Rose; a grandson, Logan Hawkins; two brothers, Harold Hawkins and wife Rosetta of Bedford and Kenneth Robert Hawkins and wife Jean of Ohio; and a sister, Joyce Totten and husband Charles of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Lindy Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at the mortuary.

Ricky J. Bryant

Ricky James Bryant, age 53, of Pea Ridge Road in Irvine, Ky., passed away Wednesday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born Oct. 10, 1957, in Bedford, the son of Donna Lou Bridwell Goldbach and the late Harry Bryant.

He was a machinist and attended the Baptist Church.

He had lived in Estill County, Ky., for the past 8 years.

He is survived by his mother, Donna Lou Bridwell Goldbach; two daughters, Alexandria Jan Bryant and Sarah Alivia Bryant, both of Pensacola, Fla.; his fiancé, Peggy Turner of Irvine; one sister, Rochelle Hammond of Greenville; and one brother, Randy Bryant of New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Bryant and Roger Dean Keller.

Memorial service were Friday at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel in Irvine.

Mary Juanita (Pickett) Sexson, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday.

She was born May 10, 1923, in Lawrence County, to Thomas and Evalou (Dixon) Pickett. She married Joseph Sexson Jr. on Dec. 31, 1948.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, and her brother, George Pickett.

Mary is survived by one child, Beth (Dale) Smock of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Amanda (Jean) Milesi of Indianapolis and Brian (Christina) Smock of Greenwood; a great-grandson, Jackson Joseph Milesi; cousin, Jo (David) Jones of Lawrence County; niece, Sharon (Randy) Brimberry of Sheridan, Indiana; nephew, Greg (Chris) Pickett of Lawrence County, Indiana; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mary graduated from Tunnelton High School. She worked at Crane Naval Depot and then at Eli Lilly, Inc. in Indianapolis, retiring in 1985 after 38 years.

She was a lifelong member of the Leesville Order of the Eastern Star, and a charter member of the Mary Bryan Chapter of DAR.

A funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at the Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery, Ind. 135 and Olive Branch Road. Burial will be at Talbott Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Monday until service at the funeral home.

Rosie Turpin, 89, of Bedford, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday at White River Lodge.

She was born March 6, 1922, in Casey County, Ky., the daughter of Winfred and Mary Jane (Spaulding) Hatchel. She married Floyd T. Turpin on Aug. 11, 1939, and he preceded her in death in August of 1977.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, William (Loretta) Turpin of Bedford; two grandchildren, Shelly Hostetter of Bedford and Mike Turpin of Terre Haute; six great-grandchildren, Natasha Kinser, Sierra Hostetter, Garrett Hostetter, Alessia Turpin, Alexis Turpin and Jaunathan Turpin; two great-great-grandchildren, Parker and Kingston Marshall; and one sister, Essy Bastin of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and several brothers and sisters.

Flossie E. “Flo” Patton, 66, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord, that she worshipped all her Life, on Tuesday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Flo was born June 7, 1945, in Barboursville, Ky., to John and Ellen (Cobb) Davidson, she attended Bloomfield High School. Flo married Fred “Butch” Patton on March 9, 1963, in Bedford at the home of the Rev. Elmer Patton,

Flo was a homemaker, and had previously worked at NWSC Crane and also at Ford in Bedford. She had attended Full Gospel Churches.

Survivors include her husband, Fred “Butch” Patton of Bedford: her mother, Ellen Davidson of Bedford: three daughters, Ginger Ratcliff and husband Matt of Bedford, Jill Rogers and husband Terry of Bedford, and Shelly Patton-Conard and husband Don of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Neal Matthew Ratcliff, Stuart Ross Ratcliff and wife Kara, Tabin Levi Breedlove, and Taybre Grace Johnson; stepgrandchild, Maggie Conard, step-great-grandchild, Amelia England; and two bothers, William Dallas Davidson and John “Marty” Davidson and wife Sherry, all of Bedford.

Damon A. Hobson, 29, of 415 Victorian Drive, Bedford, died at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at his residence.

Born Sept. 20, 1981, in Paoli, he was the son of Ralph Anthony Hobson and Trena (Brewer) Burks. He was a caretaker.

Survivors include his mother, Trena Burks and stepfather, Raymon D. Burks of Bedford; his fiancé, Sommer Schubert of Bedford; two sisters, Brandy Kinser of Bloomington and Tiana (Terry) Caraway of Springville; one brother, Justin Hobson of Bedford; maternal grandparents, Phillip and Carol Kinser of Springville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, Ronald Brewer.

She was a volunteer tutor for the Adult Literacy Program and was the founder of the Bedford High School Booster Club.

Kenneth E. Cazee, 72, of Ft. Myers, Fla. and formerly of Bedford, passed away at 11 p.m. on Aug. 22, 2011, at his residence.

Born May 18, 1939, in Bedford, he was the son of Carl E. and Helen L. (Jenkins) Cazee.

He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army and later the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Grace of Bedford; two grandsons, Justin Tyler Grace and Jameson Cory Grace; one granddaughter, Stevie D. Grace; two sisters, Mona Bates of Bedford and Karlene D. Giddens of Greenwood; two brothers, Robert Cazee of Bedford and Ronnie Cazee of Deshler, Neb.; four great-grandchildren, Gavyn Tyler Grace, Isabella Danielle Grace, Maddox James Grace and Max Timothy Grace; and his former wife, Suzanne LuAllen Cazee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Reno Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded at the grave by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Wanda F. (Cain) Scott, 73, of Williams, died Thursday in Greenwood. She was born in Bloomington on February 20, 1938, to Dale and Ines (Smith) Cain. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Leonard of Mitchell and Shannon Palmer of Osgood; one brother, Danny Cain of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Rogenia Richardson of Williams and Vivian Hawkins of Sanders; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Thomas Dale Scott; and sister, Ronda Chambers.

Covert Silvers

Covert Silvers, 89, of Bloomington, was born on December the 5th in the year of our Lord 1921. He was born to Leslie and Faye(Flater) Silvers of Bloomfield, Indiana (Greene County). He was an only child. He joined the U.S. Army on October the 23rd of 1942. He served in the Philippines and received three bronze stars along with many other medals. He got out of the military in November the 27th of 1945. He worked at NWSC Crane as a security guard and in Bloomington as a handyman. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge in Bloomington and was also an avid bowler.

He married Norma June Anderson and they had three children. Glen Silvers who died young in a car accident. Sheba Silvers Melton, she also passed away, and Tommie S. Hudson of Monroe County, she survives. He lost his wife, Norma, to the Lord, so he remarried later in life on April 18, 2002 to Norma Smith and she also survives. He has grandchildren, Jayme Deckard, of Heltonville, Crystal Schlock of Greene County, and Rebecca Jones of Brazil Indiana. Amanda Silvers Higgins preceded him in death. He left great-grandkids, Courtney Higgins of Monroe County, Chyane Higgins of Monroe County, Daniel and Dylen Deckard of Heltonville, Carmen and Gage Jones of Brazil, Indiana, Calieb and Corbin Shrock of Greene County. He also had one great-great-grandchild, Annabelle Brown of Monroe County. They all survive him. He had three step-children, Kevin J Spangler of Owen County, Tony Spangler of Marion County, and Brenda Lou Lid of New Mexico. His step-grandchildren are Jacob, Erika and Kalob Spangler of Monroe County and Ashley and Amelia Spangler of Marion County. He also leaves his cat, Pegasus.

He went to be with God at 9 a.m. on Friday on the 16th of September. He wanted to thank everyone who helped take care of him. He appreciated everything they did.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Valhalla Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Mark Norman officiating. The Veterans Honor Guard will perform military rites.

There will no visitation prior to services. Arrangements are being handled by Day Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, Indiana.

Pamela Diane Burch, 60, of Bedford, died at 4:25 a.m. Friday at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born May 6, 1951 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Charles Curtis and Mary Ellen (Kern) Burch.

She worked at RCA in Bloomington and later at the 3-D Store in Bedford, and was later disabled.

She was a 1969 graduate of Fayetteville High School and she attended Oakland City College in Oakland City.

Surviving are one sister, Beverly (Robert) Gray of Indianapolis; two brothers, James “Jim” (Lynn) Burch of Bedford and Greg Burch of Noblesville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Susan Burch.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Bud Smith officiating. Burial will be in Fayetteville Community Cemetery.

Rea Ellis Ray, 81, of Seymour, passed away Friday at Schneck Medical Center.

Born March 11, 1930, in Bedford, he was the son of the Rev. James Floyd and Celia F. (Devers) Ray. On June 25, 1950, at the Trinity Pentecostal Chapel he married Luetta Marie Engelking, who survives.

Mr. Ray was a member of Trinity Pentecostal Chapel. He played the piano at church for over 60 years.

He retired from Cummins after 35 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Stephen (Jane) Ray, David (Mary) Ray, James (Gail) Ray, Mark (Tina) Ray, and Floyd (Robin) Ray; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph (Sally) Ray and John Ray; and sisters, Ula Grey and Yvonne (Ronald) Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rex Ray; sister, Eura Minton; and sister-in-law, Maxine Ray.

Born June 18, 1939, in Oolitic, he was the son of Gilbert and Maxine (Hubbard) Staley. He married Sharon K. Quillen on Oct. 9, 1965, and she survives.

Raymond retired from NWSC Crane where he was an electronics technician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

After the death of his mother in 1963, Raymond raised his brothers and sisters.

Surviving with the wife, Sharon, are; two daughters, Cindy Wade and husband Leroy of Oolitic and Tina Sparks and husband Patrick of Bloomington; two sons, Brian Staley and wife Dinia of Hernando, Miss., and Curt Staley and wife, Misty of Bedford, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers; Tim Staley of Bedford and Jim Staley of Oolitic, and four sisters; Sonia Young of Oolitic, Marilyn Heady of Bedford, Janelle Evans of Florida, and Nancy Stuckey of Kansas.

Terry worked for the Crane Naval Depot in Crane. He had lived in Bedford for the past several years, moving there from Francisco.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and had served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 256 in Oakland City.

He is survived by two sons, Chris Powers (Erica Stoll) of Washington, and Tim Harvey of Washington State; his fiancée, Autum Elwess of Bedford; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine M. Powers in 2001; daughter, Rebecca Harvey; and an infant sister.

Shirley L. Wildman, 73, of Trinity Springs, died at 12:01 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at I.U. Health Bedford.

Born May 17, 1938, in Winfield, Kan., she was the daughter of Elwin Ray and Virginia (Lake) Pickens. She married Warren Wildman on Feb.17, 1957, at the Englewood Baptist Church by James Stevens and he renewed their vows 50 years later.

Shirley founded the Bedford Girls Club and was a longtime board member; she was a car hop at Leonard’s and a homemaker.

She was baptized in the Muscatatuk River in Seymour and attended Midtown Church of Christ. She loved showing horses with her daughter and granddaughters. She was a phenomenal cook, famous for her cookies, enjoyed her garden and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include; her husband, Warren; one son, Warren Lee Wildman Jr. and wife Betsy of Kingston Springs, Tenn., one daughter, Valerie Lynn Gentry and husband Sanford of Bedford; four grandchildren, Catherine (Gentry) Greenwood and husband Ben of Bedford, Nicklas Wildman of Florence, Ala., Amanda Wildman of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Abigail Gentry of Bedford; three sisters, Ruth Walters and Janice Romine, both of Bedford, and Cheryl Tieman of Owensburg; four brothers, Ray Pickens of Danville and Jim Pickens, Joe Pickens, and John Pickens, all of Bedford.

Thelma Jean Strunk, 81 of Avoca, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday.

Born on Dec. 2, 1929, in Muncie, she was the daughter of Otto and Beulah (Wooten) Stogdill. She married Eugene Strunk on Oct. 6, 1947, in Nashville, and he preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker, founding pastor of New Hope Church in Whiteland, and was a pastor’s wife of the Meadows Community Church.

She loved reading her Bible, crafts, painting and sewing.

Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Childers and husband David of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Patricia Edwards and husband Randy of Franklin and Terri King and husband Greg of Springville; one daughter-in-law, Mary Strunk of Whiteland; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth Stogdill, James Stogdill, Joseph Stogdill and Samuel Stogdill; four sisters, Mary Long, Luella Stogdill, Sarah Mullis and Betty Reynolds.

Jessie was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Leesville. She spent her entire life giving loving care to her family.

Jessie liked to hear the old time Gospel songs, and attended Southland Church of Christ.

Jessie is survived by nieces, Shirley Diane (Daniel) Beyers of Bedford and Sylvia (Bill) Greenfields of Columbus; and nephews, David Charles (Rebecca) Crane of Cloverdale and Kenneth (Judy) Fisher of Bedford. Jessie lovingly helped to raise Shirley and David. Many great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

Ula Mae Galloway, 81, of Bedford, passed away at 2:54 p.m. on Sept. 6, at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Born April 20, 1930, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Harry M. and Glydas E. (Spinks) Walker. She married James H. Galloway on Sept. 6, 1948, and he preceded her in death on March 5, 2002.

She retired in 1996 from Visteon of Bedford and worked as a medical assistant for 25 years at the Edgewood Clinic with Dr. Richard Hawkins, Dr. George Sorrells and Dr.’s Mike and Jean Kenrick.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony J. Galloway and Timothy H. (Marlene J.) Galloway all of Bedford; one daughter, Jamie E. Turner of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Christopher W. (Julie) Galloway of McCordsville and Travis C. Turner of Chicago, Ill.; one granddaughter, Carly E. Turner of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Joyce Ann (Steve) Campbell of Worthington; and several other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Doyle W. Walker; and one sister, Helen Marie (Walker) Robling.

Early in life she attended Avoca and Gulletts Creek Baptist Churches and became a member of First Baptist Church of Bedford on March 29, 1964 where she remained. Recently she had attended Community Baptist Fellowship.

She was a member of the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, the Otis Park Ladies Golf Association and a member of Phi Beta Sorority since 1960 raising funds for cancer research. She was also an active volunteer in the community with many church outings, the Dunn “Pink Ladies”, the VA in transporting patients and the American Red Cross as a Blood Donor.

She enjoyed playing golf, was an avid reader, she loved music, antiques and antiquing, flower gardening, attending social gatherings and spending time with her family and many friends. She was most proud of her grandchildren and the fact her three children (Tim, Jamie, Tony) had all graduated from college.

A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. Kregg Burris officiating. A private burial will be in the Leatherwood Christian Church Cemetery.

Phyllis Ann Gilbert, 76, of Oolitic, passed away Tuesday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

She was born July 3, 1935, in Bedford, to Clyde and Mabel (Davis) Pace.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Voy Gilbert, of Oolitic; two sons, Mike (Sheila) Gilbert and Brian (Sharon) Gilbert both of Oolitic; daughter, Teresa (Joe) Boshears of Bedford; grandchildren, Johnny Mike (Lora) Gilbert, Jared (Melissa) Gilbert, Justin Gilbert, Jeremy (Hilary) Gilbert, Jacey Gilbert, Jordan Boshears, Lauren Boshears, and Sara (Brice) Templeton; and great-grandchildren Abby, Isaak, Izabel, Carson, Owen, Jerett, Jaden, Aliza, and Haden.

She is also survived by her brother, Harold (Gene) Pace and his wife Joyce of Bloomington; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Eugene Gilbert; brothers, Clyde Pace Jr., George Pace and Charles Pace; and sister Alice Cronin.

She worked for Visteon in Bedford for 15 years.

She greatly loved and enjoyed her family.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 2 p.m. until the service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Service will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, at the mortuary with the Rev. Richard Tallman and Pastor Jeff Hudelson officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Olga Booker

Olga Booker, 100, died Sunday in the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga.

Mrs. Booker was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Booker and her granddaughter, Carol Landen Wright.

Throughout her life she was a very giving person. In particular she gave many years of volunteer service to the Salvation Army in Bedford.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Glenn Landen of St. Simons, Ga.; her grandson and wife Paul and Carolyn Landen; great-grandchildren, Ben and Mary Landen, Robert and Steve Slupecki; and her great-great-granddaughter, Savana Slupecki.

Her inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Christ Church Columbium on St. Simons Island, Ga.

Lola B. (White) Norman, 91, of Bedford, passed away at 3:23 a.m. on Monday at Johnson’s Christian Village. Born June 21, 1920, in Heltonville, she was the daughter of Walter and Sarah (Fleetwood) White. She married Ermil Norman on Feb. 17, 1940, and he survives.

She was a member of the Central Church of Christ and a past member of the Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include her husband Ermil of Bedford; two sons, Robert L. Norman of Texas and Walter Leroy Norman of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Tracy Brown and Jennifer Warren, both of Fort Wayne, Scott, Darrin and Nicole Norman all of Texas; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lorene Fox and husband Don.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers: Olin White, Ray White and Lloyd White.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Darryl Simon and Jack Byers officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville.

Lucille Randolph, 86, passed away at 10:05 p.m., Friday, at the Johnson Christian Village.

Born on Nov. 23, 1924, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Russell and Mary E. (Hopkins) Tow. Lucille married James O. Randolph in 1942 in Shoals and he preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 2006.

She was a homemaker and a member of the East Oolitic Community Church.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Wayne Randolph and wife Rita of Bedford and Jim Randolph and wife Linda of Bedford; two daughters, Debra Kay Ritter and husband Jerry of Springville and Sherry Lynn Perkins and husband Jerry of Camby; eight grandchildren, Donny Wright, Robyn Williams, Troy Ritter, Trisha Patton, J.R. Randolph, Danielle Todd, Stacy Perkins and Megan Perkins; seven great-grandchildren, Danielle Wright, D.J. Wright, Carlie Williams, Cheaney Ritter, Calie Ritter, Taylor Patton and Riley James Patton; and two sisters, Rosie Hager and Virginia Street, both of Loogootee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Russell and Wilford; and four sisters, Irene, Beatrice, Mamie and Edith.

Aaron Jaye “A.J.” Brinegar, 49, of Bedford, previously of Chicago, Ill., and Oakland, Calif., died at 3 a.m. Friday at his residence.

He was born Nov. 4, 1961, in Bedford, the son of Aaron Jeffery and Valerie (Blochenek) Brinegar. He married Lynn Masterson, who survives and resides in Bedford.

He was a bindery operator at Spectrum Press in Bloomington.

He attended Baker River School in New Hampshire and returned to Bedford to graduate from BNL in 1980 and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford; was an avid lover of nature and had climbed every major mountain in the United States. He was an artist, photographer, painter and bicyclist. A.J. was a die-hard Cubs fan, having lived in Wrigleyville while attending the Chicago Art Institute. He was also a Grateful Dead head, having attended over 100 concerts throughout the country.

Survivors include one son, Andrew Jacob “Andy” Brinegar of Bedford; his father, Aaron J. Brinegar of Bedford; a sister, Emily Rebecca Brinegar of Bloomington; and aunt and uncle, Peri and Dave Combs of Jasper.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Valerie in 2001; his brother, Steve in 2011; paternal grandparents, George and Roxie Brinegar; and maternal grandparents, Casey and Freida Bochenek.

Memorial service will be announced at a later date.

James E. Coulter, 87, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011, at 4:35 p.m. at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford.

James was born on November 17, 1923, in Bedford to Ollie and Lula (Pace) Coulter. James retired from NWSC Crane Army Depot. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII.

Survivors include two sons, Kerry Coulter and his wife Sandra, of Bedford, and James Coulter and his wife Joyce, of Bedford; one daughter, Teresa Tackett, of Bedford; life-long companion and beloved Mary Coulter, of Bedford; one step-son, David Haley, of Bedford; one sister, Betty Lewis, of Williams; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joseph Lake; and three sisters, Naomi, Ruth and Becky.

Mary J. Smith, 90, of Bedford, died at 2:35 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Nov. 1, 1920, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Oscar K. and Elizabeth (Rich) Anderson. She married Charles E. Smith on May 25, 1941, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2003.

She was a homemaker and Sunday School teacher for 15 years. She was the oldest original member of the Englewood Baptist Church joining in 1933.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Reuter and husband Lyle of Bedford; a granddaughter, Julie Reuter of Bedford; a great-grandson, Kyle R. Ollis of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers, Arthur, Kenneth, Richard, Edward, Wayne and Harry Anderson; and one sister, Clara (Anderson) Bartley.

Ethel G. Graves, 97, of Bedford, died at 6:17 a.m. on Thursday at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehab. Center.

Born Feb. 3, 1914, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of James W. and Laura E. (Doane) Blevins. She married Arlie B. Graves on June 17, 1937, and he preceded her in death on July 11, 1979.

She was a homemaker and retired from S.S. Kresge’s and K-Mart stores after thirty years of service. She taught the primary Sunday school class as a teenager at Spice Valley Baptist Church for several years. After her marriage, she taught the primary Sunday school class at the First Church of God for 25 years and was a member of the Women of the Church of God where she served as membership enlistment.

She was a volunteer for the Bedford Regional Medical Center Auxiliary where she served 2000 plus hours.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Peyton of Bedford; a son, David N. Graves and his wife Carolyn of Bedford; two grandsons, Thomas D. Graves and wife Shannon and Jared Graves and wife Kristi; two granddaughters, Betsy Fields and Ronda Peyton and companion John; seven great-grandchildren, Colby and Kendall Graves, Elizabeth and Meghan Anderson, Autumn Ray and husband Gary, and Jack and Benjamin Graves; four great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Flynn, Peyton Flynn, McCall Ray and Maddox Ray; nephews, Eugene Atchison, Ralph Pridemore and Jack Blevins; a niece, Erma Pemberton; and great-nephews, Steve and Scott Blevins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers; and six sisters.

Leroy Logan Ragsdale, 86, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Bedford, died at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday at Sylvia’s House in Ocala.

He was born March 2, 1925, in Orleans, the son of Clifford E. and Lena (Logan) Ragsdale. He married Ruth M. Bosley on June 12, 1949, and she survives.

He was the retired owner of Leroy’s Auto Sales and Leroy’s Mobile Home Sales in Bedford and Pride Estates Mobile Home Park in Bedford.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and American Legion Post No. 33, both in Bedford. He was a disabled U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving with his wife, Ruth M. Ragsdale of Ocala, are two daughters, Linda Goodin of Morehead City, N.C.; and Rita K. Mathews of Ocala, with whom he made his home; one son, Maurice Ragsdale of Northport, Fla.; one brother, Larry Ragsdale of Paoli; one sister, Janet Staton of Fort Myers, Fla.; his stepmother, Mary Ragsdale West of Fort Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren, Darren (Jessica) Fortner and Drew Ragsdale of Bedford, Jeremy (Jaime) Feller of Carmel, Kirstin (Joe) Becker of Fishers, and Chris (Amber) Mathews of Ocala; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Stephen Ragsdale.

Wilahbel M. (Bailey) Todd, 99, of Bedford, died Tuesday morning.

She was born Feb. 23, 1912, in Heltonville. to George and Edna (Stackleather) Bailey. She retired in 1972 from RCA as an assembly line worker. She also worked for Hoosier Uplands, Head Start and delivered meals to Older Americans. She attended Mount Pleasant Christian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy A. Reynolds of Bedford; brother, Rodney and Mary Bailey of Bedford; three sisters, Joyce and Gene Terrell of Newman, Ga., Sue Trusty of Laporte, Texas and Sandy Sheppard of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Ada Bailey of Heltonville; grandson, Mark A. Reynolds of Birmingham, Mich.; three great-grandsons, Zachary C. Reynolds of Elkhart, Lincoln Reynolds of Birmingham, Mich., and Timothy M. Reynolds of Bedford; and two great-great-grandchildren, Thor and Stella Reynolds of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Frank Miller and Alden “Doc” Todd; two brothers, Rex and Charles Lee Bailey; and grandson Michael D. Reynolds.

Delena J. Turner

Delena June Turner, 87, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., tiptoed away on Sept. 3.

Mrs. Turner, known as “Dee” was born on June 18, 1924, in Bedford, to Kermit Paul and Catherine Dillman Smith. She married Paul William Turner on Oct. 6, 1941, at New Albany, and was married to him until he died on Feb. 2, 1985.

Mrs. Turner graduated from Bedford High School in 1941.

During her life, she loved to travel and visited 27 countries around the world. She lived in Abadan, Iran where her husband was in charge of welding operations at the Abadan Oil Refinery. Oak Ridge, Tenn., was also her home for many years. Her children, Jimmie D. Turner and Linda Turner Hamilton, graduated from Oak Ridge High School.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Girl Scouts of America. She was also active in politics. She was an avid lover of all creatures great and small, especially the cats she kept as pets. She liked crocheting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

During her later years, she lived at Frank Callahan Towers and delighted in organizing and cooking for community socials.

She is survived by her son, Jimmie D. Turner and wife Judy McNew Turner of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; and her daughter, Linda Turner Hamilton of Hallandale Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by a son, Tracy Lee Turner who died from spina bifida in his infancy.

She is survived by a brother, Donald DePierre; and sister, Joanne Wray. She was preceded in death by siblings, John Buddy DePierre, Stephen DePierre, Betty Robbins and Madge Smith. She is survived by a cousin who was like a sister, Delores Turner.

She is survived by grandchildren, Joy Turner Vittone and husband William Vittone, Cynthia Turner Lawson and husband Donnie Lawson, Shannon Paul Turner and wife Amanda Turner of Tennessee, Troy Turner Hamilton and wife Gisela Hamilton, Michelle Hamilton Lara and husband Victor Lara of Georgia, and Heidi Hamilton Anderson and husband Eric Anderson of Florida.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Abigail Vittone, Phoebe Paredes, Karly Turner, Zach Turner, Victoria Lara, Christian Salas, Alek Turner, Jacob Vittone, Emilie Hamilton, Madelynn Lara, Matthew Anderson and Colin Lara.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Beth Ann Cook officiating.

Born March 6, 1930, in Iberria, Ky., she was the daughter of Jessie James and Rebecca Ann Logsdon Williams. She married Laymon O’Neal Moutardier on Jan. 5, 1946. She was a homemaker and member of the Old Union Christian Church. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Born Nov. 22, 1945, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Edward Ray and Mary Alice (Turner) Pierce. He married Donna Sue Douglas on Jan. 9, 1965, and she survives.

He retired as a group leader after 33 years at RCA and was a custodian at Indiana University for eight years.

She was born Dec. 9, 2006, in Bloomington, the daughter of Tony and Lindsee (Bailey) Martinez.

She attended Crossroads Preschool and enjoyed Girls Club Gymnastics.

Surviving are her parents of Bedford; a sister, Kennedy Martinez of Bedford; her maternal grandparents, Duane and Dana Bailey of Bedford; her paternal grandparents, David and Anna Martinez of Bedford; aunts and uncles, Nathan and Jessica Bailey, David Martinez, and Heather Flores; cousins, Noah and Jonah Bailey, Cameron and Camden Martinez and Blake Martinez.

Mabel Turpen Fortner, 97, of Bedford, died at 2:40 a.m. Monday, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 18, 1913, in Bedford, the daughter of Emery and Martha (Murphy) Turpen. She married Ralph Fortner in 1931 and he preceded her in death in 1971.

She was a retired assembly worker at Sarkes-Tarzian in Bloomington.

She was a long-time member of the Leatherwood Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Dottie (John) Denny of Bedford; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Muriel Williams of Muncie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Fortner; one son, Darrel Fortner; and one brother, Gene Robert Turpen.

Jonah Lee Grubb, 24, Mitchell, passed away at 11 p.m. Sunday, following an automobile accident.

Born July 22, 1987, in Bedford, he was the son of Ronald Lee and Polly (Sanders) Grubb.

He was employed at American Utilities and was a member of Fishing Creek Chapel and White River Bow Hunters Club.

William H. “Bud” Chastain, 82, formerly of Mitchell, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 1, at Englewood Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Englewood, Fla.

Born Oct. 9, 1928, in Bedford, he was the son of Fred Thomas and Mabel (Compton) Chastain. He married Dorothy M. Cummings in 1948 and she preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1988. His second marriage was to Jeneva Howell.

He retired from General Motors. He was a 1948 graduate of Mitchell High School.

Surviving are his wife, Jeneva Chastain of Englewood, Fla.; daughters, Pamela Sue Moore and Rita Marie Chastain, both of Mitchell, and Lucinda Gay Garceau of Williams; a brother, Jack Chastain of Bedford; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

His parents; daughter, Jamie Ramey; and sister, Betty Mather, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mitchell Cemetery with the Rev. Eric Kersey officiating.

Vince L. Craig, 73, of Bedford, died at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born April 3, 1938, in Silverville, he was the son of Forrest and Zona Pearl (West) Craig. He married Frances G. Riggle on February 16, 1957, and she survives. He worked for Ermal Fultz at Bedford Building Supply and was a carpenter for Charles Hillenburg and Paul Mitchell. He retired as a pipefitter at General Motors after 25 years. He was a member and former deacon at the Silverville Missionary Baptist Church and a member of U.A.W. Local #440. He loved fishing, boating and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, of Bedford; two sons, Barry Craig and companion, Rachael Chastain, of Williams, and Jeffrey Craig, of Bedford; two daughters, Michelle Craig and Kristine Craig and companion, Bruce York, of Bedford; two granddaughters; seven grandsons; six great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; five sisters, Wanda Craig, Doris Conner and Anah Hall and husband, Leonard, all of Fayetteville, Norma Terry and husband, Bill, and Viola Waggoner, his triplet sister, and husband, Loren, all of Silverville; three brothers, Donald Craig, of Needmore, Audra Craig and Edwin Craig, both of Silverville; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kimberly Burnette; two brothers, Lowell Craig and Victor Lantz Craig, who was his triplet brother.

Nancy Jean Fowler, 63, of Bedford, died at 5 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011, at White River Lodge in Bedford.

Born January 25, 1948, in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of Leo and Betty (Tinsley) Fowler. She had worked at the LARC Center in Bedford. She was a member of the Southland Church of Christ and Center Stone Support Group.

Born on March 1, 1941, in Mattoon, Ill. He was the son of Paul and Gladys (Wellman) Lee.

He was retired from Indianapolis Power and Light.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Jim Lee.

Hazel Margaret (Williams) Moutardier, 81, of Bedford, died at 9:37 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born March 6, 1930, in Iberria, KY, she was the daughter of Jessie James and Rebecca Ann Logsdon Williams. She married Laymon O’Neal Moutardier on January 5, 1946. She was a homemaker and member of the Old Union Christian Church. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Survivors include one son, Rick and wife, Ellen Moutardier; six daughters, Patsy Craig and husband, Albert, Junitea (Judy) Cooper, Sherry Todd and husband, Larry, Darlene (Dolly) Blackburn and husband, Jeff, Nancy Meadows and husband, Tevin, Tammie Cook and husband, Craig; 18 grandchildren, Ryan and Marci Moutardier, Curtis and Trish Moutardier, Kent and Kara Moutardier, Valerie and Chad Umphress, Rhea and Mike Jackson, Katie and Daniel Bruhn, Darren Cooper, Lacie McFadden, Chris Todd, Jamie and Cristy Todd, Corey Blackburn, Emily and Steve Griffith, Jessica and Ben Johnson, Jaylyn and Jonathan Lee, Jesse and Pauline Cook, Taylor, Carey and Thomas Cook; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was married to Paul Jones and Dee Shearhart and both have preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and a cook at several local restaurants. She enjoyed country music, quilting, dolls and spending time with her family.

Charles B. Byers

Charles Bennie Byers, 79, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away on July 29, 2011, after a courageous battle against Lewy Body dementia.

He was born in Springville on June 1, 1932.

After graduating from high school, he honorably served our country in Korea, Germany and Vietnam with the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1973, when he retired as a First Sergeant.

He was a member of the Masons of Lawton, Okla.; a lifetime member of the VFW; and a member of the United First Methodist Church of Mesa.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Norda of Mesa; sons, Charles B. of Glendale, Ariz., Kenny of Lakeland, Fla., and Robert of Parker, Colo.; and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life was Aug. 4, in Mesa. A burial will be April 21, 2012, at the Byers Cemetery in Popcorn.

George Feltner Jr.

FEB. 7, 1921 — AUG. 22, 2011

George Emmet Feltner Jr., 90, died Aug. 22, after a brief illness.

He was born on Feb. 7, 1921, in southern Indiana, and grew up in Bedford.

After his family moved to Florida at the end of the Depression, he graduated from St. Petersburg Junior College. During World War II, he served in the Army and was stationed on Guam.

He made his career in municipal utilities and lived mostly in St. Petersburg, Fla., but later retired to Ocala, Fla.

Mr. Feltner enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and traveling well into his late 80s.

Mr. Feltner was preceded in death by his wife, Ilse Ursala John; his parents, George Emmett Feltner Sr. and Della Stapleton Feltner; and his brothers, James Benjamin Feltner and Richard Howard Feltner Sr.

He is survived by five nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., with Full Military Honors being performed by Angela Santos, VFW Post 4781 Honor Guard.

Lowell Helton, 64, of Owensburg, passed away at 12:36 p.m. on Wednesday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 24, 1947, in Alfordsville, he was the son of Oscar and Thelma (Botkin) Helton. He married Patricia Thompson on June 2, 1967.

Lowell founded the C & H Stone Co. where he continued to work until his death.

Of his many accomplishments, he was proudest of his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Owensburg; two sons, Brice Helton and wife Becky and their children, Heather, Brock, Bryant and Macy and Jeremy Helton and wife Erin and their children, Ethan, Drew and Brent; two sisters and three brothers. He leaves behind a large extended family that he loved greatly and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Thelma Helton; his second parents, Delmar and Betty Thompson; three sisters and one brother.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Owensburg Cemetery in Owensburg.

James W. Ingalls, 57, of Oolitic, died at 6:19 p.m. on Monday at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Feb. 13, 1954, in Bedford, the son of James and Shirley (Babb) Ingalls.

He was a radio personality.

He was a 1972 graduate of Bedford High School.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford, where he was chairperson of the elders and maintained the church’s website and sound system. He was a past member of the Bedford Noon Lions Club.

Survivors include one son, David Ingalls of Bedford; his parents, James and Shirley Ingalls of Bedford; one sister, Cynthia (Bill) Deckard of Indianapolis; one brother, Joe (Lita) Ingalls of Westfield; one niece, Jessica Ingalls; one nephew, Samuel Deckard; and his companion, Francena Beasley.

Barbara Jean (Dale) Towle, 78, of Bloomington, passed away Wednesday at her residence.

She was born on July 8, 1934, to James William and Martha (Leonard) Worley in Danville, Ill. Barbara was dedicated to her family and enjoyed going to antique auctions.

She was a kindergarten aide and Title I aide for the Bedford school systems, a volunteer at the Bedford Medical Center, a past member of the Presbyterian Church in Danville, Ill., and the First Baptist Church in Bedford.

Survivors include her mother, Martha (Leonard) Worley of Terre Haute; sons, Jerry Towle and wife Cathy of Bloomington and Jeff Towle and wife Robin of Florida; daughters, Susan Towle and Cheryl Towle, both of Bloomington. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Daneille, Stephen, Michael and Stephanie.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Towle; father, James Worley; and brother, James Worley.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old Ind. 37, Bloomington. Burial will take place at the Clear Creek Cemetery.

Born May 21, 1915, in Burnside, Ky., she was the daughter of Thomas Fount and Mary Emma (Hardwick) Strunk. She married Ora Roscoe Conner on Feb. 13, 1934, and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1985.

She was a member of the Springville Pentecostal Mission.
