Bell – John Ray Bell of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital from injuries suffered in an automobile accident Tuesday morning. Born on March 24, 1940, in Wayne County, KY, he was the son of Charley and Margery (Wesley) Bell.
Surviving are four sons: Linville, Charley and Dorben Bell, all of Springville, and Zendell Bell of Bedford; six brothers: Harold Preston, Roy E. and Larry Bell, all of Springville, Gary Bell of Ohio, David and Morris Bell, both of Somerset, KY; one sister, Darlene Hall of Somerset, KY; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charley and Darrell Bell.
He was a quarry worker for Reed Quarry in Bloomington and a member of the Springville Community Church and the International Brotherhood of Hod Carriers Union No. 741.

Mathieu – Needa M. Mathieu of Bedford, IN, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at her residence. Born on August 21, 1919, in Gallatin County, IL, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Hill) Holt. She married Everett Honeycutt and he died in 1961. She married Eddie Mathieu and he died in 1984.
Surviving are two sisters: Alma Ragsdale of Bedford and Cleo Underwood of Michigan; three grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Honeycutt; three sisters: Thelma Goens, Coleen Watson, and Marjorie Holt (in infancy) and a brother, Lloyd Holt.
She was a waitress and cook in Needmore and was of Baptist faith.

McFarland – Ronnie James McFarland of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on May 14, 1996, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Shawn and Valorie (Browning) McFarland.
Surviving are the parents; two brothers: Seth Allen McFarland of Bedford and Andrew Alex McFarland of Mitchell, IN; the maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Joyce and Robert Meredeth of Las Vegas, NV; the maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Nolan and Beverly Browning of Indianapolis; the paternal grandmother, Mae McFarland of Mitchell, and godparents, Tom and Donna Browning of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Samuel D. McFarland Sr.

McMinds – Peter J. McMinds, Jr. of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Littleton, CO, and Phoenix, AZ, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at his residence. Born on May 5, 1932, in Hammond, IN, he was the son of Peter J. and Josephine (Zygmunt) McMinds Sr. He married Virginia L. Dougherty on June 9, 1956, in Phoenix, AZ, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Peter, J. McMinds III of Mitchell; two daughters: Jennifer FL. Horton of Evanston, WY, and Patricia J. Stanley of Lakewood, CO; his mother, Josephine McMinds of Mitchell; two sisters: Patricia Boy of Phoenix, AZ, and Mary Anne Ahlborn of Highland, IN; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one granddaughter.
He attended Indiana University and graduated from Arizona State University. He retired from U.S. West, formerly Mountain Bell in 1986 after 28 years of service. He was an active member of Rotary Clubs in Mitchell, Littleton, CO, and Phoenix, AZ, serving as president of the Mitchell and Phoenix East clubs and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a leader and advisor of Boy Scouts of America and an Eagle Scout. He was a member of ASU's Center for Executive Development Advisory Board, and was president, treasurer, and board director of Arizona Telco Federal Credit Union. He was a member of Wayfarers Lodge No. 50, F&AM, Phoenix; B.P.W. Elks, USA, Littleton Lodge No. 1650; and Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250, Mitchell. He was a Korean War Navy veteran. He served in many capacities over 30 years as a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Phoenix and was an active member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church.
Services for Peter McMinds will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1st, at the Mitchell Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Guy Newland officiating. A fellowship luncheon will follow the service. Clifton – Lorene Estell Clifton of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on November 24, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of John W. and Catherine C. "Kitty" (Stipp) Hillenberg. She married Wesley R. Clifton on April 20, 1935, in Petersburg, IN, and he died February 14, 1989.
Surviving are one son, Robert H. Clifton; three daughters: Arlene Potts, Mary Lou Melton, and Karen Sue Phipps; one daughter-in-law, Vicky Clifton; two brothers: John O. Hillenberg and Franklin L. Hillenberg, all of the Bedford area; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, John R. Clifton on June 9, 1998; and one daughter, Judy Ann Clifton, in infancy.
She was a former primary and grade school teacher and retired from RCA. She was of Protestant faith and a 1932 graduate of Heltonville High School.

Figley – Norma J. Figley of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at her residence. Born on January 23, 1931, in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of Russell C. Doub and Laura L. Dobson.
Surviving are two daughters: Teresa Blackburn of Springville, IN, and Christina Crites of Bedford; one son, Jason Figley of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Sarah Kathryn Taylor of Bloomington, IN; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
She had worked at RCA in Bloomington and at Ford Electronics in Bedford. She was a member of Grace Full Gospel Church in Bedford.
Services for Norma Figley will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 29th, at Grace Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Brent O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in Cloverhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg. Hilderbrand – Hannah Gertrude Hilderbrand of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at her residence. Born on September 21, 1923, in Crossville, TN, she was the daughter of James Grant and Angie Lettie Grant Cummings.
Surviving are her companion, David Lane of Bedford; nine sons; four daughters; two sisters, Ruth Jones and Mable Deavers, both of Bedford; one brother, James Grant of Bedford; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Grant.
She was a homemaker and of Protestant faith.

Fines – Terrel "Terry" Fines of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on January 27, 1931, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Oliver and Emma Fines. He married Martha Cassida in 1950, and she died in 1989.
Surviving are one daughter, Sue O'Brian of Lynnville, TN; one brother, Bill Fines of Bedford, IN; two sisters: Laureen Guise of Wisconsin, and Imo Webber of California; one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gary and Richard Fines; three brothers, and three sisters.
He was a service technician for Triangle & Leahy.

Keller – Roy E. Keller of Mitchell, IN died Monday, June 22, 1998, at the Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on July 9, 1912, in Chandlerville, OH, he was the son of Harry A. and Julia (Reed) Keller.
Surviving are two daughters: Dee Haney of Mitchell, IN, and Pat Hobbs of Williamsburg, KY; one son, Keith E. Keller of Canton, OH; one brother, Alfie Keller of Dayton, OH; one sister, Violet Puente of Canton, OH; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister.
He had operated Keller's Bakery at Union City and was a member of Cornerstone Community Wesleyan Church. He was a World War II Army veteran.
There will be graveside services for Roy Keller at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 24th, at Mitchell Cemetery with the Rev. Don Haney officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, Mitchell.

McIver – Raymond McIver of Homestead, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died on Monday, June 22, 1998, in Homestead. He was born and raised near French Lick. He attended Indiana University and taught in the Lawrence County schools for 23 years. He retired in 1980 as area director for exceptional children.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen McIver and one son, Don McIver.

Dobson – Betty Dobson of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, June 21, 1998 at Mitchell Manor Living and Rahab Center. Born on July 29, 1928, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Elmer and Emma (Withers) Willis. She married William F. Dobson on September 28, 1986, and he died October 13, 1989.
Surviving are one son, Jory W. Earl of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Pamela J. Pridemore of Mitchell, IN; two stepsons: Earl Dobson of Tennessee and William R. Dobson of Ohio; one sister, Joan Burton of Mitchell; one brother, Walter "Chub" Willis of Florida; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters: Marie Faulkenhof and Mae Hancock; and one brother, Robert E. Willis.
She was a member of the Bride of Christ Fellowship.

Stevens – Dollis L. Stevens of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at her residence. Born on January 11, 1903, in Daviess County, IN, she was the daughter of David Bell and Elva Bridget Frances (Abbot) Watson. She married Samuel Raymond "Bus" Stevens on December 11, 1921, and he died February 18, 1973.
Surviving are three daughters: Martha Jane Robbins and Mary Ann Kern Culhan, both of Bedford, and Patsy Ruth Smith of Washington, IN; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Bell Watson.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary.

Henderson – Geneva Mae Henderson of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on September 4, 1931, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Earl and Louis (Kindred) Speer. She married Herman Henderson, and he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Bunting of Brandon, FL; one son, Larry Henderson of Valrico, FL; two sisters, Juanita Shepperd of Bedford, IN, and Gail Connerly of Mitchell, IN; four brothers: Delbert Speer of Fort Myers, FL, Roy Speer of Bloomington, IN, Edward "Bud" Speer of Bedford, IN, and Gerald Speer of Mitchell, IN; one stepbrothers, David Tidd; two stepsisters, Eva Gould of Bedford, IN, and Virginia Wallace of North Carolina; her stepmother, Mary Speer of Bedford; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Everett Speer, Wilburn Speer, Jasper Speer, and Edwin "Bill" Speer.
She worked at the A&P Grocery in Indianapolis, retiring after 25 years, and for H&R Block in Bedford. She was a member of the Apostolic Faith Assembly.

Johnson – Destinee Elaine Johnson, five-month-old daughter of Lewis and Connie (Felton) Johnson of Loogootee, IN, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at the Daviess County Hospital in Washington, IN. She was born on January 25, 1998, in Bedford, IN.
Surviving in addition to her parents are one sister, Latosha Johnson of Vincennes, IN; two brothers: Aaron and Dylan Johnson, both at home; maternal grandparents: Clyde and Phyllis Felon of Springville; paternal grandparents: Danny and Janet Bishop of Orleans, IN; maternal great-grandfather, Clyde Felton, Sr. of Salt Lake City, Utah; paternal great-grandparents: the Rev Chester and Berniece Taylor of Falkville, AL; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by one uncle, Jason Felton.

Mundy – Margaret Ellen Mundy of Huron, IN, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at her residence. Born on May 26, 1928, in Hendricks County, IN, she was the daughter of Pearl and Lola (White) Scott. She married Edmund Mundy on September 25, 1952, and he survives.
Also surviving are six sons: Troy, Randal and Donald Mundy, all of Huron, Timothy Mundy of Orleans, IN, Brian Mundy of Florida, and Shawn DeWayne Mundy of Mitchell, IN; two daughters: Penny Jones and Angie Triplett, both of Huron, IN; one sister, Kathryn Cox of Roachdale, IN; one brother, Kenneth Scott of Crawfordsville, IN; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of Tulip Street Christian Church.

Cahill – Lois Cahill of Jacksonville, NC, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at her residence. Born on September 3, 1937, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Howard E. and Ruth (Williams) Cahill.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathy Patrick of Jacksonville, NC; two brothers: Edwin D. Cahill of Mitchell, IN, and Wendell Cahill of Peyton, CO; one sister, Mary Catherine Henson of Bloomington, IN; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth Evelyn Baker.
She worked at General Electric in Bloomington for fourteen years and was an assistant head housekeeper at Quality and Holiday Inns in North Carolina. She was a member of the Bedford Baptist Temple.

Deane – Helen Deane of Bedford, IN,died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Hospitality House. Born on June 24, 1904, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Clifford and Maude (Teague) Bickenheuser.
Surviving are one son, David Deane of Mesa, AZ; one sister, Mary Utterback of Bedford; two grandsons, and two nieces. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Bickenheuser.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 129 in Bedford. She retired from George O. Mayer & Co, Indianapolis.
Services for Helen Deane will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 22nd, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens Chapel with the Rev. Steve Braden officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Miller – Anice C. Miller of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on July 1, 1905, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Osie and Dora (Chapman) Bex. She married Lloyd Miller, Sr. on May 31, 1923, and he died January 15, 1988.
Surviving are three daughters: Edna Merry, Mary Graves, and Sue Acton, all of Mitchell, IN; two sons: Lloyd Miller, Jr. and Philip Miller, both of Mitchell; one sister, Agnew Haley of Mitchell; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Martha Kendall, one brother, and four sisters.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Roberts – Gertie E. Roberts of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on May 25, 1908, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Ida (Parker) Hudson. She married Glenn D. Roberts on June 21, 1930, and he died February 8, 1984.
Surviving are one son, William D. Roberts of Indianapolis; two daughters: Betty Davis of Indianapolis and Mary DeVore of Bedford; three brothers: Harry Hudson of Bloomington, IN, Reuger and Theodore "Ted" Hudson, both of Bedford; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
She retired from M.Fine & Sons in 1971 and was a member of the Englewood Baptist church.

Winterrowd – Wilbur Winterrowd of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. He was born on January 30, 1916, in Peru, IN. He married Reva Grant, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife of Elwood, IN; two daughters: Janet Miller Beeson and Terri Strohl, both of Elwood; one son, Randy Paul Winterrowd of Fort Myers, FL; three sisters: Leota Winterrowd of Upland, IN, Helen Brown of Hartford City, IN, and Lola Banter of Marion, IN; one brother, Weldon Winterrowd of Sweetser, IN; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from Brunner Engineering in Bedford and was a former bank courier for Corporate Express in Fort Myers. He was a member of Harmony Christian Church in Leisure and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol.
Services for Wilbur Winterrowd will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home in Fairmount with Kent Clark officiating. Graveside military rites will be accorded by members of Grant County Military Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Elliott – Reba L. Elliott of Bedford, IN, died Monday, June 15, 1998, at her residence. Born on September 21, 1928, in Oolitic, IN, she was the daughter of John H. and Nannie B. (Tuttle) Perry.
Surviving are two daughters: Debby Coolidge of Friendswood, TX, and Karen Crulo of Bedford, IN; two sisters: Jane Roberts and Dorsie Spaulding, both of Bedford; one brother, Crit Perry of Bedford; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Howard Elliott, and one sister, Beatrice Perry.
She worked in retail sales.

Kirkman – Vernie Kirkman of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on August 4, 1911, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Henry and Mary (Allen) Kirkman. He married June D. Thompson on November 4, 1939, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Bonnie Mullinax of Bedford; four sons: James and Jon Kirkman, both of Bedford, Vern Kirkman of Orleans, IN, and Orvis Kirkman of Indianapolis, IN; fourteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Alma Ruth Kirkman; three brothers, Orville, Clarence, and Opal Kirkman; and two sisters, Iva Montgomery and Inez Kirkman.
He worked at General Motors Powertrain, retiring after twenty-six years. One of the founding pastors of Glad Tidings Christian Center, he also served on the pastoral staff of Restoration Christian Center in Bedford, where he was a member. He ministered at several area churches and area nursing home. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local No. 440.

Turner – Wendell L. Turner of Springville, IN, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Bedford Hospitality House. Born on August 31, 1926, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Arthur and Josephine (Massey) Turner. He married Marian Louise Patton on August 30, 1947, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Gregory S. Turner of Avoca, IN, and Jeff Turner of Bedford; one sister, Telene Huff of Bedford; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Merlene Turner; one brother, Lloyd Turner, and one grandchild.

Cobb – Henry Matt Cobb of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on March 22, 1924, in Knox County, KY, he was the son of Henry and Ollie (Childers) Cobb.
Surviving are two sisters: Marie Fields of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Maggie Jones of Bedford, IN; three brothers: Stanley and Leonard Cobb, both of Bedford, IN, and Claude Cobb of Mooresville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Arthur, Perry, and Edward Cobb.
He was a retired mechanic for Indiana Limestone Co., and a World War II Army veteran, cited by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was of Protestant faith.

Wilcoxen – Ervil "Junior" Wilcoxen of Mitchell, In, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on February 9, 1924, in Mitchell, he was the son of Ervil L. and Blanche (Chastain) Wilcoxen, R. He married Ethelene Lessig on October 10, 1966, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Paul Wilcoxen of Mitchell, IN; three daughters: Bethelene Wilcoxen, Donna Jackson, and Kathelene Blackwell, all of Mitchell; two sisters: Shirley Coomer of Tenino, WA, and Irene Wilcoxen of Mitchell; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers, and one sister.
He was a retired radio and television repairman.

Aynes – Evelyn Aynes of Indianapolis, IN, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at Manor Care Health Service in Indianapolis. Born on June 26, 1928, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Virgil and Ruth (Delaney) Aynes.
Surviving are two nephews: Brad T. Bailey of Greenwood and Brian D. Bailey of Indianapolis; and one niece, Beth A. Kelley of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marilyn Aynes Bailey.
She worked for Indiana Bell in Indianapolis for thirty-one years and previously worked for the State of Indiana Forestry Department and Central State Hospital.

Clifton – John R. Clifton of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at his residence. Born on September 24, 1943, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Wesley R. and Lorene (Hillenberg) Clifton. He married Vicky Faris on June 23, 1963, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Jonetta Orender of Bedford and Dr. Julie Clifton Laughner of Atlanta, GA; his mother, Lorene Clifton of Bedford; three sisters: Arlene Potts, Mary Lou Melton, and Karen Sue Phipps, all of Bedford; one brother, Robert H. Clifton of Bedford; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister in infancy, Judy Ann Clifton.
He was retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane, where he was a project manager in the research and development division for 34 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elks Lodge , and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Terrill – Edgar L. Terrill of Nashville, IN, died Monday, June 9, 1998, at his residence. Born on April 21, 1936 in Terrill Ridge (Brown County, IN) he was the son of Ford and Ruby (Mitchner) Terrill. He married Carol Ann Murphy of November 5, 1955, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Dennis Lee Terrill of Heltonville, IN; one daughter, Denise Ann Hunter of Bedford, IN; one sister, Donna Armstrong of Heltonville, IN; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Jerry and Ford Terrill, Jr.; and one sister, Wilma Jean Todd.
He was a retired school bus driver and a member of Green Valley Pentecostal Church in Nashville.

Anderson – Brooks Ralph Anderson of Bedford, IN, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on September 19, 1905, in Palestine, IL, he was the son of Bluford and Margaret (Finch) Anderson. He married Margaret Thuestad in 1947, and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons: B. Wade Anderson of Danbury, CT, and Jon Anderson of Cheyenne, WY; four daughters: Sarah Gilbert of Valparaiso, IN, Joan Horn of Hobart, IN, Elsie Anderson Mysliwiec of Bloomington, IN, and Nancy Iverson of Plum City, WI; and seventeen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers, Carl and Wade Anderson.
He was a retired barber in Lake County and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star Chapter 129, F&AM No. 716 (Roosevelt Lodge) in Gary, Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend, and York Rite, Crown Point. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
A memorial service for Brooks Anderson will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church under the direction of Ferguson Lee Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Palestine, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Root – Alice L. Root of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Oolitic, IN, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at her residence. Born on November 8, 1931 in East Oolitic, she was the daughter of Charles and Lillian (George) Henderson Browning. She married Russell Root and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons: Harold "Sonny" Root and George Root, both of Tucson, AZ; two daughters: Margo Schug and Joy Ann Gardner, both of Tucson, AZ; her mother, Lillain Browning of Bedford, IN; four brothers: Orville "Bud" Henderson and Bill Henderson, both of Bedford, Darrell Henderson and Doyle "Dick" Henderson, both of California; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Norma Miller.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mountain View Nazarene Church in Tuscon.

Chastain – Robert Sanford Chastain of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on September 1, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Sanford and Eva Mae (Guthrie) Chastain. He married Ruth Virginia Barnett on April 28, 1937, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Ronald Max Chastain of Kalamazoo, MI; two daughters: Rita Lea Clampitt of Mitchell, IN, and Rhea Dawn Hunt of Salem, IN; adopted daughter, Molly Sawyer of Robbinsonville, NC; one sister, Priscilla Keynon of Mitchell, IN; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Ann Kelley; two sisters, and one brother.
He was a retired house painter. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9170, Mitchell. He was a member of Mitchell Wesleyan Church.

Covington – Marie Covington of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Stamping Ground, KY, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on September 8, 1916, in Owen County, KY, she was the daughter of Jim and Ida (Tate) Sorell. She married Delbert Covington on December 22, 1933, and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Leola (Lee) Robinson of Mitchell, IN; one son, Jimmie Covington of Lexington, KY; one brother, Sherman Sorell of Owen County, KY; one sister, Texia Prather of Owenton, KY; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and one grandchild.
She was a homemaker and a member of Stamping Ground Baptist Church.

Grissom – Carol Grissom of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on February 6, 1937, in Ohio, she was the daughter of William and Elsie (Hennigar) Ludy. She married Leonard Grissom on August 2, 1965, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Jeffery and Billy Grissom, both of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Sharon Grissom of Seymour, IN; three sisters: Joanne Williams of Indianapolis, Jeannie Ludy of Florida, and Phyllis Piggs of San Francisco, CA; and three grandchildren.
She was a homemaker.

Lawyer – Mary E. Lawyer of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at the Bedford Hospitality House. Born on May 24, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Walter and Hallie (Leatherman) Payton. She married Arthur G. Lawyer in July, 1944, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, James Lawyer of Bedford; one daughter, Jean Vance of Bedford; three sisters: Betty Stockton of Bedford, Opal Baker and Patricia McGath, both of Indianapolis; one brother, Jack Payton of Bedford; five grandchildren, two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Leonard, Eugene, and Joe Payton; and three sisters: Dorothy Dixon, Helen Mathews, and Nola Padgett.
A 1942 graduate of Shawswick High School, she had been a beautician, a nurses aide, and had worked at Sarkes Tarzian. She was a former member of White River Baptist Church.

Henderson – Roy Eugene "Gene" Henderson of Roswell, GA, formerly of Bedford, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, in Roswell. Born on August 6, 1931, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Elmer and Goldie (Goodman) Henderson.
Surviving are his wife, Inge Henderson of Roswell, GA; two daughters: Sandra Kimbrel and Jennifer Adams; one son, Duane Henderson; two sisters: Janet Adams of Bedford and Myrtle "Net" Jacobs of Ellettsville, IN; three brothers: Elmer "Bus" Henderson of San Pablo, CA, and Edwin Henderson of Scottsdale, AZ; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joan Henderson and Aldena Koons.
Burial was in Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN.

Hunter – Ivan Hunter of Norman, IN, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born in Norman, IN, on January 12, 1930, he was the son of Doyle and Nellie (Henderson) Hunter. He married Barbara Bailey on April 5, 1952, at the Free Methodist Church in Bedford, IN, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Gary Hunter of Ocala, FL, and Doyle Hunter of Indianapolis; three daughters: Sharon Baldwin and Carol Hunter, both of Norman, IN, and JoAnne Godsey of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren, and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Carl Hunter; and one brother, Garis Hunter.
He was pastor of visitation for four years at Bedford Free Methodist Church and Pastor of Lyons Free Methodist Church for ten years.
Services for Ivan Hunter will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6th, at the Free Methodist Church in Bedford. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery at Heltonville, IN. Fields – William F. Fields of Bedford, IN, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at his residence. Born on December 14, 1923, in Bruceville, IN, he was the son of William and Lois (Price) Fields. He married Mildred Ruth Root on February 13, 1944, and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons: Michael, W. David, Phillip, and Timothy Fields, all of Bedford; two daughters: Susan Oliver and Brenda Beyers, both of Bedford; two brothers; Robert Fields of Bradenton, FL, and Donald Fields of Compton, CA; two sisters: Maryann Hall of Bloomington, IN, and Catherine McClain of Huntsville, AL; twenty grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother in infancy.
He was a self-employed plumber and had worked at Triangle Leahy in Bloomington. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ, Plumbers and Steamfitters Union and American Association of Retired Persons.

Graves – Barnett W. "Barney" Graves of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Orange County Hospital in Paoli. Born on May 15, 1921, in Taney County, MO, he was the son of Dennis and Lydia Myrtle (Webb) Graves.
He is survived by companion, Wanda Stevens of Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Phyllis, Robert, William, and Thomas Graves; and one sister, Marie Houdeshell.
He had been employed seventeen years as manager at Jack's Lounge in Mitchell and was an avid auto racing fan.

Gyger – Leita P. Gyger of Bloomington, IN, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Hospitality House Nursing Home in Bloomington. Born on August 29, 1901, in Fayetteville, IN, she was the daughter of Alva H. and Stella (Quackenbush) Pitman. She married Cyrus H. Gyger and he died in 1977.
Surviving are one daughter, Judy Marty of Bloomington; one granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Lois Holmes; and three brothers: Luther, Walter R. "Squire", and Roger Pitman.
She was a 60-year member of McDoel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was a member of Gideons International and a past president of Gideons International Auxiliary. She was retired from Gyger's Garage where she was office manager. She had also worked at the Showers factory and as a seamstress.

Short – Beulah H. Short of Bedford, IN, formerly of Williams, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on November 11, 1915, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Claude and Arless (Fisher) Hall. She married Richard B. Short on March 9, 1936, and he died June 10, 1993.
Surviving are one daughter, Suzanne Hardwick of Bedford; one son, Jack Short of Bedford; one sister, Catherine Russell of Terre Haute, IN; two brothers: Leonard and Glen Hall, both of Bedford; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Gladieth Short, and one great-grandchild.
She was a homemaker and a member of Williams Church of Christ.
