Carol J. York, 66, of 201 East Mulberry, Westport, died at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Hospice In-Patient Center in Columbus.

Born Dec. 11, 1945, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Charles Roy and Norma Jean (Brock) Webb. She married John W. York on Aug. 1, 1964, and he preceded her in death on July 21, 2005.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Ronnie York of Orleans, Billy York and wife Tammy of Bedford and Jeff York of Westport; seven grandchildren, Jordan (Chelsea) Beyers, Angela Beyers, Waylon Hedge, Daniel York, Jimmy York, Jeremy York and Chlois York; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Rigby and Donna Colson, both of Greensburg, Anna Jo Peters of Westport; and one brother, Jay Webb of Greensburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Billy and Le Roy Webb; two sisters, Linda Webb and Brenda York; and one granddaughter, Heather Rose York.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Ada Lorene ‘Jackie’ Griffin

Ada Lorene (Jackie) Griffin, 93, of Bedford, died Saturday at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born May 29, 1918, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Clarence Jackson and Bessie King Covington. She married George Griffin and he preceded her in death.

She was a beautician and a member of the Faith Mission Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two brothers, Charles Jackson of Flora, Tenn., and Kenneth Jackson and wife, Peggy, of Leighton, Ala.; two sisters, Dorval Tincher and Viola Medlock and husband John, all of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the mortuary.

Milburn Wever

Milburn Wever, 99, of Springville, passed away Thursday at Garden Villa in Bloomington.

Born Jan. 4, 1913, in Lawrence County, the son of Andrew Thorton and Helen (McMillan) Wever.

Milburn was a self employed farmer and drove a school bus for the Monroe County Schools. He was a 73-year member of the Bloomfield Odd Fellows Lodge, a member of the Kirksville Lion’s club and a member of the Popcorn Christian Church.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 78 years, Anna Lois Wever of Springville; his eight children, Robert David (Joyce) Wever of Oottewah, TENN., Roland Lee (Carolyn) Wever of Springville, Ruby May Hubbard of Bloomington, Ruth Ann (Jerry) Bailey of Bloomington, Roy Milburn (Connie) Wever of Ellettsville, Rita Kay (Bob) Hash of Ellettsville, Roger Wayne Wever of Springville and Rena Joy (Terry) Ogle of Springville; 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren; and 18 eighteen great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law and one great grandson.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and 10 a.m.. until the service on Tuesday, all at the Popcorn Christian Church.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Popcorn Christian Church with the Rev. Lloyd Swango and the Rev. Jerry Wisely officiating. Burial will follow at Lowder Cemetery in Lawrence County.

Phillip D. Meadows, 51, of Bedford, died at 4:21 p.m. on Monday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Feb. 14, 1961, in Bedford, he was the son of Lester and Lucille (Bartlett) Meadows. He married Tina (Tincher) Meadows on Oct. 2, 1987; she passed away on Oct. 18, 2005.

He retired from Kmart.

He was a BNL graduate with the Class of 1978. He attended the Apostolic Faith Assembly and the First Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are his three sons, Derek (Heather) Meadows, Nick Meadows, and Joseph (Brittni) Meadows, all of Bedford; three grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jayden and Ryley; and one brother, Larry Joe Meadows of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Pastor Kenneth Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Bartlettsville Methodist Cemetery.

Bonnie L. McCracken, 72, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

She was born April 26, 1940, the daughter of the late Denzil T. and Helen (Magill) Mattox. She married Cecil M. McCracken on Dec. 20, 1958, and he survives.

She was a homemaker and a teacher’s assistant for several years.

She was a member of the Livonia Presbyterian Church and was also a member of the Salem Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 286.

Surviving with her husband are twins, son, Jon (Rebecca) McCracken of Mitchell, and daughter, Cindy (Andrew) Rutherford of Livonia; one sister, Martha Crane of Orleans; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Livonia Presbyterian Church with Dr. Donald T. Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Hardinsburg Cemetery.

Mary Margaret Overton Harrison, 84, Mitchell, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at 5:15 p.m. Monday at her residence.

Born Oct. 10, 1927, in Evansville, she was the daughter of Everett and Nora (Caudell) Overton. She married William H. Harrison May 29, 1945.

She was a homemaker, a 1945 graduate of Mitchell High School, and a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority. Mary was a member of Jacob Finger United Methodist Church and the original cradle roll.

Survivors include her husband, Willliam H. Harrison of Mitchell; children, Candace Catherine Isom and husband Stephen E. II of Mitchell, Drucinda Lynn Burton and husband Chris of Mitchell and William Henry Harrison III and wife Bonnie of Mertztown, Pa.; grandchildren, Stephen E. Isom III, John-Paul H. Isom and wife, Julie, Lauren Elizabeth Burton, Kathryn Candace Burton, William Henry Harrison IV, Nora Mae Harrison and John Thomas Harrison; great-granddaughters, Rieken Elizabeth Isom and Julia Marie Isom; sister-in-law, Betty H. Fields of Orleans; several nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Kris Grissom.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Virginia May Robinson, 94, of Bedford died at 1:36 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Sept. 29, 1917, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Ernest and Roxie May (Miller) Robinson.

She retired from the Indiana University School of Business on Feb. 1, 1984.

She is survived by cousins, Teri Stevens and husband Kenneth of Bedford, and Cheryl Rusk and husband Jerry of Jeffersonville; her caregiver and friend, Barbara Tackett of Bedford; one sister in law, Dorothy Robinson of Greenwood; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother Richard L. Robinson.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Green Hill Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Services are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Ronald C. Harrison Sr., age 64, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday at his residence.

Ronald was born July 28, 1947, in Bedford, to Robert and Margaret (McAfee) Harrison, He married Connie Summers on Feb. 19, 1966, in Bedford, and she survives.

Ronald retired from RCA/Thomson Consumer Electronics in 2000 after 35 years of service.

Ronald was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his loving wife, Connie Harrison of Bedford; one son, Ron Harrison Jr. of Bedford; one daughter, Stacey Harrison King of Bedford; one adopted daughter, Betty Ann Grider of Ellettsville; six grandchildren, Mariah Bishop (Ryan), McKenzie and Morgan Harrison, Elizabeth Wehr, Eden Wehr, and Emily King; two great-grandchildren, Jude William Bishop and Sophia Marie Harrison; his father, Robert Harrison of Loogootee; and one sister, Linda Winegar of Loogootee.

Ronald was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Harrison.

Wilford E. ‘Bill’ Brown

Wilford E. “Bill” Brown, 98, of Bedford, formerly of Leesville, died at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at Garden Villa Health in Bedford.

He was born April 23, 1914, in Lawrence County, to the late Oscar Albert and Matilda (McClintock) Brown. On June 10, 1997, in Campbellsburg, he married the former Emma Condra, and she survives in Bedford.

Mr. Brown attended Leesville United Methodist Church.

He was a steel construction worker with the International Hod Carriers Union, a farmer, and timberer. He loved horses, mules, covered wagons, and to go camping.

Survivors include a stepson, Tom Childers of Campbellsburg; two stepchildren, Ronnie and Sue Ann; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Fred “Jum” Brown, Harley Brown, Arley Brown, and Frank Brown; and three sisters, Edna Hanners, Pearl Stancombe, and Vena Bridwell.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Leesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Rob Kirts officiating. Burial will follow in Leesville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service at the church.

Nellie E. Banks, 94, of Bloomington, passed from this life to be with her Lord at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday at the home of her daughter in Bloomington.

She was born in McMinn County, Tenn. on March 4, 1918, to the late Floyd and Lily May (Jones) Anderson.

She was a dedicated homemaker most of her life and a member of the New Life Trinity Holiness Tabernacle in Bedford.

She enjoyed attending church, cooking, sewing and gardening.

She married Maynard Banks on Aug. 29, 1937; he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1982.

She is survived by a host of loving family, including, her oldest son, Bobby Gene Banks (wife, Sue), Hayden, Idaho, daughter, Eileen Banks, Bloomington, son, Ronald Lee Banks (wife, Connie), Indianapolis and daughters, Linda Morgan (husband, Thadeus), Betty Parsons (husband, Jack) and Kathleen Axsom (husband, Bill) all of Bloomington; three brothers, Clyde Anderson, Corbin, Ky., Larry Anderson (wife, Mabel), Burlington, Ky. and Doug Anderson (wife, Aileen), Stockbridge, Ga.; three sisters, Betty Sue Anderson (husband, Ernest), Whitesburg, Ky., Larue Wright (husband, Rollie), Jenkins, Ky. and Faith Ratliff, Bloomfield; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Bobby Earl and Lloyd Anderson; and two sisters, Florence Kinser and Connie Janice Anderson.

Born Oct. 31, 1935, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Elmer and Effie (Knuckles) McKinney. She married Richard Whitted on Dec. 24, 1960, and he died May 9, 2001.

She had worked at Trav-Ler, Orleans, Sarkes-Tarzian, Bloomington, and Wamp’s Restaurant, Bedford.

She attended 39th Street Christian Church, Bedford.

Surviving are one sister, Wilma McPike of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews, including David Luttrell (Michelle), Bedford, who was raised in her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; seven sisters, Marie York, Marjorie Patton, Irene Fuller, Violet Skeen, Faye Hicks, Stella Chastain and Linda McKinney (at birth); and five brothers, George, Albert, Roger and Robert McKinney and Glen Chastain.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Brother Mike Holsapple officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens, Bedford.

Diana Kay Cain, age 63, of Bedford, passed away at 1 a.m. on Saturday at the Indiana University Bloomington Hospital Hospice House.

Diana was born on May 23, 1948, in Huron, to Archie Cooper and Bonnie (Hall) Cooper. She married Michael B. Cain on June 11, 1988, and he survives.

Diana retired from the Dollar General Store in Bedford, she was a Mitchell High School graduate, and she enjoyed gardening & reading

Survivors include her husband, Michael B. Cain of Bedford; one daughter, Julie Moreland and husband Ken of Bloomington; one son, Ricky S. Smith of Bedford; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Diana was preceded in death by her father, Archie Cooper; her mother, Bonnie Pridemore; and one brother, Stephen Lee Cooper.

Cremation with no services was chosen.

Wilma Y. Hillenburg

Wilma Y. Hillenburg, 79, of 6019 State Road 58 East, Heltonville, died at 11:45 p.m. on Sunday at the White River Lodge.

Born Aug. 25, 1933 in Jackson County, she was the daughter of James and Thelma (Adams) Bailey. She married Claude Hillenburg on Jan. 27, 1951, and he survives.

She was an assembly worker at RCA/Thomson in Bloomington, retiring in 1992.

She was a graduate of Heltonville High School and was a member of Fairview Community Church.

Survivors include her husband, Claude, of Heltonville; one son, Randy J. Hillenburg and wife Debra of Indianapolis; one grandson, Nathaniel Alexander Hillenburg of Indianapolis; two sisters, Betty Jo Todd of Bedford and Linda Baker of Arizona; one brother, James Bailey and wife Gladys of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Toby Lee Hillenburg.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Lindy Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mundell Christian Church Cemetery.

E. Marie Sanders, 92, formerly of Bedford, died at 12:50 a.m. on Saturday at the Seymour Crossing in Seymour.

Born Jan. 28, 1920, in Oolitic, she was the daughter of Jess and Mollie (Hubbard) Lavender. She married Harold J. Sanders Feb. 25, 1937; and he died on Aug. 19, 1985.

She had worked at S.S Kresge and Company in Bedford and worked in the cafeteria at Oolitic High School. She was a former Republican Precinct Vice Committee Women.

She was of Christian faith.

Surviving are her two sons, Jack (Carolyn) Sanders of Indianapolis and Lloyd (Ruthie) Sanders of Seymour; eight grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Danny Sanders; a daughter, Cynthia Kay Owen; four sisters, Margaret Christenberry, Flossie Lavender, Ruby Baker and Lorene Hall; and three brothers, Claude Henry Lavender, Clovus “Buck” Lavender and Harry Lavender.

Merle L. Sipes, 73, Cale, passed away at 4:07 p.m. on Friday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

He was born April 2, 1939, in Trinity Springs, the son of Edgar T. and Zeta (Stroud) Sipes.

He was formerly employed at Loogootee Clay Products and the Todd Lumber Company in Bedford.

He will be greatly missed by his family including: sisters, Roma Bateman of Cale, Mary Hungate of Williams, and Frances Nolting of Jefferson City, Mo.; five brothers, George, Joseph and Elton Sipes, all of Cale, Ricky Sipes of Sommerville, Tenn., and Dennis Sipes of Caruthersville, Mo.; eight nices; and six nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Jerry and James Sipes; and one nephew.

Margaret Ellen Wadsworth, 76, of Hudson, N.Y., died at 2:40 p.m. on Thursday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born July 17, 1935, in Philmont, N.Y., she was the daughter of John Edgar and Alberta (Shutts) Bogardus. She married Gordon Wadsworth on Dec. 12, 1953.

She had worked as a bank teller and food service worker at Hudson High School. She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother.

She maintained close relationships with her co-workers and school classmates with lunch and bunko dates. Margaret was a wonderful cook, loved to read and work on crossword puzzles.

Survivors include a son, Keith Wadsworth and wife Jennifer of Bedford; a daughter, Karen Schlenker of Islip, NY; grandchildren, Brenton Wadsworth and wife, Jodie of Forsyth, Ill., Amy Nikirk and husband Nathan of Bedford, Erik Schlenker and wife Noelle of Walnut Creek, Calif. and Scott Schlenker of Islip, N.Y.; a great-grandson, Reid Nikirk.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, John Edgar Bogardus.

Arie A. Brewington, 99, of Bedford, died at 12:06 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Johnson’s Christian Village in Bedford.

Born January 21, 1913, in Eureka, she was the daughter of Nellie Frances (Sears) and James Franklin Skeen. She married Bertie M. Myers on March 26, 1933, and then Cloyce Brewington on August 5, 1981. They both preceded her in death. Arie was a bookkeeper for the Bedford Federal Savings Bank for 23 years. She was a member of the Englewood Baptist church and volunteered more than 10,000 hours for Dunn Memorial Hospital and various other Bedford nursing homes. Arie graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1932 and Bedford Business College in 1933.

Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Marie Roberts of California; two step-daughters, Donna Hammond and Mary Helen Granda, both of Indiana; four grandchildren, Julie A. McGinness, Jon D. Roberts, Lora Lanz and Jay C. Roberts, all of California; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and four brothers, James Harold, Roy R., William Dale and Harry W. Skeen; and one sister, Edith Marie Skeen.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at the Englewood Baptist Church with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery. Gladys M. Brooking, 73, of Mitchell, died at 6:31 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012, at IU Health in Bedford.

Born September 30, 1938, in Clear Springs, Jackson Co., IN, she was the daughter of Paul W. and Clara M. (Burford) Brooking.

She worked many years at Westinghouse, Bloomington, retiring in 1990. She later worked at White River Lodge in Bedford.

She was a member of the Baptist Faith and had attended New Hope Community Church; she was a volunteer with the Pink Ladies at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford; attended the Senior Citizens’ Club in Bedford, and enjoyed traveling with Happy Travelers in Bedford.

Surviving are five brothers, Carl W. (Phyllis) Brooking, of Tunnelton, IN; Robert (Janet) Brooking, of Leesville, IN; Kenneth E. Brooking, of Bedford IN; Gary (Sue) Brooking, of Bedford, IN, and Louis (Paula) Brooking, of Norman (Zelma), IN; one sister-in-law, Mary Jo Brooking, Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Paul R. Brooking; and one sister, Mary Lou Brazzell-Blondin.

Funeral service will be on Monday, May 7, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Pastor Lewis Williams officiating. Burial will be in Bryantsville Cemetery.

Amanda Faye-Ann Wolber, 20, of 580 Leatherwood Road, Bedford, died at 1:52 p.m. on Wednesday from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Born August 23, 1991, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Andrew and Tonia (Orberson) Wolber. She was engaged to Levi Wright and was soon to be Amanda Wright on June 23, 2012.

She was employed at the Guide Pointe Church where she was a member and involved with Hands of Praise. She was an alumnus of J.C.’s Christian Academy and currently a student at Ivy Tech pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts.

Amanda was an artist, singer and avid reader. She loved God, her family and cooking.

Survivors include her parents of Bedford; her husband-to-be, Levi Wright of Bedford; two sisters, Whitney R. Hartwell and husband Curtis of Columbus and Elizabeth G. Pace of Bedford; a brother, Matthew R. Wolber of Bedford; nephews, Colton Taylor and Sebastian Hartwell; a niece, Chloe Taylor; her maternal grandmother, Beverly Orberson Calhoun of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, William G. and Velma F. Wolber; abd her maternal grandfather, Marion Orberson.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Guide Pointe Church, 527 E. 15th St., with Pastors Chris Perry and Kenneth Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Gordon Webb, 90, of Bedford, died at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born March 31, 1922, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Hobert and Pearl (Baker) Webb. He married Yvonne Hamman on March 3, 1945, in Cardiff, South Wales, Great Britain, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 2006.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.

He was employed as a service manager at Chase Chevrolet for several years and was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Emery Wayne Hancock, 83, of Bedford, died at 6:22 a.m. on Tuesday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born June 9, 1928, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Emery T. and Minnie M. (Galimore) Hancock. He married Nancy Harrison in 1950, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Bedford High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.

He was the owner of Bedford Pawn and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed bowling and carpenter work.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Bedford; one daughter, Anita Neeley and husband Mike of Bloomington; two sons, Joseph Hancock of Indianapolis and Butch Hancock and wife Janis of Ninevah; eight grandchildren, Jeremiah Hancock, Jeff Hancock and wife Jamie of Mitchell, Branan Neeley and wife Michelle, Eric, Samantha and Matthew Neeley, all of Bloomington, and Cory and Ben Hancock of Ninevah; five great-grandchildren, Lynndsey Hancock, and Addie, Kenzie, Blake and Zee Neeley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Danny Hancock; and three brothers, Stanley M. and Loren Hancock and Ernie Mitchell.

Graveside service will be at 3:15 p.m. on Friday in the Beech Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.

Vertis Donald Hall, 87, Mitchell, passed away at 5:34 p.m. Tuesday at his residence.

Born May 24, 1924, in Mitchell, he was the son of John and Blanche (Enochs) Hall. He married Viola June Blackerby Oct. 19, 1946.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the 12th Amphibious Landing Craft Division, which was in charge of landing tanks on Omaha Beach on D-Day.

Vertis was a member of American Legion Post No. 250. He was a founder and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, and was instrumental in the construction of the building.

He retired from GM Powertrain and was a member of UAW Local 440.

Vertis was a former deacon and member of Gibsonton Baptist Church in Gibsonton, Fla.

Surviving are wife, June Hall of Mitchell; children, Judy Lynn (Mark) Hitchcock of Mitchell, Donald (Barbara) Hall of Mitchell, Myra Cagle of Bedford, Tess (Dan LaLoggia) Hall of Louisville, Ky., and Scott Hall of Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Delmont Hall of Bradenton, Fla.

His parents; son, Morris Lee Hall; brothers, Robert Hall and Lloyd Hall; and sister, Loretta Arnold, preceded him in death.

Sheila was a homemaker, and past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star in Richmond.

He was born Dec. 2, 1949, in Gary, the son of Chester N. and Bonnie R. (Page) Brown.

He was a draftsman at NSWC Crane. He was an Army and an Air Force veteran, enjoyed playing the guitar and pool, and listening to blues music.

Mary Ferne Neeson

Mary Ferne Neeson, 85, 728 Glen Meadows Parkway, Bedford, passed away peacefully at 10:55 a.m. on Friday, April 27, at the home she shared with her daughter.

Born in Greene County on Jan. 24, 1927, she was the daughter of Thomas Jackson and Opal Fern (Deckard) Elkins. She married Robert Neeson on March 20, 1971, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1998.

She graduated from Clearspring High School in 1945.

After retiring from General Motors in 1971, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Bedford, the Ladies of the Round Table, former president of Otis Park Ladies Club and former president of South Central Ladies Golf Association.

She was well known in the community as an avid golfer. She was instrumental in organizing and supporting the Junior Girls Golf Program at Otis Park. She was a champion golfer winning the Bedford Ladies City tournament seven times form 1966 to 1976 and a state champion of the Indiana Senior Women’s Golf Association.

Surviving are two daughters, Marsha Mathews (Charlie Elkins) and Lynn Hane (Mike) of Bedford; stepson, Rod Neeson (Connie) of West Terre Haute; and daughter-in-law, Angie Fisher of Bedford. She also has seven grandchildren, Melissa Alvey (Curt), Kye Louden (Sandra), Carmen Fisher, David Fisher (Kristy), Joseph Neeson (Ashley), Christopher Neeson (Heather), and David Neeson (Crista). She had 17 great-grandchildren, Jake, Maitlyn, Gracyn, Carsyn, Kendlyn, Suttyn, and Jett Alvey, Jenna and Memphis Louden, McKinley and Keegan Fisher, Lilly, Sarah, Evan, Liam, Kyle and Ryland Neeson. Also surviving are one brother, Thomas Edward Elkins (Lorine); two sisters, Carolyn L. Greathouse and Geneva M. Wilmoth (Don); and sisters-in-law, Pamela Critchlow and Rowena Tripp (Gary); several nieces and nephews; and loving friend and caregiver, Betty Lou Hale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; son, Butch Fisher; sister, Kathleen Cowles; and beloved aunt Altha B. Sutton.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Otis Park. The service will begin with the dedication of her memorial limestone bench at hole number 14 at the top of the hill.

Family and friends are welcome to share in this special celebration of her life.

Shirley A. Radcliff, 75, Mitchell, passed away at 9:18 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Aug. 21, 1936, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Edward C. and Edith H. (Painter) White. She married Bennie Radcliff in 1956 and he preceded her in death in July 1993.

Shirley was a homemaker and a believer in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. She was a blessing to her family and to the ones that knew her and will be sadly missed. Shirley was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Surviving are a son, Jeffrey E. (Cindy) Radcliff of Mount Pleasant, Texas; granddaughter, Christina Myers of New Jersey; grandson, Brett Michael Radcliff of Texas; sisters, Sandra (Randy) Coble, Betty Kelley and Mary Jane Caraway, all of Mitchell and Brenda (Frank) Chapman of Las Vegas, Nev.

Her parents; husband; and sister, Virginia White, preceded her in death.

Helen G. Tirey

Aug. 28, 1931 — April 28, 2012

Helen Greene Tirey, 80, of DeSoto, died peacefully on Saturday after an extended illness.

She was born in Butler County, Ky., on Aug. 28, 1931, to William Cleburn and Dorothy (Penner) Greene. She graduated from high school in Morgantown, Ky., and attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College.

She started her career teaching in one-room schools in Butler County where she taught grades 1-8. She met the love of her life, Norman Lee Tirey at a revival meeting in the fall of 1951 and they married on Oct. 17, 1952. After a brief stint as a military couple in Louisiana, the Tireys relocated to Muncie. Norman and Helen lived on Abbott Street in Muncie from 1954-1961 where they started their family while she continued teaching in the Daleville Schools. The family moved to Brook Farm in DeSoto, in 1961 where they have remained to this day.

Mrs. Tirey operated Brook Farm Kindergarten in their DeSoto home in the 1960s filling a community need prior to the inclusion of kindergarten in the public schools. In the 1970s, she continued her career in literacy in a number of creative ways. She was a founding board member of the Midwest Writer’s Workshop and served that organization in various capacities from 1974-2008. The family opened The Book End on Walnut Plaza in 1975 which Helen operated until 1993. She frequently appeared as a book reviewer on WIPB with Al Rent and always prided herself in her ability to match her many friends and acquaintances with books suited to their tastes.

She was a champion of local authors and hosted many successful autograph parties in her bookstore throughout its 171⁄2 year run.

After selling the business, Helen had a brief rest before resuming her busy life as caregiver to her mother-in-law Edith. After Edith’s death, she enjoyed the remaining years of her life reading, cooking, traveling to visit family members and friends, attending church and functions at DeSoto United Methodist Church, and wintering in Fort Lauderdale.

She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by her husband Norman; three children, Stephen (Carol Jean), Phillip, and Cynthia (Ken) Smith; her brother Jim; three grandchildren, Kurt, Shannon and Ken Junior; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at DeSoto United Methodist Church with Pastor Frank Oakman officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. on Friday in Spice Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Mitchell.

Ronnie Lee Fleetwood, 59, of Indianapolis, formerly of Heltonville, died at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Aug. 4, 1952, in Heltonville, he was the son of Lessly and Helen (Sturrock) Fleetwood. He graduated from Heltonville High School with the class of 1971. He graduated from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, in 1990 with a BA in Financial Analysis.

He owned and operated Fleetwood Sawmill from 1976 to 1979. He was an avid woodworker. He was also employed as an accountant.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Brower and husband Toby of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Madeline Eve, Katherine Elise and Lauren Elizabeth; four sisters, Martha Davis of Bedford, Louise Meadows of Heltonville, Tammy Reuter of Bedford and Rickie Anderson of Williams; and five brothers, Everett Dean Fleetwood of Heltonville, Rex Fleetwood of Bedford, Bob Fleetwood of Bedford, Ray Fleetwood of Heltonville and Kevin Fleetwood of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Jean Fleetwood; and three brothers, Charles Edwin, Edward Dale and Raymond Willard Fleetwood.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Randy Corbin and the Rev. Jim Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Bartlettsville Christian Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the mortuary.

The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

Becky Marie Sparks, 63, Bedford, died at 2:55 p.m. on Saturday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital. No service or visitation is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Day & Carter Mortuary.

Shelia R. Johnson

Shelia Rae (Decker) Johnson, 80, Orleans, died Monday evening at her residence. Funeral arrangements are pending at Chastain Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
